Day 1 Through 4 After Total Knee Replacement
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 лют 2024
- On February 14th 2024 I received the total knee replacement at Holland hospital. The doctor's name was Dr Johnson and was assisted with the Mako robot built by Stryker. This is a vlog that shows my experiences and yours may be different. Don't take any medical advice from these videos these are just what's happening with my knee and your results may be different. Before starting any exercises make sure to consult your physician.

Thank you for taking the time to create this video. It will be inspirational for my wife who will be getting a replacement Nov 2024.
Thank you. Your wife has lots of time to get prepared. That's fantastic. Stay positive she's got this.
Thank you for doing these videos I’m only on the 1st video though. I’m having my 2nd knee replacement in less than two weeks on the 18th of June. My 1st one was 11 yrs ago and it was with a two day stay in hospital now it’s done as an outpatient YIKES! Your videos are very encouraging. What kind of ice machine are you using? I have to either buy one or just use ice packs which is no big deal since I used ice packs the 1st time. My insurance isn’t covering an ice machine🙁. Thanks again!
TKR most horrible pain ever...11 days out and I feel Horrible...still swollen and pain lots of pain...I get to see the surgeon this Wednesday coming....bruises r now coming out ,can't sleep and hunger is gone...I only hope the Best to everyone...and yes we r all different..I'm one of the slow menders . Have a Beautiful Safe day.
I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you'll start turning the corner sooner rather than later.
I feel the same way and it sucks
@@shellychandler2040 sorry to hear that Shelly. Hopefully you will be on the mend shortly. After about 3 weeks it was like a switch was thrown and felt much better. Stay positive. You're through the worst of it.
Sounds exactly like me..all the same effects. I had mine on 4-22-2024 and I'm still in so much pain. The tourniquet pain is horrible
How can he be doing so well??
@@susanrobinson408 I had pain with a tourniquet was it felt like a couple of baseballs hit me
My husband is scheduled for total knee replacement surgery next Friday. I hope and pray he can recover as well as you.
Best of luck to your husband. Stay positive. Have a great weekend.
I've just went to the Doctor 4 weeks ago. With the news that I need a complete knee replacement. I'm scared to death about it. I'm glad I found your channel. It seems like it's not as bad as I think, but I'm a Sissy when it comes to pain.
I'm looking.
Forward to seeing your progress along the way. Thanks.
For putting this out because there's a lot of people that wonder about things and seem like you're answering a lot of the questions at least that I have. I was really shocked how well you're walking in the first 4 days. Thanks again. Ed.
Ed, at least you know and you can prepare for it. Movement and staying positive is the key. If you want to check it where I'm at now check out my latest video this past Wednesday. It's week 12. Thank you and best of luck. You've got this
I'm facing knee replacement surgery and that worries me a lot, but from your video it seems like it's not that scary.
Thank you and I hope you're getting better and better every day since the video was posted. 👍
Think again
Bless you!!! I needed this. And I hope lots of other people facing this surgery find it.
Thanks. Best of luck to you. You've got this.
You did so well, that’s awesome!!
Enjoy that new knee :)
@@britishgal1808-Sue it's life changing. Thank you.
Exercise lots for a month or more twice a day. I had no pain after and only took Tylenol. Driving in 12 days with the left and 15 days driving and walking around garage sales. Back to work within 3 weeks. Doctor said lots of exercise is the trick. Now no pain at all. I can walk and stand for hours.
@@charmayneschultz7681 that's fantastic. I talk about that as well. I exercised 400 straight days to get ready. It was no problem for me. Glad to hear you had that you had the same results. Life changing.
Congratulations on your knee replacement and your recovery. I should have mine next week; hopefully, my recovery is as easy as yours so far.
It's life changing. Best of luck to you. You've got this.
I had a tkr at 81...my first and wasted too much time being afraid before surgery.
No pain...just used tylenol for a week or 2, but wasnt in pain so quilt.
Be sure to do your therapy...mine went very well...i guess i was blessed with a great surgeon and easy surgery and recovery.
I get next knee done in the fall i hope...it is an amazing surgery.
Wow that's fantastic. I'm glad it went so well for you. I did the same thing before surgery. Best of luck. Thank you for your comment. I hope others will see it.
This is encouraging and very helpful. I am going in for total knee replacement in about 3 weeks. Thanks for posting. Hope your recovery is still going well. God bless.
