    I always thought of the Rio Grand Southern as a model railroaders railroad, but at full scale. The scenery, the rolling stock, the eccentricity. Everything so much seemed simply an eclectic model railroad, masquerading as a company while meanwhile putting everyone on, so some guys got to play with their full sized trains with a healthy dose of insane imagination, kit bashing, and scratch building..... The Gorre & Daphetid, before there was a Gorre & Daphetid.....

      I believe your right. There is a Canadian guy that has what must be the best Rio Grande Southern model in SN3. I think you will find him at CVNN You Tube channel, not reals sur f that is correct.

    Totally enjoyed your video. Beautiful model BTW. I'm a very lucky individual! I built and own a scratch built 2 1/2 inch scale model of Goose #2. First time running in 1992. I recently changed the engine for more dependable running. And, yes, it does 'rock and roll' down the tracks. I did take a few 'liberties' when building my Goose2. (pics can be found on facebook). Thank you again for this very enjoyable video.

    FWIW I pre-ordered, and still have the Accucraft Goose #2. It has run flawlessly, but for limited amounts, for well over 20 years. The only thing I have ever found fragile about the unit is the plastic "chain" drive connecting the rear wheel sets, but having lost one early, it never seemed to matter. I suspect that carefully opening your unit and cleaning any dust and sludge and refreshing the drive train oil will solve your problems. Mine has always run outside on track power - power pick-up has never been an issue. Please try cleaning before converting to DCC, etc. (I have limited run time because my current Standard Poodle seems to find my trains prey and successfully and relentlessly hunts them, if outside.)
    Also, as I recall, the original Accucraft price was a bit over $300, and the original car used is a Pierce Arrow.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  3 роки тому

      Hi. Yes I think I can get it to run well. Still plan on DCC. Yea they go for more like 600 now. The chains are fragile and hard to get from accucraft. Dang.

    I have the Broadway Limited On30 Goose 4. It was a real gem to get - priced inexpensively and runs quite well. Not sure how accurate it is though. I think it wobbles down the track, but it could be that I've had too many cocktails.

    If Accucraft keeps making them, and (the larger scales, presumably, like your venerable 20.3 specimen) can't always draw the power they need, I'd think it should be an easy mod to electrify the neutral 3rd axel.
    Of course, I have to remember: _Never second-guess another man's manufacturing trades, until you've ridden his entire sub in his Goose._

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  3 роки тому

      The key is to run DCC. Constant 18 volts into a cap and it will keep going no matter what. This is a low DC voltage into 4 wheels. So it really bad....

    • @77thTrombone
      @77thTrombone 3 роки тому

      @@ToyManTelevision I get it now. Having never made the leap to DCC, I missed the _constant_ DCV when you mentioned the higher track voltage in the video. Light bulb now on.

    Dale. most if not all model trains seem to have bright shiny wheels. Is it not possible to have a duller finish to the wheels, achieving a more realistic appearance, rather than toy like, and still maintain good electrical contact?

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  3 роки тому

      Well the contact area on a real wheel is shiny.. so the key is to paint the wheel to look dritty, dirty, dull but NOT the running surface. Its a trick. BUT in large scale anything is possable.... These models are stock. As delivered... they need a talking to.
