UPDATE: Hi everyone! This video has received a resurgence of interest so I wanted to let you know that I AM making this blanket and will show you the finished project in a few weeks. Here are some answers to your questions in the meantime. The yarn is "Feels Like Butta" and is a sport weight (Med 4) requiring a 4mm hook. I used a 3.75 mm which made each square 4x4 inches. I am making a 3' x 4' FT throw blanket (not including the border) and I will need 108 squares to do this ( width= 9 squares, height =12 squares). Each square takes about 23 yards of yarn. The skeins I have are 218 yards each so I will need 12 Skeins to make this size blanket. Hope
@@victorialamarque-blair6289 12 skeins total varying the colors . When I bought the yarn at Michaels, the skeins were huge. Each was the equivalent of 3 skeins so I have essentially 15 skeins but definitely don’t need that much. So to answer your question, I would get two of each color (10) then choose a 6th color for the remaining 2 or maybe repeat 1 or 2 colors to reach 12.
I haven't made a granny square in 50+ years but this beautiful pattern has made me rethink them. In my teens I made a blanket for my mom using the standard granny square but ran out of yarn. With no money for more yarn it became what my family jokingly called the "Half-gan". Although my mom has been gone for many years, it still lives on and has warmed laps of our entire extended family over the years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I just may have to try them again! ♥️

I just recently stated back crocheting and came across your channel. I have really enjoyed your videos. I'm like you I can't sell my projects because all the pet hair that has found it's way into the stitches. That's okay with me for I'd rather have my babies and enjoy them then worry about selling my projects.
Hola Roz. Gracias por compartir este hermoso patrón. Realmente explicas muy bien, no creí que pudiera lograr hacer este cuadrado de la abuelita pero seguí cada uno de tus pasos y me quedó súper lindo! Muchas gracias!!

@@poppykisley2459 Ugh, I know it. A lot of times you can carry the tail in the next round and catch it in the stitches and eliminate a lot of them that way. Leave a long tail and include it in your next round for about an inch or inch 1/2 (whatever you feel is good). I would also recommend getting a pack of "Susan Bates Finishing Needles". I couldn't find them easily at a store so I ordered them online. These have made the process much faster. I waste so much time trying to thread a needle and this takes that away completely. Hope that helps xx
@@elizavindas8525 I would repeat row 4 OR you could do the same sequence in row 4 with double crochets instead . I just tried it and it looks really nice . So row 5 would look like this : start in a corner with 3dc ch3 3dc . 3dcs in each cluster on the side until you reach the next corner (there would be 4 clusters on row 5 ) and continue this all the way round.
Hi! Your videos always show perfect up-close camera work and your explanations are also spot-on. I was looking for a pretty lapgan to make for a senior citizens home and this is it. Thank you so much for creating this video.
Lovely square, and easy! I used a size H hook and my square measured about 4 and 3/4", so I added another row of dc to get it 6". This square is great-I'll be makin more.
@@PlayHookywithMe am happy but the squares need more perfection at the corners.Your colours and the work itself is so perfect and I love watching this. Now I am trying to get the same yarn you have suggested from Amazon, (into India) but they cost a fortune :-) ...anyway am hoping I will be able to do a better and a slightly bigger project...thank you so so much for a lovely tutorial and for inspiring many ...❤️
Love your techniques and tutorial method. The pace is just right for me to re-learn this pattern. And it inspires me to continue finishing my huge blanket.
This was so helpful. Your tutorial was easy to follow and I love your voice and enthusiasm. I am using this pattern to make a hat and the join as you go method works really well. Keep it up!!!
I just finished reading some comments and I don't want to repeat what everyone else is saying, but I totally agree with everyone. The colors of the yarn looks really pretty together. I would love to have a throw like this but it's to much of changing the colors for me because I am not good at changing the colors in any project. Thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you for writing. I hope you won’t let changing colors stop you from trying the project. What do you struggle with? Maybe that is something I could make a video about 💕
@@PlayHookywithMe when it's time to change colors, I usually tie the two ends in a knot, like 5 times because I'm always afraid it will come undone and also the 2 different yarn ends. I don't see them in very well and hide them. I have seen people change colors 1000x but I'm still unsure about myself. Thank you for replying. ❤️
Hello dear , it’s me again ; I’m trying to attach these squares as I go .. I crochet 4 rounds .. then I attached the 5 th round as I go .. I like the way it looks; even though a little difficult to handle.. I hope I’m on the right track .. not that easy.. I’ll keep on trying this method, thanks kindly.
