Hey Joe, UA-cam must be doing something right, because all of a sudden it started to suggest your videos. 👍
I would also like to send a shout out to your cameraman. I don't know how many people have complimented him, but please do let him know he's great. (No shakes, no blurry images, he moves smoothly with you, he knows when to zoom in and out...You two just make an awesome team). Cheers!
Thanks for saying that! I really appreciate you giving a shoutout to my cameraman. We really can't do it without your support!

Motor Week published their (mini) review of this new Highlander only today. Raiti's Ride always ahead... while still delivering daily like fresh bread. How that's possible is becoming one of life's mysteries. Happy holidays John... I mean, Joe & Co ;)
Hello my friend! Thanks for your kind words and awesome support! I appreciate you always tuning it. I totally got your joke with the "JOHN." Merry Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Thank you toyota for not opting in for garbage like CVT. Please keep the gear knob no switches please.
I totally agree with you!
They ARE using a CVT for their electric car though
@Ackj 375718 any significant distinction in terms of performance??
You're ignorant sorry, cvt is the most efficient and reliable period.
Preach. Those gear buttons are annoying AF.
I judged this wrong before seeing in person and driving it. I got super lucky to see one of these at Enterprise and rented for a week! I love the way it drives and feels. I even got a comment on it in a drive-thru. I will say that the wireless charging makes my phone get very very very hot...I just stick to USBC
Great reviews - very upbeat, good detail. Toyota is doing a great job updating the technology and infotainment. I'm hoping there will be an update to the 4Runner to bring it into the current decade.
Hey there, you finally got the Highlander!! I drove the 2019 & actually thought the seats felt small & the ride was very stiff. Just wondered how you felt about that but going to drive this one soon anyway. Great review ❤😊
Hi Gina! Let me know how it turns out!
This channel's reviews give me the info to go shop cars and be informed when I do. Thanks Raiti!
I really appreciate you saying that!
Nice vehicle but I’m still not sure if I like the bulging design over the rear wheels. This looks like a stretched RAV4.
Nice job Joe!👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I totally get where you are coming from Larry!
Actually it's less noticeable in the strong red Ruby Pearl Flare color...which is why I've ordered the XLE in that color. But everything else hits the spot for me! I did test drive the RAV4, which I thought was mechanically miserable. No CVT transmissions for me. The interior was dreadful too...all black & no comparison to the upscale feel of Highlander.
Looks better with larger wheels but I like the overall design, it stands out.
I still think the 2019 front looks more aggressive. The front on the 2020 looks similar to the boring look the 2014-2016 Highlander had. I’m pretty sure they are going to give the front a more aggressive look like the 2017-2019 Highlanders when they refresh the design in 3 years.
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
Got to agree with you. But the rest is a good update. Very comfortable SUV. Still rather have a Japanese made 4runner. Got to support body on frame SUV's. They are a dying breed.
Less stuff, less stuff to fix.
Vent and heated seats, struts hood holder, and no paddle shifters and no weak CVT that breaks at 150k miles. This saves u thousands on useless parts. I am impressed with the drivetrain coupler disconnect to save you gas! Rally cars and The Hoonigan race car has this for performance driving. It is nice to hear it’s used for MPG’s now! Very cool! I’m trading in my 2006 Highlander 250k miled for one of these. Great Review 🤣👍
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective!
Thank you. This is the ONLY review ( as of today 12/18/19) that features the midrange V6 XLE model which most people would buy.Other reviews are featuring the Hybrid which is not even going to be available until Feb2020.

Disagree. Outdated.

This one looks fat and bloated. The previous was lean and streamlined.
Thx for your input.
No one cares.
I'm getting 38mpg at 65mph.
Everyone cares
Aqua God
Pretty sure people will care when it comes time to sell it one day, since it’s resale value won’t be as high as the old body style. 😂
I'm thinking totally opposite.. it's a very subjective metter anyway...
that button you mention was for cleaning your back up camera? The one that looks like a windshield with a wiper and squiggly line going through it is actually a wiper defroster, there is an element under both wipers heats up to de-ice your wipers.
Very beautiful car. Can't describe whether its aggressive on outside or not but so neutral and beautiful. We love new looks which is what redesign is all about folks.