Best of luck to you. You've got this and stay positive. It's been 6 months and it's life-changing for me.
Hey Jerry, glad to see your doing so well. I'm a 78-year-old woman and have been putting this off for too long. Been trying to research as much as I can on knee replacement because I'm going in on June 10 for total right knee replacement. I've been doing exercises to prep for the surgery just to help the healing afterwards. I hope I recover and heal quickly as you have.
stay healthy and wish me luck
Best of luck. I'm glad to hear you're exercising. I know it's difficult with the pain of your current situation but it sounds like you're on the right track. Stay positive and you've got this. You'll feel like a new person
you will be lucky like jerry because you are prepareing yourself way before your surgery. good luck to you
I just found your channel and thank you very much. I’m getting my L knee done very shortly.
You're welcome. Best of luck. You've got this.
You did amazing!! I was not as mobile as you.Recovery was slow going for me. Lots of pain and was very dependent on my husband. I guess it’s different for everybody.
Thank you. I hope you are coming well now. I'm not sure why I did so well. Have a great day.
@@BigelowWoodcraft I’m doing a lot better now! Thank you! I’ve went back to work but I took the 12 weeks off. Pain free now and totally worth what I went through.
Just make sure you exercise that Knee, thats the key to recovery ! Get well soon !
I'm moving it as much as the Dr directed me to. It really feels much better when you move it.
Thank you for doing this video! I have my total knee replacement on Tuesday! This helped alleviate some of my worst nightmares! Fingers crossed but thanks again!
The first couple of days are the worst and after that it gets better and better every single day you've got this. Stay positive. Any concerns or questions feel free to hit me up.
Thanks for these postings. I’m scheduled for my left knee in a month. I’m 76 and looking forward to getting back to a real life again. Your updates are good to take the mystery out of what to expect.
I'm glad it helps. You will feel like a new man in no time. I'm so pleased and it's not been 6 weeks yet. I feel much better than before the surgery. 💯 Percent
I.m goin in for knee replacement 27th June I.m 78 years old was worried about having this done but seeing your vidio makes me feel less anxious hopefully I.m able to do the same as you after 4 days .
Mine is 11years out. Never look back. You are doing great. Now I need my other knee done.
They've come so far since yours 11 years ago. When you get this next knee done it'll be amazing. Onwards.
I've had both knees total replaced and a shoulder. Best advice I can give is to do exactly what the doctor says and when you start physical therapy do exactly what they tell you. Yes, it's a slow process but if you listen and do what you're told it gets better quickly. I'm two years out from all three of my surgeries and I feel great. What a pleasure to be able to walk and bend down without pain, stiffness or any discomfort. Good bless
These words can't be stated enough. I'm glad that you're doing well, fantastic to hear. It's life changing. I've had both my hips replaced as well. I love the abilities that I have been given back as well.
thank you (from Australia) a help for me
You're welcome.
Hi Jerry. Thanks for your videos. I'm scheduled for bilateral knee replacements in June. I've heard so many horror stories, so I'm happy to see that it doesn't have to be as bad as some say.
Good morning. Best of luck. I don't have any horror stories for you. I still am doing great. You've got this.
Thanks for posting!
You're welcome
Glad you’re doing so well !
Thank you. I appreciate that. Small victories everyday.
Had mines done on April 4th. I kept saying you were going to come out of that room in excruciating pain when the block wore off, but you did well. Great job, everybody is different. I'm doing well. I have a new lease on life with this new knee of mine.
That's fantastic to hear. It definitely is worth it. There is pain but like you said everyone is different. Congrats on the new knee. Onwards.
Im having tkr soon. The stuff ive read has me terrified! But some people seem to heal faster than others. Im doing everything to be prepared for this! Thank you for this video!
Good luck. You've got this. Stay active.
Thanks 4 posting !
You're welcome.
@@BigelowWoodcraft my husband is having a total knee replacement next Monday! I really appreciate this video! It helps.
Thanks for the update. Good to see you up and moving well. My daddy has had 1 knee replaced and getting ready to have the other replaced soon. Hope you recover well and quickly Mr. Jerry!! Looks like your blessed with a great nurse 😉
Thank you Jacob. I'm feeling pretty good today. I sure do have a pretty nurse of nearly 34 years helping me out. Thanks for all the continued support my friend. Have a great week
I’m on day three. It sucks!! Once the nerve block wore off… can we say pain!!! But now it’s getting better. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
You'll see improvement everyday. It'll be small but it's there. Best of luck to you. You've got this. Check out my other videos and see what I was able to do only after a couple of weeks.
