I've owned a GX since 2017 and I completely agree. It does everything hassle free and is also a Land Cruiser, meaning it can do great off-roading provided you are careful with the approach angles.
@@JoeHan268 Not heavy duty off-roading, but doing unpaved country roads and snowy or muddy grasslands without roads. No rock crawling or anything that would damage it much. It's still built for that, at a bare minimum if you aren't willing to damage it.
David, the 2023 GX is really a great vehicle for price. It is like the 4Runner in that it has been it has not changed much...but kaizen improvements have been made each model year. I am thinking of trading my 2020 4Runner TRD Off-Road for the 2023 GX with the V8. I think it would be great for you to get a 2023 GX with V8 and keep as a long-term vehicle before it goes away in current form.
I have a 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road which I absolutely love! I do take it on the beach in New Jersey which is awesome. I'm also thinking of trading it in for the 2023 Lexus GX. Did you get the GX???
Great video. I currently own a 2004 GX470 and plan on factory ordering a 2023 in Jan. I was thinking about buying an LX but the cost and what you just said about the handling and not being as good a road trip car as the GX helped me make up my mind. Also, I just sat in a 2023 LX and think it is too big for my tastes.
Always informative, yet concise. No one does it better. Thank you! As for my preference, neither vehicle suits my lifestyle--I have driven vans and minivans since 1984--but I am nonetheless smitten by the value, peerless quality, and of course, the sublime V8 of the GX.
Dude.....this LX is something else, man. Its a tank, like the GX. The bottom line is, both are incredible. Its what you can spare dollar wise to own. Not many can do 100-115K car, these days, but I would pick the LX over all German cars in a heartbeat !!!!!!
I have an older lx470 and a new 2022 gx460, luxury: They are both beautiful, reliable, and super comfortable. Their respective mpg’s are beatable by many SUV’s, but other than that they are perfect…
First off, great and heart felt honest review. I so appreciate that. And your opinion of the factory's, was great. I would love to see a comparison of the 2023 GX vs the Sequoia.
David I really enjoy your input & your honesty on these vehicles. I just purchased a 2022 GX luxury and I love it ! I had a 2017 GX for 2 years and traded in for a sports car but had to come back to the GX before that amazing V-8 goes away . Comparing the 2 the 2022 does seem so much more luxurious & refined. It will probably never leave the pavement but it’s nice to know I can if I want to, but I have a 2020 Tacoma Pro for that lol yes we’re a Toyota family. GX for off-roading since it's literally a Landcruiser Prado which is a short wheelbase Landcruiser designed specifically for off-roading when thr full size Landcruiser got to big. However the next gen GX needs better mpgs... looking forward to the new turbo GXs
LX has 3 major design fails: split liftgate is gone, this gives you no storage behind 3rd row with seats up, and terrible placement of infotainment. As a bonus , worst spot for volume knob in Lexus history. I think the upcoming TX will fix all these issues. GX is much better car if you can get past the barn door.
Thank you for your for you great review. I'm thinking about the gx this year and wasn't sure if the lx was worth the cost considering I do not need it as a people mover but average commute and to toe a few toys on the weekend. I'd much rather have the natural aspired v8 also. It is true and tested and much easier to work on
Very good comparison David, thanks! I just bought a new 2022 GX460, among others, guided by your feedback. I'd love a technical video of that famous V8 and the GX's gearbox. Thank you very much!
I believe that the current LX will undergo a number of refinements/revisions in the coming years as there are too many issues in the current vehicle - along with ones you mention in the video I’ve read that the Mark Levinson is sub par as well. Meanwhile, the GX really is excellent for what it is - given the huge price difference I can’t see how going with the LX makes any sense right now
As a PhD in Computer Engineering (Systems and Networks) and a MBA, you have a great UA-cam introduction- it grabbed my attention. Analogous to “Scotty Kilmer’s” channel introduction with over 5e6 subscribers. I just subbed! Great intro and content, good sir…
David, when are you going to do a review on 2023 Subaru Ascent , AWD standard in Subaru, I like SUV to be driven in Vancouver, BC/ Seattle, WA. Comparing this with Toyota Highlander AWD or higher. Thanks for your time and honest opinions. Excellent video on Lexus.
