- Auditory Learner Study Tips THAT WORK!
What is auditory learning and what is an auditory learning style are questions many students, parents and teachers are exploring.
An auditory learner identifies a person who retains information best by hearing it. This learning style depends on a good memory for spoken information. Auditory learners make up about 30% of the population.
In this video I will identify characteristics of auditory learner strengths and learning styles. I will also present auditory learning study tips such as using audio recordings, repeating facts out loud and the benefits of working with a tutor among other auditory learner activities. The video wraps up with my top 10 study hacks and study tips for auditory learners!

If you just pay attention in class you don't need to study later but you should train your Auditory memory. That is how I always get 1st position
How to train your Auditory memory?
@tamluong9650 I talk about one strategy to train auditory memory in my other video…
ua-cam.com/video/Z5rMD9bEfeQ/v-deo.html
That goes fine with college or school exams but not with competitive exams
I noticed that this video normally doesn't use background music when the speaker is talking? I appreciate that, less distracting. But it also stands out because most YT videos utilize some background music.
Being an audio learner does make me good at music and acting! :3 Those are passions of mine and hobbies. I'm attuned to tone of voice too! Good at memorizing lists of things if I say things out loud to myself a lot when studying!
been learning about all the different learning styles from you, its all been great information. Thanks so much !
good tip I will use record self, close eyes and study buddy
Holy moly. As an artist I thought I was a visual learner but now I realize I’m an auditory learner. I can literally “bookmark” conversations with people.
You can be both
Thank you so much for your informative speech. I appreciate it🤩👍👍⭐💫
This is great! Thank you. I am definitely an audio learner although not just audio. Interestingly, I have experimented with several of these tips, easing out loud, closing eyes, using music in the background, conversation, and even rhythm and song. So this has been very validating.
Very cool! Love that you've tried a lot of these strategies... that's really the best way to find out what works best for you.
I am gonna try it out
Thanks ❤
Your tips are so helpful. I work in student success, and helping students understand their learning style is key to effective studying. You had some fresh tips that I hadn’t heard or thought of. Thank you!
Love that! Happy to hear you have some new tips to share with the students you work with 😁
Thank you so much for your tips! It’s very helpful!! ❤❤❤
You are so welcome!
Auditory learner✅ definitely resonates
its helps me a lot! God bless you
thank you much our teacher
I´m listening you talking about A.L on the background, while doing some tasks, thats why i love using auditory for learning :)
I watched your videos about the different kinds of learners and finally I could say that I'm auditory and kinesthetic learner 'cause I cannot concentrate on a lecture without reading out loud somehow I understand better in that way, as well as kinesthetic cause I rather learn by doing than just watching the explaining of something. I know that is not just about the approach that works best for us, is also about the type of content that is taught, is that right? Thank you 💕☺️ so much for your content 😊 my best wishes for your channel. Keep growing :).
Hi Charlie, thanks so much for watching! I'm not sure I understand your question, but I'll try to answer. The type of learner you are is mostly related to how you like to learn content and slightly related to the type of content you might be interested in (for example, visual learners might be more drawn to the visual arts versus a verbal learner who might be more drawn to literature). I hate to generalize too much because each of us is unique, but these videos are a good starting point for exploring further. Thanks so much for supporting the channel and please share with friends and family!
Yes, I am absolutely.
Thank you so much...
Thank you, this is cool. I work in a busy and engaging environment and whispering to myself will sharpen my focus and enhance my productivity!!!
Sweet! 👌
I mean what I do in my free time is mostly audio stuff (also art/visual and learning by doing things though too). I got up and remembered to vape weed in the basement in the laundry room because I remembered upon waking a conversation me and my wife had had the night before about where I should vape in the house, and it's her house, but also obviously I'd value her input on that either way. It's starting to get too cold to do that outside, which I used to do. I vaped while listening to my favorite Smash Mouth album, which I'm rediscovering and have not heard many of the songs in about 20 years, but I still remember exact details of how these songs go and I love singing along with them. Then, I listen to "new old" Smash Mouth, some stuff by them that I didn't listen to when it came out, it's spelunking for "B Sides", a thing I like to do a lot from artists I like. Last night, I was listening to The Sandman, which is one of my favorite audio books right now. I'm also visual though so I like to read manga. The list of books I've read this year is mostly either graphic novels/manga/comics or audio books. I feel less intelligent sometimes for not being as good at reading printed books anymore. It's like I used to be good, and then I 'leveled up' in other skills in art and audio processing? Haha...
