Agreed! You'll be surprised that till today there are still some old fashion boomer bosses who insists their employees go to office every single weekday even though their work can be fully done from home, stating that if they aren't in office, they aren't productive ROFL!
@@JasminePhongSW Yes many workplaces worldwide (not just Singapore) show empathy towards people with kids (especially those with special needs) but very very little regard for those with eldercare responsibilities.

PAP failed in its talent development efforts and businesses are finding it hard to source for talents. Instead of PAP admitting its failure, they decided to create some made up problem of "family-friendly practices" and blame the employers for not able to compete, thus losing out on hiring talents. She is so out of touch. No one is hiring anymore because times are bad. Hiring freeze is the norm now. Employers have all the leverage. The real world is not a protected profession like the legal industry where she came from where there only a few thousand people who qualify and there is tight supply of labor. There are little barriers to entry in most industries, so employers have disproportionate power and no loyalty to employees.
for entry to mid level jobs, employers will always have the leverage. if one day, employees have the leverage, you will see all the MNCs leave SG. For your point about loyalty, I think it works both ways, i dont think most employees have much loyalty to their companies too. They either still dont understand the real problem or they are just paying lip service by avoiding it after all these years. The employers will not want to employ people with families. And if pap keep allowing and bless foreigners to work in Singapore the employers will always take them over Singaporeans. Whatever Singaporeans the employers choose to hire no matter how talented they are will always be used mainly to resolve the hiring balance ratio in the company. Nothing will change if you dont realise or change this root cause. Yes companies will abide your rules but because your policies didn't actually change they can still easily screen before hiring whoever they want. The way i see the problem now is it still cannot be resolved at all. You simply said companies must practice family friendly oriented practice to retain talents otherwise talents will shift away but locals with families how exactly are they going to shift anyway to begin qith? Its not that simole you know to leave your family in Singapore and you go far away to seek better opportunities. As for fts the priblem is the same. Whether they are single or they have families as long as they are able to find work in Singapore and Singapore currency is still alluring they also cant shift that easily actually. So nothing changes. You still have two groups of struggling workforces being mixed and cramped together in an extremely small and pressuried Singapore. And the bosses will use this two groups differently as they see fit in life. You all pap have never step into the real working world for a very long time already. Totally out of touch with real life already.
In Singapore the bosses will still be tired and productivity and efficiency will still be dismal even after so many years. Because there is a very old and rigid mindset deep rooted in many people hearts. Towkays don't want talents they see themselves as talents instead so nobody share the burden in sharing workload and solving problems so the bosses stressed themselves to death even if they are able to made money. They just want cheapos and dim wits to stay in the company. If cheapos and dim wits are not available or are daring enough to quit the towkays still have pap to rely on in having a employing pool to fall back on. The pap traditional revenue levies are one of it. They have become addicted to it so the hiring pool is still large meaning more job seekers than jobs in life. The situation is totally hopeless by now. Lol
Some bosses are so oblivious and blinded that they have no idea the worker they are losing is a talent.

in an MNC, everybody including the CEO is dispensable. nobody is unique
P&L matters, unfortunately P&L doesnt speak empathy :(
I really hope that on top of childcare/parental leave, the govt also considers eldercare leave for people who need to take care of aging/aged parents.