I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia 4WD that is currently has 258K miles on it and is still running very well, everything on it is stock from 20 yrs ago, well except for the power steering rack, it leaked fluids and I had to replace it last year. I made the mistake of letting my daughter use it to drive to school and back when she was in high school starting in 2017, and she banged it up pretty good, nicks and dents everywhere , but it still drive nice and smooth with no drive train issue. So with it all banged up looking I am in desperate need of a new SUV. I really want the new Sequoia but I am thinking more and more that I'm not sure if I want a first generation vehicle with everything new and unproven. So now I am really really leaning toward the 2023 Lexus GX. My local Lexus dealership have them in stock believe it or not. Though my wife says it's too much of a gas hog for us to own it long run especially this day and age, and the space is not as good as our current Sequoia. I do have to agree with her on both. What Am I going to do!?
New Sequoia Limited with Off-road package cost 72K vs 62K for a 23 GX Black Line (best looking GX). That 10K savings more than make up the extra gas you have to put into GX for the next 20 years. Plus you get full time 4wd with GX so your wife doesn’t have to think about when to switch to 4H from 2H (new Sequoia is part time 4wd unlike the old Sequoia), not to mention better build quality (Tahara factory vs Texas factory). The new Sequoia looks much bigger from outside than from inside due to hybrid battery compartment
I'd really love to get your take on possibly purchasing a 2021 LX 570 vs a 2024 GX 550 Overtrail? I'm looking at a 2021 LX 570 and wondering. I know from the tech bells and whistles on the GX 550 this one will be of course light years ahead. However, the V-8 engine is SOOOOOOO tempting specially that it will never be available again and I am NOT crazy about the LX 600.
I would choose the Land Cruiser if Toyota would bring it back to the states. They wanted to sell the LX in place of the Land Cruiser in the USA but it's just not the same with the huge wheels, low profile tires, and low hanging front bumper. That makes me lean towards the GX 460, but as a Land Cruiser 200 series owner that is a down grade from what I have now. I really wish Toyota would bring the Land Cruiser back or offer an Off Road package on the LX similar the the GR Sport Land Cruiser with lockers and better bumper design for off road capability.
I hear this argument about the V8 in the GX, but having driven it. and it's Toyota Prado sister, which has similar engine specs but in a V6, I really couldn't tell the difference. That Prado engine has also been around for years, and has proven reliability.
I went for the 22 gx460 cause of the old school underpinnings while having the updated entertainment system. There is too much new tech in the lx to go wrong.
Please advise: Should I buy the 2023 GX for 60K or wait for the new 2024 GX for the same price? Do you think the GX price will come down towards the end of the year? It just doesn't make sense.
What do you think will happen to the GX with V8 engines 15 years from now? Will there be mechanics knowledgeable enough to work on them? Will they become collectible or just dinosaurs?
In Canada, top trim GX is pushing 90K CAD. I bought new LX Premium which is the comparable trim to the top GX in April for 107K CAD. Unless your hart is set on the V8, LX is simply a superior vehicle. It is LC with Lexus badge on it. GX is great until LX pulls up beside it.
@@zhamed9587 MPG, Styling, Road Presence, Cool Factor, Exclusivity, integration of 3rd row into the floor without 3 inch step like the GX, being a real deal LC with Lexus badge
Navy veteran and I have narrowed it down to one of these three the GX 460 the GX 550 and the LX 600. Now the price range of the LX 600 is shying me away at $90,000 and apparently it is not that much bigger than the GX 550 about 8 inches taller and 3-4 inches wider. I think besides the price, the LX 600, I heard has the same engine as the Tundra so that thing is going to be a gas sipper. I am leaning to the GX 550 it is the nice, sweet spot of large but not too large. You are paying for the maintenance of a GX 550 if you get the 460 so might as well pay a little more, I believe $7,000 difference and get the bigger SUV. I am guessing the difference between the GX 550 and the LX 600 is the LX will probably have the heavy-duty Toyota Tundra's engine, but I think Toyota is ditching the V8 and going with the twin turbo heavy v6. The GX 550 is the compromise, and I could get a Hybrid and F sport and it will still probably be less than the base LX 600. I will do the three years and two months trick to get it at 40% off the MSRP so I am thinking if the LX 600 will have a base price of 90,000 and luxury 127,000 the GX 500 should be 60,000-75,000. I would rather have a GX 550 F sport 3-4 years old vs a 5-6-year-old base LX 600. I will STIL rent out both the GX 460 and GX 550 Plus one thing to factor, I think people will have a tough time or not be able to squeeze in the LX 600 in their garage, if they get a tow hitch but you could with your GX 500 because people can fit a Land Cruiser. Basically, you want to ask what do you want a 4 runner a Land Cruiser or a Land Cruiser + and which can you afford, most likely used unless you are some Arab sheik. In that case I say salam walakom and enjoy your new tricked out LX 600 with probably 500,000 dollars' worth of diamonds encrusted in the body. Also, the Bulgarian Russian American fiancé will not complin about the size of the GX 500, I am sure neither will yours. She might about the LX 600 either the price or the size. If you are single or gay, this does not apply to you. no judgement.
