Looking for a mentor? Scott Flanders (aka Shapecarver) just started a patreon and has mentorship slots open. You can find his page here - www.patreon.com/shapecarver

What I got from this video is that, you have to show potential and commitment to be a mentee, and if you do not possess either of those you can pay draftmen willing to take the money to do so. But at which point in their life should one consider chasing after a mentor? When should I guess that I am promising enough to be mentored? I understand that me asking this question indirectly means that I am not promising just yet but I would like to know when should I approach people with more experience. If anyone reading the comments has good advice on these questions, I would appreciate it very much. By the way, keeping advice is a good advice, I'll keep it. Thank you for the video.

Now I am still a spry young lad with little experience, but I think any point in your art journey is the right time to try to get a mentor.
Some mentors may want to only mentor students who are already at a certain level, but if you’re serious about finding a mentor, you should continuously and consistently search for a mentor regardless of your current ability. The whole point of a mentor is to help you learn and grow, so getting one sooner is logically reasonable.
And then there is also “peer mentorship” which is a not as good, but a still valuable option. I have been searching for peers as they are much more common than a willing mentor.

@@jaydon4574 Well, with just that last sentence you are risking having a peer called Chillax. Heh, I am young too, to be honest. I really wouldn't mind getting a peer and seeing how other people "walk" this "journey".

I have just recently met two others who are interested in being peers and we are currently organizing and planning a discord art community. If you think you might be interested, I can send you the discord server link :).

@@jaydon4574 I am interested, it's just that I am quite low levelled in terms of drawing and I... You know what, whatever. If anything I'll learn from you guys and if you don't want me there because I'm bad, I'll see myself out. I am interested in a peer group and I definitely want in.

Stephen Bauman was a teacher at the FAA in Sweden and the guy was very charming but also quite overwhelming. especially bc what he teached was pretty differnet from the rest of the program (very detailed anatomy vs Sight Size) so I can completly see him working very well with something like Patreon where you control a little more how much Bauman you consume.

Nowadays one would choose an online art teacher, and then become a patreon. Most online art teachers with Patreon websites do offer to critisize your artwork. So if this works well, and you show your devotion to art and work on your skills, and also improve your art, why wouldn't they mentor you in the future? If an art teacher has been a great part in your good art skills, then you would be an artist he or she would be proud of and so be your mentor.

I wanna know where can I find art parents because I always get so overwhelmed when I try to find an art parent no only because they are so many but because I don't know where to find them, I would love to get a book or a website where I can just browse masters and their best stuff, every time I go to google and type something like "fine art masters" I get the same masters all the time.

Go to (local) art museums. There are way more than just the typical ones everybody allready knows. Ask yourself what kind of art you like and do some research on that topic in general (for example search for comicbook artists on pinterest, artstation or on instagram). Speak with other artists and ask them what they like or watch videos of them talking about that topic.
Buy "random" books about art. I for example got an encyclopedia abpu the history of art and there are a lot of great artists in there. Google specific things like "hungarian artists" or any other countries (not only american/western ones). Or go to an free art lecture at a local university. There are also
calendar and each day has a new painting on it (yesterdays paintng was "Mantes" by Camille Corot).

@@XComedYCaTX I was going to write something like this. Go to museums and galleries. Specifically ones that show art that you are after. For example, don't go to a modern art museum if you want to learn renaissance/realistic looking art.
Better if there are new exhibits of new artists. You can probably ask around then
