They also got the cast from past marvel animated and game projects from Wolverine and the x men, spectacular Spider-Man, telltales guardians of the galaxy, Spider-Man 2017, ultimate Spider-Man, and so on so yeah this is S tier VA right here
I especially loved hearing PS4 Ock reprise his role as well. Hearing him gleefully chew into comic Ock's hammy and comically arrogant lines is such a trip, yet he's still a perfect fit for the role.
24:24 X-Men ‘97 came out today. Cyclops saves himself from falling using his optic blast. Saw that and remembered this video. Figured I’d give some insight in case that happened here as well
24:20 Contrary to popular belief, if this is based on the comics then Scott's eye beams are pure concussive force and aren't hot at all. He could probably use them to help break his own fall.
@@KneeGrowDoingKneeGrowThings I agree- your username is gross btw- I think anything that can stimulate particles enough to create a blast can create some kind of heat. Like a lightning bolt.
Winter Soldier, a guy with a metal arm runs out into the line of fire to body-shield Black Panther, a guy in a full, bulletproof suit, by deflecting the bullets with his said metal arm
🤣🤣🤡 I was thinking the same thing. You could tell the MCU-Avengers hype was used to help gloss over certain things we wouldn’t have forgiven in a pre-Disney Avengers world.
MUA1 has its own story MUA2 took inspiration from Civil War and Secret War (No not SECRET WARS) MUA3 took inspiration from both the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, Infinity storyline, and the MCU
Imagine if they did more free updates with Vision, Beast, Valkyrie, Nova, Black Bolt, Medusa, Jessica Jones, & Winter Soldier. It even works with the character select setup by just adding an additional column of 4 on each side.
Gotta admit. MUA3 has a much more diverse locations than MUA2 ever did. Especially having to play both Inhumans and Mutants in the same game is a rare sight to behold. Also most characters are thicc! I hope the success of this game on Switch opens to the possibility that they release on other platforms as well.
@@rosaria6363 Yeah, I'm not able to agree with the complaint about leaving the realistic graphics. I always thought it was a terrible direction for games based on comic book characters and one of the reasons I'm drawn away from the DC Cinematic Universe is because it takes itself too seriously. It's just an art style, but going with the colorful visuals and not trying to be too grounded was a good move. I always liked the first game for the latter, as well.
I miss grabs, and I really miss all the unique grapple attacks from MUA1, and I miss the combo specials from MUA2, but I still love this game...great roster, story, and customization! I can finally use Nightcrawler, Iceman, Gambit and Colossus in the same game!
@@belakthrillby better to grind for skins than buying them, and it’s RARE not to pay for cosmetics these days, so I’m ok with that. MUA3 is tons of fun😊
@belakthrillby there is a bit of grind, but that’s mainly for costumes and other bonuses, and likely if you’re trying to reach max level/go for harder difficulties. From what I remember, I was able to do the main story on normal (Mighty) without much grinding, maybe for xp cubes to catch some characters up.
Yes Marvel Nemesis Rise of the Imperfects retrospective! That was one of my favorite childhood games. One thing I like a lot about MUA3 Iron Fist is that the voice actor is the same voice actor for Nero in Devil May Cry 4 and 5, which is one of my favorite game series. Iron Fist was always on my team in MUA3 back when I played the game.
Really, you don’t know Johnny Yong Bosch? He’s like legit the number one ranked anime voice actor. Well, idk about now but he was literally ranked the number one voice actor in anime at one point. He’s voiced Ichigo in Bleach, Lelouch in Code Geass, Sasori in Naruto, Vash the Stampede in Trigun, and Johnathan Joestar in JoJo’s Bazaar Adventure just to name a few. He’s legit anime royalty.
The designs for some characters are very cool, mostly because they are a little of both worlds MCU and comics some are straight up MCU but ones like vision’s are very cool.
That's my BIGGEST GRIPE with Modern Marvel games today. They're trying TOO MUCH to look like the MCU! Even SPIDER-MAN's suit in this just looks like a combination of the Stark Suit from Homecoming and the Classic suit. Even the VILLIANS OF THIS GAME are so MCU-cliché
I legit love this art style. It gives all the Characters cohesion. It plays to the switch’s strengths and makes it feel like I’m playing with action figures.
I like it too but many other complaints from I guess the older generation would be its not manliness and dark enough. Like the previous two games I mean just look at some clips from the previous game. I don't understand why they like it so much but the tones are all subjective so it's fine. Personally,, I prefer MUA3 tone because it just looks nice than the others.