Thanks so much. I loved the Prado overseas so hoping to get a used GX. Do you have any advice for value shoppers looking for used GX models? Would you consider a good condition GX470 or only 460?
Another difference is the screen. Even thought GX has smaller one, everything is combined and practical. While LX has dual screen, plus new turbo engine which is yet to prove itself. LX 2022 is the new guy in town and everybody is sceptical about him😁
I have a 2004 Suzuki XL-7 with a V6. It was made in Japan. It’s a body on frame with a 3rd row seat. She’s still going strong. There’s something to be said about cars made in Japan. With that said I would like to upgrade. I wanted the top dog LX, but there is a case for the GX. I would be getting nothing earlier than a 2020 for an LX because of the price. If I get a GX I can get a newer model fully loaded in white for the same price. Since it will be V8 in either I’m able to afford, I feel like I may as well get the top. Huhhhh
Very useful video and I did have a question about GX models and premium gas. What happens if you need to fill the tank and the premium is not available.. Is knocking occurring quickly? Do you notice a difference in performance immediately?
hi David, why is there actually a difference in quality over the two factories? Isn't this a matter of copying the standard of work and regulations and procedures to the other factories? how can it be that there are differences between the qualities?
There's something about the new Lexus models that simply doesn't feel right. I got the new 2022 NX350 and while it's comfortable and smooth, I can't help thinking about my next car.
Just got into a 22 LX and I couldn’t believe how crammed it is inside, especially in the back seat. The seats don’t move back!. They are fixed. On the other hand, the GX back seat can slide backwards. The LX has more cargo room but the current GX has more interior space than the current LX. I couldn’t believe it!. If you want a roomier cabin, get the GX over the current LX. If you don’t believe me, go get into one!
Hello ! Chao Your explanation abt lx and gx is excellent but again my question is why japan not make right hand drive in gx and 4runner ? I am living in Karachi-Pakistan. Everytime I asked in japan broker to search 4runner or gx but he said left-hand for Europe and U.S.A.
Could we have a quick video on where the positive and negative battery terminal locations are in the engine compartment of your TRD PRO? The positive is easy enough to find in the fuse box on the left, but the nagative.....harder to find under the engine cover, somewhere. The instruction manual isn't great.
Does the adaptive suspension option on the GX work well? Is it worth getting? Also, the jump up to "Luxury" for the GX is almost $10,000! Is it worth it? My problem is, looking around, no one wants to sell the 2023 GX460 for Monroney. Whereas, jumping categories, several dealers have IS500 in stock selling at sticker (no ADM.) Thanks for your videos, they are very helpful. While I could afford an LX, the GX will be much easier to "sell" my wife on :-) :-)
Depend if youre going to lift and do suspensions upgrades. Air rides is also know to be a problematic. I spend the extra $10K to do more mods on the GX and get a way better use and ride.
I'm curious if there is any talk of the 2024 GX having a power lift gate? The lack of that is the only thing that has kept me from buying it. I instead went with the RX 350L, but the third row is horribly small.

I’ve just taken a 2023 base GX. I truly loved it. I am thinking ordering a fully loaded one before the V8 is gone and keep it for long time.
Go for it!
GX all the way. Love them....hopefully grill design goes back to more traditional
Matt! I have a 2003 and a 2009 GX. I’m getting a 2022GX, but today I looked at my 2003 and I agree, I like that grill so much more!
The GX is a solid well made vehicle and for the money it’s a great value. Thanks for this interesting comparison.