Analog tachometer & speedometer, fingerprint-phobic heaven, naturally aspirated v6, NO CVT .... EPIC...phone wireless charging location is questionable though, more plastic to get to the third row seat is smart. It has a lot to offer for that price. Maybe I'm wrong. The same time Toyota stopped manufacturing Camry Station Wagons, started manufacturing highlander.
Similar Honda stopped Civic Station wagon 4WD started CRV 🤔.
What you think?.
My favorite Toyota SUV! Good review Joe.
Great video! What's your thoughts on the new Highlander vs telluride? I like the telluride but it's new so can't really tell how it's gonna last in the long run and you usually can't go wrong with Toyota for dependability
Thanks Mike! I think in the end I am going Telluride. I can understand your concern about reliability. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Being superstitious I can't get pass the name KIA... Killed In Automobile😱😱😱😱. Sorry.
Kia comes with legendary 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. Toyota comes with junk warranty of only 5 years.
Just bought this model today in the ruby red, it is stunning. $4,000 off MRSP hard to beat for that price! Traded in a 2015 Highlander Platinum and was very happy with the resale value. went for another Platinum and just couldn't get past the value for the $$ on the XLE.

Thank you for great reviews!!! Always fair and balanced! You approach the review like the average consumer would. We are looking at a new SUV, and our list includes the Palisade, Highlander, CX9, Passport and Pilot. Any thoughts on other we should drive and consider?
I would go Palisade all day long! Thanks for letting me share this with you and I really appreciate your compliments!
Thanks for the reply! Palisade or Telluride?
Unfortunately as a former owner i2014 Highlander limited, these are the flaws that Toyota has never addressed
1). They keep designing very ugly cars with hideous grills, Highlander, 4Runner that looks like Alien from the movie Predator without the Helmet or Chicken wires in Lexus. PLEASE HIRE STEAL Designers from Volvo.
2) Seats are the least comfortable of any Japanese cars. I could never drive more than 4 hour straight on my limited without getting a backache. Again, take a note from Volvo where I can drive 8 hours with no pain.
3) Sizes are getting bigger for no reason but prices going even higher. In my opinion, the original 2007 were the best size. 3rd rows were useless. You need bigger car move to different model. You should not be paying $50k for a Toyota. Buy a 2017 Volvo XC60 for $20k instead, more luxury and extremely solid and safe.
It would not make any sense to pay that amount for this car. Yes I know reliability factor but you are compromising safety. Save yourself $30k.
Thanks for sharing that great ownership input!
ZZ The RAV4 is now the same size and price as the 1st Gen Highlander. Just buy the RAV4. I just drove my 19 RAV4 from Southwest Florida to Northern Virginia in one day. I was comfortable the entire time.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q Well Brian, I am no sure how old you are but at 48, I need a comfortable chair with solid back support. I also need a safe car as I see many accidents with people texting, being on the phone or just driving fast. The 2019 RAV4 also passes the $30k mark. Have you test drived a 2014 to 2017 Volvo XC 60. It's very solid and safe. I bought a 3.2 liter engine (non turbo) and it's still very fast and you can drive it at 90 miles an hour and you don't even feel it.
ZZ The running costs are too high. The RAV is much easier on gas and it uses 87. Maintenance costs are dirt cheap (free initially). I only paid 25.7k for my LE AWD out the door.
I test drove one and they’re so smooth on the highways as well as through town.
Nice job getting this one done so soon after launch, Joe. It's on our short-list, along with the Honda Passport, Ford Edge and Explorer, and Hyudai Palisade. We don't need 3-row 95% of the time, so are looking at both 2- and 3-row options. We have a 2012 Edge now and it's been a good car for the most part, so this is not going to be easy. Your reviews are very helpful!
Thanks for saying that Ed! You have a good group of vehicles to choose from but it will not be easy! Let me know if there anything that I can review for you.
This design is WAY better than all the previous Highlander’s. It doesn’t have a bland or poor design for once. That just me though.
Like your reviews. like you said, the 3rd is not meant for a 6 ft tall person. Would you be able to have a smaller person to try it out so we have better ideas how practical it is. Thanks
Yeap nobody wants to be Hangry so please stock your vehicles properly people! 😂 Great review like always Joe 👍🏼
I appreciate you letting me share this one with you!
this looks nice, it will probably be another hit for them. I have a 2019 Rav4 and kind of agree looks a little bit like a "stretched" Rav4 (or is the Rav4 now a condensed Highlander????)