Steve Blum also voiced Green Goblin here (as he did in Spectacular Spider-Man), and they also got Doc Ock from the PS4/ps5 Spider-Man game. Edit: you probably already knew that lol
This game had an uphill battle from the start. Switch exclusive, being VERY inspired by the MCU (villains you face, character designs, Thanos as the ultimate villain, etc) despite that the previous two games focused more on the comics rather then the films, and a storyline that feels so disconnected from the previous games despite carrying the big number 3.
@@DarkScorpionPete98 Not as good as the previous 2 tbh, lack of costumes and a story that isn't as interesting and good as the other two, especially since it relies *HEAVILY* on the MCU.
also this game focuses just as much on the comics as the other two games the only really mcu thing here is the guardians of the galaxy who only really got popular after that. Thane, the fantastic fours design, and most of the night/dark characters are all comics based and most of the dlc was only comics stuff that had yet to appear in the dlc yet the rest is generic enough to be no different from the rest of the games
@@alwaysnerdyretros Finished watching the video now and I think it's the best you've done yet, I never noticed the sinister six thing in the raft level. And I want to ask if you would want synergies to return as they are or do you think they should be nerfed? Personally I think they shouldn't be such an important game mechanic.
@@bed3396 oh wow thank you! I appreciate the kind words! I agree with you about the synergies. They’re almost mandatory in most fights which can feel a bit restrictive. I’m sure that’s on purpose to incentivize teamwork, but I think nerfing could help since Solo abilities often feel too weak. So yeah, I’d like to see them return but rebalanced.
So I got a switch when this game was announced. I also bought the season pass, something I almost never do...that being said, I LOVE this game. It is so easy to just get in a groove and play for hours. So many characters that feel incredibly fun to play. Also my 6 year old son finds this game to be amazing! He has such a ball just jamming through levels and playing all his favorite heroes. Really hope they make a 4th as I'll be right there on release day.
Considering the game was "localised" twice, due to the Marvel team not speaking japanese and the japanese studio of Team Ninja needing to translate it as a story, make it into a game and then translate that script again to include this classic japanese cheesyness, this ends up closer to the various cartoons more than the movies and comics. Especially considering what the team chose, mostly by getting as many things visually and acoustically close to the 90s Marvelverse, evident mostly by the X-Men with Magneto being one line away from "X-MEN! WELCOME TO DIE", the voice cast from Wolverine and the X-Men along with Averngers EMH and other shuffles of voice cast from previous Marvel games that also reached foreign shores. Then you have the sneaky things Team Ninja put in the game, like some parts of the Ant-Man and Ultimo fight actually reference things like Ultraman Zero in its choreography. To put it simply, it's as if the american writters just gave a script and outline to japanese studio and the people who grew up with whatever Marvel thing they had in their youth, shoved it in, with a healthy dose of Japan in it.
This version of Spider-Man and Venom is interesting, as Spidey here is far more willing to team up with Venom and the Green Goblin unlike his grudge holding comicbook counterpart. (fun fact both Eddie and the symbiote forgave Peter and stopped wanting to kill him long before Peter would forgive them) Eddie and the symbiote are also acknowledged as the anti-heroes they are in the comics to the point of notably not wanting to fight the heroes in the boss fight but doing so anyway for their freedom and not eating Electro. This is extremely notable as Eddie does not actually eat people in the comics, he just uses the threat of doing so as a scare tactic, with the Scorpion being the first person to actually do so. With the exceptions of Venom threatening Spidey before teaming up without being provoked first and having animosity towards all spider themed heroes, (which is extremely off and weird especially for Miles) this is actually one of the most faithful renditions of the character, albeit their 90s characterization. All of these characters was at one point on one point or another on the Sinister Six, complete with Venom turning on the team the first chance they get, though never this specific list. (Venom's version did have Sandman, Mysterio and Electro though) The Infinity Sentinel is indeed a game exclusive. I however don't think it is a soft reboot or a continuation but instead a hard reboot. As nothing here really lines up with the world shown in MUA 1 and 2 and some aspects like Nick outright contradict it. I'm also not a fan of any the additional modes MUA3 has to offer (besides the story expansion) or a potential horde mode and much rather see a return of comic missions and hub worlds with unique character based dialogue. To be honest gameplay modes just for gameplay's sake without any story or character relevance don't appeal to me in the slightest. While it isn't a deal breaker and I do find MUA3 to be funner to play than MUA2, I don't like how synergy dependent the game is and I also miss the ability to go it alone like in MUA1. Venom also gameplay wise isn't really faithful to the comic version, nor does he have the healing factor trait for some reason but I can't really fault them too much for it as Venom would become a bruiser clone of Spidey in game that already has two similar spider people and unfaithful as it may be I still love the MvC moves. Despite my complaints I do agree this game doesn't get the praise it deserves and I actually think this game has the best art style out of the 3. I also agree this game's story did a good job. My rankings are, 1. MUA1 2. MUA3 3. MUA2
