though I had some problem with sea water It also ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn
I've watched so many metal detecting video's and gained a mild interest, some of them 20 to 40 minutes long. This was just over 7 minutes and one of the best I've seen yet. I'm sold. I have a new hobby. I've been retired for 2 years now and I'm buying a metal detector. Thank you sir. Well done. 👍
Thank you for your kind comments. Metal detecting is a great hobby, not only can you find some neat stuff but the exercise is great and you will meet a bunch of really nice people. I wish you the very best of luck. Terry
On the 4th of January this video passed a million views and I thank you all for being a big part of it's success. We all enjoy this wonderful hobby and I wish you all much success. All I ask is that you fill your holes and take the trash out with you when your done, leave the area better than you found it and that will help in keeping this a hobby that we can all enjoy.
Hi Terry hope falls well with you and your family. When you hit those heavy mineralized spot so you still use a wider coil? From my understanding if you are in a area like that bigger coils give you more background noise? Thank you A novice😎👍
Thank you all for viewing my video. I had fun making it and it was unreal that I found the two Spanish coins right while we were filming it. I hope that it will be of some small help when you are out there enjoying this wonderful hobby of ours. God Bless and good luck. Terry
you are very big man and seeker, could you give me some advice? can excalibur 2 to learn to distinguish the gold sound from the rest of the garbage? I work at sea in salt water. dug a lot of coins, I got tired of it... thanks in advance
Your excalibur 2 is a great machine and it has different sounds for different targets. Silver will be high gold low. My advise is use your threshold and move your scoop so your detector will pick it up. This should produce a high tone. Keep doing this and dig the low or nickel sounding tones. Good luck.
Hello Terry. I am an avid beach hunter about 150 miles south of you. While I have watched MANY beach hunting videos over the years, this one is THE BEST one I've ever seen. The beaches of Florida have been very fruitful to me during 2016 and have more than paid for my CTX and Excalibur machines. Inspiring videos such as yours are one reason I got into this wonderful hobby to begin with and it's something I will continue to enjoy for many years to come. GL and SH my friend...
Bravo. That was a very well put together video. Reminds me of my dad who started hunting in the early '70's on the west coast of Florida and he got me started at 15 in 1978 and I've been hunting since. Well continued success and God bless
You have a wealth of knowledge. A true veteran. The advice in this vid is the best advice I have come across.. Would love to go hunting with you and learn a few tip’s from a true master.👍 God bless you.
I would love to hunt with you if the opportunity presents itself but right now are beaches are pretty much closed and of course this coronavirus really has screwed up any detecting. Maybe next year I live in the Melbourne Beach area. Terry
Terry Shannon Hi Terry. Thanks for replying.👍 That would be be truly awesome.! I’m from the uk. I’ will be over Galveston staying with My fiancé, then over Florida visiting My niece for a wk in the new yr. So would love that opportunity to meet up.👍 Stay safe. And I’ll be keeping in touch.👍
I am 37 yr old veterinarian who just moved into Jupiter Farms from Lauderdale (where I am from). I just got in to metal detecting 2 weeks ago as an additional hobby to my usual fishing. I currently have a Tesoro SandShark, but I am about to get a Equinox 600. Only thing I want to do is comb the beach/surf... nothing else. And while I am new, I am a very quick learner. As for reading the beach, surf fishing has always been my #1 hobby in the world, and finding small troughs, cuts, low points, etc... is an art I already have down 110%. My question for you is this. I plan on starting local, between Jupiter Inlet, up north through Tequesta and into South Hobe Sound. To your knowledge, have either 8-escudo or 8-real been pulled from these areas? I understand 5 ships are still unaccounted for, but shouldn't they all have been "somewhat" within eachothers areas? The San miguel de arcangel was found just off Jupiter inlet in the 90s, but this wasn't technically a part of the 1715 fleet right? Anyhow, love your vids... take care... Chris
Terry, I have watched allot of metal detecting videos and this one is my favorite. I really appreciate you actually teaching what to look for and the videography is nicely done. I will be moving to St Augustine area soon and I want to get down to the treasure coast and find my first reales. Thank you again Terry for your videos, your awesome!