Thanks for the video. I am having my knee replacement surgery this coming week. It helps to see a regular guy talk through his experience. I also been having anxiety before the operation, but I know it will turn out well. Again, thanks.
You're welcome. Best of luck. You've got this.
Thanks for the video, I am getting mine done april 30. You have eased my mind a lot.
David, I'm glad to hear. I continue to be rapidly healing. It's been 3 weeks and 4 days and today I walked 3 miles through our local trails, hills, and prairies. I feel absolutely fantastic. If you've not seen my other videos I have a play list about my knee. Best of luck and keep checking in and you go through the process. Anything I can do please feel free to ask.
You did amazing. Hope mine goes even half as well.

Thank you Mark. Today has been a great day.
Great video, thanks for sharing
You're welcome
so glad to see you doing so well with the knee
Thank you Rodney.
I am impressed by your initial recovery, you are obviously a fit Guy, this no doubt is a benefit for your total recovery. I hope you keep the good work up, early days though, best of luck.
I feel that's the number one take away I got going through this process. Fitness is crucial. I'm doing amazing. Absolutely 100 percent. Have a great week.
You are a true soldier , thank you for doing this after surgery results. It appears you had a very good surgeon for such a quick turnaround to home again. I’ve been dealing with same issue over last 5 yrs right leg and finally my knee now says it’s time for a replacement. . I guess each person is a little different after surgery Hope mind goes as good as yours
Thanks for the kind words. My surgeon is well known in the area. He's replaced both my hips as well. I have given him a lot of business lol. I'm sorry to hear you're going through the knee arthritis...It's brutal. The knee surgery is well worth it and life changing. Best of luck to you. You've got this.
I go in on Thursday for replacement....gotta tell you, this video has been fantastic. I'm not too nervous but seeing how you are progressing is encouraging. I'll keep following. Thanks.
Michael it was not as bad as I was anticipating. I'm stiff but I've had zero issues sleeping and can always find a comfortable position. I had my first PT today. The PT I have is all about my goals and believes I can absolutely achieve them. I was at a low point before surgery wondering if I'm doing the right thing. I'm excited about every new day. I really get excited about every little victory and there are several every day. Feel free to find me on Instagram if you ever want to chat about it.
Same here it’s an amazing operation. Just have to keep the pain under control
Glad you're doing well. It's a pretty unique surgery. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I get mine done in June. This is good prep for me.
Best of luck. You've got some time to get in the best shape you can. I feel that's the key.

Thanks for sharing. Having TKR on my left knee in May. You convinced me to get an ice machine. Good luck moving forward!

Hopefully he has a quick and as pain free possibly recovery. He'll be up in no time.
Ready for my right knee replacement, in September. Thanks for the video
@@FightAmerica best of luck to you. You've got this.
thanks so much for doing this video , I have my left knee done in two weeks time and then my right in September , you have made me much more relaxed about the hole thing.
good luck
Best of luck to you. You've got this.
Thank you for sharing your story. I have surgery next month. Have been anxious about it. You've eased my mind!
Best of luck to you. You've got this. Stay positive and get as much moving in between now and then as you can.
I am 5 weeks out from my first TKR (left done on 6/6) and I'm pleased to report that my experience was very much the same.
I too was EXTREMELY worried because I'd heard so many horror stories, but honestly, it has not been terrible at all.
At 5 weeks, I'm already at 127° flexion. (I was at 0° extension within days.)
Stay as active as you can before surgery. Do your prehab exercises. Take you pain meds on a schedule for the first week AROUND THE CLOCK even if you don't think you need them. Ice, ice, ice. Keep it straight and elevated. Do your exercises, even if you hate them.
Already scheduled to get the second knee done on 9/12.
I just wanted y'all to know there's more than one good story out there. I couldn't be happier with my surgery and recovery.
Oh, I will say that I was a bruiser. My leg looked like someone took a cricket bat to me from mid thigh to mid calf. Bruising eventually went all the way down to my ankle. But I was warned ahead of time. It looked WAY worse than it felt. 💜
That is great to hear. I truly believe movement and physical activity is the key to healing with this surgery. All great advice and thank you very much for the comment. Best of luck to you and best of luck with the next surgery.
The bruising is definitely real but looks worse than it really is as you suggested. Have a great week.