Thank you for the additional insight into venom from the comics! I’m a fan of the character but I haven’t read a lot of his stuff, so it’s interesting to hear how it compares to his game counterpart. Thanks for sharing! I agree that comic missions and hub worlds are an exclusion I miss too. Hopefully they return in a 4th game
@@alwaysnerdyretros Sorry for the late reply and you're welcome! If you ever get the time and money and want to get into Venom, I can recommend you a few TPBs and runs. For Eddie there is no better place to start than the Venom Lethal Protector TPB which has his first adventure as the title character and his canon backstory for Eddie. (the TPB Dark Origin is non canon and was made to tie into the horrible Spider-Man 3 version) If you instead want to hit the ground running Mike Costa's run (starting from #150 or the TPB Venom Vol. 2: The Land Before Crime is another good start as it captures the feel of Eddie's original run of miniseries after miniseries but with better, more consistent writing and more character development. The recent and soon to be ending run by Donny Cates is also mostly good, though he goes for a darker tone that is not usually typical for the character. This starts with the TPB Venom by Donny Cates Vol 1 Rex. A quick warning if you choose this route Marvel as far as I know does not have a easy to buy good collection for the Absolute Carnage event and some of the tie ins don't matter and are outright contradicted in the main event and Venom books. From what I remember the only tie ins that actually mattered was the Venom tie ins, the Scream one, (though more because that spins off to its own series) the Separation Anxiety one and the Lethal Protectors one. Some transnational TPBs for Eddie are Spider-Man New Ways to Die, which sees him return as Anti-Venom after getting rid of the Venom symbiote before Civil War (symbiote became evil after absorbing a evil clone) and marks the start of the direction he is in now for Modern Marvel. While Go Down Swinging has Peter FINALLY forgiving Eddie and the Venom symbiote and marks their transition to friends as seen in Absolute Carnage. Both were done by Dan Slott. Other Venom runs I recommend to get you started are where Flash was the host by Rick Remender and Cullen Bunn, both have really good collections if pricey. (Its Venom than insert the writer's name than collection)

I REALLY love this game! Honestly I was hyped at that reveal trailer cause seeing Ultimo, Green Goblin, the X-men and Sentinels made me think it was leaning much more towards the comics. And the new art style looked like it let them do really smooth and expressive animations that would've been much harder with a more realistic art style. And I think they absolutely NAILED the story! Seeing all the locations and characters was just awesome. And the dialogue is the kind of cheesy comic stuff that I absolutely live for! I just think the combat can get really overwhelming sometimes and some of the levels feel like they could've been designed better to be less frustrating (Hel in particular), but that could just be me.
@@Furkward i remember when the game first released i tought we would get monthly updates with new characters every month and winter soldier would come in one of these update
It was mostly because I was going so long on the story that I felt like I needed to trim certain parts. But yeah she doesn’t really contribute at all to that section lol
Never played UA3 but I was a huge fan of the other games when I was younger. This was a great watch to see how much the series has changed from what I remember
The time and effort you put in these videos is amazing. I grew up playing most if not all of the games you talk about and I love hearing someone talk about them the way I remembered them.
Omfg that Iron Fist cinematic was better than anything Netflix did with the character He’s also my fave character so I loved hearing u say he was yours too
I can't describe how good is this review in general, you actually show exactly what you liked and what could be better for us and devs to understand. Incredible job doing all of this
Yay, was really excited to see you do this! I just revisited MUA3 myself recently and my thoughts really changed on it. At first I was sort of mixed on it but on revisiting it, there’s a lot to like, though I still have some issues. I love the artstyle; it fits the marvel universe perfectly and makes the characters look more like themselves than the more gritty artstyle of the first 2 games. The combat is also more tactical than I originally gave it credit for and characters feel quite unique even though a lot of them have some similar skills; I liked that some had more aerial focus while others had more stagger focus. I also think it has the best roster and everyone looks phenomenal. My major issue is how grindy it is....I don’t play MUA for the side modes, I play it for the story and being able to switch between characters whenever I got to SHIELD point was so fun and allowed for more exploration. I can’t do that unless I exhaustively grind through the repetitive modes and that’s just not very fun. I also think the story was quite weak; I would prefer a longer story and I REALLY miss the hub worlds, those need to come back, especially with the unique character interactions. If those things were addressed in a fourth instalment and this roster returned, I would be a happy camper. It’s an enjoyable game overall and I think it’s even better upon revisiting it.
