Excellent video. I played the first and second and my favorite is the first. I had put so many hours in that game and enjoyed every bit of it. My favorite hero is invisible woman. Her attacks we just so fun and super controlling. I would love another one to come out
the first 2 games were what got me into marvel and eventually comics in general, i just bought a used copy of 2 for 360 again recently and been playing the hell out of it. Ultimate Alliance 3 is fun too but eventually you get to a point in that game where you just have to grind to make your characters able to get the story, that game missing the shared experience from the first two games is also devastating because of how much more necessary leveling is compared to the first games with levels going all the way to 300
Great video. The 1st Ultimate Alliance is great because it carries over much from the X-Men legends games which were fun. The sequels just felt a bit bloated. Hopefully more games like the 1st come in the future.

Dr strange is a must use, he can insta kill someone, spider women and Ms marvel are the best charge range attack plus team healing and time slowdown, wolverine or sabertooth for my physical beast that can self heal. Then once you get silver surfer it's all over
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2 are hands down two of my favorite games. My son and I went through and beat both 1 & 2 on PS3 last year and it was such a blast. I think we will get some more controllers and have my daughters jump in on the next round. A classic couch co-op that never gets old on my book. I just wish I could still get all the DLCs for them.
The character for me that I discovered and loved ever since was both iron fist and moon knight. Ghost rider and blade were also amazing, but I really like iron fist with the chi and moon knight being Batman but with a white costume. And learning moon knight kills! Like Batman could never. But in defense of ultimate alliance 3, I think of it more of a milestone in history. At the time, we had to distinguish who had what rights to everything. Sony was still "in charge" with the producing and whatnot for spiderman as the Tom Holland movies were still in respects to Sony. Not to mention the multiverse movies still haven't came out at the time. With everything still seemingly segregated as to what properties are owned by what company, it was crazy to see ALL of these franchises back in one place. Crazier that Spider-Man was in a Nintendo exclusive game. Then to top it off, fantastic four dlc along with a campaign that almost acted like a fantastic 4 movie. That's not even mentioning the x men finally getting back with the avengers and going to the Xavier mansion and seeing juggernaut tear it down and getting locked in the danger room. Marvel vs Capcom couldn't even have mutants and I think it released a year before. So even tho I really hate playing the game, it has the most characters, it includes an arc in attilan, it actually reboots some character personalities that mix comic and movie iterations, and it jump started the license sharing that is somehow already being over saturated.
The first one was actual good RPG. For marvel back in 2000's. Idk why they cant do this again. But hey that's why they call it past magic. But yes i played the heck out of this game. Complete 100%
Whats frustrating is that there Is no legitimate way to play marvel ultimate alliance 1 with all the characters including the version exclusives. The only way I'm aware to do it is by pirating the game then modding it.
Great video my man. Literally most of our childhoods summed up tbh. I'll say Ultimate Alliance: Special Edition or Gold Edition will ALWAYS be the standard next to X-Men Legends II & Marvel vs Capcom 2 as far as Marvel Games. MUA2 wasn't bad I just disliked the fusion moves in lieu of the ultimate attacks from the first title. Definitely made each character feel less unique. Haven't gotten around to trying MUA3 yet but definitely plan on getting a Switch just to play it. I'd also recommend to anyone to check out X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse on the SNES, amazing soundtrack, as well as X-Men Children of The Atom on the PS1!
Gosh this games (especially the first one) were such a highlight in my childhood. Whenever I go to the local games store they always had the opening cinematic for MUA on repeat in their TV and I was so hooked. Finally got it on our psp and the number of hours I spent playing is insane, I enjoyed it so much it would be a dream come true if we ever got another installment for the newer consoles.
@Retro Rebound Hey man, you do realize Civil War was a comic story right? The way you word the video it is a bit unclear whether you do or not. It was an awesome crossover event in the marvel universe. With tie-ins told from different perspectives. So "Civil War" (the main event), Amazing Spiderman: Civil War: Wolverine, etc. There was even a second one much later.
I've heard the second one of these is good but i don't have any friends to play it with, i'd love to try it myself though and i hope you're doing better Matty, don't push yourself too hard buddy, health comes first :)
I haven't played MUA-3 yet, but I love those first two games. I remember Thor being pretty OP in those games. And I'm sure its been said already, but if you like the MUA games, you should look into the X-Men Legends games. There's a DC Superhero game that's a lot like those X-Men Legends/MUA games, but I can't quite remember the name of it. It might've just been called Justice League Legends or something.