Wow thats cool, janice sis😊👍
Thanks so much! 😉
You're brilliant thank you
Thank you for watching! :)
I am definitely the type who reads out loud and turn words into songs or even stories. What also helps is when I tell this song or story to someone else. However, I’m also very independent so a study buddy or tutor does not work well with me.
You know whats craziest i laughed out loud just like you that is is uncanning that i often remember peoplee voice if i wanted to. Ya thats crazy if you can here people's texts. But i didnt noticed it that i was 'hearing' texts until you said.
Wao so nice lecture 🥰am auditory learner 😍
I wonder if I'm an auditory learner, because I certainly learn best when listening to audiobooks and lectures and I'm able to remember different voices, movies scripts and exact things people told me or even a whole audiobook if I like it (I know The Little Prince and Pressures residential by Philip Hensher a word to word) - while I struggle to learn something from a textbook only.. but when it comes to instructions, I might remember them but have to write them down to understand them, if that makes sense? I'm not very well able to follow something without making points for myself out of something someone told me, even tho I might remember exactly what they said. It's like it doesn't make sense as long as it's only a "Voice message" in my head haha
That's so interesting! What a cool skill you have. Instructions are very different from a fictional story, so it makes sense you would need to use different strategies. When we're learning it's always important to re-interpret things using our own language, examples, and personal context. So you're doing exactly what you should be!
@@SharpCookie Thank you, haha Sometimes it's really difficult tho, as I remember many songs/speeches they get constantly stuck in my head, making it difficult to concentrate 🙈
Thank you, that makes sense! I recently found out I might be autistic, so I'm wondering if this "skill" and difficulty might be connected 🍀 Perhaps learning about my strengths and limitations could help me find even better strategies when it comes to both communication and learning 🤔✨
i think i'm a combination auditory and visual learner, i have traits of these two types
Yes
I'm an auditory learner. It takes me a long time to read non-audio books! Because without sub-vocalizing, I can't enjoy or understand whatever I'm reading. But that means I have to go slowly. I can "listen fast" though, to sped-up audiobooks and lectures, but I prefer to listen at normal speed for fiction and drama. Because in those the cadence of the speech seems more intentional?
In a YT video I was watching before this, the use of dramatic opera music as background music, I found it hella distracting because I've listened to and was familiar with that song. That's why if I can I like to study to background music that's instrumental but also doesn't have a recognizable "tune" like many classical works do for me. Tunes and words are both distracting to me, I mean. But also I can sit and do nothing and just focusing solely on the music. Or I like to get up and dance or walk around a lot.
Hi,im new here. wooow!you are too good me too im auditory and visual, but visual is way cool to me
I’m both visual and auditory
I had auditory from aphasia, Ma'am. I will still be going for this and me. Thank you of this, Ma'am.
I hope that I can be going in the law school.
Best of luck!
Thank you so much! I love learning, and have always had a passion for learning. Like how it works, and what not...
I have a class coming up for my local church where I'll be talking about simple tricks for simple studying, and wanted to brush up on these learning styles.... Extremely helpful info, and I thank you for it!
I'm not an audio learner at all. It's my weakest learning style .... So I'd say this video helped me so much so I can help our auditory friends :)
I'm so glad it helped! It's my weakest style as well ;)
Hi there, tell me something, I know I am an auditory learner but my eyes pick up faster, the best thing I like about being auditorial is when I remember the tone of voice
I also dought if i am in the middle of visual and auditory. Cz sometimes i feel like watching too for connecting the visual to the audio and strengthen memory.ot can happen as i am in the middle of the spectrum for almost everything. For example i am 75% introverted and the rest extroversion🤷🏽♀️. I often feel like i can go on with any method in a way or another
I thought an auditory learners can learn with using music or sounds, I cannot for the life of me concentrate without sweet sounds, such as nature sounds or LoFi Hip-Hop 📚📚📚.
am a visual learner, I see it and I remember I hear It and I forgot it right away.
I definitely think I am an auditory learner! but I'm going to listen to your other videos to see if others resonate with me. Have you got any tips for actually identifying what types of learners children > adolescents > young adults might be?
I'm definitely a mix between auditory and kinaesethic. Do you have any advice for teaching a group of people (15-20) whilst trying to balance these learning styles?
