Among Male artists James House was pretty damned underrated too. One of the most underrated ever. Never understood why Radio didn't like him. Phenomenal talent.
RADNEY FOSTER Is THE MOST UNDERRATED Man in Country Music History This One of the The Best Cover Of a Merle Haggard Song I've ever heard And what did Nashville Do for Him not a DAMN THING He was Proof That a Real Artist Always Get The Shaft DAMN YOU GARTH BROOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!.
He had everything going for him, but he wore glasses, he should have ditched those. If nobody told him to get rid of those, he had a bad management team, because everyone that knows anything about country music, can tell you that no male has ever hit superstar status with glasses.......... Don't think that's important??... Kenny Chesney is so blind, he can't see who is his front row audience without glasses yet he will never wear glasses on stage.... Or in any promo photos or album photos for that matter. Seems strange but in country music, glasses are just as important to male singers as long hair is to female singers. Offensive as it may sound to some people, short haired girls do not hit the big time. Some may cut their hair short once they are there, but they didn't get there with short hair.
Never thought Radney got nearly the recognition he deserved. Yet some of the crap they play now and call country I just say wtf? Thank God for these old videos!!
Man country music just ain't the same anymore, so lucky to grow up in an era of country music outside of dirt roads, big truck, Friday nights, sunsets and cold beers, today's country is pop crap
First time I heard Radney do this he was performing on Austin City Limit. It blew me away. I am a big Merl Haggard fan but I have to say the Hag has got to take a back seat on this one.
This is the top gun version of this song Thank you Radney You have the real true talent to keep country music 🎶 the way it should be Thanks for being yourself !!
I listen to a fare amount of hiccup covers of different songs but this one takes the cake and ice cream to. All I can say is WOW excellent job and the pictures puts it over the top.
" Every front door had me hopin' , I could find the back door open, there always had to be an exit for the running kind".... Any rebel misfit like me can feel that.
OH MY GOODNESS I AM A TRUE COUNTRY BOY AT HEART....FROM DIBOLL ,TEXAS...! YEAH LOVE ME SOME RADNEY COUNTRY PICKIN'. HE SHOULD'VE BEEN BIGGER BUT HERE WE ARE ENJOYING HIS MUSIC. OL' HAG MUST BE JUST A GRINNIN' 😁 THANK YOU RADNEY...🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎸🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
The hottest country is the older country music. The new stuff is soft rock that has cannibalized real country music. As Alan Jackson put it "there as been a murder on country row". Go for Alan Jackson, Merle Haggard, Farron Young, Patsy Cline, Randy Travis, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Dwight Yokam, Mandy Barnett, Charley Pride, Hank Williams, Tammy Wynette, Ray Price, and Glen Campbell. That should get you started with real American country music, enjoy.
I saw him with Foster and Lloyd (I am dating myself), and he clearly loves to perform. My point was that his songwriting royalties and reputation gave him the option of having a prolific music career without going through the hassles of the star system.
As much as I like Merle Haggard's original, This one is far better. It's extremely rare when I like a cover better than an original but Radney Foster has nailed this one perfectly.
THIS IS A GREAT VERSION OF THE RUNNING KIND...AS GOOD A THE HAGS VERSION FROM THE 70S. I MISS THE TRADITIONAL REAL COUNTRY MUSIC FROM THE 60S AND 70S...I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MOST OF THIS GARBAGE BEING PLAYED ON COUNTRY RADIO IS EVEN CONSIDERED TO BE COUNTRY MUSIC!!! UNTIL THE COUNTRY MUSIC IS REALLY COUNTRY MUSIC AGAIN I'LL BE LISTENING TO MY MP3...I KNOW FOR SURE THAT'S REAL COUNTRY MUSIC FROM THE 60S AND 70S
Man what I wouldn't give to go back to real country! Today's garbage has be begging for Garth Brooks who I despised as a kid. Country has skidded so far away. The good stuff gets no radio play.
I suspect that Radney didn't become a superstar because he could make just as much money walking ot his mailbox to get his royalty checks for songs like "Raining on Sunday" or "A Real Fine Place to Start" without having to spend his whole life in a tour bus.
Sorry, MikeW ... but I think ol' Radney eclipses Alan by light years when it comes to songwriting and just (way slightly) behind the Big S vocally! Rad rules ... and you know it! ;) But no one touches Merle on this one!
Radney is the most underrated artist in all of country music.
Among Male artists James House was pretty damned underrated too. One of the most underrated ever. Never understood why Radio didn't like him. Phenomenal talent.

