  • Kinesthetic Learners Study Tips THAT WORK!
    There are 4 types of learners (kinesthetic, verbal, visual, and auditory). If you have kinesthetic intelligence or you’re a kinesthetic learner or wish to better understand someone who is, this video is for you! If you are a kinesthetic learner, you are a hands on learner, otherwise known as a tactile learner. You enjoy being active and have trouble sitting still in a classroom for long periods of time. You enjoy building, tinkering, experimenting, and playing.
    I will give you 8 study tips to help you learn more effectively! This video also contains kinesthetic activities, kinesthetic communication, and test study tips to help you remember more of what you study for your tests!

    1. Use Note Cards because they give you something physical to hold and study
    2. Take Active Breaks - Get up and move around or do some physical activity
    3. Relate what you're learning to real life experiences, we prefer concrete evidence or real life examples
    4. Study with others
    5. Keep Hands or feet busy while studying
    6. Be active while studying eg study while doing cardio at the gym or on a walk or chew gum while studying
    7. Teach what you've learnt
    8. Act or Trace our shapes

    I’m a former ‘gifted’ student who was never taught how to study and the different learning styles. Due to my disability it’s hard to learn how to study unless those answers were given directly to me. I relied on memory alone during school. I’m going back to study since I didn’t do well at university and hopefully this will help me. I’m a primary kinaesthetic learner and a secondary visual learner.

    • @SharpCookie
      @SharpCookie  4 роки тому +26

      Yes, I can completely relate. Most of us were never taught how to study, and it really impacted how we did in school. Be sure to also check out the visual learner video, so you can combine both styles. Good luck with your studies!!

      I’m a now cognitive neuroscientist and a former audio engineer I can tell you right now you’re on the right path and don’t lose faith. I was a gifted student too and not put in the right programs and had a major affect on my reality. It sucks but we have to adapt. You are brilliant. Even posting this you are bold. KEEP GOING. I PROMISE YOU MORE THERE IS MORE. I’m also designing a clothing line specific to kinesthetic learners. This “disability” has taken me to heights most humans can never experience. Embrace your oddities. I love you. -Lucy

      Exactly!! Trying to bring more awareness to this. Even as adults we still need to learn new information, and it helps to know how we learn best. Using a balance board with students, especially the younger ones was a game changer.

      You're so welcome!! You sound like a wonderful parent who is doing everything you can! The most important thing you can do now is talk to him about kinesthetic learning. Use that language and explain to him what it means. You can even have him watch the video with you. It's amazing how much progress can be made when kids start to understand themselves on a deeper level, and they have words to describe it or even google it on their own and learn more about it. Self awareness is so critical. You can even explain to him the other types of learning so that he has a greater appreciation for how different people absorb information in different ways.

    I keep denying that I'm a kinesthetic learner because public school literally gives us no chance at using our learning style. Then I realize that my best playing test in band I practiced while I was pacing and not looking at the music. My best psychology test I've taken had an experiement done to illustrate one of the vocabulary words for that unit. I learn pretty effectively by reading a textbook, but it's always better when I apply it.

    We had to watch this for school and i just came here to say you called me OUT. Like I saw the option and googled it and went "oh yeah that kinda sounds like me." And then you came for my neck with the fidgeting bit lmao. You brought that up while i was twirling a pen through my fingers and I just sat there like 0-0. I really appreciate the study tips. Most of these could be because I have adhd but I'm sure it works both ways.

      Haha this made me laugh!! I love when viewers resonate with what I'm saying. Yes, there is some overlap between adhd and kinesthetic learners because they share some of the same traits. Let me know how you do with the study tips!

    I am 23 years doing absolutely nothing wid my life and hardly struggling in academics. Two days back i got to know my learning style. I used to take notes but my mom said its time consuming. So i stopped taking it but....i never felt satisfied. Im amazed that how can my mom don't understand me and instead said "Im crazy" when i told her imma kinesthetic learner, i learn things by writing. 🙃

    This video is really beneficial to me. Actually, I'm in the process of searching for my intelligence. I already heard about visual-spatial and linguistic verbal intelligence, I'm good in that both but not excellent and now I think, I am similar to kinesthetic intelligence. So from now onwards I am gonna practise the tips that you apprised. Thank you

    I really liked the video and found it very useful. I was always a kinesthetic learner but was given much opportunities owing to traditional means of learning. Hence, I always fell short in academics. Wish I would have stumbled upon this video sooner . Now i am a 25 yr adult and realized this due to experience. Ive lost my ability to memorize and retain information since i have lost touch with learning for over 10 years. I need to start learning to skill up for my career and i am finding it difficult now. It would be great if you could share a few tips.

      Hi! You're not alone. Most people I talk to didn't discover their learning style until later in life. There are a lot of tips in the video---I would encourage you to experiment with trying different techniques that I talk about and see which ones work best for you. I also offer coaching if that's ever something you're interested in where I work one-on-one with clients to help them become better learners.

    I just found out I'm a kinesthetic learner. But I already do some of these things. I also write notes on my arm and design them like tattoos while studying, I also write tiny notes on the walls so whenever I get to that part of the house, I read it and remember. But thanks for the vid❤

      My son sounds like a kinesthetic learner. However, he is ADHD, is there a connection?

    • @SharpCookie
      @SharpCookie  4 роки тому +3

      @@tkdelacruz Hi, That's a really excellent question. I might do a video on that eventually because it's not a simple answer, and I think a lot of parents are wondering about this. Kinesthetic learning behaviors can often mimic ADHD symptoms. I was reading that it's estimated that almost 1million children are misdiagnosed with ADHD when they're actually just kinesthtic learners because the behaviors can look so similar. Someone with ADHD may be a kinesthetic learner as well or they may be another learning style. The main question you want to ask yourself is, "When have I observed my son learning most effectively? When is he the most focused?" If he is the most focused when he is tinkering with something like taking apart electronics or building things, he's probably kinesthetic. There's a difference between tinkering around with something because you want to learn how it works or because you want to build or create something versus mindless tinkering just to fidget. If he's most focused when his visual senses are stimulated by images, photographs, art, books, collages, drawings, etc, then he's probably a visual learner. If he's most focused when listening to music or an audio book or someone telling a story, then he is probably auditory. If he is most focused when he's talking and having a discussion and expressing his ideas, he is probably verbal. Watching some of my videos on the other learning styles should help as well. And yes, many of the tips I talk about in this video will also work for ADHD kids regardless of whether they're kinesthetic. Especially the tip about using a balance board / stress ball / fidget spinner / chewing gum when studying. When I tutor ADHD kids I let them move while we work together. So they might stand the whole session or sit on the floor or toss a ball the whole time or have their feet on the balance board while sitting in a chair. Hope this helps!

      Maths is especially hard and it gets worst with advanced maths, only in my 30s now that I learnt the learning techniques. 1 solution is to seek out practical examples to complex concepts like calculus, and good teachers that can use simple, practical examples explained in a logical progression on UA-cam. On my own, I tend to visualize the formulae and put them through examples visually (like virtual reality goggles).

    I now see why some kids are the way they are.I've been teaching kids since forever an nw finally decided to make it a career at 45.Parents seem to think I hve alot of patience wth children so hence the reason I think I'll do a better job at understanding the different types of learners thxs much!

    HEY!! So to my fellow Kinaesthetic learners who want or need to keep things digital. If you have the privilege to and can afford To get one , use an iPad and stylus and invest in a note taking app like good notes (or procreate if you already have it) . And I would also use Feyn , which is a handwritten flash cards app , with an touchscreen writing style!! It’s so much better than just typing stuff out :)
