Accucraft Rio Grande Southern #1 Baby Goose?

- The lesser-known Rio Grande Southern rail car is Rio Grande Southern #1. A Ford Model T converted to a 4 passenger rail car. Accucraft offered it in brass in 1:20.3 scale.
A good runner, this little car is "stinking cute". The car was built in 1913, from a Model T of the same vintage. Used mostly to inspect rails, it must have also been a fun way to get across the line.
The Rio Grande Southern was built in spectacular scenery. Crossing over seemingly impossible mountain passes. The line was well known for its depression-era "galloping geese", large rail cars used to transport people mail and freight. But long before the geese, they built this "baby goose".
I remember when you guys started 6 or 7 years ago, you've never lost the magic and fun. It's great to see, keep it up!
Hi. And THANKS 🙏. 7 more coming up!
Thx again
Goosing the goose I see.
If anything defines "Stinkin' Cute", it is the RGS No.1
We agree
Love that little baby goose. And I have to say I love you two. When I saw you both laughing at the beginning of the video, I started laughing too. Kayron must have eaten some giggle soup. Keep laughing, that keeps you young. ❣️ I look forward to Tuesdays, because of your videos.
Yes sometimes we all just get the giggles right
If it is not quite a goose it would be a Gosling. Hello from Detroit Michigan 🤣👋👋👋
Don't you hate it when you get the giggles??
Beautiful little model.
Really a nice model.. thank you lots of fun at your house .
This is a fun one too!
You have all the coolest toys !!!
Hi mike. Thanks! More coming. On to the logging stuff.
Nice model! Its a little geeseling! 🤣 With you guys laughing Im sitting here laughing! Have a great day and keep on screwing around with trains! Take care!
Hey Guys, Thanks for the laughs this morning. I really needed a good chuckle, myself.
Odd people are the ones that make the world go around. They are called eccentrics. I use the analogy of the steam engine to describe it.
In short if it were not for that little old eccentric rod, the big rod doesn't move, thereby driving the whole train.
Cool looking model. I can't wait to see trains running. ;-)
The problem with that eccentric is it keeps reversing its position on things
Love you guys. What a great show
Thanks 🙏
Poor Kayron looks like she was goosed at the start of the video.
🤦🏼♂️
This is new. A baby goose? The ugly duckling? This I have not witnessed before. I love it!
Love watching you two having fun!
I enjoyed learning about the model T RR conversion.
Thanks again for another great video!
Hi. Thanks!!!!
If you guys would put me in your will that would be great. You've got so much awesome, interesting, and amazing things. Not only the trains but things like the Ford radiator. Y'all are awesome! Love the videos! Stay well. -Wil 👍
I wanted a model a Until I saw this episode ,Not no Moe .Thank you that was a fun Ride, Snow and rain curtain was a hoot!
Kool little goose! Kayron just made the video more fun!
Yes I was beginning to worry when she got that terminal case of the giggles! Turned out the terminal involved with a Depot!
You guys are unique!
Well thank you! I think. Unique give me a lot of different things. But generally speaking I think of unique is being very good so thank you!
O kayon must be having fun today 😁👍
Always
I know that you guys will not run out of things to talk about. Especially now. Good video.
Hi Ken and G thanks!
When our kids were little we called their bursts of laughter for no apparent reason, "the tired jollies." That is perhaps what is going on at 7:00.
I think that happens to us all from time to time. As you get older it happens more often
You two are Awesome.
Gee thanks!!!!
What a surprise. Was an easy conversion in the day. I think you should name it "OddJob".
You could use a sugar cube speaker with a decoder chip and add a spring copper pick up wiper to the inside of the wheels 👀👀 love the show👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍
I want to try to set that up.
Love watching you two! ...Claude
I had no idea how the old cars worked. Thinking about it Ford would be learning how to do everything from no concept. Thanks for sharing and please tell us what caused Karyn to laugh so much.
Ok ! You guys must have been smoking some good stuff.
Dale, are you sure you weren't tickling Karyn under the desk? When she commences giggling, you must have to allow it to run its course, and you did. Everyone has experienced a great laugh.
Darn you guessed!!
That is just cute. It comes back to the necessity of invention. Over the years I've seen photos of this unit or one's like it. I guess you could say this is the forerunner of the gas powered speeders.
Side note, three or four times in the late 60s and early 70s I saw a cabbed speeder that was about 14 feet long. They were in Canadian Rail livery. Over the years I've not seen a rig like them here in the States. Have you seen anything like that in your wanderings?