I think you make some great points that I wish i addressed in the video lol. Hub worlds are definitely an omission that I missed from the prior games. Mua3 is incredibly grindy and I think that’s the biggest complaint I see people mention. If you’re only there for the story, then I totally see your problem, since leveling is extremely slow if you’re not doing rifts/other modes.
I think my biggest complaint about UA3 is the lack of detail density compared to the first. Exploring home bases was so fun in UA 1. You had the quiz mini games, conversations with minor supporting characters, and all sorts of Easter eggs. And the ISO-8 system, while mostly troubled with tedium, also has the issue of being bland compared to the collectible equip items you'd get in the old games. Aside from being more user friendly to sort through, the collectible items were fun to find. You'd get a bionic arm from beating the Winter Soldier, go to Asgard to forge Asgard armor, beat Loki and get trolled with "Loki's Gift". ISO-8 is so uninteresting, aesthetically.
@@imsmart799 You're talking graphics, I'm talking content. The switch can absolutely give us as much activities as a game that came out on the ps2 in 2006

Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2 will always hold a special place in my heart, as some of the earliest games I played as a kid. They will still have a distinction from UA3 to me, but now I will give UA3 a chance.
Honestly the fact that this was switch exclusive is pretty much why it wasn't as big as it could have been. Really hoping the next ultimate alliance game isn't an exclusive.

Great retrospective Nerdy! I just became a big marvel fan when this game got announced, I had seen all the movies and even started collecting some comics and diving into marvel history, I also had a Switch and played it regularly. It always felt like this game was tailored just for me because I am a big Nintendo and Marvel fan and my favorite kind of games are those with warriors style gameplay like this one, you can see Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo's hand in MUA3. I love the game's story, voice acting, combat, reference to comics and music (PLEASE for the love of god SOMEBODY rip the music files for the DLC songs, I would love to hear them outside the game). Although I always feel like there's much room for improvement. The impossible task of completion and the grinding nature of this game make it sometimes very painful but I think there's enough content for it to always be enjoyable. The multiplayer is great if you have a brother or a friend that is willing to join you. I wish more people would still play online, but having someone on Discord to ask makes it much easier. In the end I love this game and I have poured hundreds of hours into it, I believe it's my second most played games after Smash Bros. Ultimate. If you are a fan of Marvel, or want to get more into it, DEFINITELY get this game and the DLC if you haven't (it's worth it) As you can see at 1:08:37 I won't miss a chance if there's someone to play with and I would love for more and more people to fall in love with the game as much as I did. Thank you so much for making this video and for all the points you made in it. And if you read through all of this, thank you for listening to my story, I would love to hear yours.
If you talk to storm after this cutscene I believe she says something along the lines of “although T’Challa and I are no longer together, I always come to Wakanda’s defense in times of need”. I don’t remember exactly but she gives some kind of explanation of why she’s there
at least she’s not woke because woke marvels wanted censor every female hot characters as a bland boyish unattractive clothes as possible but in reality we have rule34
This game really feels like a callback to the late 2000s era of Marvel animation. The tone, art style, and voice cast are all drawing fairly heavily from Avengers: EMH and Wolverine and the X-Men.
I also bought my Switch expressly to get this game. I love the game and having a Switch ALSO allowed me to buy Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. One of the best games I’ve ever played.
After a decade of waiting, we finally got the third installment of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series. Although the first two games take place in the same universe, the third game actually takes place in a different continuity.