@@_cameroncarey_ Yep. By Snowblind who first brought us Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath, and Champions: Return to Arms. Great games. All of 'em.
24:49 You probably know this already, but Elsa Bloodstone finally made her mainstream debut in Werewolf by Night on Disney+. Now you have another rabbit hole to get excited about. lol Thanks for sharing this video! I'm just old enough that I was largely introduced to Marvel via the deluge of 90's Marvel cartoons on Fox Kids. But I love this game series just like you! Still one of the most fully realized representations of these comic book characters as they properly exist outside of the movies. I hope you're enjoying Midnights Suns. I can't put the game down. I'm on day 32 in-game and I'm having so much fun just playing random maps, I still don't even have Cap or Wolverine unlocked. All the best!
I'm in the same nostalgic boat as you with the first game. MAU 1 is the single reason I consider myself a marvel nerd today. It explored so many characters, so many storylines, and had so many comic book details. If another Marvel Ultimate Alliance game could have it's level of depth, it would sell so well
This game played a huge part in my childhood because it helped me grow up to love superheroes especially Marvel heroes. I already knew a few Marvel superheroes before this game as a kid either from movies, tv shows, and games like the Marvel Superheroes fighting game but this game in particular was my introduction to so many characters that weren’t popular or that non comic fans never heard of before the MCU became a thing
I remember getting this game guys and it didn’t work on my 360. This was when I was about 5 years old I loved looking and keeping myself fixated on the physical copy of the case. With all the cool marvel hero’s and didn’t even know at the time I just seen spider man ! Hill, wolverine and iron man etc. I never got to experience the game since. Until now because with my allowance my money this week I’m buying the special edition that I’m compasses the dvd.
Played this game back to back as a kid 22 years later wondering where tf is the remake, and discovering it’s still underrated especially with all the marvel movies coming out every year
I always preferred ultimate alliance 2, but I still really enjoy the first game. The third game is good, but it has a different feel. Maybe it's nostalgia but the first 2 are special.
With the Insomniac leak, it pretty much confirms we wont see these again for a good few years as marvel isnt allowed to release a new title with Xmen characters without Insomniac.
Sir Matty, as a huge fan of the ultimate alliance series. May I request you do a rebound on X-Men legends. Also by raven software, I consider it to be the og of marvel arpg. As Kotor is to Mass Effect, X-Men legends is To ultimate alliance. Great video Mr Matty. ☺️
I played a lot of x men legends on PS2 back in the day. Great game. I didn't get around to playing the second game sadly. MUA3 is also pretty fun but its kind of disappointing how bad Scarlet Witch is gameplay wise.
Always preferred the X-Men Legends games to the Ultimate Alliance series cause I always felt the presentation was better (series should have stayed cel shaded). First Ultimate Alliance just felt like they were trying to cram in as many characters and locations as possible it never felt like cohesive to me. MUA3 brought that back a little bit for me story just had a better flow to it and you just had some great and memorable moments. Black Panther gets a hold of the Soul Stone and which causes him to be surrounded by the ghosts of all the old Black Panther's. That was awesome
Marvel ultimate alliance was a part of why I've been a marvel fan my whole life, and even if people say there's a fatigue (which they've said during phase 2) I'm still gonna be a fan of it and just about anything superhero related
I think it might just be a coincidence matty that it looks like it was a mobile game at one point to some that’s just the way they wanted to do the progression system maybe so you would spend more time grinding up the characters
Ultimate Alliance is my favorite multi-character Marvel game. I had played other Marvel games before it, but this was especially great at expanding my understanding of the Marvel universe, thanks to its multiple locations and characters. I think Marvel's Avengers could have served the same function, if it wasn't so focused on AIM (the setting is more similar to MUA2 than the original game). Hope the game manages to really expand in the future, but I'm sadly sceptical.
I never knew black panther so I would always use him. This also introduced me to beta ray bill and Neymar. When I have kids this will be their first video game If I can get it. There are 2 types of people in this world. The ones who learn from everything else and the ones who learn from ultimate alliance
Mua 2 is my favorite game of all time, I loved the story so much it hooked me immediately as a kid and i’ve played it more times than I can count. Mua 3 was a little dissapointing with how much it differed from the two.
25:21 the funny thing is that calling the MUA3 challenge rifts "Infinity Gauntlets" would have been a hilarious pun for a game mode considering...y'know...