Great video Terry. I would really like to come spend a few days detecting with you, but with one child still home most of the day, that won't happen anytime soon. Take care and good luck with your hunting. Mark
very kind of you to share a wealth of information. I live 3 hrs from the coast and rarely go to it . I hope when ever I visit the beach I remember to watch your video again and again. Thanks Pete
Hello Terry, Newly retired, 20 years also in the Coast Guard. Always fan of detecting. Most of it in New Hampshire. To bad I live in lakeland, quite a drive to the east coast but worth it.Being retired, I can travel to the beach anytime! Your video is a great tutor on where and how to detect on the beach. Rings and such are GREAT finds, but older finds please me more. Been reviewing the website 'Treasure Coast' lots of info there. It suggest detecting from Wabasso beach south to Turtle Trail. I think I'll give that a go after this storm. It will be my first time on the beach. Reviewed videos of my Garret ATpro on the beach. Seems it may not be the best for the beach, but with good balancing it might do the job. Subscribed to you and will review you past videos and follow your new ones. I should learn a lot from them. Thanks for your service in the Navy. Looking forward to your new videos. Sorry for the long reply. Good luck and happy hunting. Regards, Bill
Bill good luck on your retirement. I really believe the most important thing you can do is get to know and understand the beach. Watch for low or washed out area's Terry
Terry thanks for helping me at my new hobby, I started metal detecting a month and a half ago and love it. Your tips I'm sure will help me hunting. The why I took to detecting was to lose the big belly and get healthy again. Dave
It's a great hobby and I truly believe that the exercise we get out there detecting will add years to your life. Plus it's just plain fun. Good Luck Terry
hope you're doing well Mr. Shannon, you are still my favorite metal detecting guy no matter how many different people flood you tube with their videos. yours are far superior. My respects
Yes Monty I do. In the spring we get a lot of what I call troughs were a sand bar builds up out deeper and as the tide goes in and out it often forms a 3 or 4 foot deep trough. These are great and I get excited when ever I see one. If the waves are down I like to hunt up to waist deep in front of popular beaches and use my excal for that. Hope this helps Terry
Monty I just wade and detect. When I get a target I try to get the coil right over the target. When I've done that I bring my foot so it's touching the back of my coil. I then move the coil and the target should be right in front of my foot. Be careful when you dig so you don't hit your foot. After a couple it's old hat. I hope this helps Terry
Thank so much for your kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and wish you the best of luck. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you, a computer glitch wouldn't allow me to answer but it's now fixed.
New subscriber...I love thunderstorms..I have walked on the beach 2 times in my life..fell in love ...the smell..the feel of the sand on bare feet...just looking at the sea,and the wonder what is out there...(Lol...Kentucky country gal )...now I live in Bavaria,Germany..My husband is Bavarian...I would love to start metal detecting here...(Roman coins) but I lost my metal detector in the move from Kentucky to Bavaria...sadly..but one day I will be back digging in the dirt..As for now my love for rocks keeps me happy..Yep I'm a huge rock hound..
Awesome tips and some day when I'm lucky enough to take a vacation along the coast you will have saved me a bunch of trouble and time figuring out where and how to detect the beach. To add that pile of treasure you found at the end makes me wish I was there detecting now lol. Yerdigginit sent me over from his channel and very glad he did. Wishing you all the best. Good luck, happy hunting and take care.
Brian is a great guy, we have a mutual friend that made us both aware of each other and I am very impressed with Brian's videos. I apologize for taking so long to get back to you, a computer glitch wouldn't allow me to answer but it's now fixed.
Hello, . I appreciate the beach hunting tips. I mostly metal detect inland but occasionally hit the beach with a Fisher CZ-21, I will follow your advice next time I go there.
Thanks for the tips. I just ordered a minlab vanquish 340 as a beginner. I'm hoping I find some decent stuff on our beaches of lake Michigan. I've seen some good reviews on that machine so I have my fingers crossed and can't wait for it to get here.
Terry how doing Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year , was wondering if you could give me some advise heading to Ft Pierce , next week afraid to take my Excalibur with me for packing reasons do you think a GTA 1000 , Garrett would work for me it has a beach mode or do they rent that kind of stuff , I'm flying in from California to visit my son , Thank you any advise is welcomed , Dagodigger
The beaches are really sanded in right now. If you were only to hunt the wet sand I would say you need the Excalibur but now we are coming off some real plus and minus tides and I think you best chance for something good would be up high. The Garrett is a fine machine and I believe it would serve you well. Good lick and Merry Christmas.
It was nice meeting you at the beach the other day. Thank you for showing us pictures of some of your treasures! I am going to share this video with our daughter, it may increase her metal-detecting luck!
+Jackie Chakhtoura That is one additional benefit about our hobby. I enjoy meeting people like yourself and I always leave thinking I just made a new friend. Terry
Wow I just found you. What a pile to be proud of. A lot of great finds. Incredible. That's a retirement plan you have in the pile of goods. Congratulations to you. Looks like you have aced metal detecting. Really enjoyed your video there is a lot to consider beach detecting. Thank you !