I understand that synergies were probably a big reason behind why each character was limited to four skills, but I miss the freedom you were given as a player to experiment with different skills and builds in the older games. I just wish they had more RPG elements like MUA and the XML games with the stats and gear system, too. Maybe the could have "loadouts" that affect gameplay like how MUA1's costumes did, but letting you choose the stats separately from the visuals (I hated having good stats on a costume I didn't really like) Heck, they could re-work the ISO-8s to do those things in a bigger way and not just in a single-digit stat boost. Maybe have character-specific ISO-8s that give added effects to certain skills, like how ISO-8s worked in Avengers Alliance, the old facebook RPG. I enjoyed playing MUA3, too, but I guess I just really want MUA1 gameplay with MUA3 visuals
Real solid review here. I feel pretty strongly in agreement with a lot of what you say here, and I'm hoping they can follow up with improvements to the combat and ISO-8 management. Of course, I'm also hoping we get an Ultimate Alliance 4 at all.
Thank you! Yeah hopefully an mua4 is on the way. I’m hoping for a reveal around 2022-2023, but we’ll see what happens. I’d love to see the franchise continue to grow and evolve
It's sad to say, but when I play this game, I try to pretend that this is a continuation of EMH. It's so refreshing to hear the OG cast for at least the main four Avengers again. They should have been in Marvel's Avengers as well, but that game is a real dumpster fire.
@@FoxsDumbSeriesMaker I suppose MUA3 could work as a continuation of EMH. 👍🏻 Both have most of the same characters plus Doctor Doom is alive in EMH so it wouldn’t contradict his absence in MUA2
I really enjoyed this game for what it is, but if they ever make a sequel, I hope they tone down the MCU designs by a few notches. It's kind of jarring to see Cap, Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Black Panther and others look so much like their MCU counterparts, but then characters such as Klaw, Scarlet Witch, Loki, Ultron, etc. look much more like their comic book designs. Same goes for the different levels. The X Mansion was so much more enjoyable compared to say Wakanda. It's all a weird mix mash, and as much as I like the MCU movies and recent shows, I would rather that aesthetic stay out of other Marvel media. So much MCU inspiration is half the reason why cartoons like Avengers: Assemble are so bland and unoriginal. I really don't want Ultimate Alliance to follow that same path in the future.
This becomes a very big issue especially for lesser know characters that are getting a big revamp like blade and Ms marvel, i CANNOT see Ms marvel working with her MCU counterpart i mean they domt even have the same powers! (I'm sad that moving forward we are probably getting MCU Ms marvel with energy blasts and not stretchy Ms marvel)
@@windedwriterfilms8321 Agreed. I loved how comic book based the first Ultimate Alliance was. Every time I get a new costume in Ultimate Alliance 3 I immediately use it if their original look was based on the MCU. Iron Man for example. I would much rather play as his extremis suit look. I really hope Marvel get out of this "phase" someday and realizes that not everything has to be based on the MCU to make money. There's a reason fans prefer the older cartoons and games way back when. They were so much more original and actually made me want to check out the comics that inspired them, very much like you said.
I literally just started playing this game again. this game was pretty awesome although a little short. but the variety of characters is fantastic. my biggest flaw for the game is how hard it is to get alternate costumes, like why was it so hard to get all the good costumes?
Idk? Maybe since there’s so few, they wanted you to work hard for them? The shield depot isn’t too bad, but I guess that means you’ve gotta play a lot of gauntlets :/
Sad, but I just hope it follows the original continuity instead of this reboot's continuity. Like how they did with Devil May Cry, the 5th Devil May Cry game (DmC: Devil May Cry)'s continuity only stayed in that game and they brought back the original continuity in Devil May Cry: 5.
@@theonlyethanhiroshikiI feel like it’d be a waste to do that especially when this game ended on a cliffhanger while MUA2 to my knowledge didn’t have any cliffhanger so I kinda disagree with that idea
Man, this video was such a cool experience. I had no clue Team Ninja had done a Marvel: Ultimate Alliance game, and as a huge fan of Ninja Gaiden and Nioh, it does not surprise me in the slightest that the gameplay in this one is very flashy and super fun. Team Ninja did stumble a bit after Tomonobu Itagaki left the company after Ninja Gaiden 2, without him Ninja Gaiden 3 turned out awful, but after listwning to the fans' complaints they came out with Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge in 8 months time (which is incredible by the way), which addressed tons of mistakes in the game and it's now almost as good as the rest of the Ninja Gaiden games. They do seem to have found their footing recently with the Nioh franchise, and as someone who has also poured 400+ hours in the first Nioh, It's kinda normal to hear that you've also poured as much time in M:UA3, Team Ninja does have a way of making insanely replayable games and they seem to be on fire with one banger after another lately. I'm sure another M:UA is in development, their team is a workhorse in terms of output, they put out one quality game after another, it's insane really. Ok sorry for rambling, I just wanted to say that I'm glad I stumpled opun you channel and that this video was very very cool for me to watch. Can't wait to check out everything from you channel.