My best tip for identifying a learner of any age is just to observe them while they try to memorize something. Notice if they say it out loud or close their eyes, etc. Ask them what strategy they used for memorizing it. If they're older kids (12+) I would show them the videos or explain to them the descriptions and ask them which they relate to the most.
When teaching, just try to blend as many styles as you can. Always have a visual presentation to go with whatever you're explaining and try to incorporate a hands-on activity.
@@SharpCookie Thank you, that's really useful to know. I will give it a try!
Oh yeah I know a lot of things because of knowing an Epic Rap Battle of History or some such song about it. There's the Soviet Union to the tune of the Tetris song too and... what others am I missing maybe?
13:14 Hi Jeanette, My name is Dallas and I'm taking online courses for Business administration and I learned that I am an auditory learner and I also use both sides of my brain (analytic and global) do you have a video on an analytic and global.
Hi Dallas, I haven’t looked into global vs analytic learners specifically. There’s a lot of different paradigms around learning that have been developed, and I feel most of them overlap. It’s similar to how we have hundreds of different personality tests like enneagram, Myers’s Briggs, etc. They’re all slightly different but also the same if that makes sense.
How do you teach math concepts to an auditory learner?
Very interesting, I have a question tho. What's the difference between an auditory learners and verbal learners?
Hi, I also have a video on verbal learners, so be sure to check that out. But in general, verbal learners like to absorb information by talking about it. So they usually like group discussions or talking about the subject with a study partner. Auditory learners are listeners, so they like to absorb info by listening to a recording of a lecture for example. Talking vs listening is the main difference.
HOW TO IMPROVE MY AUDITORY MEMORY ? PLEAAASE I'M VERY WEAK AT THIS
Hi! I have become visually impaired. But I am very mch a visual learner. I am having a hard time concentrating on auditory books for instants. How do I train myself to become an auditory learner?
This is a great question! I'm also a visual learner, and I've never had an interest in audio books or podcasts. It's going to take some time to transition, since you're naturally used to absorbing information through visuals. One tip is to imagine in pictures what you're hearing. So as you're listening, imagine it happening in your mind like a movie. So even though your physical eyes aren't seeing anything, your mind is still connecting to visual input. Another tip is to experiment with when and how you listen to audio books. For me, I can listen in a car while I'm driving or when I'm traveling on a flight. But if I'm just sitting in my house, I get too distracted by other things and I tune out. My last tip is if you have a partner or friend who wants to listen to the same book, listen to it together. It'll help you to stay engaged and focused, and you have someone to discuss it with.
i relate with both auditory and visual learner. is that a thing?
Yup! Many of us a mix
👍⭐
Do you tutor individuals for the CLEP examination and I been wanting to complete this for years?
I haven't tutored anyone for the CLEP specifically, but I've tutored for other multiple choice standardized tests and the strategies are similar. What subject matter are you interested in taking?
@@SharpCookie I want to start out with the math first and it seems like I been trying to complete a degree at City College of San Francisco for a while!
Ok! I've tutored a lot of math. Email me if you'd like private tutoring on zoom.
@@SharpCookie Thank You and I'll let you know!
I wonder if my being a singer has anything to do with me being an auditory learner
It would make a lot of sense! You've spent many hours listening and understanding the nuances of sound.
Are the children who don't belong to any of those 4 types called reading and writing learner?
I'm auditory learner.
😁👋
can i be two learner??? im confused
I'm an auditory learner❤ but can i ask....is it possible to also be in another catagory maybe a visual learner as well
Yes!
I dont know why bit i am laughing oit loud that things you are saying 50% are me doing already and others scolding me for it.i doughted i am auditory when i realised that i am memorizing lyrics after almost 4 times hearing.and u know what my dad scolds me for two things
1-hearing to music while studiying
2-watching marathon study sessions in youtube(actually hearing. Now i get it why i put the phone aside wth vedio and wright down what i am hearing)

I also feel I am auditory learner except the name one . I can't remember names never even sometimes forgets my own.😂
😂😂
But I only remember song instead of studying
I wish i am auditory learner too coz i am terrible at memorising lyrics. Fortunately solitary still work best for me and makes me become book worm 😂
😂👍
Can you have 2 learning styles?
Yes! But usually we have a dominant one that we lean into most often.
Janice You are as beautiful as you are smart. If you were my teacher when I was in school you would have my f😮ull attention ❤ .
That's so sweet, thank you 🙏
I forget what i hear within a few seconds😢