Sandy I am so glad you enjoyed my video. Metal detecting is a wonderful hobby and a big part of the treasure is the people yo meet and the friendships you make. Good luck. Terry
Excellent Video and Black sand is always a good place to look. My Vanquish 540 works rather well there. I live in Avon Park Central Florida, so I do have occasional chances to go to the treasure coast. Still looking for a good hunting buddy to overlap with.
Rich they make some pretty good detectors in that 5 to 6 hundred dollar range and don't count out a used detector. You can often get twice the detector for half the price. Terry
I thank you but that may a bit much on the PhD. I really feel that we have a great hobby but the true treasure is the friends I've made and the people I have met. I wish you the best of luck out there. Terry
I had a long career in law enforcement before retirement and my metal detecting hobby. I don't think that anyone ever said I had a soothing voice. I thank you my friend. Terry
I return a lot of rings and everyone I have return always had a story. I mentioned in an earlier post if people would put their phone number inside their rings a lot more would be returned. On the old stuff I would really love to know the history. Good luck. Terry
@@riverarun Thank you James, I have had several friends that have traveled over and detected your great country. It's on my bucket list for sure. Good luck Terry
Congratulations Aquatek 1 that had to be a huge thrill. I have hunted inland areas where finding one was possible but never had the luck. I have been very lucky on the beach but I'm hunting a prime area. I would love to detect in your great country someday. Terry
Terry, as I watched and listened to your video, my memory flashed back to remembering these are the very same words and message conveyed by Karl Von Mueller and Warren Merkitch in the Beachcomber's Handbook. The three of you are obviously cut from the same highest quality bolt of fine cloth. EXANIMO to you!!!
God bless!well...He blessed you!!!I am in this hobby also and started with Sea Hunter II and now am with Excal II and its an awesome detector.Have found gold of course but nothing as you did!Was wondering about your collection of gold findings, how long it took you to dig all those rings? Thanks in advance.Hope God will bless me like you!
I have been pretty lucky over the years. I have been detecting for about 12 years now and a lot of those rings came from a tubing river in Minnesota. I'm sure you will do well, the good lord takes care of good people. Terry
Peter I would be glad to get together. We just returned to Florida and I'm not even unpacked yet so could we wait until I get settled in. My e mail address is tshannon3@cfl.rr.com. Terry
Terry, Just picking up my new Xterra 705 today at UPS, I will contact you shortly.. Need to swing this thing a few before we go out. I know it's not the best Beach detector but we can see if we can do it! LOL Would be fun. Pete
I am recovering from major surgeries and have a wound vacuum so I cannot swim or even go in a Jacuzzi or bathtub this summer. I live in the Midwest now but am taking up metal detecting as soon as I can find a decent affordable setup because the one thing I am allowed and encouraged to do is walk. When I was recovering from surgery 5 years ago I beachcomber in CA. Now I'm in South Dakota and I can go to the lakes and rivers and parks. Thanks for the tips and encouragement great video.
Tonina I am sorry about your medical issues. I'm 78 years old and enjoy good health and I believe a big part of it is due to the exercise I get when detecting. I wish you a total recovery and believe that metal detecting will not only help but is also a lot of fun. Good luck and hang in there. Terry
I have been very lucky, there is a river up here in Minnesota that the people float down. They were doing this for 25 years before I started detecting it and I was one of the first to detect it. It was unreal the amount of stuff I found. I always tell everyone if you have to chose between luck and skill take the luck and I have been lucky. Terry
I have watched this video several times and I plan on watching many more of your videos. There is wisdom hear we do not see on other beach detecting videos. Thank you very much! Florida to me is scarce in relics but not the beach. I was not born hear but conceived.
Great advice. Most people swing too fast and want to cover as much ground as they can. Some days its just one spot that turns up the days haul. When you are digging targets they will tell you a lot of information if you know how to read it.
Hi bud very good video clip i shared it on Brisbane Metal Detecting Club Facebook page i hope you are ok with that. I like to promote people doing well within the hobby.
Not on the east coast but I'm on the north coast! I'll be putting what I've learned from You to good use! There is black sand and we have the same rip pools during storms unfortunately they are mostly in November and into December. But anything worth trying is worth the cold and wind. I'll be interested to see what happens in the upcoming weeks with my new found knowledge👍 Thanks for sharing your experience and I hope Your book sales are tremendous!
