  • How Long Should You Wait to Eat Between Meals?
Interestingly, it's a weirdly specific number. How long you wait to et between meals depends on one major pathway in the body called the Migrating Motor Complex. In today's video, I'm sharing the details of the Migrating Motor Complex and how this relates to how long you should wait to eat between meals. The migrating motor complex is a natural process within the body that can help to reduce GERD, bloating and SIBO.

I am loving all of your content, thank you for sharing so much helpful science-backed information! I do have one question to clarify with previous info I've heard about metabolism - is there an amount of time that is too long to go in-between meals? I've come to understand that it's beneficial to eat 5 small meals during the day to continue your metabolism or something along those lines... I'd love if you could touch on that subject.

I do it similar. If you’re doing IF then you gotta know how long you have ti fast and how long you have ti eat. For me its 12:12 so I can eat from 7am to 7pm. I eat breakfast at 7 am then wait for four hours till lunch. Lunch is at 12 pm then I wait another four hours. Then I’ll eat dinner. Dinner is at 4 for me. But honestly it alll depends on how much your body can consume. They say three meals are always the best.

How about gum like halfway between meals? I’m guessing you’d say “If you must, chew right after a meal.” I know it’s great to be informed but it just keeps heaping rules upon and around eating just to reach wellness goals. I may want to chew gum 2 hours after lunch, and actually that’s when I drink my creamer coffee because I can’t in the morning, and I‘m too full after lunch to enjoy sipping coffee. So I eat lunch at 12 and make my coffee sometime between 2-3.
Also, I am 2 weeks into IF so I am still new to this and reading and watching a ton. One person says it’s best to break the fast with a fruit like an apple, while another person recommends breaking the fast with lean protein like a piece of chicken. Because I’m trying to heed both of those individuals’ advice, I’ve been doing a piece of apple, then wait 30 min, then eat a piece of meat, then wait another 30 minutes, then jump into my main balanced meal of meat/veg/starch. But now this video seems to say to eat everything at once so you have more time in between meals instead of spreading out the lunch. There is so much conflicting info even just on UA-cam, it’s kind of overwhelming.
Another thing I’ve heard people say is that by smelling food or thinking about or anticipating food you can throw off your fast. I am very big into aroma, and like to melt bakery wax to help get me through a craving. But now I’m afraid that prepping food (sometimes I feel like I can taste the food!) or melting wax during my fasting window will spike my insulin, and I’m not willing to do “mind over matter” because I don’t want to avoid an intoxicating scent or delicious aroma that makes me salivate, in order to follow IF. But it is discouraging to think that because of this stance I’m not doing it right. Can’t pretend your water is a protein shake, can’t watch a mukbang, can’t bake cookies for your kids, or even walk past a donut shop - unless it’s in your eating window. Not sustainable or enjoyable. These are some of my concerns about this endless mind control game that feels very much like striving for willpower to avoid a binge, except that it’s with your brain to control negative body responses.

Hi Autumn, thanks for another great & informative vlog... So I've been doing IF for a few years now on & off but for the last year, I've been very serious with it. I usually eat just the OMAD but sometimes I'll have two. I'm fine with doing a longer fasting window & can go 23 hours very easily & use the single hour for eating or if I eat twice I'll usually wait 3 hours so my window will be between 12pm - 3pm or 1pm - 4pm or 2pm - 5pm my last meal will never be later than 6pm, so by all accounts it looks likes I'm kinda in range "wouldn't you say?"
I don't do sugar & have vastly cut the number of carbs I consume & as a result, I have lost 84 lbs, 38kg or 6 stones as we like to use in the UK, over a 2 year period, with limited exercise due to restrictions from other ailments/injuries.
Many thanks for breaking this down & giving us a greater understanding of the topic. Keep up the good work. Love & light, God Bless.

When I went to my doctor because of my bloating issues he said to me that it's something normal and you don't have to be worry.
And when I asked him about what if I have sibo he told me what is that sibo?!!!!
How it's possible that my doctor doesn't know anything about sibo, I hate him

Western docs aren’t educated on these symptoms. It’s also not in there interest to cure you because there’s no money in that. Broken medical system.

Hi, I've been following you but I wonder if a bit of feedback would help you. It's only my opinion and you can do whatever you want to with it. Maybe less is more. You offer a lot of complex information with animation, talk at a fast-ish pace and music. I find your content valuable but sometimes difficult to get the point.

I've encountered that same feeling on other channels. There's a setting you can select that slows down the playback by up to 50%. Being from New England, she seems to talk at a normal pace for me, but I can imagine that's not the case for everyone watching. Also, I find it helpful to rewind the timeline if a point is going by to fast.

@@markcoren2842 I was coming here to say this. You can slow down or speed up the play back speed.
