Just a massive number of horrendous picks in this draft (and not Prince Fielder funny horrendous, simply "you were actually trying and failed miserably" horrendous).
Jolly picking fucking Billy Hamilton for the Reds and not Joe Morgan or Barry Larkin was incredibly painful. You can't steal bases if you never make it to first!
At least Honus Wagner played after 1898. Before then, you could get a stolen base if you went from first to third or second to home on a single, or two for going from first to home on a double. That’s why a lot of older teams have a bunch of pre-1898 players at or near the top of their all-time stolen bases list.
The recency bias of not knowing that Lou Brock is 2nd all-time in steals, and that the vast majority of his career was with a single team, is insane. "Yeah, uuuuuuuh, lemme take Billy Hamilton." Christ.
I can understand the recency bias if you legit can't think of any as time goes on, but the 2nd pick? Like come on man, know some little history here and there 😂
One "funny" choice that actually would have beaten a lot of your outfield picks, is Tony Gwynn. 319 SB, 1st all-time for the Padres. In fact, from 1993-1997, after his young speedster days were over, and he looked like we all remember him, he stole 59 bases at an 80% success rate! In that 5 year span, he stole more bases than 7 of your picks this draft.
@@kevinhinkle7632 Funnily enough, they allowed Ripken at third, he should have asked to have Biggio as a catcher. That was his first position in the bigs, and his speed was why he got moved to 2nd base.
At least Wagner's the #2 Pirate of all time for SBs and the all-time Stolen-Base leader at short-stop. Jason Kendall only stole 140 bags as a Pirate, which is the most of a catcher in the live ball era but isn't actually much of an advantage.
Crazy that Henderson is almost the career stolen base leader for two different teams. Jeter ended up on top for the Yankees, besting Rickey's five-year total by a few dozen. Just shows what happens when a generational athlete meets a freakish period for a stat.
I liked Lucas's idea of only doing names from the expansion era, once you allow the old guys there's not a whole lot of reason to pick players from recent history.
Fun fact. Vince Coleman was the last person to steal 100 bags in a season in 1987 with 109 swipes. But he stole 107 and 110 in the two season before that. 100 stolen bases in a season has only happen 8 times since integration.
I don't know how the rules works, but it seems drafting Biggio as a catcher would give you a huge edge over taking him as a second baseman. Plus, it opens the door to take people like Eddie Collins or Joe Morgan at 2B.
I decided to check for myself, and here's what I got C: King Kelly (ATL) - 238 1B: Frank Chance (CHC) - 402 2B: Bid McPhee (CIN) - 568 3B: Paul Molitor (MIL) - 412 SS: Honus Wagner (PIT) - 639 OF: Rickey Henderson (OAK) - 867 OF: Lou Brock (STL) - 888 OF: Ty Cobb (DET) - 869 DH: Tim Raines (WSN) - 635 If my math is right, this comes out to 5518 stolen bases.
How do you let Shelfy get Rickey AND Lou Brock? I'm at the Chone Figgins pick, and this draft is already over. But I gotta stick around for the kooky answers.
If and when you do come back for more compiler team drafts, I think having a 5 starter, 2 reliever rotation with single season wins + saves would be fun. I also think Runs scored and RBI could be fun. Could also try drafting 'bad' teams. All Star pitchers with the most losses, All Star batters with the most strikeouts, etc.
Ty Cobb ignored again...And he was not a horrible person not saying he was an angel but almost all the things that were "reported" on him and in that book and movie have been disproved.
Bo Jackson would've been my Royals pick. Trout with the Angels? I don't know if he was a runner, though. Ohtani, perhaps? A good draft would be "Most home runs in their home stadium". Any era, all time. Can we make that happen?
I've got an idea for another one of these episodes, but with a twist; Who can select the WORST starting lineup? Basically, choose whatever stat to focus on (home runs, steals, ERA, etc.), but only players with "X" amount of starts or AB's in the chosen season. I feel like it would make for a great series of episodes!
Since Shelfy was picking guys who didn’t steal anyway at the end. Would have been funny if he picked Grienke as his DH for the Dodgers since they were still available.
The way I was yelling ty Cobb and he takes Prince fielder 😭
the first answer in my head... i am 4 minutes into the video and shocked by some of these answers haha
I thought for a second they were only allowed to pick guys during the expansion era.
But yeah, they just didnt think of deadball era guys.
To think if he picked Ty Cobb he could have been 1,440 stolen bases ahead of Jolly!
I can’t believe Jake and jolly let Lou Brock fall back to Shelfy
well i mean its a stolen base draft, you gotta go Griffey #2!
I feel like Jake misheard what the category was and didn't want to admit it lol
In fairness I thought of Vince Coleman with the Cardinals before Lou Brock
Coleman would have been much better, 400+ more SB than Griffey and takes Brock off the board for others
@@floydfanTN nope brock all the way
Not going ichiro on the mariners is crazy
I was just going to say that

