    I'm the armorer in a large retail gun store, and we have one of these in our rental range selection currently. Some of our guys and regular customers have them too. It's not uncommon that they need a little extractor and chamber tip-over adjustment and tuning at first. I've had to work on a number of them to eliminate the same feeding hang-ups seen here. After that and some break-in they run pretty smoothly. Though there was one that I had to open up the width of the breechface a bit too. I've been favorably impressed with them. All real tack drivers. They're castings guns, but very ruggedly built. A real chunk of steel. Lot of features for the price. I also do NOT like full length guide rods in any 1911. They serve only to complicate things and make takedown procedure more tedious. They do not have ANY effect at all on functioning or accuracy, as is strangely widely believed. This has been extensively tested, and the purported benefits of the full length guide rod are entirely mythological. If it weren't for the grip that's rather large for my hand, I might have one. Pretty good sights on there too. You cannot use standard grips or magazine catches in one, and a new slide stop must be modified somewhat to fit. Barrels also seem to be proprietary.

    Gunsmith and I own a 1911 FS HC in 10mm. I know what those feeding issues are and you aren’t limp wristing and it’s not the actual gun- it’s the magazine. It’s manufactured on the old Paraordnance double stack 1911 design- you need to tune the magazine’s feed lips. Just a little work and it will feed everything like a charm. Btw, highly recommend Underwood 155 grn XTP 10mm

      Could you elaborate specifically on what you mean by "tune"? I have noticed on mine that the lips don't look the same on all the mags, but I'm unsure exactly what needs changed and to what extent. Any info would be appreciated.

      @DanielEleveld Рік тому

      @@claytonmutchman4527 sure! You need to adjust the feed lips on the magazine to achieve a good loading angle for the top round. Be very careful when doing this- but essentially you adjust the space between the lips at the rear vs the front of the magazine

    • @DanielEleveld
      @DanielEleveld Рік тому

      @@claytonmutchman4527 thought about and and figured I could be more specific- for 10mm you want the rear of the feed lips (you will notice a small radius, don’t measure on that- measure on the most rearward, flat and parallel portion) to be roughly .380” apart, then the front most part should be roughly .390” apart. Get it to these dimensions first, then tweak it around those dimensions. Tolerance should only be +/- 0.003”, but it’s more important to get it working. A small crack MAY form on the backstrap of the magazine where it forms the lips, that should be fine as long as it’s small and doesn’t go into the lips where it will interfere. If one does form, just keep an eye on it as part of regular maintenance.

I had one FTF (feed) and it shot a little low at 25 yards. The ammo is re-manufactured... 230 grain ball - I don't know how speedy, but it seemed rather sedate.

  • @rjo49
    @rjo49 2 роки тому +1

    About your comment on the 40 caliber magazines: I can confirm that the OEM magazines sold separately are marked the same way. I don't know why, it's pretty confusing. As far as whether they are actually 10mm magazines, I've fired a variety of ammunition and I've had two types of problems. The first is with a couple of ammo types that have very wide open hollowpoints. PPU Defense Line is one example. There doesn't seem to be any way to get these to feed because they hang on the front of the magazines. The front of these doublestack magazines is noticeably rounded and the outline of the bullet is more square - it's literally like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. It just doesn't work. Even filling the mag and then trying to remove the rounds by pushing them out one at a time with my thumbs I ran into the same problem. If readers are planning to use this gun with any of the large blunt-nosed solids for bear protection, I STRONGLY recommend getting hold of a magazine and a box of the ammo you're planning to use and making sure they can move up and down freely. This does NOT appear to be a follower shape or follower angle problem; the rounded front of the mags just doesn't leave enough room.
    The second issue IS a follower angle problem. There seems to be a commonly-held belief that capacity in automatics is the number the mag will hold "+1", but this should never be assumed. Some mags are designed to be inserted into the pistol with the slide locked back, and that appears to be the case here. Again, it's more of an issue with the longer more blunt-nosed rounds because of the shape mismatch, but it can happen with other full sized ammo. If you have to lever that last round into the magazine even with a loading tool, and it sits at an angle so that from the side you can see the bullet nose peeking above the top of the magazine, when you insert it into a pistol with the slide forward it runs into the bottom of the bolt. We already know it can't be forced further into the magazine, but then we try anyhow to force it home by slamming it with whatever is at hand. It should be clear we are forcibly changing the angle of the uppermost round at the very least, probably at least several rounds below, possibly even causing damage to bullets, followers or springs if it's done on a regular basis, and we're again pushing the nose down so it forcibly contacts the magazine, wedging it into place. It really should come as no surprise that this can cause feeding problems. To often I see the exasperation made worse when we try to continue shooting from the mag after clearing the jam, with subsequent rounds failing to feed, without actually fixing the problem we've created. What's happened is the noses of the subsequent rounds have already been jammed into the front of the magazine, and simply clearing the top round doesn't change that. The only solution is to start over: empty the magazine and load again, to get the cartridges into the correct angle position for feeding.

    1911 with ramp doesn't like hollow points on the ramp.
    Use Underwood XtremeDefense or XtremePenetrator with Lehigh Defense bullets.
    Phillips head style bullets load perfectly on 1911 ramp for 10mm.

      @@eddiearchuleta615 the single factory mag i got with mine (nib gun) had no markings indicating being a mecgar . seemed more like pro mag quality with its plastic base plate . the mecgars i ordered still needed a spring upgrade to work with the full power 10mm loads.

    I wouldn't call it a bear pistol. I'd call it an excellent nightstand pistol. If I was walking in bear country, I'd probably carry a G20 or G40. But for a nightstand pistol with hot JHPs, this gun is preferable.

      This is not as reliable as a glock in my experience. Ive had a lot of hangups on every 1911 ive owned. Never once had a glock jam. I own several of each. I only have 1 1911 that has ever proved reliable enough to carry and trust my life on, and believe it or not, it is an iver Johnson eagle 45. Figures the cheapest 1911 i ever bought would outperform guns 4x their price. And I have to drench my 1911s to get them to run and each one only runs good with specific mags and specific ammo. My glocks on the other hand will shoot anything bone dry and dirty. This is a badass gun though and if you get a good one, they're great and eat a good deal of 10mm weights and powers. The recoil springs wear out super quick though.

      @@OpenMawProductions He wasn't right about all 1911's, but this gun in particular is prone to jamming. If you buy it, take it immediately to a gun smith get the mags' feed lips tuned and the feed ramp literally dremeled to a less steep angle. I had this gun and promptly sold after it jammed over 100 times at the range. This was over about 600 rounds. The first 600 rounds mind you. It takes 1 specific type of mag, and they are 45 bucks each. 10mm about 1.00 a round in small quantities( at least it was at the time) and wasn't going to try to break it in with 1000+ rounds in order to make it reliable.

    I went with the Tisas 1911. Don’t regret the purchase. Unfortunately, I waited to long of the RIA and the price went up. Tisas is made just as well as any RIA or Para I’ve shot.
    Im not waiting on this one, by TAC Ultra. It’ll be my hunting back up arm.

      @@jacobtacker4073 normally carry a Smith and Wesson shield plus. Bought the Rock Islands as range guns. Put over 1500 rounds through the .45 with no issues. The 10mm can be fussy about ammo quality. If I was to carry one, it would be the 45. The 10 mm with its double stack magazine is a little bulky for my taste.