Yes I must agree with the boss lady there it is stinking cute.... LoL 😂😆😂😆😂😆
and I must thank you kids very much because I needed a good laugh today and you all should give it to me thank you so very much... When you get my age sometimes there's not really much to laugh about some days and this is one of some days. But now you kids are giving me a good reason to laugh man I love you for it... You could be blessed in Jesus name...BBE 🤗🤗
Very nice I finished building a Hon30 tank engine out of a kato motor and plastic and it’s nothing fantastic but it’s pretty good for a first time scratch building a locomotive
Baby goose, the car on train wheels
Nice little thing. Before installing a DCC decoder, you should check the stalling current of the motor. The tiny N scale sound decoders only support 1 Amp. But maybe the motor need a lot less.
Cute little model. Maybe you could hide the command module up in the canopy?
Ha ha! I paused the video to add the comment and when I restarted it what was the first thing you said! ;-)
Well that is a cool baby goose, MTH has an 0 gauge #5 goose im looking at to move yard workers back to the city hummmm...
05 is our favorite!
I like the Horseless wagon era but was not heavy into it. With pre 30s alot of manufacturers I recently learned that most built rolling chassis with firewall to rad then the body was stamped by a 3rd party. Ford did alot of in-house but would it be a possibility that they originally bought #1 as a running chassis? By 1910 alot of manufacturers were making "runabout's" and few started putting boxes on the back before trucks were common.
Love the mods to the t. Smith form a truck. And so on. What a time.
This was primarily used for track inspection
And as I hear the president of the railroad used it just at first.
😮I’ve seen this in videos but I never knew it’s story
So, are you going to de-chrome the radiator?
Or cooper plate it.
And how exactly does a person apply those three pedals at once? I know at one time I wanted to grow another foot; so now I know why...
Well they’re very close together the trick is not applying all three at the same time!
Ball of goof...or goof balls. Which were you? Just goofy 🤪😋 I'm in Yuma AZ railroad hotel away from home terminal on the UP.
And now I know why I do not want to drive a Model T vehicle.
Enjoyed the explanation though.
Perhaps RGS bought it as a running chassis or even a kit of parts, and then built the body and fitting railway specific gear.
They were so cheap I’m willing to bet they just bought a roadster and then through the body away
I needed this diversion, after the past week in DC. (For which the details coming out continue to paint a grimmer & grimmer of the underlying causes.
Yeah DC. Really breaks our heart to see that happening here in America. I’ve had so many of my friends say that they had to buy an assault weapon so that they could be prepared to see the constitution from most that we take it away. Now turns out they’re the ones trying to take it away. Sigh...
@@ToyManTelevision I've been afeared of that. It's the old hammer metaphor ("everything starts looking like a nail....")
Best to you both!
Can you add power contacts to the 2nd axle? Should help performance or add a 'keep-a-live' so the single contract axle would get across any 'dead spots'. Have a great day! (I know Karyn is)
Yeah I think if I can just add the CC and I keep alive that will solve everything and give me total control over sound in headlights and everything. Really be fun project to figure out how to fit that in the gas tank.
The amp draw on that thing must be low enough to use an HO scale decoder.
Yup. Small can motor. No load at all
A big fat guy in a suit in the back seat, hide the decoder inside him!
:):):):) . A breeze to drive. :-o
Are you saying it’s easier with the wind to your back? Because in fact it is!
@@ToyManTelevision 😂
You should add g scale figures to your model trains to give them a littel more life to your layout
I have a passion for making those in so I should do that and show it on the channel! The upside of murder should get to put together exactly what you want
Hello!
So where did you find this? Far too neat!
Hi Ken. It’s Accucraft. They were in the hobby shops years back. I still see them on eBay.
@@ToyManTelevision It is neat! I like the intro to your videos. The large Model T model you show brings back fond childhood memories. Also I use to go to hobby stores and look at the brass HO engines and wished I could have one.
Dale; Googled Accucraft and Nob’s your Uncle the inspection car shows up! It is a neat model. That’s why I have an N scale one. Con Cor cleaned out their stock but I wasn’t smart enough to buy one at the sale price. However I was persistent and they found one. Of course it was more expensive. But they are stinking cute. I have seen them in person at the Colorado Railway Museum. See you Sunday?
@@kenshores9900 sadly no. We are sora in for now. I had an infection in my knee and foot. Seems gone now. But can’t get out much.
@@ToyManTelevision Dale: Hope you get feeling better soon. Warmed apple juice with rum helps relief knee pain. Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of rum! (I sail also!) but hot totties will make you feel better in moderation.
Goose no.1 the little one was build for the RGS President and when build the new paper where saying that it could do 60 mph but one day the President took his wife on a trip in 1 and they got going a little to fast and they end up with 1 upside down in a river there where some injuries and his wife said that she would never ride in it again.
I sort of figured it might be something like a VIP inspection vehicle