A@@nossonkamins7708
I can’t believe they didn’t pick [best pick] on [franchise]! Bums!!
Shelfy using his "MLB the Show" knowledge...
😈😈😈
I'd be curious to see the retention stats on this video to see how many people just shut it off after Shelfy got Lou Brock.
No Tim Raines from the Expos??? Arrrrggggh!!!! I guess no one wanted 635 stolen bases.
No they wanted 2 SB prince fielder
i was screaming tim raines at my phone the whole video!
Jolly picking fucking Billy Hamilton for the Reds and not Joe Morgan or Barry Larkin was incredibly painful. You can't steal bases if you never make it to first!
I think we all shared in Lucas’ frustrations this video lol
ngl it was real tough to keep watching after that Griffey pick
I stole ONE base playing youth baseball. It's a commendation that I'm almost good enough for Shelfy to take me in an all-time draft.
At least Honus Wagner played after 1898. Before then, you could get a stolen base if you went from first to third or second to home on a single, or two for going from first to home on a double. That’s why a lot of older teams have a bunch of pre-1898 players at or near the top of their all-time stolen bases list.
Didn’t even know that
This draft was absolute pain if you care at all about SB's.
They shoulda gotten Foolish and hell maybe even Lucas to play.
The recency bias of not knowing that Lou Brock is 2nd all-time in steals, and that the vast majority of his career was with a single team, is insane. "Yeah, uuuuuuuh, lemme take Billy Hamilton." Christ.
For some reason I feel like these guys don't know Cardinals that much. It's sad
Didn't even pick the the right billy hamilton
I was a little surprised at the recency bias. Somebody hasn't been pouring over their grandfather's Baseball Almanacs.
I can understand the recency bias if you legit can't think of any as time goes on, but the 2nd pick? Like come on man, know some little history here and there 😂
Vince Coleman would've been better than Hamilton.

not even a host mention of Maury Wills is slanderous
490 for the dodgers
Since Jake had to ask if Roy was a Dodger, can we really expect them to know Wills? Sad
I was screaming JASON KENDALL for catchers when he was on the pirates lol
No one takin Tim Raines with the Expos is just sad
I was screaming his name at my tv.
Raines and Vince Coleman… been screaming those names
@canihaveonemore11 Coleman's damage was mostly with the Cards, so Brock was a better choice than him.
Yeah, missing out on the Rock was wild.
They missed a lot...Willie Wilson.....Ty Cobb....Ichiro
Y’all make me feel better about myself and my ball knowledge thank you
Lou brock not being the 2nd pick minimum is insane
I'm so sad no one picked Jeff Bagwell and his 202 stolen bases as a first baseman.
Or Jason Kendall catcher for the pirates, 140.
@@bgdg323honus wagner was taken off the board pretty quickly for the pirates unfortunately
Biggio was gone pretty quickly
@@kevinhinkle7632 Funnily enough, they allowed Ripken at third, he should have asked to have Biggio as a catcher. That was his first position in the bigs, and his speed was why he got moved to 2nd base.
Yeah he could steal a bag well. 😬
Would have gone Jason Kendall with Pittsburgh to get the huge catcher advantage
I was so mad about that. He was such an obvious choice.
Kendall was the first name i thought of. But Shelfy took Wagner early and that took the Pirates off the board...
At least Wagner's the #2 Pirate of all time for SBs and the all-time Stolen-Base leader at short-stop. Jason Kendall only stole 140 bags as a Pirate, which is the most of a catcher in the live ball era but isn't actually much of an advantage.
I would have started a big argument about whether Craig Biggio could count as the Catcher.
Willie Wilson for the Royals
If no one picks Lou Brock for the Cardinals I’m going to lose my mind
You guys dropped the ball in the first round. Geez! Brutal!
Said ty cobb off the rip
Cobb, Brock, Wills...
This was a crazy one for sure, it's incredible that in a stolen base draft, Ty Cobb, Tim Raines and Willie Wilson didn't get picked.
Yadier Molina had more stolen bases than Cal Ripken Jr. Would make a hell of a trivia question.
Shiiiiiiiiiiit, last one for a bit eh? Dang.
I’m sure whatever content they decide to make in the meantime will still be good
@@austinfrandsen6537 True but I also love this series haha
i love the series, theres just not a whole lotta subjects left. But I think they should do the same topics, but cant use anyone already picked before
@@Bobman32x That would be interesting
Last all time. May be going divisional and thus per year.
This was the best of these videos. The chaos is always welcome.
Tim Raines... that one bugged me
That moment where Shelfy forgets what a DH is. What an NL guy.
Not gonna lie.. the All-time drafts you do, might be the best content (it’s up there) keep doing them
Junior, #2? How is Lou Brock not #1? Or 2 at worst? He made it back to Shelfie? Bro...
Yeah we been asking because all these videos are fun no matter what. OBP% draft, walks draft, rbi draft etc….
This was such a dumb idea and I'm here for it
Holds draft when?
Should of ended the video after shelfy got lou brock w the 6 pick 😂
This is exactly why I was clamoring for the SB draft this whole time, I thought it would be a riot...wasn't disappointed.
5 min in and its over!! HAHA baseball before 1990 didn't exist for Jolly 😂
Perfect cast for a video right here. This crew is legit
Yo Jolly what you doing there with that marker?? - @14:45
Crazy that Henderson is almost the career stolen base leader for two different teams. Jeter ended up on top for the Yankees, besting Rickey's five-year total by a few dozen. Just shows what happens when a generational athlete meets a freakish period for a stat.
Tim Raines over here sitting in his Expos jersey wondering when he's getting picked...
Shelfy's top three plus Plouffe ties Jake's entire lineup.
I liked Lucas's idea of only doing names from the expansion era, once you allow the old guys there's not a whole lot of reason to pick players from recent history.
good thing for them is that they cant even think of the old guys pre expansion. I mean Prince Fielder for the Tigers is just wow.
Well, a lot of times these guys have a very recency bias brain. Don't think it might matter that much 😂
Hank Aaron is routingly forgotten so not an issue. They pretty much always lean more recent.
Maybe we could get a coaches/managers draft going. Loving the videos fellas!
Shelfy banking on Jake and Jolly not taking Brock was a tidy piece of work.
no vince coleman or tim rock raines is criminal.
Lou Brock is a better Cardinals option and once he is picked, Coleman isn't available. But yeah, no one picking Tim Raines is nuts.
@@SwAeromotion i mean, no one was catching shelfy this video, you could take coleman and he still would have won.
Fun fact, Vince Coleman was a kicker in college (FAMU) and once kicked a game-winning FG against Miami (FL).
Woah, Jake saying Joey Gathright, that is a throwback!