Sneads Ferry , N. Carolina...been there many times when I was stationed at Camp Lejuene....Topsail is a good place to metal detect...also Onslow Beach especially if you can get a Visitors Pass on base at Camp Lejuene...
I'm not sure but there are 3 rings in that pile that appraised for over 10 thousand. Saying that what they are worth and what you can get for them is often very different. I just enjoy the hunt. Good Luck. Terry
+wadoman699 Thank you for the kind comments and good luck detecting the treasure coast. The treasure is there but the conditions have to be right to find it. Terry
Rob I had some medical issues that have been resolved and I apologize for taking so long to reply. Thank you for your kind comments. We enjoy a great hobby and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Terry
Oh, I am so excited to watch this and learn as much as possible because I'm trying to get my grandson in it. I used to go with my grandfather when I was young and its absolutely like Christmas to me. I wish I lived right on a beach I'd do this all day everyday. Wishing you the best of luck and happy hunting my friend
Katie what you are doing is a wonderful thing. I took my great grandchildren out detecting and they had a ball but then great grandpa made sure there was a lot of treasure to be found. I wish you the very best and respect you for taking the time to pass on this great hobby. Terry
@@terryshannon2991 your collection is more than admirable and should you ever decide that it could be displayed to see somewhere, I'll pay money to come view it. I'd say there are many museums that would love to have it. Lol. I've passed this or more videos on to some of my family, one being a marine biologist and he is fascinated. But, thank you so much again and God Bless
Shared and posted with all my friends, unfortunately I am the only one who does this. Fantastic vidio , learned a mouthful, only thing is I am on the northern great lakes . No no we still get the black oil spilled looking sand. 😄 thank you for the idea.

I'm a new sub...lost my gold diamond ring my ex bought me. Kept it forever, he passed then I lost it...happy you found such a nice treasure. Blessings to you and your loved ones... everyone, cherish life & loved ones while there' alive, worth more than silver and gold..:)
I agree with what you say and life is so much better if you have someone to share it with. So sorry for you loss. I have been able to return some rings that were very special to those that lost them and it's a great feeling. Everyone should scribe their phone number inside their ring. God Bless, Terry
excellent advice. Once I found my first ring, the others came much easier. You just never know what's going to come out of the sand. The show and tell on the riel is amazing to me. I may have had one in my hand and never knew it......thxs. You have proven to me to be one of the best MDers on the net.

Your very welcome and I wish you luck. Terry
Terry; helluva great video. Really enjoyed watching you work.
Thank You Eugene, I have been so blessed to be able to do what I do. Terry
Terry
This advice is gold worth!
Thank you Anthro. We enjoy a great hobby and I wish you the best of luck. Terry
@@terryshannon2991 You are an awesome guy, thank you and stay healthy!
So informative! Thanks so much for sharing this!
Great video thanks for sharing your experience with us all.
I love getting out there and swinging.
You are certainly welcome. We enjoy a great and sometime exciting hobby. I wish you the very best. Terry
You've taught me a lot. I'm reading your book Detecting the Treasure Coast and it's very good. 💖💯
Thank you for sharing your years of wisdom.👍
Thank You Fernando, we certainly have a great hobby and I believe a lot of the fun is when we can share. Good luck Terry
Thank you for the great tips, great video. By the way I lost that gold ring on top of your pile LOL.
I have been pretty lucky and have made some really neat finds. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Howdy Terry
Just currious
What is a good price to start out for a metal detector
Thanks
Rich
Rich they make some pretty good detectors in that 5 to 6 hundred dollar range and don't count out a used detector. You can often get twice the detector for half the price. Terry
You deserve a PhD in Metal Detecting!
I thank you but that may a bit much on the PhD. I really feel that we have a great hobby but the true treasure is the friends I've made and the people I have met. I wish you the best of luck out there. Terry
Now you see...this is exactly the best advice new metal detectors need to help us look in the right places. Thanks. 🤗
I thank you, I really believe the ability to read the beach is probably the most important. I wish you the best of luck. Terry
Look at all those wonderful shells! I'd be thrilled to gather those. Oh and a gold coin would be nice, too...
I enjoy the shells also but the gold coin would be fantastic. Best of luck. Terry
i'm on my way with excalibur 2 hopefull beginning of Nov.
Must be good after the storm.
If we meet on the beach be sure to say stop and visit a bit. Terry
What fucking storm snow-turd??????
such a soothing voice
I had a long career in law enforcement before retirement and my metal detecting hobby. I don't think that anyone ever said I had a soothing voice. I thank you my friend. Terry
I recently bought a metal detector and this video is most helpful. I will certainly be out after the next storm. 🙏 thank you.