Thanks!
You're welcome
Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Thank you. Had a great night sleep and feeling good this morning.
Jerry! You are doing fantastic. Bill had both replaced in 2020. I had both shoulders replaced in 2019. Thanks for the report
Ruth Ann, I don't know that. I hope you guys are doing well. Thank you for the encouragement.
Thanks for the video.
I’m on Day 8. Bandage came off today. PT says it looks great. Just as it should.
Your first 4 days were right on.
PT can be exhausting but getting thru it. Also using the icing cooler. It’s great. Still have tightness and stiffness in the knee. Keep telling myself to be patient-this too shall pass.
Good luck with your recovery.
I'm glad to hear you're feeling well. Every day from here on out will be getting much daily. I'm going great. It's life changing
Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm sure you've made the surgery look less scary for those who need it.
Glad I could help. Thank you
Great vid!! 🙂🙂💯✔️
Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm trying to muster up the courage to have mine done. You look in good spirits and that's good to see.
It's been life changing. The year before I was much like you. It just got to the point my physical and mental well being was taking a hit. You are not the best version of yourself when you're in pain. The week before I almost called it off. Once I went through with it I was very excited to make progress. After a week my new knee felt better than it did before the surgery. It improved daily and far exceeded my expectations. Best of luck on whatever decision you make. If you go through it try and get in the best shape you can.
I have a TKR in august, and this video made me feel so much better!
Best of luck to you. You've got this. Stay positive and keep moving.
Great Job
Thank you
I had mine done April 15th.
I was supposed to have the Nerve Blocker take effect after the Epidural ware’s off, but it never took effect.
My pain at home was excruciating!
They gave me weak meds thinking the NV blocker would be enough.
I’m a little pissed, because that has put me behind as far as my recovery was concerned.
I’m using my stronger meds, but it’s still brutal.
Be sure the Blocker is working before you leave the hospital cause the pain is absolutely brutal !!!
Man sorry to hear that. My pain never got excruciating. I also had no different pain level from day 1 to day 4. I didn't experience that break through pain they say when the nerve block wears off after about 36 hours. After day 4 things progressed very fast and the pain started to subside. I'm not sure why but my hip replacements healed up without much pain as well. Hopefully you'll be coming out of the worse part soon. I really felt the best moving (walking, leg raises all day). When I sat still it would throb. I kept it elevated above my heart at rest. I hope you feel better soon.
I never got the blocker either when I woke up the pain was excruciating it took them 3 days of me yelling before I got some pain relief These "doctors" are afraid you will become addicted we know this is BS! Now because of knees I now have chronic pain!
Oh man sorry to hear that. When did you get yours done. My pain was about the same from day 1 through the first week. Hope you're on the mend now
I'm six weeks out still in quite a bit of pain .I came home from the hospital with covid.,then I fell down in the bathroom and had to call rescue as I couldn't get up. Doing my own PT.
@@bradleyhannah8713a friend gave me some CBD gummies from a medical dispensary, that's when I finally slept pain free. And it helped cut back on the pain meds.
3 weeks after 46 years old male from Phoenix Arizona I feel pretty good high range of motion unassisted is 90° with help around 1:15 just getting the wheel turning good luck to you
@@carlosmelendez9342 that's sounds like you're doing great. Keep it up. Everyday gets better. I'm 100 percent.
Thank you SO much for sharing your journey. I need both my knees done and am very impressed by your results with a surgeon who uses the Mako robot. I’m in search of my own surgeon here in the Dallas area who will use it on me. You’re doing great!!!
Thank you very much. I feel amazing. You've got this and stay positive.
Came here just to see how you're doing!! You'll be back on the sawmill in no time!!
Thank you. I'm feeling great.
You look like you’re doing great Jerry! Both my kids had ACL surgery and it seems like they were no where near that active the first week! Glad to see you will be up and runny soon👊🏻
Thanks Todd. It's amazing the medical advancement they've made. ACL, dang that's a rough one. Thanks for checking in and the continued support.
WOW. You're doing GRREEEAATTT as Toni would say. Our son just had to put on 4 new tires plus rear brakes and rotors. You've got almost as many replacement parts. 🙂 Really glad to see you are progressing as expected. My older sister has had both her knees done and she is now 80 and gets around really good for her age. Hang in there.
Thanks Jim. Today has been a really good day.
Had my left knee replaced on January 2018...all good and back at work in 7 weeks
Right knee is now for the surgeons attemtion.
