    I downloaded that app after Hooked by Robin mentioned it, and I’m excited that they’re adding more yarns to it! Something I think is super cool about the app is that you can plug in your color palette and granny dimensions, and it can generate a random blanket using your colors! And it even calculates how much yarn you will need!

      Thanks, Elise. Another enthusiastic video, this time on yarns!
      One of my favorite blanket yarns is Impeccable, because I can locate it at my local Michael’s. The Premier yarns aren’t local, so I would have to find a Canadian distributor for them. Your videos that include the brand always seem to be positive. I love “positive”!
      The CS app looks very interesting, especially for color palettes.
      Wishing you a lovely weekend! 💐 🌸 🌺 ❤️

    I've made a few granny square blankets in my day. You are absolutely right about wool. Lordy that blanket was heavy and you can't just toss wool in the wash. I mostly save wool for hats and scarfs and such. I took that wool blanket on a camping trip once and my friend didn't bring enough blankets and so i let her borrow it. She loved it and when we were packing up i asked her if she would like to keep it. I warned her about washing wool and she still wanted it. Honestly, i was happy to be rid of that thing 🤣

    I'm first and foremost a quilter. I dabble in crochet. But, one of the first quilts I designed for myself was based off the last afghan my grandma had made for me. Hers was crocheted using a bright variegated yarn of red, yellow, green, and blue, bordered and joined with black. My quilt mimicked that but using 2 1/2" squares I cut from about 20 different fabrics. There are no two blocks that are the same, and I love that quilt to death.

    Elise.. I’ve just had a happy but disastrous experience making the prettiest, softest, silkiest, cuddliest granny square blanket for new niece expected next month…. Talk about worming! And tons of joins, of course, but the yarn’s so slippery that even with square knots & extra weaving in, I think this treasure is doomed… the yarn: Bernat Baby Velvet, bought on clearance for $2 to $3 per 3.5oz, 165 yd skein. Making a 2nd attempt with a smaller hook & tighter tension. I’d love to see an episode of Le Petite Saint all about how to use velvet yarns, good knots for it, good stitches & projects… ❤ Jana

    I absolutely love Style Craft Special!! Both DK and Aran weights are great. It is my favorite yarn for baby blankets because it is so soft even before washing and the colors are incredible. I would say the one con is that I can’t buy it in the store (here in my state, at least). I have to order it online so I can’t see the colors in person before ordering. Often times the color I need is sold out and I have to wait for a restock. It can get annoying.
    For big box store yarn, I Love This Yarn is tops! So soft, lots of colors, center pull! and reasonably priced when it goes 30% off every other week. The only con is I feel like they don’t have a lot of modern colors and don’t seem to have updated their color palette in a while, so I go to Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek for that boho palette when I need it.

    Hey 👋🏻 After watching this through twice, I realized there is a very practical reason for some makers to use that Paintbox wool blend. Yes it is a little scratchy. However, the cost of weighted blankets for sensory seekers is OUTRAGEOUS! My son is autistic with epilepsy and has been dubbed a sensory seeker with sensory processing disorder. His purchased blanket was $210! For that, I could make a nice big blanket out of that yarn and still be able to wash it ( yes gentle and air dry). But that commercial blanket had pellets in it and could not be washed. So for anyone with someone special with those kinds of issues, this may be perfect!

    I will have to try that Crochet Studio app! I used to use the Red Heart app to pick out Red Heart Super Saver colors when I was at the local Shopko (back before the chain went out of business), and found it to be very useful for choosing coordinating colors for granny square afghans.

