What’s your favorite Draftsmen memory?
Edit: Also, note from Marshall- Harold Pinter's The Homecoming was from 1964, not the 50s
"Well, it depends ...."
Favorite Episode: Sketchbooking
Favorite Memory: Marshall's singing moments, or Stan and Marshall just ribbing on each other for little things 😂
The time in the future where you came back and said, we are doing a new podcast!
The realization that if I want to become a parent, I need to establish my career in entertainment arts first, and the DIY art school (it's my go to series to relisten). I'm soon to begin teaching basic drawing at college where I work; all thanks to your wonderful advice and examples of life. Really appreciated your company during lockdown. So long.
Marshall schooling Stan when they were negotiating for his art 😂
As someone who's only recently discovered this podcast, and has started at season 1 to listen from the beginning, this is a bummer! I've thoroughly enjoyed the information, advice, insight, and inspiration this has given me. I love the dynamics between the two of you, and it quickly became one of my favorite things to listen to.
Agree!
"Is this the end of Draftsmen?"
"It depends ..."

Excited for Marshall's book review podcast or any type of podcast he chooses to do. He's an endless encyclopedia of interesting thinkers, will follow 100%
This made me incredibly sad. Im hoping to find a similar podcast to this one, but I dont think anyone can compete with Marshall's voice & charm
The only other Podcast I can think is similar to Draftmen is Ninja Mountain Scroll podcast, they had a number of Fantasy and Scifi illiustratior who talk about the industry and their life experience. It has over 125 episode before it ended but sadly many have been lost during server migration. The artist Socar Myles is one of the host and is funny.
It was, indeed, the golden age of Stan and Marshall podcasts😪
Hopefully there will be an annual holiday special or something🤔
@@ZoungyArt They really need to do episode when their something new in the industry that could effect everyone, like when NFT started going big.
@@ZoungyArt that is always a possibility
@@Underworlddream we will look at doing an episode or two if something newsworthy comes up throughout the year.
Aw I'm so sad it's ending! This podcast gave me comfort and encouraged me when I was feeling down through my art journey :) Thank you for the fun times Stan and Marshall!
Please don't end the Draftsmen!!! 😭😭💔💔 It has been such an incredible podcast and even my bf who isn't into art started to listen to the episodes with me because it was such a great quality podcast.
You're both heros in every artist's journey. The therapeutic voice of Marshall and positive energy of Stan. There's no boring moment listening to both of you. . Draftsmen is the best.
I only started seriously studying drawing two years ago, at the age of 28. Marshall and Stan have been like a compass and a north star to me. Thank you for all your wisdom!!!
I find myself going back into episodes all the time. Listening to this show helped me get back into art/drawing. Thank you for the help and all the content!
Sad because we know how rare it is to find two artists who can contribute so much to your life.
The hours I’ve spent listening to this podcast while working on my art have been so enjoyable. Very sad to see it end.
U don't have to end doing podcasts. just treat Draftsmen as a segment to a whole & begin a new segment (like Story podcasts, Perspective podcasts, Animation podcasts). Draftsmen is like a root to many branches of art creation. Just a suggestion.
Also invite other creatives to host segments that they feel are important for beginning/all creatives to know about. That way, u guys won't even have to be present necessarily. I forgot to add that part.
We won't have weekly content on this channel anymore but we are looking to turn it into an interview channel where we'll post all our interviews with artists
A cool take on the artist interviews would be if you traveled to important collections of Draftsmenship such as... Brandywine River Museum, Delaware Art Museum, Norman Rockwell Museum, Frazetta, etc. And observed and talked about art in those spaces, in front of the actual pieces, with your guests.
@@ZoungyArt that would be cool but highly unlikely since one of the reasons we're ending the podcast is to work on other projects and traveling to art museums would take a lot of work and time to coordinate.
its not over itll just be proko Lol
I've learnt so much from guest interviews, especially James Gurney. So if you're running out of stuff yo talk about, just doing interviews with inspirational artists would be sooo appreciated. I would love to see so mamy more people on here.
Yeah that's what we're looking to turn this channel into 😄
@@Draftsmen Oh damn. This is like my Make-A-Wish, what I wanted came truee lol! I hope it's both Stan and Marshall doing the interviews. I really look forward to seeing people like Iain McCaig and Craig Mullins on this channel! Love you guys so much! Thanks for everything! ❤️
@@varuntulsyan2558 it would probably be one or the other but who knows :)
@@Draftsmen We want more Marshall content in the future, das all!😌
yeaaah definetly my favourite one too
I could see this coming for a while now. Theres only so much you can tell beginners about draftsmanship, and after a while, I've noticed overlap in the content, and the questions. I'd love to get a podcast where they just talk about nonsense, but I understand the need to move on.