Kelton King LOL
Bad company
I agree. It's up there with the Roy Orbison cover by Nazareth and Nouvelle Vague's version of This Is Not A Love Song by PIL.
I agree

It is so hard for me to believe that his videos don't receive more views. His music is wonderful,he is a Texan and looks great. 😉😆
This is one of my favorite versions of this song. Love the arrangement.
Country radio screwed up ignoring this. Would have been a big hit if it had gotten exposure.
Never thought Radney got nearly the recognition he deserved. Yet some of the crap they play now and call country I just say wtf? Thank God for these old videos!!
@@jimmylizabethwolfenden2503 Was this song ever on a album?
@@animal6039 it is on the album "Mama's Hungry Eyes:A Tribute To Merle Haggard." It's not available on any of Radney Foster albums.
@Keith Clark yeah, right. No one ever covered another song. DUHHHHHH
@Keith Clark yeah, ok.
Man country music just ain't the same anymore, so lucky to grow up in an era of country music outside of dirt roads, big truck, Friday nights, sunsets and cold beers, today's country is pop crap
Superb tribute song to the Hags, thanks Radney🎉
Good lord, this is fantastic!!!
Merle would be proud of you sir
Got to meet him in Austin Texas doing a book signing and concert
Great guy

Great song and great version.
U done a very very g😢 job on this song

I love this song!
So true: Home was never home to me at any time.
I listen to a fare amount of hiccup covers of different songs but this one takes the cake and ice cream to. All I can say is WOW excellent job and the pictures puts it over the top.
Go Radney!! A very creditable version!

OL' HAG MUST BE JUST A GRINNIN' 😁
THANK YOU RADNEY...🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎸🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
pure Texas and very good music
This is my way of life
I have one BIG question. Why do we not hear more pedal steel guitar in contemporary ' country ' music. It's almost like there's a law against it.
Good voice!
My god this is good.
Yes its very good.. Still love him after all these years😁😁😁
Absolutely killer version of this, one of Merle Haggards best songs (IMO). It just captures the feeling, great arrangement.
This guy can sing his face off ! Very good ! Merle is smiling
Sooooooo Goooood!!! WOW!!!
U go boy👍
I love Merle but Radney's version is my fave on this track
Happy vietnam Viet nam veterans day to all of us
Me too.
Helluva job Radney! Well done sir!
His version is actually done very well. Usually a remake of a Merle Haggard song isn't very good.
WOW!!!
@jamcrane3 You just expressed my very own thoughts about the state of country music. So long as it sells, authenticity and excellence be damned.
As a rule, I don't like covers because they show a lack of creativity. But, sometimes, they' re pretty good.
Excellent song by Radney Foster..............and needless to say the Hag also.
I'm new to Radney Foster, but loving every bit