Oh good idea to add a 5th round to join as you go. Yes, it’s a bit tricky but at some point it will “click” and you’ll get your rhythm. I hope you’ve seen my join the first 4 video - I think I added a couple more tips in that one that hopefully you will find useful 💕 ua-cam.com/video/Q6KkuLqGg2c/v-deo.html
I'm loving granny squares right now! Thanks for the tutorial and the easy way to join as you go. It had not occurred to me to criss cross the corners when joining. Great idea!
I'm a beginner. My problem is the puff 😭 its still hard doing that. But i'm not give up. This is soo pretty ! I can't loose them. I will try and try until i can make them. Thanks you for this video and the pattern ❤️
Thanks for a wonderful tutorial. Easy to follow and I‘m looking forward using your cluster corners. You chose perfect colours and the blanket is amazing.
I find it interesting that so many crocheters seem to prefer yarns of man-made fibres. As a beginner I wonder if it's simply a matter of cost and availability, or if there is some other benefit to using acrylic or polyester yarns? Perhaps it's easier to work with, perhaps it gives smoother stitches, I don't know. Anyway, it's a pretty pattern and you've definitely made it seem simple enough to be achievable even for a beginner. (Well, re-beginner; I did a lot of crocheting when I was around 8, but that's 3½ decades ago! So I'm starting with the basics before I move on to crocheting lace with my 1mm hook - it was my favourite as a child, but I had small hands back then...)
I think you brought up some good reasons why many choose the synthetic yarns. Another one is often people are allergic to wool so there's that as well. For me, it was complete ignorance. I wasn't fully aware of the different qualities and found a crocheter that I was coveting so bought the yarn she was using. I'm like you, I learned on the very fine yarn. My mum taught me how to make doilies and I LOVE working with the smaller yarn. Right now I'm making a blanket with fingering weight cotton yarn and I am enjoying it so much. I think people think I'm crazy but I love the delicate result. So glad to see you here and thank you for the lovely , interesting message. xx

Thank you ! 😀💕
The best tutorial I have ever seen. Thank you.xx
Thank you so much 😀💕
WOW 🤩 YOU R AMAZING… IM NEW AT THIS CROCHET 🧶 AND I LOVE ❤️ IT …. THANK YOU FOR BEING A WONDERFUL TEACHER 💕🙏
Oh, how kind of you, thank you so much! Happy you have decided to try crocheting!! 😀🧶💕
Thank you very much!!! I’m Brazilian so I can’t understand you, but i’m trying and I managed make do crochet squares like yours
😀👏🏻🙌🏻💕 wonderful!
Thank you! Your color choices are beautiful. I have been crocheting for many years and was happy to learn a few new tips to make my work look even better. I look forward to more videos!
I’m so glad you found something of use from the video. I appreciate your kind words , thank you! 🤗
I just recently stated back crocheting and came across your channel. I have really enjoyed your videos. I'm like you I can't sell my projects because all the pet hair that has found it's way into the stitches. That's okay with me for I'd rather have my babies and enjoy them then worry about selling my projects.
Yay! I’m glad I’m not alone on this with the pet hair. 😂💕 glad to see you here 💕
Hello, Thank You. Been having trouble with how finish the first round of my hexagon I'm working on now for my afghan. Thanks again.
Oh how pretty ... hope this helped 💕 thank you !!
Hola Roz.
Hi and welcome to Play Hooky with Me! I want to give a big shout out to those of you that take the time to watch, hit like and subscribe. It means the world to me and really helps youtube to push my channel. So, thank you! If you have a request for a video, don't hesitate to let me know. xo
Hi, what do you do with all the loose ends, do you so them in or is there a better way, as I’ve been sewing them in but it’s taking forever
@@PlayHookywithMe ok thank you!!
hi! If i wanted to make the square bigger, how can i do it? After the last round, what should I do?):
@@elizavindas8525 I would repeat row 4 OR you could do the same sequence in row 4 with double crochets instead . I just tried it and it looks really nice . So row 5 would look like this : start in a corner with 3dc ch3 3dc . 3dcs in each cluster on the side until you reach the next corner (there would be 4 clusters on row 5 ) and continue this all the way round.