Your going gangbusters.

You make it look easy.
Thanks Dave. It's not lol
You’re looking great. Thanks for the inspiration. I’m having my TKR in 6 weeks.
Best of luck to you. You've got this.
I had those socks in the seventies. Good to see you moving around. You will be back at the mill in no time! Heading up soon to use the garage and welder.
We all had those socks lol. See you soon.
😂
Glad everything went well Jerry. Funny I tore my ACL back in 2000-2001 on an Atv. They did a hamstring replacement which they don’t do anymore. I still have problems to this day. The wife and I both wish a speedy recovery.
Thank you so much. Those knee injuries linger for ever. Thanks for stopping by
Glad I found this video-just had Mako TKR this past Monday. The swelling is no joke! The pain has been minimal but the swelling…it’s something else.
It's hard with all the PT you have to do but when you rest make sure to have it elevated above your heart. I had a couple pillows on top of my lazy boy then my wedge. My foot was almost vertical. My wife would give me massages pushing the swelling up my leg. This helped a lot. Best of luck.
Thank you so much for your videos. I'm gonna have my surgery in July, I'm not as apprehensive now.
Great to hear. Between now and then try to get in the best shape you can. It'll make it easier.
Thanks for the video, I'm getting total R knee replacement in September, looking forward to less pain as the cortisone doesn't work anymore
Best of luck. You got this. You have some time to get yourself ready both mentally and physically. Keep me informed. It's life changing.
Geez you make it look easy ! Definitely encouraging! I need total knee replacement on left knee. I’m scared about weeks of pain. I’m 55 , I hope I recover like you did. Thanks for sharing!!!
You're young. You should fly right through it. Keep me posted.
You can do this! I just had my first done (I'm 58, retired Marine busted up after 21 years of service!)
Take your pain meds on schedule, even if you don't think you need them, ice, ice, ice, and do your PT. The first 3-4 days is tough, but absolutely tolerable. Going back for round 2 on 9/12.
Good luck! 🎉
Glad you are doing well brother 🙏 during Christmas I had blood clots removed from my left leg and lungs. Took me a bit to recover. I'm fully back at everything now!
Love your content brother 🙏 I watch most of all it. I should comment more!
Be well and be safe 🙏

I had surgery on Thurs and am going through what you've been describing. I've slept with a pillow under my ankle and that was very uncomfortable. Kept me up most of the night and here I'm scanning UA-cam at 2 am.😉
You're on the mend. In a couple days you will be surprised at how good you feel. I feel 90 percent. I just know I have to slow down because I'm truly not healed up. Keep up the positive energy you will be in great shape in no time.

@@BigelowWoodcraft will do thank u
Hello week one down nerve block never blocked any pain very minimal pain mostly discomfort like an elephant sitting on my leg but so far so good
You were doing great after day one. I had 5 degree bow and ended up with planter fascitis because of the sudden angle change. The pf took 9 months to go away. Knee replacement was the best thing I ever did.
I know exactly what you mean. I had seven degrees and the outside of my left foot was really getting sore and callused. After straightening my leg my foot strikes properly now and no more foot pain. I should have mentioned that in my last video. Great point. Not only fixed my knee but my foot and ankle have now improved.
Had my left one done Jan 25th and the other done Feb 15th, doing well, but it has been a bit tougher with the 2nd one. The nerve block didn't work as well and I kind of got stuck with range of motion on it, but it finally broke loose and is doing well. I blew my right knee out 45 years ago, no ACL as well.
Doing pretty well, PT is going well and getting better each week.
Good luck!
I bet you feel like a new man. I wonder what the difference is for you. That's interesting. Thanks for the comment. I'll be getting my right done in time. Best of luck with yours as well.
Thank you for this video. I get my replacement in August. Really nervous about it.
Best of luck to you. Week 5 as of today and still making great progress. I feel almost 100 percent. You got this.
@@BigelowWoodcraft Thank you. I’m 71 with pre existing heart issues, but feeling positive. I’ve had 3 Scope surgeries and PRP injections, and nothing else can be done but replacements. I’m fairly active, but not lately due to knee pain. I’m hopeful!!!
Im due for one end of year. Your video is wonderful! Im terrified 😳
You've got this. You already know what pain feels like. It's not much worse than what you're dealing with now. And when it subsides you'll feel great.