Oops and George Strait.
Rick Smith and Gene Watson
Wilf Williamson -Yes and Gene Watson
Huge Radney fan. Of all the live shows I've ever seen the only show that came close was Charlie Pride.
I saw him with Foster and Lloyd (I am dating myself), and he clearly loves to perform.
My point was that his songwriting royalties and reputation gave him the option of having a prolific music career without going through the hassles of the star system.
Great Song Merle Haggard and Radney Foster
What a GREAT COVE MERLE ROCKS, RADNEY IS WAY COOL! I CAN NEVERN COME CLOSE TO THAT AND IM A MUSICIAN AND DO VOCALS.
Gr8 job on the video & song Radney, Really Enjoyed ;)
Wonderful tribute to Merle Haggard.
Great players, insane steel player.. who is he.. the authentic "Rodeo" sound. Thanks a bunch. CickleK
As much as I like Merle Haggard's original, This one is far better. It's extremely rare when I like a cover better than an original but Radney Foster has nailed this one perfectly.
Even though I am a die hard Haggard fan, I have to agree.
Well done
I'm a Hag fan so i didn't think i would like this cut.I liked it a lot.
Radney killed it !
@Rightsideup
You're right there, bubb... the best guys are the ones nobody even knows about.
I remember I heard this song back in 95 and this video of the song was on CMT 2. What happened 2 him?
Jimmie Crawford on steel guitar playing his JCH steel!
I love Merle , but yes, Radney did ace it.
The Hag was the best concert I ever attended.....Mammoth
same here R.P.
Very good and tell me where are u now and what are u doing??
Adored by us radicals and renegades. Contemporarily up tempo and relevant all wagers.
Did Randy' write this, meek haggard also sang? Any way I love and live this song.
a time when country music had talent
THIS IS A GREAT VERSION OF THE RUNNING KIND...AS GOOD A THE HAGS VERSION FROM THE 70S.

Did Rad' ever release this? On which album? It suits his amazing voice so beautifully - it makes me all tingly! :P
I grew up in Weatherford - home of th Kangaroos - when it was a small town. Radney's vid shoot was kind of a big deal then.
I lived in Aledo for a bit before I joined the Army.
Texan, good looks, sings wonderful..😂
Telecaster and J200. Pretty slick
Great version! Anyone know who's playing the B-Bender Tele?
That would be Mike McAdams. Formerly of Steve Earle and the Dukes.
I disagree. Radney loves performing and will even go to some pretty small venues. I saw him last week at a small club in the Atlanta area.
Is this on a CD somewhere? Can't seem to find it.
Anyone ever felt like someone was inside your head when they wrote a song ? This is one for me.
I love The Hag to death and I have to agree with you.
I'm having trouble finding this version for download, could anyone help??
use youtube to mp3
@ :21 in is that Lockhart Tx? just curious cuz it seems like it is
oh wow cool thanks sorry it took so long to respond. It kind of reminds me of lockhart LOL
🎼🎤👍👍👍
RANDY FOSTER WAS A JERRY'S KID POSTER CHILD WHEN HE WAS 14 - HE STILL COULD BE - ROFL!!!
Man what I wouldn't give to go back to real country! Today's garbage has be begging for Garth Brooks who I despised as a kid. Country has skidded so far away. The good stuff gets no radio play.
I am 64, just discovered this kid. Does he still play anywhere?
I love this song & his voice here, BUT has you listened to his newer songs? His voice has changed so much it doesn't sound like the same guy anymore.
Does anyone know the chords to this song. I can't fine em anywhere...
damn it !! ***** i stop, should have kept on running. hain't hog tied yet. time to get my running boots out. although i,m getting old now
I suspect that Radney didn't become a superstar because he could make just as much money walking ot his mailbox to get his royalty checks for songs like "Raining on Sunday" or "A Real Fine Place to Start" without having to spend his whole life in a tour bus.
Like bshdad said, it's I-IV-V. This version is in A, so it's A to D to E repeat.
Looked like weatherford courthouse.
Not bad:-)
its ok, not in the same league as Hags version
This song was written about me before I was even born....LOL
Jim Morrison photo on the billboard
Sorry, MikeW ... but I think ol' Radney eclipses Alan by light years when it comes to songwriting and just (way slightly) behind the Big S vocally! Rad rules ... and you know it! ;) But no one touches Merle on this one!
Good but I prefer Marty Stuart's version especially his lead solo
A little bit sound of Yoakum
There capoed
A d and e
Just wish that he wouldn't hoo off stage like a rockstar wannabe.
they only promote who they want has nutin to do with talent and what a shame like willie says and merle itsall going to pot lol sad
This is not a Radney song, this is a Merle Haggard song.
Not bad, but Merles version is MUCH better.