First ultimate alliance really got me into marvel stuff when it first came out in high school. I liked marvel but I only really knew the X-men, iron man, hulk, and Spider-Man from their animated series in the 90s, and then blade from the movie. After this game, I got exposed to so many others and basically got me completely hooked into the comic books
There were a lot of good marvel games around that time. X-Men legends, X-Men legends 2, X-Men origins wolverine, Hulk ultimate destruction, Spiderman, Spider-Man 2, I can go on and on. Not sure why this narrative keeps getting pushed, but it's disingenuous to say that
Awesome video! One question so if I buy the Gold Edition the DLC is not available on disk like the Special edition you have? I wanted to know before I spend over $100 on the Gold Edition.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 is such a great game. Love how many hero and villains were in the game and it’s pretty much a love letter to the Marvel universe.
Ive just said this in another video recently lol, but personally, even tho MUA had better worlds to explore and go thru, MUA3's gameplay all throughout the game just felt so much better to play on repeat. Character Variety was much more of a thing compared to 1 and 2, even down to the basic attacks. Sure, it didnt have the same light-heavy chains that 1 and 2 had, but every character had those same attacks, so everyone was the same in the game, only being differentiated by their specials, and the special grabs you could do, so it could be boring pretty quickly when playing by yourself, compared to 3, where you could use Spider-Man, and stuff like his heavy attack could lead right into his double jump swinging, so you could just attack and just swing on, playing more into the agility of this character, and thats only one of them (This roster is huge). I also like how the difficult the game can be, compared to 1 and 2, where those games felt easy throughout, especially when you level up, no matter the difficulty, compared to 3, where the challenges can rise up very quickly. Thanks the dlc too, it also has so much content to go thru. Of course, the game is still very different from the others, I'd go and even say the gameplay is closer to Dynasty Warriors than the original MUA, but personally, I like that, even with no grabs. The visual style of the game is very different from the others obviously, but I very much like the blend of comic and slight realism they tried with this game, which works especially for the Switch hardware, and is honestly the kinda style that should've been done for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. The level up system is also very different and more common in mobile games now, compared to the previous games, but I dont mind it at all. I dont care for leveling up my stats even more in this game, since just leveling up my characters in general already does that, but if you want to to have very good stats in general to go thru the game at ur own difficulty, thats totally fine, and while i dont edit the crystals I get, I like how i can equip crystals that go very well with the attributes of each characters, like a crystal that enhances shock values of a character like Thor (MUA1 has something similar with the items that are dropped when beating bosses, but imo i care for those even less). All in all, MUA3 is pretty different from the other 2, but from really a gameplay perspective, I prefer 3 the most outta the trilogy, I haven't gotten bored with this game yet, so its a big solid reccomendation, and the one I'd recommend first.
MUA3 forces you to take mandatory damage because enemy attacks are very fast and you can no longer block/dodge cancel out of animations. I don't see how it can feel better when it is explicitly more more restrictive, and at times forces you to grind just so you can complete parts of the game.
That's certainly an interesting collector's item... but the contents aren't that unique. What you've got there is a downsized reprint of Civil War #1 by Mark Millar with the cover art changes to that of the game. I have the full size version of this issue from Comic Con '08, so I recognized it instantly. To make things more confusing, one of the cutscenes in the game is actually a panel-for-panel recreation of the entire issue, a bit of fancservice I always adored as the UA universe and the comic universe briefly reconverge. I never realized just how highly they hold this book Jean and Nightcrawler weren't playable in vanilla UA1 because they spent the rest of the game recovering from their trauma at the hands of Mefisto. Nightcrawler was only added in the DLC, which came with other continuity errors such as talking to Bruce Banner *as* the Hulk
Amazing games, my hope is if the old champion games and such continue to sell on Sony (idk about other consoles as Sony has been my choice since ps1) sell well I hope all of these are next I would buy them all if they were given real serious HD treatment.
Ultimate Alliance 1 was actually one of the first games I owned and it’s still one of my favorites today Also that Civil War comic book is a highlight reel of the comic book event
Raven was also taken off non-CoD games after Singularity didn’t sell & Raven became just a CoD content factory, so MUA 2 & 3 are by different developers. I think you should have said that in your intro to MUA 2.
I recently just got the digital collection of MUA 1-2 on PS5. I could’ve cried with the pure joy and nostalgia I felt playing MUA1 again after over 15 years. It brought back such good memories from my childhood.
I do like all 3 but they ALL have flaws! But if you include the first 2 legends i think the first legends is still the best cause legends 2 was also broken.