Glad you're doing well. Had left knee replacement on Feb 8. No knee pain, more pain on the quad. Been using cpm machine. Really helps with getting 120 degree bend.
I've heard those machines are nice. I thought about building one. That's amazing 120 already. I'm at 105. This has been a fantastic journey knowing I'm going to be better than I was. Did they use the mako robot on you? How often do you go to PT? I am walking 3 times a day and almost 2 miles total for the day right now. I wish I could go to PT more because they have equipment etc that I don't. Thanks for stopping by
@BigelowWoodcraft Right now I'm still doing PT from home twice a week. Won't start PT on site until my 1 month follow with my surgeon. Surgery was all by hand, did not use the robot. I'm trying to get together asap. I'm a letter carrier for usps, so my whole job is walking for 6 to 8 hours a day. I miss it already and only been gone 3 weeks.
@@63112jg that's why you're doing so well...you're fit. Stay in touch I'd like to follow your journey
Take care Jerry looking good so far careful with being stuck to therapy and the house
I can't wait to get out of the house lol. Thanks for checking in Glen. I truly appreciate it.
The bruise is from a tourniquet used during surgery. I had a bruise in the same spot. I had to wear compression socks for 2 weeks after surgery. Good luck and thanks for the video.
@@jimferry4751 that's exactly right. I feel amazingly well. 6months and it's been life changing. Thanks for the comment.
Oh my you seem to be doing extremely well!! I had mine right done 4.23.24 and it's going pretty well except for the constipation!!! Keep up the awesome work!!
Kelly, you've got the worst behind you. I didn't get that problem but I also didn't need the meds so I'm sure that's the reason. I also had an incredible appetite and craved mostly fresh fruits. It's not been quite 12 weeks yet for me and I don't even know I had a new knee except for the fact there isn't arthritis pain. Keep moving you've got this.
@BigelowWoodcraft OMG that sounds awesome!!! Yes my appetite is basically none so that's a big issue for me!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!! It's all new for me so seeing other's journeys has been enlightening!
Keep up your physical therapy faithfully……..I did my right knee three years ago at age 78…….. I was back driving within three weeks and putting and chipping with three weeks. Now back to playing golf 2-3 times a week. The main thing was to keep up your PT and exercise at home regularly.
You look great. You make me feel hopeful. I haven’t had an ACL since the early 70’s. I have also had both hips replaced. I might want a rocker recliner. It looks like a great way to stretch out your leg.
Thank you. I found the more movement the better. The rocker felt great and kept my knee loose. Good luck.
I just had mine down 4 days ago. Unfortunately, the nerve block didn’t work and I had to go with general anesthesia. It’s pretty sore but fairly easy to get around. I had my first PT yesterday. Today it’s pretty sore. Thanks for sharing your journey. I hope you continue to heal quickly.
@@dianetidwell4938 congrats. You're on your way. The first 4 days are the worst. You'll start seeing progress and relief really soon. I'm almost 6 months out. It's been a great experience for me. You've got this and stay positive.
Looks like good progress! I like your light switch stick.🤣
Thank you. It's my back scratcher lol.
@@BigelowWoodcraft I forgot to ask, can you include some info on the ice machine in next update...brand, where can buy?
@@southernadirondackoutdoors I'll try and remember to do that.
You did great. Glad your channel popped up in my feed. My husband goes to see the surgeon for TKR, both of his knees are bad. He is 69 years old. One big problem is our bedroom is upstairs and so is the bathroom.
@@breeze5378 thank you. The stairs may be a blessing. It'll force him to move. He should be able to navigate them right after surgery. It's hard work but with a great support team from you he should do great. My wife was amazing. Stay positive.
@@BigelowWoodcraftthank you!
I had a left knee total replacement done in September 2021 and it took a good 9 months before I got the real benefit out of it and in April this year I have had my right knee total replacement done. Walking down steps still give a little bit of pain it’s ok up though and walking is no problem. I do all the recommended exercises and I think it will probably be about the 9 to 12 months before I get the full pain free benefit of it.
@@johnpeplow3985 dang sorry about the delay but you're making progress. Hopefully you'll be up feeling well soon. Best of luck.
Thank you so much I’m so scared I am going to have double knee replacement and I live by myself so. Thank you so much for this. I want robot too. Good luck all the best in your recovery
I was really apprehensive before as well. I am so glad I did it. There is nothing I feel like I can't do. Best of luck to you. You've got this.