I've owned 2 GX models and I loved them both! I'm looking forward to driving the 2024 GX! 💪🏾💪🏾💯
You must have made this review for me, I have the new lx 600 and I love it so much. I also have a 2012 gx I love it too
I believe that the current LX will undergo a number of refinements/revisions in the coming years as there are too many issues in the current vehicle - along with ones you mention in the video I’ve read that the Mark Levinson is sub par as well. Meanwhile, the GX really is excellent for what it is - given the huge price difference I can’t see how going with the LX makes any sense right now
What issues exist with the new LX?
Which we had this kind of awareness about cars years ago ... Thanks 👨! 👍
Thumbs up to you and thank you for another informative video David!
Great video as always. Very informative. Thank you!
@@ruggedland All good points
You just answered my question thank you David.
I love your videos! You explain things so well and show so much enthusiasm while do so. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
For is who can't afford a new one, please do a video with the best models to look for. Thanks
I have a GX and absolutely love it!
Thank you Sensei, I love your work. For me GX all the way.
Glad you enjoy it!
I have a 2016 GX, my son is buying the 2023 model. He is eagerly waiting for it
Even though it's your first ..but you have a great job . Keep it up
Pay attention to the Toyota LC Prado. If its exterior is resigned, then you can bet the GX will be redesigned as well.
Thank you for your demonstration of these two suv , I am going to buy GX I like the way it looks and I like the bigger engine V8.
Glad I could help
here in the US
WE WANT V8S
Real talk, thanks for keeping it real, Lexus is number one.
I have one hundred reasons to buy LX but just don’t have the money 😅
What advantages do you prefer in the LX over the GX?
@@zhamed9587 MPG, Styling, Road Presence, Cool Factor, Exclusivity, integration of 3rd row into the floor without 3 inch step like the GX, being a real deal LC with Lexus badge
Thanks for the commentary! Really appreciate it! =)
Great video David. You say Tahara factory is best in world, but Better than Motomachi, where Crown, Century and Lexus LC are made?
Thanks so much. I loved the Prado overseas so hoping to get a used GX.
Do you have any advice for value shoppers looking for used GX models? Would you consider a good condition GX470 or only 460?
Another difference is the screen. Even thought GX has smaller one, everything is combined and practical. While LX has dual screen, plus new turbo engine which is yet to prove itself. LX 2022 is the new guy in town and everybody is sceptical about him😁
I love the LX regardless which model year. GX is one great SUV but LX is the ultimate
Huhhhh
Great info David! The luxury LX is a vehicle I would save my money for a decent down payment. A long-term keeper.
Great video David. Anyone spending $100K on a vehicle really is not very concerned about fuel economy.
Thanks for the video. Do you know of any dealers in Ontario still taking orders for 2023 model year?
Great video, I'm thinking of trading in my 2018 Toyota 4Runner Off Road for the 2023 Lexus GX
Even as a younger buyer I prefer less technology. GX is a no brained for me.
Nice video David, lot of information.
Hi Dave another good vid, I love my GX460
Buy the GX and get on the list for the LX at some point, let them work out the kinks on the LX. I think that’s what I’m going to do.
The GX is the best Lexus model and sums it all, and so was the GS
Love GX...gonna get a new one
excellent review
Hello ! Chao
Your explanation abt lx and gx is excellent but again my question is why japan not make right hand drive in gx and 4runner ?
I am living in Karachi-Pakistan.
Everytime I asked in japan broker to search 4runner or gx but he said left-hand for Europe and U.S.A.
I'll take the Lexus GX, thank you.
Could we have a quick video on where the positive and negative battery terminal locations are in the engine compartment of your TRD PRO? The positive is easy enough to find in the fuse box on the left, but the nagative.....harder to find under the engine cover, somewhere. The instruction manual isn't great.
So 4Runner is GX’s twins I guess. If you can not afford to buy gx/lx better go with 4Runner I guess. Am I right David.
GX460 is a Landcruiser Prado. 4runner is also a Prado technically l but with alot of features removed.
More like distant cousin
Coming here after engine recall on LX
I'm curious if there is any talk of the 2024 GX having a power lift gate? The lack of that is the only thing that has kept me from buying it. I instead went with the RX 350L, but the third row is horribly small.
Nice! Is Premium fuel required in LX like in GX?
Please please change the grills on the front of the Toyotas & Lexus
Does the new GX have an electric cooling fan or a belt driven, standard Toyota/Lexus cooling fan?
I love the LX but I don’t love current gas prices. 😂
This video makes me want to buy an LX570 instead of either of them.
Wait for the Prado regular fuel