As all the other comments have said, this is a sad day indeed, but I'm so grateful that we got these past 3 seasons. Thank you. The knowledge I've gotten from this podcast has been invaluable. Wishing you all the best.
A few episodes ago I noticed Marshall started to accidentally repeat his stories and the book review episode when Proko also started mixing up excerpts from the wrong books. That's when I realized the episodes were starting to become too similar and their time had come. It was a very life changing journey following you guys since the day the first episode aired till today.
I think every episode before this past few ones (excluding the controversial social justice episode) were very entertaining and have been my weekly source of epiphanies for so long. I have no favourites, but I do admit the last few episodes were a bit lacking in unique content and value.
If you guys ever want more content, you can always do more interviews, a lot more. Bring in abstract artists, children book authors and illustrators, graphic novel writers and illustrators. If you can bring in a curator and an animation director the ground is open for who can share their wisdom here. What's it like working in advertisement, an episode on notable art collaboration, politcal Art, working for the government, art journalism, industrial art, maybe some weird/interesting art movements no one has heard of. I see the lack of content as an opportunity to turn the podcast into a learning environment for you guys as well the listeners. Bringing in other artist just seems like the next logical step. But i understand if you guys have other projects you would prefer to put these efforts into.
I'm just saying, I don't believe 3 Seasons is nearly long enough to cover all there is to the visual arts.
Love the work you guys and the Proko Team have done for us, looking forward to see what next you guys have in store.
This is very similar to what happened with Rhett and link. They always tell the same stories and can’t remember anything from previous episodes. But people still watch and listen for the personalities, regardless of the topic. So while I know they aren’t officially ending the podcast, it would be great to see more than 1-2 episodes a year
Working for the goverment? What
@@kullenberg maybe he meant because they are both professors? Or use to be. Working in the public school system as an art teacher is working for the government I think...
They should hire this person if they decide to reboot the podcast. Lots of good ideas here.
Haven’t watched yet but please don’t end this!!!! It makes our weeks so much better!
Well thank you guys for all this years of wisdom and entertainment. I always looked forward to Tuesdays, I really hope Marshall does something similar with new guests and book reviews.
Awww man, this made me sad. Kind of like the empty feeling of having watched the final episode of a favorite TV series. Thanks for the 90+ hours of studio company!!!
It's the first time I've ever seen a podcast come to an end. Thank you for the important art lessons and the good memories you've given us.
Two Words: Hello Internet. At least with this one we got proper closure.
For some reason I can read your comment on my notifications but not here, so I'm going to paste it here: "yes it's just another business closing for Stan, he never respected Marshall anyway. He's always Mocking whatever Marshall is saying."
I wouldn't say he never respected Marshall, but I think most people forget this was a business relation for both of them. Stan wanted to do a podcast to promote his brand and Marshall wanted exposure to attract students. I think they both succeeded and Marshall admits that the podcast has given him a lot of exposure and that he has more students now than he knows what to do with them. Now that doing the podcast requires commuting to a location it is possible that he simply has no interest in investing so much time, money and effort into it (pretty understandable, I would do the same). I would have never have heard of Marshall had it not been for the podcast and I can say that I will keep an eye out for whatever he decides to do next.
@@richirare That was just my knee-jerk reaction to the show having to come to an end. It's really sad because I always look forward to it every week, and Marshall was always so entertaining to listen to, I wish other podcasts or channels have him as their guest. Anyone with a similar wavelength and enthusiasm as him.
I just bloody found you 4 days ago! Thank you for what you do. Blessings for your futures.
I want to say that your podcast really helped me out. Though it's not a drastic change, over the pandemic I went from programming to rigging within 3D animation. I have been doing studies and recreating the cartoons I grew up with from 2D to 3D. My mindset has calmed about art, I have less jealousy for those who are successful and more admiration. It's been inspiring listening to you two discuss philosophies and practicalities about art and you've been a major part of why I want to further my learning. I hope one day I can say hi at a convention, your podcast meant a lot to me.
Thank you Stan and Marshall.
Really did not see this coming :// BUT gotta thank you guys, the guests, team behind it and the audience so so much for making this podcast one of my- THE MOST favorite one ever. The timing of me finding out about this podcast just really saved me from having a mid-life crisis. As an artist who just graduated this year, you guys have taught me what and how to learn with discipline, patience, and love. Thanks to you guys, I've been able to narrow down what path to choose which was my main issue. So once again, thank you everyone (even those who comment under) for shaping me into what I am today, and what I will become. Goodluck to all of you!!
