What an artist needs the most is discipline.
Gopled persistence is a close second to discipline
what everyone needs is discipline
That's inspiring
Marshall should write a book about being an artist.
And record an audiobook for it.
He himself is a book, read him through his videos and podcasts :'3

No! I want more!
@@Ricardo_io I want more too you know, that's why I keep coming back to Draftsmen!
this is like the therapy we needed, thanks marshall and proko for doing this podcast
The guy in this video is definitely me. I should start by putting an hour in. Same for guitar though, and uni work. Hahaha. I should join a band...
You should try the Japanese method called Kaizen. It combats laziness. The goal is to do your desired task for at least 1 minute. Chances are you are going to keep going. My art has improved dramatically using this method. Very effective.
So what happens when you find too much inspiration, in the sense that
you find too many things? Like, you find 7 different artists that you
want to emulate and take from, but you find yourself overwhelmed because you don't know which way to go?
Or is that a different thing altogether?
start making a list, so u can do one of them at a time c: thats what i do atleast
@@ninjawarrior4217 Thanks, man
Kouhai Terd that makes sense imma try that thanks👊🏼👊🏼
Try to narrow down what elements of their work that you like most
Grieverjoe focus. Do one thing, practice until you do it very well, then move onto the next challenge
the hardest thing is sitting your ass down and starting to work, and that involves study. natural art can come from within, sure, but isn{t it amzing when you build on practical knowledge AND let that creativity come through?
I needed this today , not only for myslef but to help my kids. thank you
Aw man, I remember this episode!
This one really impacted the way I approach how I do life.
that is one of the most important videos i found on youtube so far
I haven't watched American television for 15 years. No regrets. I embody that Nicolas quote, but little by little try to overcome it. And to answer Stan's question it's not about not using the knowledge, it's about trying to find the right process of learning, that in trying to find the right one, you wind up having pieces of them all that your knowledge becomes very deep.
I work full-time I devote 4 hours a night to painting I was doing upwards to 6 hours when I got home but people burn out is a real thing. That's why I had to cut down 2 hours.
Do you still paint 4 hrs a night ?! That is still a lot ! Impressive !
@@Ty-1452 you know, I’m not gonna lie I took it a break to figure out what I wanted to do because I put too much pressure on myself and forgot the reason I painted. now I’m a full-time college student studying electrical engineering Dad and and I work full-time on top of still doing art my life is wonderful.
Thank you for asking
I'm happy that I found this channel. You guys makes me want to watch more of you. I feel inspired. 😁
I needed to hear this!😄
Probably the Biggest struggle I have! I’m very easily distracted and can be very lazy. But I also think I may be fearful of success overload and possible failure.
Speaking of distraction, I have the same set of Home Depot chairs. Lol
i believe that a good artist is not the one that produces good pictures but the one who sits down and draws even if it feels like shit
It seems to me more important to be good technically than to be in touch with culturue. E.g. first develop skills, then take in more culture.
Great video and very relevant, we live in such a distracted society today.
Inspiring!!... time to breath it out!
i dont know why but every time i put the headphones on, even in complete silence, im focused. so theres a tip.
I think the reverse applies to me. Trying to come up with what I want to draw and committing to an idea takes about as much time as the actual drawing process.
ElementStar try doing master studies of outstanding works. You learn a lot from them and the finished product is easy to review because you have the standard to compare to
The funny thing is a lot of people DO suck at watching TV! Within 30 seconds of watching a show they’ve already got distracted by something else on their phone 😂
You know i some times just whant to watch a movie or tv show or even play a video game just for the fun of it
Marshall should read Grit by Angela Duckworth.
"... unless you suck at watching TV..." :D :D :D
Yeah, I dont watch complete movies bc I always end up getting up to go about an idea I got off it.
well that ended up abruptly lol
This made me perspire 😂
All the mainstream is concerned about is you consuming what they have already normalized.
I suck at watching TV, I always fall asleep.
Same
Can't spend the weekends on pop culture when my job isn't yet drawing or art.
Do u guys sell those Proko shirts?
yeah, Stan sells them on his main youtube channel ua-cam.com/users/ProkoTVstore
JohnB thank u!
It's like this video was made for me
Dose anyone know Witch episode is this ?
just realized this video supports 4k.
...why?
Probably because that's the highest resolution they filmed it in
When I freelanced, I worked every day. But I worked 6 hours a day. That is what worked for me.
@proko
Question for you, I can draw models and whatnot in 3d or at least be able visualise my lines as 3d, but it's kinda heard to gesture sketch in 3d, it usually looks like flat, 2d squiggles
pataponnabil since gesture is mostly line, try varying the weight of your line to imply orientation and direction
he kinda looks like Benedict Cumberbatch
Yeah, a 'lil bit
tfw the intro still looks nothing like them
Who is like me I watch drawing tutorials more the i draw hhhhhh
The answer to addiction (any addiction) is not "more discipline ", because if you could establish that discipline you wouldn't be addicted in the first place.
It requires an understanding of the causes and a subsequent mind shift.
Please state in the title which episode this is taken from! This stuff is a bit click baitey.
@AK it's in the description
@@johnb5797 yes, hence "state in the title"
This isn't click baitey. Click bait is when you promise something in a title but don't give the substance that was promised. However, the title of this video is based on the content in the video.
@@bloopboop9320 that's up to interpretation. I got the impression that there was new content uploaded, and thus my time was wasted by clicking on the notification. Adding the episode number is pretty standard practice when uploading clips from podcasts.
@@kullenberg Most big podcasts don't label the episode numbers in the clips' title (or from what I've watched). They keep it anonymous as to what episode it is so that it is more available to a general audience. It is easier to search for and more accessible when the episode number is squished into the title. Usually the episode number is in the description when its a podcast clip (from what I've watched at least, but I could be wrong.
