    Well, at least "Slainte" is pronounced similarly in Scottish as it is in Irish Gaelic. You have no idea how pleased I was to find a coworker (about 30 years ago) from the northwest coast of Ireland who was kind enough to say it for me a few times. And the Scotch Round Tables we did 15 years ago were very educational, since one had to pronounce the name of the Scotch to the satisfaction of the owner of that particular bottle before you could take a sip before passing it on. Very, very motivational! That was my introduction to - let me think a moment - Lagavulin, Oban, Ardbeg, Bunnahabhain, and a bunch of others from #1 and a few from #2. But I must say that the "ch" issue isn't one for me since I used to speak a bit of German, and they say it the same two ways you do. What a kick! But that didn't help a bit when we got to " Bruichladdich ... Thanks for the late-night education, which probably took better than it might have since I didn't haul out the Lagavulin beforehand. (It was my last birthday present from me to me, and very happy I was with myself.)

    This video is so great, I decided to play it again, and to vocalize every pronunciation along with you. That might increase my chance of saying these reasonably well in the future. I think you could make a short video where you simply suggest folks say the names along with you and just cite the two videos.

    Hey, Roy...Thanks for the vid. I really appreciate the effort and the compassion. I also have a place for DJ Quads. The music used on your Recycled Reviews have seeped into my subconscious as earworms. One thing, though...I am hearing impaired and wear hearing aids in both ears, so having a distracting sound source of entertaining music in the background when you are trying convey accuracies of pronunciation seems counterproductive. That said, I need to work on altering my pronunciations...I've been putting the emphasis on the wrong syllable.

    Another "Must See" video. I can't believe it's only been seen 2,724 times so far!
    Some comments:
    Worth pointing out that Ballechin [Bal-Echen] is heavily peated Edradour.
    By the way, I was in the Clynelish distillery two weeks ago and heard them pronouncing it "Kline-lish" (rhymes with wine)
    I've heard a lot of English people mispronounce Loch Lomond as "Loch Lemmond" instead of "Low-Mond"
    I've also heard that a legitimate pronounciation for the Kininvie distillery is "The Balvenie"..(joke for those who have visited the place).
    I'm glad to have found this channel. Blessings from Jerusalem, Israel.

      Todd Stevens the closer to the distillery you go, the closer it gets to the second syllable. I pronounce it with the accent on the first, as most do. Both are fine, the only mandatory part is enjoyment! Thanks Todd!

    4:59 Ralfy says CHAninich, applying CH similarly to "Te" in the name as one does to "Te Bheag".
    Also he says "NOCK-n-dough" when he reads Knockando. Both wrong? Or just different but still correct?
    Also heard Te Bheag pronounced "CHEY vek" elsewhere on UA-cam, by the way.

      That’s probably one of the trickiest; bereft of a brand as such, it’s left down to the different ways it’s pronounced by locals. That’s what I went with but it’s one of those that, as long as you understand it, anything goes and don’t sweat it. Cheers David 🥃

    • @Aqvavitae
      @Aqvavitae  6 років тому +2

      Absolutely fine, honestly. Truthfully my pronunciation of the "Allt" is a little off and it should probably be closer to "Ullt" or "Oolt", but honestly nobody cares too much. Especially as this one has never been branded so there's never been a firm directive of the distillery (that I'm aware of) of how they want to be pronounced.