Hands down, the best informative art podcast there ever is in UA-cam, and for free! Sad to see the season ending,
I am definitely looking forward to future seasons. Topics may be running out, but from the bottom of my heart, please make more! Thank you for your videos and insights!
I discovered this podcast about two years ago and since then my art and artistic knowledge have improved so much! I'm incredibly thankful for this podcast and appreciate your work. I always listen to "Draftsmen" when I draw or paint and it gives me inspiration to improve so I'm quite sad the podcast is ending :/
I'd be so keen for a storytelling podcast/online course! 👀❤️ Count me in, Marshall
This show helped me rediscover my passion when I was seriously burnt out during lockdown. It's bittersweet, but truly I'm just glad for all the shows you already did. Hope to meet you both at some point down the road!
Thanks to UA-cam, I already knew about Proko's work, but knowing a little about Marshall was sensational. You were close friends in a period of social distancing. Thanks. Greetings from Porto Alegre/Brazil.
When Marshall said "Kanye? Is he a celebrity or something?" omg I lmao, I'm gonna miss him so much on here!
So sad, these podcast helped me so much. Thank you guys so much for your work.
Watched every episode since Day 1 and I learned SO much. Thank you guys for everything!
Aaw, bummer! I can completely understand that you both have other responsibilities to get to, and that if an end feels natural that you should go for it. After all, dragging it out when you're out of ideas is just gonna be a waste of you guy's energy. But let if be known that I'll be really sad when it's over!
Really hoping you two get more ideas to talk about and have the ability to make more episodes in the future because you're my favorite podcast ⭐ much love!
Such a sad news, this is the only podcast I ‘Watch’ and helps me a lot in my self taught journey. Gonna miss you Stan and Marshall! This podcast was gold.
Wow… gutted. Loved watching fans hearing you two speak, and your dynamic was so refreshing as well as because it lended to your well rounded conversations. Will miss you both in this format!!
I would love a podcast with Marshall doing book reviews!
A book review podcast from Marshall would be great! You are so insightful! Your reviews of books with all your wisdom and experience was invaluable. Rich fodder for the mind.
It makes me sad that the podcast is over, I learned so much about art and creative expression from you too. I always recommended your channel to artists/designers cuz you gave the best advice
Thank you Marshall and Stan and everyone behind the camera!
I really love your podcast! The different opinions from you guys, the experience you shared with us, the ideas and opinions and of course the guests, I really enjoyed watching and listening to your podcast!
I learned a lot thank you! I'm honest I will miss it! T_T
All good things. I'm okay with this. There's so much to do and so much to see, to cling to one thing forever isn't worth it.
Honestly, there's so much content to view and thousands of podcasts. While this was unique, it has served it's purpose.
You guys are amazing though! I loved every bit of it. I will always treasure these.
Thanks for everything, you guys. I'm not sad, in fact I can't wait to see what else you guys will release. It's a beautiful thing!
Definitely, i would rather have an impacting juicy run rather than have it slowly die out because all the topics have been hashed and rehashed.
@@brettinabox5607 Exactly! It's the cycle of all things. Growth and decay. Life and death. And so on... 😌
As they say.. all good things must come to an end. It was an honor to have learned, listened and laughed within these almost 100 hours.
Sad news. I enjoyed this podcast and got a lot of inspiration from both of you. Thank you for everything, I'll try my best!
I'm so grateful for this podcast and all the information and nuggets of knowledge both Marshall and Stan have laid out throughout the show. Draftmen podcast has added a lot of goodness to my life during rough times. I feel like I've saved time, and money and gained new perspectives and inspiration to learn more in general. Thanks for your fun, awkward laughs, delightful conversations and sharing your knowledge. Much love!
This podcast was absurdist theater. Loved it.
Sad to hear this, but thanks to you all for putting out consistently high quality, entertaining programmes. I’ll miss ya.
Sad that it is ending, love to hear you both talking about art, learned a lot along the way. Looking forward to Marshal's book club.
Personally; I wish Marshall would do more videos like the one he did of the horses sketching while using different tools - now that video was cool...and informative, too.
Sad to hear this news, but all good things must come to an end. I'm sure a lot of the voicemails were getting repetitive, haha.
When you mentioned that certain topics would be better suited as courses than podcasts, I had the thought that maybe in the future you both could do podcast-style conversations where you bring on Proko teachers and discuss some of the courses they've created and why. That sounds a little like blantant self-promotion, because, well... it is! And I think that the audience that listens to these podcasts would be some of the best targets to market to. Anyways, thank you both for everything and looking forward to your new projects in years to come!