Nothing against the story writers, I know why they chose the infinity stone, I just think they are a lazy plot. It’s easy to just place them wherever you need want to go to make the background there. Every level felt inconsequential to the whole plot besides the first and last one, like they all could take place anywhere. I also feel like they could have done a little more to make the worlds and characters feel less hollow, like for instance having special quotes for synergies. My main team had both gwen and miles and it always felt weird that they were introduced together but never acknowledged each other. I think specific characters should get special dialogues and then maybe just dialogues they have based on what teams the other characters are from so it’s easier to program, like giving a generic phrase every time someone synergies with an x men or an avenger
Theory/dream blunt rotation: MUA4 will focus on the multiverse converging and we’ll see versions of characters from all 3 games fighting the cosmic big bad. Could be in line with Battleworld/ Secret Wars, but more along the lines of DC’s Crisis events.
Now that you mention it I can also see the Spiderverse storyline being in the game as a chapter or two. Showcasing even more Spider heroes (playable, costume, or NPC) interacting with other Marvel heroes. Man that’d be fun.
Or, this game is a prequel to Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, and in the end, it was the two realities converging. Just think about for a second, mate. Ultron already having 2 stones in his possession in MUA3, same design and everything, and infinite stones fresh in everyone's minds. Similar artstyle, similar villains, and to top it all off, the 3rd game doesn't even take place in the same bleed'n reality as the first two. I know it sounds stupid, but that's Marvel for you. Also, screw this game.
@@thelivingshado5 I mean if you define adolescent to having vibrant colors and stylized models then I guess. And I can't speak to the combat cus I don't own it
I think is game is great. Almost perfect and so so much fun. My biggest gripe with it honestly was that there was no EXP sharing so that the characters you weren’t using weren’t too under-leveled for later parts of the game. I know the level up cubes were meant to somewhat mitigate this issue but that should mostly be optional where at times it seems mandatory.
Or even at a slightly reduced rate, if they still want to encourage cubes, so the reserve characters would still get some exp and level up, but wouldn’t quite be at the same level. But I’d rather they not get reduced exp so they can more easily be swapped in and out

I've never really been interested in this series if games but this MA3 did get me interested. I love the art style, and honestly love how lively. It might just be because I'm kinda tired of realistic look
The realistic look in MUA 1 was 1000x better than this game, and probably 50x better than MUA 2. They need to make a game based completely on the comics, not the MCU, not an animated cartoon, not the new comic books, not any spin offs. Should be based on the comics and the storylines that the amazing stan lee thought up and created with the help of others in the 60’s-80’s. Even the mcu has messed up plenty
I needed this didn't like how tiny the characters have got when you zoom out was the main reason I didn't get it. Your video just randomly popped in my UA-cam list. Just picked up Arkham trilogy a week ago.
kinda sad that they picked developers who have only made tomb raider games for the past decade, someone like platinum games could have made it into something awesome..
I had absolutely *none* of these fears prior to release. The art style looked fantastic to me and I wasn't expecting a movie tie-in. I was expecting a Marvel Ultimate Alliance sequel that used a lot of the elements from the MCU to draw in new fans. I was fine with this, as the infinite stones are a fun concept to play with and really raised the stakes of the previous two games. My one reservation about MUA3 and something that still kinda bothers me is how they changed key characters from previous games like Nick Fury, as well as designing other characters too heavily around the movie versions. I don't mind the latter too much, but Nick Fury was an important character in the first game, at least, and that was my first experience with the character as I'm not a comic fan and was never big on Marvel besides Spider-Man growing up until Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 (and the Spider-Man games, of course). It isn't a huge deal, I understand why they did it, but I don't think they even offer a way to change to the old Nick Fury, which annoyed me. If you're gonna make a sequel, the least you can do is be consistent for long-time fans who are going to fuel a large amount of sales for these games, if not the majority. It doesn't feel nice to be pushed to the side to cater to newcomers who are ignorant to the characters and the previous games. That being said, I still really liked this game's art direction. It's vivid, feels like it's right out of a comic book, and has a *ton* of fan-favorite characters to play as. And another minor complaint, I wish if they were going in the movie direction, they had tried to match the power-effects of Captain Marvel from the films, which are much more vibrant and colorful than the constant, I believe, yellow colored powers in this game. 3:33 Speaking of tie-in games, Iron Man was a fun game. I'm sure if I replayed it I would complain a lot, I remember issues even back then, but seriously... it was a fun game. I would not call it "poorly executed" in the least. The exclusivity didn't bother me, but I understand if people were upset about that. Exclusivity sucks and there's just no good reason for it to exist, at least for third-party games, and even with first-party titles it feels more like a childish "you can't play with my toys unless you play by my rules" kind of thing that console publishers do to force you onto a console you may otherwise not give a shit about. The Switch does a better job of justifying its existence than most consoles by differing and offering portability, but it's still petty, in my eyes, to withhold games to force consumers to either buy your system or just not give a shit and move on. 51:30 Yeah that sequence is fucking broken. They did a poor job of it and it was my one criticism about the gameplay. Not too bad that it only winds up having major issues in the DLC (and the bonus content, but I don't care about those modes as much), but still something that should have been fixed but never was.
