I did decide to try mitre squares for the blanket of a friend of mine. I was planning on making it about 40 inches square (I like making square ones as they can later be used for the child to sit on when playing, etc.) but my friend's wife insisted that it needed to be bigger, so I made it to fit on a queen size bed! Anyway, it looked amazing and I made sure to remind my friend to tell her wife that the blanket is for the baby. "For the baby!!" But baby blankets are a lot of fun to make.

I've well established by now that I don't use patterns, but I do love the idea of making blankets (if not so much the execution.) Going on two years ago now, I made a queen sized blanket for a friend of mine for his birthday (because he's one of those who doesn't collect anything, so it's impossible to buy him stuff.) Anyway, he does photography, so I based this blanket on a photo he took of a church silhouetted against this gorgeous night sky with stars and even a planet visible amidst purple-ish clouds. Well, I wanted a unique stitch for the clouds, so I looked up blanket stitches here on UA-cam and found out about the wavy seashell stitch. That. Stitch. Is. AMAZING. And it made my interpretation of the clouds look so cool. If I was going to do a blanket ever again, I'd do one just using the wavy seashell stitch, because once you know how to do it, it works up well, and the final product is gorgeous.

The most beautiful baby blanket is the one crocheted by Grandmommy!! Lol. I crochet 2 baby blankets for each grandchild. 1 for the baby crib and 1 for them to snuggle with or drag around. I always ask my daughters to meet with me so they may pick out the color(s) they want. These blankets are so cute!

Thank you so very much! I typically just wash them in cold water on a gentle cycle and then lay them flat to dry. I really try not to wash them very often. 💚

Hey NC here also! Earl, NC population 257! No stop lights. The sewing together I was not great yrs ago and the blanket came apart!
I've never heard of Earl before! Will have to look it up on a map! You should check out the join as you go method for granny squares. You don't have to sew them together!! 💙🧶💙🧶

The bobbles are more "attached" and then the pom pom border is more separated from each other. Not sure how to explain that! I hope that makes a little sense! 💕

'Soft' is key word for baby blankets because some babies will rub their blanket across their face as they fall to sleep. If yarn isn't soft, baby gets a yarn burn. The only baby blanket that some day care centers allow are granny square blankets and by that I mean 1 big granny square. 22 to 24 rows using an F or G hook. I'm speaking from my families experience. The big granny square blanket allows young babies air to breathe and even then everyone must be diligent-watch your babies. Always ask your baby's pediatrician for advice.
Oh my gosh I love all of these! I have a problem. I want to crochet everything! I want to make these blankets, amigurumi, baby clothes, and I want to learn to knit too! It kind of paralyzes me 😆 lol. Did you ever have this problem starting out?

That was my motivation for learning how to knit as well. I have a video about the best beginner knitted toy projects that might be a help for you. That will help you work on your knitting skills. Then I recommend the Mary Janes Tearoom Teddy Bear Pattern that is knit flat and then move on to the Little Cotton Rabbits. In the UK there are crocheters and sewers making items for organisations supporting bereaved parents (who lost their babies before or shortly after birth). The mothers keep the blanket as part of the memorial for their child. Is this something done in the USA? 💖

Hey NC here also! Earl, NC population 257! No stop lights. We do have a post office, gas station/grill and Dollar General but lol DG csnt keep employees so there's often a sign up saying "Closed due to staffing shortage"! 🤣
I wish I wasn't scared to attempt another granny. The sewing together I was not great yrs ago and the blanket came apart!
I've never heard of Earl before! Will have to look it up on a map! You should check out the join as you go method for granny squares. You don't have to sew them together!! 💙🧶💙🧶

The bobbles are more "attached" and then the pom pom border is more separated from each other. Not sure how to explain that! I hope that makes a little sense! 💕

Great video! My favorite baby blanket patter in the giant granny square using multiple colors. I also started making a v-stitch blanket in various colors which looks pretty too. Can do so much with colors for either pattern. Thanks again and take care.

Love all your blankets! The color combinations are wonderful. I make a lot of baby blankets. My favorite pattern is by Moogly, called The Loopy Love Blanket. She has a very helpful list of sizes on the pattern blog as well. Happy Crocheting!

'Soft' is key word for baby blankets because some babies will rub their blanket across their face as they fall to sleep. If yarn isn't soft, baby gets a yarn burn. The only baby blanket that some day care centers allow are granny square blankets and by that I mean 1 big granny square. 22 to 24 rows using an F or G hook. I'm speaking from my families experience. The big granny square blanket allows young babies air to breathe and even then everyone must be diligent-watch your babies. Always ask your baby's pediatrician for advice.

That was my motivation for learning how to knit as well. I have a video about the best beginner knitted toy projects that might be a help for you. That will help you work on your knitting skills. Then I recommend the Mary Janes Tearoom Teddy Bear Pattern that is knit flat and then move on to the Little Cotton Rabbits. In the UK there are crocheters and sewers making items for organisations supporting bereaved parents (who lost their babies before or shortly after birth). The mothers keep the blanket as part of the memorial for their child. Is this something done in the USA? 💖