Wow, thank you so much for the words of wisdom. I’m going to mindful of this when I’m out on the beach.
How fun. This is something I've always wanted to do
It's strange to think of all the pride/emotions/life events/relationships attached to each individual ring on that table..
I return a lot of rings and everyone I have return always had a story. I mentioned in an earlier post if people would put their phone number inside their rings a lot more would be returned. On the old stuff I would really love to know the history. Good luck. Terry
@@terryshannon2991 terry wish you would do some detecting in the u/k.all the best from the u.k
@@riverarun Thank you James, I have had several friends that have traveled over and detected your great country. It's on my bucket list for sure. Good luck Terry
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I also found a 1 reale coin in field in Nottinghamshire England.
Wow now that is a complement and i thank you my friend. Best of Luck Terry
Terry
Mr. Terry
I live in Sebastian and thinking maybe we can go out some time..
Let me know what you think bud!
LOL
Would be fun.
Pete
@@PickinPins and Terry was never heard of again...LOL
Excellent information sir. Things I can definitely apply to hunting on the beach. You just got yourself a new subscriber. Cheers!
I thank you Geno, I truly believe that a lot of the fun is sharing. I have been very lucky. Good Luck Terry
Terry
Hey! That’s my ring!
Thanks for viewing my video hope you enjoyed.
Wow that is insane! I’ve never found a ring on my channel! And you found so many!
Thanks Roy I certainly wish you the best of luck. Terry
Great advice. Most people swing too fast and want to cover as much ground as they can. Some days its just one spot that turns up the days haul. When you are digging targets they will tell you a lot of information if you know how to read it.
good stuff..i go up and down on south jersey beaches..thanks for some more tips..chris/nj
Your welcome Chris. Good luck out there Terry
Hey man that’s my ring
I have a lot of rings no question. I have returned quite a few but there are many that there is no way to find the owner. Terry

Hi bud very good video clip i shared it on Brisbane Metal Detecting Club Facebook page i hope you are ok with that.
I like to promote people doing well within the hobby.
I'm very ok with that and thank you for your interest and I like and agree with you on helping others. Terry
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, it has been very helpful.
You are certainly welcome Arron. I really believe that a lot of the fun is sharing. I wish you the very best. Terry
Thank you so much for the kind words and I wish you the best of luck. Terry
I love your stuff on Facebook but somehow I missed your UA-cam page☺️👋
Congratulations on the silvers👋
I've seen some things on the North end I also had a dream about wearing some treasure is I'm going to try and see if it is there in sneads ferry
Sneads Ferry , N. Carolina...been there many times when I was stationed at Camp Lejuene....Topsail is a good place to metal detect...also Onslow Beach especially if you can get a Visitors Pass on base at Camp Lejuene...
I wish you luck. I truly believe that there is treasure all over that has a history. Good Luck. Terry
what ?
1:00 Bet that pile of rings is worth, what $100k+?
I'm not sure but there are 3 rings in that pile that appraised for over 10 thousand. Saying that what they are worth and what you can get for them is often very different. I just enjoy the hunt. Good Luck. Terry
Amazing finds you got there. Love those rings.
Fine video. Thank you. I visit the Treasure Coast twice a year to see family and detect. I appreciate your very wise suggestions.
+wadoman699 Thank you for the kind comments and good luck detecting the treasure coast. The treasure is there but the conditions have to be right to find it. Terry
Nice collection I take it you do it for fun not for a profil GOD BLESS
You are right Albert the true treasure is the people I meet and the friends I have made. Terry
I'm a good read of people (I'd like to think so lol)but you are the real thing, there's so many fake folks on UA-cam.mint video thanks pal

Awesome 👍 job. Please make more movies like this. Thanks liked 👍 and subscribed hello from the Kentucky mountains USA
Thank you for your kind words. I hope to have another video out this season. I would love to do a little relic hunting in your area. Good Luck Terry
Why reveal all your trade secrets and share your area? That's less treasure for you.

One of my bucket list things to do. Thank you great information.
If you detect you really have to detect the treasure coast at least once. The history down here is so great. The fishing is pretty good also. Terry
Defiantly want to fish there, my biggest issue is getting a detector that I can trust and rely on
Nice finds! That's a lot of rings you found. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Alan it's been fun. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Terry
This was awesome. Im following you. You're ring pile looks like mine. I found well over 100 rings this year. Great video