No lift on the power passenger seat still?? Went to look at one today and the front passenger seat is terrible. Even on the limited it won't go up and down. How can Toyota mess that up again! Dealer said not available any trim level. Need to stick with Acura or Lexus I guess and I so wanted this car. Wife at 5 2 can't see over Hood in the front passenger seat. Sigh.

The BEST CAR REVIEW IVE EVER SEEN
Great detailed review. I’ve been waiting for the 2020 Highlander to come out before making a decision on my next car. Im torn. The exterior styling is ok, the grill is boring as we see the wings return from 2015 Highlander. The over all style looks like a larger Rav 4. Toyota eliminated the opening tailgate window which was convenient. The interior is very nice but the interior of the Tulluride and Palisades is gorgeous. Toyota has the reliability and I have been a loyal Lexus owner. I’m going to have to wait and see it in person.
Thanks for your compliment and for sharing your great points!
I love the reviews, but I subscribed for the Twinkie’s and Snickers
Thanks for being so supportive and awesome Salina.
Thanks again Joe for the best reviews ever. I’ve noticed you’ve stated you liked the telluride better. My question for you is if it was your money would you still choose the telluride even against the Toyota reliability? I really love the telluride but I’m not sure how much I should trust the Kia reliability. Help me out Joe
Go with Toyota! Youll never regret having a vehicle thats reliable. I just bought this exact highlander and while my only complaint would be the 3rd row could be a bit roomier. Its great! Drives so sweet.

Hi Joe. Good overall review video of the new 2020 Toyota Highlander. Most car buyers will get this XLE trim level. It's quite obvious a select few to some buyers will flock to the higher trim levels mainly for features, but for the most part this middle XLE trim level some to most buyers will get. It's agreeable Toyota did a good job with the exterior design schematics for this new 4th generation Highlander. I'm glad they got rid of the Gillette razor style grille. It made the front end from the outgoing generation Highlander have the protruding effect. This time the front end is more intact with this new generation Highlander. The new hood design actually serves for two purposes. Besides giving the vehicle a bolder/rugged stance, another purpose is to help keep the vehicle a little more planted to the ground while driving. I assume they got that idea from Jeep and couple other manufacturers. The side profile of this new generation Highlander is good. A little more stylish now. As for the back end of the vehicle it's good. A little more sleeker/seamless design. What Toyota should've done to give the back end more pop/cherry on top/icing on the cake would be to have "exposed" dual exhaust tips. They need to do away with this single tip exhaust that's been around since the 1st generation Highlander. The rival competitors have their dual exhaust tips exposed and Toyota should've followed through to keep the trend moving. Maybe during a mid cycle refresh of this new generation Highlander Toyota will do this, but let's see what happens when the time comes. If they don't during a mid cycle refresh of this generation Highlander, maybe the next generation 5th generation Highlander will have exposed dual tip exhaust. In general the exposed dual exhaust tips makes the vehicle more stylish as and gives it a bolder/rugged stance. At the 18:35 time mark of this video while you were driving you said the performance numbers are not out yet. Well, they are out. You actually mentioned the performance numbers few minutes into this video at the
5:32 time mark. Those numbers mentioned in this video were 295 for the horsepower and 263 for the pound feet of torque. Those numbers are not bad, but unfortunately they're the same like the outgoing generation Highlander with the V6 engine. They should've done a slight increase for the horsepower to between 300 to 310. Hopefully in the coming years when the 5th generation arrives they'll probably increase the horsepower to between 320 to 330 and have the torque numbers between 300 to 305. Let's see what happens when the time comes.
I just drove one today and your review was spot on.