I was glad it came back, and I enjoyed it. But relative to what what else is currently available at the time of release, 3 is overall less impressive than the original when it was released. I think the change to a Japanese developer gave it a nicer visual flair in looks and combat, but really made it suffer in the RPG department. I like RPGs, and I think WRPGs excel at dialogue choices and more open exploration, so that loss was a bit of a disappointment to me. 3 feels like a more straight ahead action game with some token XP and equipment to pass the bare minimum of some RPG elements. I think the budget was also probably not through the roof. Marvel have probably gotten used to the profit margins of F2P phone games in recent years, and in that sense, I think they were not exactly the ones pushing for a big MUA console release, no matter what they say. After I got over that though, I really enjoyed it as a whistle-stop tour of Marvels locations and characters. I was pleasantly surprised it was not some microtransactioned live service game too. I also liked how it brought back the X-men, who were sort of being snubbed in gaming for several years and I liked how it was not a straight up MCU licensed game. If you told me another developer was going to make a MUA game around the time of Endgame being in cinemas, I would have absolutely bet on it being a direct tie in game. Instead I was again pleasantly surprised to see it more heavily drawing on the 2013 Infinity run, with many characters being a kind of greatest hits pastiche of some of their biggest moments. Even at a time when the Marvel marketing machine would probably want people to be very familiar with how MCU Falcon and Scarlett Witch ect look going forward with the next phases of their movie and TV stuff, they have comic book outfits. I basically got a switch for this game, and I wouldn't say I regret it. That is helped by other games I have found since on the platform, but I ended up enjoying this game and put in way more hours than I did even with the original game, which is strange considering I feel like I think the first one was a better game. The exclusivity didn't bother me, if a platform gets games you want to play, then it becomes more worth buying, thats life. I think its been rumored Sony and MS turned down the series several times over the years, so nintendo was the last choice who were willing to meet their demands, but it happened. Overall, I think the launch and flop of the new Avengers game made me look back and appreciate this much more. In modern gaming there are so many more pitfalls to avoid. I think this was a solid game against a lot of odds, but I don't know that I want a 4 from the same developer, unless they really get the budget and scope to put out something a little more ambitious. I was a big fan of Marvel Heroes, I think a game that combines the best of new MUA, old MUA, and Marvel heroes would be my dream game.
Great write up! I haven’t seen the rumors on Sony and Microsoft passing on the franchise, but if that’s true, it makes me appreciate Nintendo picking it up even more. I also agree that Avengers struggling at release made me appreciate MUA3 more. I thought Avengers would easily surpass it, but it’s not that clear-cut. Although with time I imagine it will. Thank you for sharing your thought! It was interesting reading a different perspective
Ya know. For a game that was at first lambasted for its different art style. I see images of this games versions of the characters whenever someone’s trying to start a conversation about a certain character in a video essay or short. Despite it clearly trying to replicate the MCU’s aesthetic. I’d argue these have become the definitive looks for these characters.
I didn't think MUA3 was a movie tie in, but I did notice how every Marvel game either during Infinity Wars or Post Infinity Wars. A lot of the characters were chosen from the cast or modeled after the movie counterparts like in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite and I was feeling the MCU burnout hard.

I have such fond memories of each game because of the communities or groups of friend I was part of when they dropped. But my most favorite is the memories I have tied with the drop of MUA3 and the discord so I am SUPER biased to it. The game itself is an overall improvement from the first 2, and you hit all those points perfectly in your video. I do wish we had solo story missions return, like the first game though. This game had an uphill battle from the start.
