    UPDATE: Hi everyone! This video has received a resurgence of interest so I wanted to let you know that I AM making this blanket and will show you the finished project in a few weeks. Here are some answers to your questions in the meantime. The yarn is "Feels Like Butta" and is a sport weight (Med 4) requiring a 4mm hook. I used a 3.75 mm which made each square 4x4 inches. I am making a 3' x 4' FT throw blanket (not including the border) and I will need 108 squares to do this ( width= 9 squares, height =12 squares). Each square takes about 23 yards of yarn. The skeins I have are 218 yards each so I will need 12 Skeins to make this size blanket. Hope

      May I ask is that 12 skeins all up & as there’s 5 colours how many of each colour did you need

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  3 роки тому +4

      @@victorialamarque-blair6289 12 skeins total varying the colors . When I bought the yarn at Michaels, the skeins were huge. Each was the equivalent of 3 skeins so I have essentially 15 skeins but definitely don’t need that much. So to answer your question, I would get two of each color (10) then choose a 6th color for the remaining 2 or maybe repeat 1 or 2 colors to reach 12.

    I haven't made a granny square in 50+ years but this beautiful pattern has made me rethink them. In my teens I made a blanket for my mom using the standard granny square but ran out of yarn. With no money for more yarn it became what my family jokingly called the "Half-gan". Although my mom has been gone for many years, it still lives on and has warmed laps of our entire extended family over the years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I just may have to try them again! ♥️

Oh I'd like to add I have pets too and I found that there is a shed comb for animals that I use on mine and it has reduced them from shedding hair all over as I brush them once a week. I Appreciate you and your Crochet Tutorials so Very Much! ❤ I have always been in Love making just Baby Blankets to give away for Shower Gifts and Beanie/ Slouchy Hats to one of my Daughter's Sorority Charities. Then I came across your Tutorial on "How to Crochet the Sunburst Granny Square"😃 and that was about 1 year ago. I have been Hooked every since, making Sunburst Granny Squares every since then! I Absolutely Love making them! Two Family members asked me for a Sunburst Granny Throw and replenished my Yarn supply. 😊 I have made Four altogether, two of them went to my two daughters for keepsakes and the other two went to other extended Family members. Thank you and know that you are very Appreciated more than realize. Many Blessings to you and your Family! ❤❤❤

    Hi Roz..Best Granny Tutorial ever!! I learned basic crochet 2 yrs ago- after knitting throughout my life- Im now 65 & i was intimidated to try any Granny Sq pattern- I couldnt get the"ring" idea..Today I sat down, determined to CAL with you this gorgeous sunburst..and Voila- 2hrs later- I completed my first Granny- learned the "ring" your way- just a center really- and I had REAL FUN..I love your method of teaching..I like how you stacked the basic cirles- to crochet the edges later..I like to complete projects- and I had just finished a crocheted tassel afghan 48X60 in..and I wanted to make something that can be pastels- like yours- or boho colors- or even made in OMBRE colors- cuz I have multiple stashes in different clors.. and I just had so much fun- this was a starting point- and Im going to make more squares & use your BLOCK STITCH BORDER because I love how it looks..Im so excited,,Thanks for making this so easy..I cant wait to see what I make!! Hi, what do you do with all the loose ends, do you so them in or is there a better way, as I’ve been sewing them in but it’s taking forever

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  3 роки тому

      @@poppykisley2459 Ugh, I know it. A lot of times you can carry the tail in the next round and catch it in the stitches and eliminate a lot of them that way. Leave a long tail and include it in your next round for about an inch or inch 1/2 (whatever you feel is good). I would also recommend getting a pack of "Susan Bates Finishing Needles". I couldn't find them easily at a store so I ordered them online. These have made the process much faster. I waste so much time trying to thread a needle and this takes that away completely. Hope that helps xx

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  3 роки тому +1

      @@elizavindas8525 I would repeat row 4 OR you could do the same sequence in row 4 with double crochets instead . I just tried it and it looks really nice . So row 5 would look like this : start in a corner with 3dc ch3 3dc . 3dcs in each cluster on the side until you reach the next corner (there would be 4 clusters on row 5 ) and continue this all the way round.

    I find it interesting that so many crocheters seem to prefer yarns of man-made fibres. As a beginner I wonder if it's simply a matter of cost and availability, or if there is some other benefit to using acrylic or polyester yarns? Perhaps it's easier to work with, perhaps it gives smoother stitches, I don't know.
    Anyway, it's a pretty pattern and you've definitely made it seem simple enough to be achievable even for a beginner. (Well, re-beginner; I did a lot of crocheting when I was around 8, but that's 3½ decades ago! So I'm starting with the basics before I move on to crocheting lace with my 1mm hook - it was my favourite as a child, but I had small hands back then...)

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  3 роки тому +1

      I think you brought up some good reasons why many choose the synthetic yarns. Another one is often people are allergic to wool so there's that as well.
      For me, it was complete ignorance. I wasn't fully aware of the different qualities and found a crocheter that I was coveting so bought the yarn she was using.
      I'm like you, I learned on the very fine yarn. My mum taught me how to make doilies and I LOVE working with the smaller yarn. Right now I'm making a blanket with fingering weight cotton yarn and I am enjoying it so much. I think people think I'm crazy but I love the delicate result.
      So glad to see you here and thank you for the lovely , interesting message. xx
