2020 Toyota Highlander XLE Review & Drive (With Trim Level Comparisons)

  • The 2020 Highlander gets redesigned for this year but it still has everything that's made the Highlander a family friendly 3 row SUV. This Highlander XLE sits in the middle of the lineup but I cover what features the other trims get like the L, LE, XLE, Limited, and top end Highlander Platinum. The 2020 Toyota Highlander competes with several others in this competitive class and it places itself right in the thick of things with this redesign. Hopefully I can grab one of these for a week to get a better feel for it and a Highlander Hybrid for another review and night review.
    A special thanks to Sport City Toyota in Dallas for letting me show you the Redesigned 2020 Highlander XLE.

    *I forgot to mention - the rear glass doesn’t lift up like last generation* ☹️. I will try to get a Highlander for a week so I can make a night video and give you better impressions.
    What trim level would you like and gas or hybrid?
    *Thanks for watching and have an awesome day! 👍*

    Just got one for my family $42k for 2020 highlander xle hybrid blizzard white peal black interior weather mats car tinted from Toyota dealerships msrp was 47k we love it so far averaging 34.5 mpg driving it normally not being cautious. Back 3rd row is not as bad as they make it seem if your 5’8 or less you can fit fine back there you may have to adjust seats but works for us it’s just an emergency ride for occasional friends and fam. Car is responsive. Pricy but noting can pay for peace of mind knowing my wife and 2 kids are in best in class safe car. I highly recommend it we looked at the teluride and Lexus rx350L. We feel like we made the right choice. Stay safe people much love !!

    It’s hard to beat a Highlander. It just seems to do everything well. I like the new design (especially the new XRS) and the interior looks good. I bet the new Hybrid will be impressive. Looking forward to go getting a hold of one of those. My sister recently purchased a previous generation Blizzard Pearl XLE. She loves it. It does everything she needs it to for her family. The best part is that it will surely be reliable and you can’t beat the resale value.

    Yes, the side design makes it look like a van, the windshield does look narrow to a degree, and I love the air vents on the ceiling. It looks more solid than previous versions, but still plain. Did the dealership tint the windows? Excellent review & Thank you Nolan!!

    I definitely like the redesign of this suv. I can kinda see some styling ques around the sides that mimic the Nissan/Infinity QX80. However, I can't help but feel a little jipped that you can get a power passenger seat in the Higlander and but not the Rav. Never the less, it's definitely one for the shopping list. Great review as always.

      22Kevi Rav 4 is a compact crossover as you know and I’m not aware of any mainstream compact crossover that has a power passenger seat until you get into the Acura Lexus Volvo and so on. I have the top trim VW Tiguan and I still don’t have a power passenger seat and it’s a compact but feels more like a mid size crossover.

    Hello Nolan. 37 degrees in Texas? Here in the NE we had 40’s today. It’s been a rainy winter so far. I am not a fan of the rear honch either. What do you think of the G80 Genesis ? The ones equipped with 3 rows of seating have you seen you have to climb over the folded down rear seat to get in the 3rd row. I never seen anything like that ever. Especially on a Luxury Model. Climb over the rear seat hmm. Check it out. Great Review as Always. ;)

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  4 роки тому +3

      Great choices! I don’t think you could go wrong either way. The Telluride IMO is a better value from a features standpoint. It also has more space inside, especially if you plan to use the 3rd row.
      The Highlander really improved for this 2020 model and I’m sure although it will probably cost more (at least MSRP) it will hold its value better.
      We have an ‘04 highlander that’s still running great and with the reputation of the Highlander reliability it would be hard to turn me away, even though I really like the Telluride. Drive each one and see if you can take each one home for a night and you’ll probably feel better with one 👍

  • @gregreed402
    @gregreed402 3 роки тому

    Yes you’re right you do seem to be confined in the driver seat, visibility is not very clear , compared to a normal older vehicles the peripheral vision is limited , remember the blinkers they put on horses now I know how they felt. The way the roof comes down and the rear vision mirror and shaded area around the mirror makes like tunnel vision . Vision is narrowing quite cramped I’ve been driving a Subaru outback and the all around visibility is much better than that in the Toyota Highlander.
    A motor vehicle is taking the driver and his passages on an adventure. Absorbing and looking out from with in a vehicle is very crucial to in joying the scenery and ride. That mirror drops way to down in the windscreen now you’ve mentioned it.
    The sensors should be made thin and sleek along the top of windscreen and the mirror kept up as high as possible

    @carlauditts8514 3 роки тому +1

    Great review. You cover most details. Specially when you seat in 2nd row & 3rd row and talk about the infotainment screen.
    I have a question: would you prefer a 2020 forester over 2020 Highlander hybrid XLE ? I never own a Toyota brand car and I’m planning to trade in my 2018 forester XT for a 2021 forester limited / touring. I’m in love with forester Subaru and I have no doubt and I won’t think about it twice to get the forester. I have own 2 forester since 2015. BUT I have doubts about Toyota brand. Looks poor quality for me. I feel that I can get more value / features from Subaru than Toyota. I don’t want to regret/ hate everyday if I get the Highlander hybrid. I’m considering Highlander hybrid just for the hybrid option and bigger than forester but it’s very expensive and my biggest dislikes is the interior space on 3rd row seat and road noises , poor quality camera resolution. Toyota quality is old school. Subaru more fresh updated and stylish modern.
    Any suggestions?

      Probably a minivan, those are so spacious and practical lol. Remove or fold the 2nd row into the floor for tons of space...but if it’s an SUV probably the Telluride or Palisade because of the combo of features and space for the price. I like the Highlander, and we own an older 2004 Highlander, but it’s not as spacious as most competitors especially in the 3rd row and behind 3rd row. Buying one long term, is probably go for the Highlander though if it’s enough space for you and the girls

    • @rugbyrick
      @rugbyrick 3 роки тому +1

      @@PrimeAutotainment Yeah, (BTW fellow Dallasite)I was initially looking at the Compacts because I have a Rogue right now, but with the girls getting bigger and doing sports and as I coach Rugby and carry around equipment, maybe more as things move along, I have started looking at the third rows. And Highlander, Palisade and Telluride are at the top of my list.
      I'm just concerned about the longterm integrity of the Kia and Palisade, but maybe it's worth the risk. Everyone is lauding them.

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  3 роки тому

      Richard Collins nice! I definitely understand what you mean. I’m nervous about their longevity as well, even though they have a great warranty. I really don’t think you can go wrong with the Highlander. I got to drive it for a week I like this very short term time like this video and it had some jerkiness in the transmission (which I’ve heard about) but I’ve also seen people get “reprogramming” or some software adjustment that helped. Not sure if it would actually be a reliability issue, or just a drive ability thing. I’d still go for the Highlander with reliability considered