Real bummer and so soon after you FINALLY returned to the studio
When you are expecting wholesome art discussion and Marshall bombards you with existentialism with Waiting for Godot
I'm sad because I just found this podcast and have been binging it. I am very grateful I found it, and I will miss your words of wisdom. Thank you for all your time and energy for this show. You've kept me going and believing in myself day after day.
Thank you Stan & Marshall, these are great podcasts! It's not a problem if there are topics that aren't about art, because I like the variety - it's interesting & good for creativity.
This ruined my night. I can’t sleep now probably. I remember excitedly waiting for the first episode to come out because, finally, an art podcast worth listening to was coming out. I listened to it every week when I mowed the grass. Now I guess my grass will never get mowed again….
I totally love your podcasts, I'm just at season two maybe for the reason that I watch the same episode two or three times before moving on to the next one. They are so interesting bc you don't learn just about just drawing. I hope you guys continue to make them, maybe not that often bc of the reasons you have, but I hope you don't stop making them.
With all these subscribers, and the quality of the content, I would be a shame if this ended, I love all the stuff you guys put out and would be sad to see you go
I've had such a great time listening to both of you discussing such a wide range of topics over the last 3 seasons. Thank you for all the good you put out here Marshal and Stan!
I will really miss listening to you guys! Thanks for 3 great seasons (also no shame in changing your minds...)!
You have no idea how I'm gonna miss this podcast. I hope someday you guys comeback to make more amazing conversations about art and about learning art specifically. This is- well was, my favorite podcast, it's time to relisten to every episode again and again on loop.
The only possible reply to the title of this episode is: hell no!
😬
@@Draftsmen how about making a draftsmen comedy episode once a month or once every two months? We need you two together 😁
I wish you both (and everyone working on the show) luck in whatever comes next! This show has been legendary and there will never be another one like it. Thank you for all your hard work in covering so many topics that have been helpful to me and thousands of others, and I look forward to the remainder of season 3 :)
I really enjoyed this podcast, even the ones that where not for me, i still enjoyed them, its sad knowing it could end, i always looked forward to them. Thank draftsmen
Wow, I just listened to the Tolstoy book on Audible while driving to a plein air event. Basic premise: Language is communicating ideas, Art is communicating ("intercourse") emotions. Short Take -- Thought he started with a GREAT definition of art, and then spent way to long abusing and mis-applying his definition to condemn things he did not like (especially Wagner's music). But all of his attacks on Shakespare, Wagner, etc, were basically violating his own definition. I lean towards keeping Tolstoys theory and ignoring his ignorance in applying it. :) Thank you for bringing it up Marshall!!!!!
I have a WIDE definition of "art", but the concept of "Intercourse" is at its heart. Those that think the "unwashed' are too stupid to understand their works are not getting it. I think great art communicates with the great masses (inclusive). I think great art attempts to speak to as many as possible to communicate the feelings of the heart at the artist in the time in which the art "inception" occurs. But then, I love Van Gogh (and John Cleese) so I am probably a bit daft.
And Godet is not the same as Seinfeld! :)
Gonna miss you gents! Thank you!!!!
Ahh wait! This is my favorite podcast! I'm so sad! The book reviews, the interviews, the topics! It's amazing! Would love for you guys to reconsider
Ahh so sad the podcast is going to stop! Thank you Stan and Marshall and the Proko team for making this inspiring podcast. Looking forward to the interviews!
Already waiting for the reunion episode 😄
Thank you for everything 💕
STANNN!!! Everyone is gonna ask the same dumb questions forever... There’s not a question you can answer that would make people understand until they experience and critique their own decisions...
PLEASE just talk!! I love listening to you and Marshall just hang out and talk and joke and goof off.. it feels like family dinner 😭😭 I’m really sad I might shed some tears!
What do you mean The End!? 😱 Nooo!
But seriously, I regularly send people to watch certain episodes of Draftsmen because how reasonably and thoroughly you go through important (not only for artists) subjects. You give us a lot of knowledge and also help putting some orders to ideas we already have. It always feels to me like going to classes with my favourite professors back at university where I studied philologies :)
I missed the random facts or random obsessions. Through that i discovered great courses, so thanks Marshall. And thanks both of you for all your work and great content.
THIS IS SO SAD! I understand but I could hear you talk about art related things forever! I hope there is a DRAFTSMEN 2.0 season 01 lol
I so enjoyed the podcast as a whole, learnt a lot of new things and still learning. Will keep coming back to these podcasts whenever I am drawing. Please keep doing these podcasts. I absolutely loved Draftsman !!!