Which is kinda funny considering the Art style has a bit of a Fortnite and Anime look.
@@forickgrimaldus8301 Perhaps even a dash of Overwatch as well.

I'd argue with a slight dash of "Disney Infinity". Now isn't that a throwback?
(Venom's version did have Sandman, Mysterio and Electro though)
The Infinity Sentinel is indeed a game exclusive.
My rankings are,
1. MUA1
2. MUA3
3. MUA2
Thank you for the additional insight into venom from the comics! I’m a fan of the character but I haven’t read a lot of his stuff, so it’s interesting to hear how it compares to his game counterpart. Sorry for the late reply and you're welcome! If you ever get the time and money and want to get into Venom, I can recommend you a few TPBs and runs.
For Eddie there is no better place to start than the Venom Lethal Protector TPB which has his first adventure as the title character and his canon backstory for Eddie. (the TPB Dark Origin is non canon and was made to tie into the horrible Spider-Man 3 version)
If you instead want to hit the ground running Mike Costa's run (starting from #150 or the TPB Venom Vol.

ISO-8 is so uninteresting, aesthetically.
the game is on switch, what you expect levels of detail like the ps4 or xbox or something???

Ultimate. If you are a fan of Marvel, or want to get more into it, DEFINITELY get this game and the DLC if you haven't (it's worth it)
As you can see at 1:08:37 I won't miss a chance if there's someone to play with and I would love for more and more people to fall in love with the game as much as I did.
Thank you so much for making this video and for all the points you made in it. And if you read through all of this, thank you for listening to my story, I would love to hear yours.
Thank you! Yeah it’s much more fun online with others but enjoyable overall. Really wish it had a more consistent player base.

This game really feels like a callback to the late 2000s era of Marvel animation. The tone, art style, and voice cast are all drawing fairly heavily from Avengers: EMH and Wolverine and the X-Men.

After a decade of waiting, we finally got the third installment of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series. Although the first two games take place in the same universe, the third game actually takes place in a different continuity.
Thank you for making these videos, I just relived my childhood and a good part of adulthood. Great job on everything
I understand that synergies were probably a big reason behind why each character was limited to four skills, but I miss the freedom you were given as a player to experiment with different skills and builds in the older games.
I just wish they had more RPG elements like MUA and the XML games with the stats and gear system, too.
Maybe the could have "loadouts" that affect gameplay like how MUA1's costumes did, but letting you choose the stats separately from the visuals (I hated having good stats on a costume I didn't really like)
Heck, they could re-work the ISO-8s to do those things in a bigger way and not just in a single-digit stat boost.
I’d love to see the franchise continue to grow and evolve
midnight sons got ravealed so it might be 4 instead
59:59 It’s ironic & disappointing that the EMH voice actors can be reunited for MUA3 but they are yet to be reunited for EMH season 3
That’s the disappointing part lol.
With the MCU and after EMH, Marvel really doesn’t need cartoons anymore to sell their products.
Both have most of the same characters plus Doctor Doom is alive in EMH so it wouldn’t contradict his absence in MUA2
@@C.Johnson9714 That's really cool to know. It would be awesome to have this as an official continuation, or at least interpret it as such.
@@Juanmaligno Oh, they're not giving her the stretchy arms? Isn't that the whole point of her powers, though? 0_o
@@FoxsDumbSeriesMaker they are he’s confused ms.marvel with captain marvel

I literally just started playing this game again. this game was pretty awesome although a little short. but the variety of characters is fantastic. my biggest flaw for the game is how hard it is to get alternate costumes, like why was it so hard to get all the good costumes?
Idk? Maybe since there’s so few, they wanted you to work hard for them? The shield depot isn’t too bad, but I guess that means you’ve gotta play a lot of gauntlets :/
I feel the roster from the Spider-man series are too similar.
Person from two years in the future here, still no word on Ultimate Alliance 4
Sad, but I just hope it follows the original continuity instead of this reboot's continuity. Like how they did with Devil May Cry, the 5th Devil May Cry game (DmC: Devil May Cry)'s continuity only stayed in that game and they brought back the original continuity in Devil May Cry: 5.

I love the fact that Scarlet Witch just teleports us to the freaking Dark Dimension.

Your video has sparked my interest in playing MUA3 again after my data got deleted a couple years ago. Great video :)

Did you play it?
Eh, some of those character designs needed to go back to the drawing board.