Absolutely love the first MUA game. It came with my original 360. The only thing that I didn't like was that the game didn't truly have a new game plus. Those pre rendered cutscenes still look great today. MUA2 was a step down but still a really good game, I think I've actually pumped more hours into it then the first one, mainly because I never played it until other was available on PS4. Never played the third one, but I'm currently going through the spiritual predecessor in Xmen Legends.
MUA 1 is my favorite too, and looking into the mods to add or switch out characters for it. For anyone who is new to Marvel Comics, MUA is definitely a great door because it takes the player all over the Major character story arcs in the Marvel Universe. If you are only familar with X-Men? Then get a bit of Fantastic Four, Avengers, when different levels facing different Marvel properties, definitely satisfying.
I think the main problem of all three games is that the enemy AI is not very good, which is why they all end up being mindless button smashers eventually. Halfway through it, the FAR SUPERIOR progression system in MU1 feels like a waste. With that in mind, I think MU3 is still the best one since it gives you the most fluid experience at that.
Last year I played the ultimate Ultimate Alliance in the form of modded MUA1 with every character ever released plus custom ones and shitton costumes, all with hd models. So you had me blasting through stages with Venom, Hulk, a custom Magneto and MegaMan fucking X. Shit was great Also haven't played the third one but man it looks rough, and I'm thinking maybe you got backlash on that video because kids are growing up with gachashit and thinking it's good? Hope it's not the case but eesh
I love this trilogy! Thanks for giving it done love Matty! I have 1 and 2 on ps3 and psp and ofc 3 on switch and I’m stoned for switch port of midnight suns - here’s hoping for a great port!

the first 2 games were what got me into marvel and eventually comics in general, i just bought a used copy of 2 for 360 again recently and been playing the hell out of it.
That doesn't really make sense
@@rainofkhandaq6678 How???
@@doctordoom1851 You'll have to give me some details on why you think they're bloated, then I can respond directly.
@@rainofkhandaq6678 The second story wise, and the third with it's characters. The 1st had a tighter story and an almost perfect cast. If you're looking for a long form debate about it imma have to pass on that dude. I was just sharing how I felt about it.
@@doctordoom1851 eh played the first one recently on ps5 and it was honestly ok not as good as when I was younger brought back mad nostalgia but tbh had more fun with 2 and 3 then the first one maybe if they update it
MUA 2 was my absolute favorite out of the trilogy.
MUA is one of my favorite series. I still play MUA3 and its my favorite switch game and I have hundreds of hours on it. Currently doing a Deadpool playthrough with Cable, Wolverine and Colossus. MUA 1 and 2 were fantastic too. Spent a lot of time playing them when I was younger.
MUA3 is the best game on the Nintendo switch. I wish the first 2 games were on the switch.
Elsa Bloodstone is in the new Disney+ Werewolf by Night special presentation. It’s pretty good!
One of my favorite games of all time, thank you for being around to cover it Matty
Must've been a sight to see.....
@@tmcttf8087 😂😂😂
@@ariadnamendoza7458 What?
Id love to see you look at Justice League Heroes. From 2006, it was a similar style to ultimate alliance
Absolutely worth it 100%. these are some of the best marvel games out there. along with X-Men Legends 1 and 2, can't be beat.
I played the heck out of 1 and 2 on the PSP. They were great on the go.
Justice League Heroes?
@@_cameroncarey_ Yep. By Snowblind who first brought us Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath, and Champions: Return to Arms. Great games. All of 'em.
24:49 You probably know this already, but Elsa Bloodstone finally made her mainstream debut in Werewolf by Night on Disney+. Now you have another rabbit hole to get excited about. lol
Thanks for sharing this video!
If another Marvel Ultimate Alliance game could have it's level of depth, it would sell so well
X-men legends and Ultimate Alliance are the best.
Played this game back to back as a kid 22 years later wondering where tf is the remake, and discovering it’s still underrated especially with all the marvel movies coming out every year
Love the content Matty. Will you do an Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction retrospective someday?
I always preferred ultimate alliance 2, but I still really enjoy the first game. The third game is good, but it has a different feel. Maybe it's nostalgia but the first 2 are special.
With the Insomniac leak, it pretty much confirms we wont see these again for a good few years as marvel isnt allowed to release a new title with Xmen characters without Insomniac.
Source: Marvels Insomniac Exclusivity Agreement
That's Lame. I like X men
So the leak that said these would be on gamepass this year was definitely fake?