Great video..thank you so much. I’m having a tkr next month. I live by myself and my little sweet dog. Do you think that’s going to be a problem ? I’m 70 years young. Keep up the good work ✌️🫶
@@conniedeverarandall3701 my wife was a big help. She took great care of me. It would help but not necessary. You will have to be diligent on your PT. Maybe use a timer to remind you of important things to do. Also I'd suggest journaling so you can see what works for you and what doesn't. Today is 84 days (12 weeks) out and I'm still journaling. Best of luck.
Wow double I was a fit strong 56 Yr old when I had my first and I could never managed with a double and I had my nurse wife looking after me 24 7 . Seriously thunk about doing that . Had 2nd knee done 3 weeks ago and again first 2 weeks really really tough. Stay in hospital as long as you can my advice but don't have 2 together. What do you all think ?
@@willfoster2664 It all depends on the individual factors, fitness level, health, weight, doctor, physical therapy and personal drive. I know a few that were in great shape, healthy and had double and did great. I guess it's all about how determined you are about getting past the arthritis pain. For me if my right knee was as bad as my left I would have. Great discussion.
Wow you are doing great! Had mine April 18, struggling with the ROM only around 90-95, still painful to walk! Every day is better but still using the walker, trying to graduate to the cane! It's still swelling, still moderate pain after PT. The hospital didn't have me or anyone else doing stairs! They had ace wraps on us for 48 hrs then we removed it. Bending has been a struggle from day one! I'm told doing great but feel its going slow! It was 9-days for a PT eval & 12- days till PT treatment started. It surely is not the candy coated ride I was told! Good luck!
You have the worst behind you. It's going to get better everyday. The flexion work is painful to say the least but you can do it. Best of luck and stay positive.
I had a TKR on 2/14/24 also. My pain is mainly in the quad muscle also. No pain in the joint itself. I have no staples. You’re getting around really good! Keep it up!
Also, I can bend at 90 degrees. This is definitely a process.
I had my first PT today and it went great. Congratulations on your new knee. I feel fantastic. Like you said just pain in the quad muscle. And today it is really diminished. Here is to a speedy recovery and all the best for you. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Onwards
Thursday afternoon for me tkr bit concerned about my blood pressure last few days it’s been going up 170/ 180 I’ve waited 4 years waiting and in agony dreading getting refused
Talk about inspiring but you’re a healthy guy otherwise - I’m sure this is a big plus with your recovery. Thank you so much for sharing. If only I had half of your courage and optimism!
Hopefully this comment response will find you in good spirits. You've got this stay positive. My mother in law has both her's done. She's not in great shape and did well. Best of luck to you.
@@BigelowWoodcraft Thank you for your vote of confidence. I’ve been hobbling around for years in quite a bit of pain and it would be wonderful to enjoy a nice hike someday! Thanks again.
Had my knee replacement Feb 26 2024 3 months since surgery no pain doing great
That's great to hear. It's life changing.
20 Sept. is my date….thanks much for this….very informative
@@11sesquialtera best of luck. You've got this.
It all looks very good! The swelling and bruising both look normal, and the stiffness is right on. Between the incision, pulling the muscle apart, and then the staples, it takes a little while for the flexing to feel smoother. Once the staples come out there is a noticeable improvement to come! Just remember that you'll be back in the shop, and back at the mill before you know it, and be pain free!!!
Tim, thanks for the input. I appreciate that. March 1 is my follow-up with the Dr and get the staples removed. I can feel them for sure when I get into drop flexion. I found when it gets stiff and sore I go for a couple minute walk around the house and I feel great. Thanks for checking in.
With PT I found that when I was stiffest I would take a couple of Aleve's before I got there, and as soon as I would start peddling a stationary bike (in reverse) it seemed to really help that stiffness!!!
Doing great Jerry. Gotta hate that day 3 right? I had the same cryo cuff ice machine and it was great for the pain. You are way ahead of what I was. Took to week 2 to get 90 degrees on my knee. I did get back on the tractor on day 7 but paid for it the next day with a severely swollen leg - so take it EASY! Interested to hear about the bow in your leg. Mine had to be corrected 10 degrees as well. Been doing physio now for 3 weeks and walking a few miles each day. Cheers Dave.
Wow that's a lot correction you need. My day 3 was pretty rough but I've been so lucky and not having any problems sleeping 8 plus hours at a time. That's key I feel. Thanks for the continued support. It's truly appreciated.