🐕 are a joy I ❤ 🐕
Thank you 💕💕💕
This was very hard to make but thank you so much for doing this one too you are wonderful ❤
Hi! Your videos always show perfect up-close camera work and your explanations are also spot-on. I was looking for a pretty lapgan to make for a senior citizens home and this is it. Thank you so much for creating this video.
Oh good, I’m so glad. Thank you 😀🧶❤️
Yes thank you!!! The last tutorial I saw she did treble crochet all around and my square looked wonky!
Oh good! Yes sometimes it just takes a little tweak in the height of the stitches to fix things! Glad the video helped ! 😀🧶💕
Lovely square, and easy! I used a size H hook and my square measured about 4 and 3/4", so I added another row of dc to get it 6". This square is great-I'll be makin more.
Wonderful! 😀💕👏🏻
Thanks to you, my first attempt done, just 9 squares ... not as perfect as yours but feeling happy to have at least started. ❤️
Wonderful, I’m so happy I got to be a part of your project! I’m sure they are fantastic 😀💕👏🏻
So happy to read this 💕
That method of making the first puff stitch gives a much neater finish.
I’ve tried so many but this is my favorite! Thank you❤
I’m so happy you do, it’s a favorite for me as well 💕
Your work is beautiful. From Australia 🇦🇺
So kind, thank you ! 😀💕
Lovely tutorial. Thanks 🇨🇦
Thank you 💕😀
Thanks for your helpful tutorial but still struggle with keeping up to it. My granny square don't look neat but trying not to give up.
Please don’t give up , you’ll get it 🌸💕
I love the colors you chose. Thanks for such a pretty tutorial.
I wish they would make more colors I’m really fond of them too , thank you ! 💕
This was so helpful. Your tutorial was easy to follow and I love your voice and enthusiasm. I am using this pattern to make a hat and the join as you go method works really well. Keep it up!!!
Ooooh, a hat ! I’m sure it’s going to look amazing 😍 thank you for your kind words and I’m so glad you found it helpful 💕
Thank you it was very easy to understand 😀😀 I tried it along while playing your video and completed it super happy 😀😀
Wonderful! I’m so pleased it helped you with your project! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕😀
Your color palette grabbed me right off. Nice sunburst blanket. New sub.
Thank you for subbing! 😀💕
Thank you for the brief explanation 😊 very easy for the beginners to follow up 🙏
Thank you !
Just love the colour combination 🥰
Such a great video! So easy to follow and your voice is really relaxing ☺️
How kind of you , thank you ☺️ 💕
Hello dear , it’s me again ; I’m trying to attach these squares as I go ..
I hope you’ve seen my join the first 4 video - I think I added a couple more tips in that one that hopefully you will find useful 💕

I'm loving granny squares right now! Thanks for the tutorial and the easy way to join as you go. It had not occurred to me to criss cross the corners when joining. Great idea!
Thank you !
Love this Granny square and your tutorial is marvelous. Love the colours you used
Thank you so much !
I'm a beginner. My problem is the puff 😭 its still hard doing that. But i'm not give up. This is soo pretty ! I can't loose them. I will try and try until i can make them. Thanks you for this video and the pattern ❤️
Yes don’t give up! You might find doing less “yarn overs” makes it easier 💕
Thanks for a wonderful tutorial. Easy to follow and I‘m looking forward using your cluster corners. You chose perfect colours and the blanket is amazing.
Thank you ! 🧶💕
Your instructions are very easy to follow. Can you make a tutorial for how to make a baby cardigan and a granny square women's blazer?
I’ll make a note of it , thank you
Stunning! The colors are so beautiful!!! Wow!
Thank you ! 😀❤️
What a beautiful color palette!!
Thank you so much!
I will try this later. Still a beginner and bought a yarn for a bucket hat, today!
@@adhitya2077 oooh fun!
Excellent tutorial
Hola !! Me encanta todo tu trabajo 😻 ojalá pusieras subtítulos en español ❤️❤️❤️
That yarn looks so soft. I may have to buy some.
It’s as soft as it looks 💕
So glad to see you here and thank you for the lovely , interesting message. xx
This a great tutorial really easy to follow, thankyou.
Thank you so much 😀