@@trentjackson9793 Nah I doubt it, the leak says all back catalog that have Xmen is on hold with the contract, but anything could change
Sony has to meet Sales targets by end of 2024 tho and if they dont the contract voids past that point
My biggest regret is not buying the Remasters of 1 and 2 when they where available on ps4
Civil war is a company wide event from 2006
Always preferred the X-Men Legends games to the Ultimate Alliance series cause I always felt the presentation was better (series should have stayed cel shaded).
X-men legends is where it’s at!
a new X-men game is much needed right now
Those games can soft lock if you don't play the way it wants you to.
X-men Legend’s Is Also Heat🔥💯
I think it might just be a coincidence matty that it looks like it was a mobile game at one point to some that’s just the way they wanted to do the progression system maybe so you would spend more time grinding up the characters
When you get a greatest hits version the manual is usually black and white with most games
MUA 2 is the most underrated game of all time
The OG Ultimate Alliance will always be goated. I find myself replaying it every few years and this video just made me redownload it again
Mua 2 is my favorite game of all time, I loved the story so much it hooked me immediately as a kid and i’ve played it more times than I can count. Mua 3 was a little dissapointing with how much it differed from the two.
Mua3 wasn’t an mua game. It was an avengers game with an mua skin
Thanks for the vid matty, loved this classic
I miss when the X-Men were regularly in games.
25:21 the funny thing is that calling the MUA3 challenge rifts "Infinity Gauntlets" would have been a hilarious pun for a game mode considering...y'know...
I would love If you did a video about the X-Men legends games! X-Men legends 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games of that era.
Not sure why this narrative keeps getting pushed, but it's disingenuous to say that
Please cover X-men legends 1 and 2! They are similar to these games and are both super nostalgic for me.
Awesome video!
One question so if I buy the Gold Edition the DLC is not available on disk like the Special edition you have? I wanted to know before I spend over $100 on the Gold Edition.
Not sure why I'm just now discovering this channel, but your insight and in depth info on the game is awesome man
thanks for the content!
Endlessly grind>Replaying the game over and over.
I like the 3rd because of the dlc and my kids love to play it. But X-Men legends 2 is where it's at
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 is such a great game.
Ultimate Alliance 3 get much more tactical in the endgame as you could expected. But all 3 are great.
I want an X-men legends 3 in the Form of X-men vs Avengers with an Onslaught main villain
I never realized just how highly they hold this book
Jean and Nightcrawler weren't playable in vanilla UA1 because they spent the rest of the game recovering from their trauma at the hands of Mefisto. Nightcrawler was only added in the DLC, which came with other continuity errors such as talking to Bruce Banner *as* the Hulk
I enjoyed all 3 ultimate alliances for different reasons, but none surpass the fun and nostalgia that was x men legends and legends 2.
Amazing games, my hope is if the old champion games and such continue to sell on Sony (idk about other consoles as Sony has been my choice since ps1) sell well I hope all of these are next I would buy them all if they were given real serious HD treatment.
Ultimate Alliance 1 was actually one of the first games I owned and it’s still one of my favorites today
Also that Civil War comic book is a highlight reel of the comic book event
Raven was also taken off non-CoD games after Singularity didn’t sell & Raven became just a CoD content factory, so MUA 2 & 3 are by different developers. I think you should have said that in your intro to MUA 2.
I recently just got the digital collection of MUA 1-2 on PS5. I could’ve cried with the pure joy and nostalgia I felt playing MUA1 again after over 15 years. It brought back such good memories from my childhood.

Man love your videos and such a massive fan.
So glad I grabbed these before they were delisted lol.
I love your videos, I miss so much going to my friend's house after school so we can finish these games haha
God Matty the constancy of this channel is amazing so much love❤
Literally just found this channel and you have a sub from me. I very much enjoy that you actually play the games I did.
Last year I played the ultimate Ultimate Alliance in the form of modded MUA1 with every character ever released plus custom ones and shitton costumes, all with hd models. So you had me blasting through stages with Venom, Hulk, a custom Magneto and MegaMan fucking X. Shit was great
Also haven't played the third one but man it looks rough, and I'm thinking maybe you got backlash on that video because kids are growing up with gachashit and thinking it's good? Hope it's not the case but eesh
I love this trilogy! Thanks for giving it done love Matty! I have 1 and 2 on ps3 and psp and ofc 3 on switch and I’m stoned for switch port of midnight suns - here’s hoping for a great port!
That opening is directly from the comics