Great question!
Does it have daytime running lights?
Been waiting for this review for a while
Joe,
I like it, but the front looks like an ascent. I am in the market for a 3row suv. I’m looking at all of them. The issue is the price you can buy them at, not msrp. Right now you can get an xlt Explorer with the 202a for $9k under msrp. Hyundai is offering about $1k off, same with Kia. I don’t like the ascent, Durango is too outdated. And I fee the CX9 gauge cluster it terrible. Not a fan of VW, past experience. So, if I have $37k max to spend and need a leatherette type seat, awd, and want 2nd capt chair, is the explorer the best way to go?
I am going Telluride.
Raiti's Rides Joe, I just drove the Palisade and the telluride. They both drive better than the explorer. However, for the actual price you pay, they don’t compare. If the Palisade was the same price as what you can get the same optioned explorer for, I would the Palisade, but it’s thousands more. The Kia is underwhelming to be honest. It’s 20’, I need a large digital guage cluster for over $40k.
I would like to see the back-up camera washer feature in action....... Looked like the window wiper defroster button... But hey you made the video so you should know what you are talking about....
I will put that together for you!
Toyota sienna vs Chrysler Pacifica? Which would you purchase? Why?
are the 2019's being discounted enough to warrant getting a 19' over a 20'?
Yes they are!
I’d wait. Once the 19s are gone the 20s will get discounted. The Chassis on the 19 has roots back to 2006.
Great review been waiting for this forever.
does the screen has any glare??
No. I just bought this exact one. Its great!
Thank you for your review!
I bought the 2019 Highlander hybrid platinum in blizzard pearl white and gray interior. It's a very nice suv. Some of reasons my wife and I bought this year is the price was very good. The Highlander is nice to drive and we like the interior and the safety features. There was not much information about the 2020 Highlander back in September. This video is very informative. I knew the front grill was going to change in 2020 which I don't admire. I love the 2019 chrome grill.
Im going for this one than the cx-90 that you reviewed.

more room in the back with the 3rd row up than the 2012 highlander it looks like. thinking about getting the 2020 highlander my 2012 got hail damage and i got a 12,000 dollar settlement. already paid off so that's going towards my 2020.
Hi Joe,
I noticed you didn’t mention the button on the boot that opens the glass hatch without having to open the boot itself.. Have Toyota got rid of this feature in the 2020? Personally I love this feature!
Thanks for the info Goran. I appreciate you having my back.
Toyota has done a credible job of updating the long-in-the-tooth Highlander for 2020. And for those for whom fuel economy is a paramount priority the hybrid version is a singular choice. A complete evaluation will have to await reviewers having more than a short drive in the Texas Hill Country but the 2020 version no longer appears to be outclassed by much of the competition. A couple of "zonks," though.
First, Toyota continues to claim the Highlander seats up to eight passengers (with the second row bench seat.) Sorry, but putting three seat belts and head restraints in the third row doesn't make it a three person third row. In fact, there's less room in the third row for two passengers than several competitors. In the past the Highlander was one of the smaller midsize three row crossovers. For 2020 the length has been extended by about 2.5 inches. Unfortunately, that hasn't improved passenger or cargo room significantly. It's still a five or six passenger vehicle.
Second, the placement of the wireless charging pad in the center console is an odd choice. Try placing a phone on the wireless charger and then try to access the console storage without first removing the phone. Otherwise, raising the raising charging pad means dumping the phone sitting on it.
You are spot on the money!