Well this sucks. Love this podcast. I listen to these constantly. You guys have helped my art work and well being. What a bummer. This has literally been a crappy day.
DON'T END IT, REASON A ,IT'S THE BEST ART PODCAST I'VE LISTENED TO AND REASON B, MARSHALL
What is art? The creation of Art is focused madness. Illustration, is art with purpose.
noooo this is my favorite podcast 😫 pls keep making more
Well, damn
Not gonna find another one like this for a long time, if ever.
What painting is the orange red one behind Marshall ?
Sad news... really sad. I love this show. I feel like I'm part of something greater than me. I love your conversations. You guys are my favorites teachers. I will miss you.
I was looking forward to new episodes every week :( I understand your reasons, but I think I will end up rewatching the podcast from season 1
heres an idea, dont end the podcast
So long, and thanks for all the fish!
Im so sad this is ending.
This was my favorite podcast
I'll miss this podcast! I learned so much from you guys, especially Marshall's knowledge bombs and Stan's great insights 💕
I'm going to miss the podcast I hope you all continue to do interviews with varies artist
The drug episode was memorable and fun, especially because of the breaking bad costumes. I don’t think Marshall should regret it at all. Drugs are part of our reality. There’s no point in pretending they don’t exist. Dealing with the topic with the wisdom of an adult was a good call.
I think this is one of those things, where probably nobody was thinking it before at all, but now that you've said it, that youre out of ideas, we're all like 'oh well i guess its true.'
I understand the reason, but i am super sad about it. Love you guys. Thanks for all the amazing knowledge shared and the good times!!
Well that has been an adventure, listening to you guys was an infinite source of inspiration and knowledge, I wouldn't trade it for any other podcast : ] Good luck on new projects!
*Draftsmen Podcast centered around the analysis of comic book art*
in this era of webcomic and digital sequential narratives
would make A LOT of sense as something youy would bring
a whole new look about as it was never done before and many young artists could benefit from.
The Draftsmen uniquely trained eye analysis on artists such as
Dave McKean, Mike Mignola, Neal Adams, Brian Bolland, Frank Miller, Jack Kirby
would truly make justice not only to the medium, but also a much-needed exploration of classic artwork.
There is a very powerful instinctive thing that draw many of as to drawing.
There are even "comic book scholars" who might know their names and layout methods,
but know very little about the underlying graphic elements.
*You two are the kind of professionals whose potentially unique analysis of comics would blow many minds in a row*
Perhaps a better Draftsmen approach could be to make special episodes only.
As the comics medium has shown time and again,
some things need to be deconstructed first to achieve their best form.
I'm grateful from Draftsmen podcasts if they come from the heart without forcing anything.
I think all of the still-subscribers would agree.
I just saw this on my youtube's notification, still can not believe it is the last episode of draftsmen :(
Not quite the end. This will be the last season, but we'll still have episodes coming out in November and early December
Well it's been very enjoyable to watch & listen to the podcast, while drawing. So thank you and good for you to end the show at its height, before it'd become stale.
i liked book reviews bc of marshal, it was pretty obvious stan didnt like it. Stans banter still added to those episodes but its hard to be as invested in books as marshal
And now what will I listen to while painting outside? :(
Really enjoyed the podcast, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences.
(The episode about drugs was one of my favorites :D)
I listened to the Tolstoy book via Audible while driving through MN on the way to an art event on the North Shore. My takeaway was the point that writing uses language to communicate ideas; art uses language to communicate emotions. I liked the definition as I turned it over as the miles passed. And it has become a core point in my discussion of the topic of What is Art. My take on the book is Tolstoy came up with a solid start on a definition and then spent the rest of the book being a grumpy old man to ignore his definition to attack things he did not like. All of his examples met his definition, but Tolstoy makes the mistake of confusing "not liking the emotional message" with a false claim it is "not an emotional message."
This podcast is a very nice and appropriately sized collection of episodes. It didn’t need to go on like the simpsons. Thanks so much if I have any art questions I will always come back to these. It was a pleasure.
Everything has its end, alas! I'll miss Marshall's insight and book reviews, most of all!
7:15 yes you can do a story craft podcast. The creator of Lessons from the Screenplay started a podcast where he and a few friends break down the story structure of movies, discuss what works and doesn't work, etc. And because there's an endless flow of movies and TV, there's an endless supply of content to talk about!
I think you two could do a lot of interviews with other artists and do the story podcasts that you're talking about.
Never stop this show please :(
There goes my weekly dose of happiness :'(
Uh oh. In the process of watching this ... well, geez, that's too bad.
You guys have done a great job with these!