  • @delisamarchetti5926
    @delisamarchetti5926 Рік тому +1

    Great video today! I loved seeing all the yarns you presented. For someone just starting out I could see why those mini skeins are a great buy because you get so many different colors. It takes awhile to save up that many colors from odds and ends of other projects. For many many years Red Heart was my go to granny square yarn, but a few years back I noticed the texture of the yarn began to change. When I would do a granny square afghan after the first wash the yarn would become almost spongey in texture, and it was not as soft as it had been and didn't feel as good in my hands as I worked. I have come to really enjoy working with "I love this Yarn" by Hobby Lobby. I love the huge variety of colors and the softness of the yarn. On the downside, it will pill badly if you do not wash the afghan correctly in cold water and dry on low heat. Also the Hobby Lobby yarn is a little smaller gauge and I usually have to go down a hook size to get a good defined granny square. I also really love making Hexagon shaped granny squares, they look so beautiful! It is nice for a change once in awhile. I usually make at least one granny square project a year, they are such a nice way to use my stash while challenging my creativity. I am working now on something completely different. I am almost finished with my first pair of knitted Scandinavian Selbu mittens. Whew! Talk about a challenge, but I am enjoying learning something new. Have a wonderful day ahead!

    I just found you because I’m about to start granny squares and don’t know what yarns are best. This is fantastic, thank you! My fave cotton yarn for my starter projects like washcloths and towels has been 24/7 mercerized. Have you reviewed that for granny squares?

    Thank you for sharing the best yarns to use - I can also agree with you that Stylecraft Special DK yarn is absolutely gorgeous to use and the amount of colours that are available is mind blowing.

    My favorites yarns are from ‘bergère de France’, they are so beautiful and nice to the touch and also, easy to work with. They have some categories of yarn that exist since the 60’s, I mean by that, that the yarn you love won’t disappear like it happens with some other brands… but I will definitely try the ones you listed, they look great ! 😊

    I live in Norway, so we don't even have the same yarn brands. I just wanted to know what sort of yarn is best to use in terms of material, so I found myself skipping through most of this video lol
    So essentially acrylic is really easy to work with, while cotton is warm and soft, but tiring to work with due to lack of stretch. Whool is warm but heavy, which can actually be good thing if you like weighted blankets :> although, because a little bit scratchy, wouldn't be good if you have sensory issues towards scratchy fabrics (I like weighed blankets, but can't stand scratchy fabric lol)

    Thank you for all your GREAT videos!! I love that I stumbled across you. 😊 I wanted to tell you that I, too, had joint pain, among other issues like several autoimmune conditions. I did a Keto diet & mostly eliminated those issues, but 10 mos ago, my husband & I started a Carnivore diet... & yep, gonna use the "cure" word, CURED our multiple conditions. We're in our late 40s & had spent over 10 yrs thinking this was "life," getting older, & just accepting the pain... NOT ANYMORE. You have passed some awesome crochet advice/tips/tricks, etc so I just wanted to share this with you. Our favorite docs we follow are Dr Ken Berry, & Dr Anthony Chaffee. 😊❤

    Hello, I happy I found your video. I want to crochet a table runner. I've been pondering what type of yarn to use for my project. I want the yarn to be machine washable , not pill after repeated washing, and dryer safe. Do you believe a cotton/acrylic blend is appropriate? I look forward to and appreciate your opinion. Thank you.

      One yarn you might want to check out is the Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted . I believe they also have a DK version as well. The anti-pilling technology would be great for something that you're going to wash a lot! 🧶🧶🧶

    I love your videos! Could you--or have you already--described "stitch definition"? I sort of know what it means but I don't understand how different yarns make the stitches look different. Thanks in advance!

    • @EliseRoseCrochet
      @EliseRoseCrochet  Рік тому +1

      Think of stitch definition like a photo. The more crisp/clear the photo is like having good stitch definition. You can see the structure of the stitches very clearly. Then think of a blurry photo where you can't see details, that's like a yarn that doesn't have as much stitch definition. But with yarn stitch definition isn't a good or bad thing, it's just a term to describe the crispness of the yarn. I hope that makes sense. 🧶🧶🧶

I hot glued some teeny tiny craft flowers around their ears and i nestled them in a shallow basket with green moss so it looked like they were peeking out. That project really brought me joy and i get so many compliments on that little basket full of bunnies.