Catcher is so tough.
Yadi. 19 seasons one team. 71 bags haha.
should do a "lowest ERA" draft. Would just need to have a cutoff for games or seasons played to qualify
Crazy how Willie mays went so late
And Jake is even reluctant to pick him.
Fun way Shelfy could've stunted is spending his DH on Max Scherzer with the Nats (3 stolen bases, one more than Prince)
lineup with the LEAST amount of stolen bases would also be a banger i feel like
Thinking Billy Hamilton had 400 more stolen bases after leaving the reds is hilarious
You can hear the pain in Lucas’s voice
Shelfy has definitely seen a career stolen base list with "Billy Hamilton" near the top, not knowing its a completely different guy
What about doing a Gold Glove draft? Or a walks draft? Those might be fun for hilarity purposes. Or a doubles draft.
I don't know how the rules works, but it seems drafting Biggio as a catcher would give you a huge edge over taking him as a second baseman. Plus, it opens the door to take people like Eddie Collins or Joe Morgan at 2B.
You can only slot in a player at a position if they played enough games there. IIRC, the threshold they usually go with is 25%.
I was thinking this but in games where Biggio played a defensive position only 15.5% were as catcher.
You guys spoiling Ty Cobb AND Tim The Rock Raines makes me win that game alone in my office.
shelfy went bananas my lord
catcher - Kendall Pirates. Raines or Dawson for Expos. Maury Wills Dodgers.
Ivan Rodriguez with the Rangers will be around 80 i guess too
Yeah but once Wagner was picked, the Pirates were done.
The whole video in my head I kept saying Maury Wills
Yall should do innings pitched! Chad Innings Eater competition
wheres the best possible lineup card?
It would have Willie Mays Hays on it.
I decided to check for myself, and here's what I got
C: King Kelly (ATL) - 238
1B: Frank Chance (CHC) - 402
2B: Bid McPhee (CIN) - 568
3B: Paul Molitor (MIL) - 412
SS: Honus Wagner (PIT) - 639
OF: Rickey Henderson (OAK) - 867
OF: Lou Brock (STL) - 888
OF: Ty Cobb (DET) - 869
DH: Tim Raines (WSN) - 635

How do you let Shelfy get Rickey AND Lou Brock? I'm at the Chone Figgins pick, and this draft is already over. But I gotta stick around for the kooky answers.

Screaming Jason Kendall Pirates and don't know how you all missed that.
Even just taking Realmuto would have been a better C option than what they ended up with
wagner was taken early as the pirate. if they had gone catcher earlier someone could've gotten him
Wagner from the Pirates was a better pick. Kendall only had 140 steals, you punt on that for the all-time SB-leader at SS.
Shelfy taking Fielder over Granderson or Cobb is insane lol
This is a tough draft that’s for sure Shelfy killed it
I was TWEAKING at none of them choosing Pudge at catcher
