    Interesting about not oiling the o-rings. Not to mention seeing a GT350 serving as a test mule for the GT500 and talking to the engineer. Finally got my break-in miles in and did my first oil change. Putting a quart size freezer bag over the entire filter assembly as you remove it works great! Excellent video as usual. Great content, editing, and video quality!

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  5 років тому +1

      I thought so too. He went into further detail about it. But he was firm about me not oiling it next time. Pretty knowledgeable guy. That is a good idea on the freezer bag. I never thought of that. It would save a mess from happening every time. Have fun and enjoy! Thanks for watching.

      @@woman.driven tearing the orings because you put them in dry is worse then the off chance of the filter housing coming loose. if there is sufficient vibration to work it loose then drill a hole through the tightening nut and run safety wire. almost every spin on can style performance filter even has holes for safety wire.

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  5 років тому +2

      O-rings won't be 100% dry. They just won't be oiled more than they need when they go back into the housing. Since oil residue exists in the threads already. I'm just simply relaying the info provided to me by someone who was part of the team that engineered and tested that engine.

    At the first brake being bled the fluid starts to rush out the middle straw. I was thinking that I never used a double straw bottle so I don't know... Your first time was really smooth and almost not a problem

      It happens..my first ever oil change was a mess..not on this car though lol. I did mess up the first part of the bleeding in the video..poured some all other the floor lol. Learning process haha. That is true..your own maintenance..if done right is perfect. Thanks for watching

  • @limtnbiker2974

    Just a tip... You should be using a micrometer to measure brake rotor thickness instead of a slide caliper. The slide caliper measures an area that extends from the edge of the rotor towards the center. The burr that forms on the outside edge of the rotor can throw off your measurement. A micrometer would measure one spot right in the middle of the rotor surface.

    Hi, much appreciated video. I see a lot of great care taken and I see that you are highly skilled. I enjoyed watching you do all that.
    I have been reconditioning the entire brake system of a 1961 Humber Hawk Series II that I have. The car had sat unused for 25 to 30 years and the brake components had ceased and corroded.
    It has been quite a job doing it component by component. The front caliper pistons had ceased solid and the only way I could remove them was by tack welding a piece of bar across each one to support and apply pressure with my press. Then I cleaned and painted the housings and replaced the pistons and seals.
    The master cylinder and remote servo had corroded through so I replaced them with newer versions. And I remade all of the lines.
    I have been reconditioning the front suspension and cross member unit too.
    I haven't checked the rear wheel cylinders yet or clutch.
    Luckily the engine is fine and started fairly easily. But I have to replace the fuel lines and see if I can clean the tank as it may be dirty inside.
    I enjoy doing the work myself and it is rather relaxing.
    I am looking forward to having the car drivable again.

    Just FYI he inside pad on my GT350 wore out much faster then the outside on the front. Always good to check both and when changing pads out the pad with the metal tab on the inside just to be safe. Nice work on the maintenance!

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  5 років тому

      I was expecting to see one with more wear than the other. But they wore evenly for whatever reason. Perhaps I'm not braking hard enough lol. I'll likely replace the pads after the next track day. I've also read about changing out the backing plate to a different one to keep the temps down. Not sure if that's what you meant by changing out as well.

    • @tekyguy
      @tekyguy 5 років тому

      Woman.Driven with 8mm you still have a ton of pad left! New pads start at 9.5mm for stock front pads. The backing plates do block heat transfer to the caliper but force more heat into the pad and rotor as a side effect. If your not cooking seals and fluid which I have not either I wouldn’t worry about the backing plates. As for not braking hard enough, just stay within your comfort zone and dial it up little bits at a time. Brake wear differs a lot between tracks as well. Those with high speed straights into low speed corners will chew some pad!

    The bottle @16:00 is basically a bong.
    The purpose of the inner straw is to prevent drawing air bubbles back into the brake system. If any backwards flow happens, it draws fluid from the bottom of the straw instead of air from the top of the bottle. I can't tell from my small phone display but it looks like your spill was caused by flipping the inlet and outlet

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  5 років тому +1

      Okay. That makes sense on why it started coming up from the top due to the pressure of the bottle when bleeding. The leak was caused by the straw itself. So I removed it.

    wow, well done, this was by far my fave video, well until the lift video; thats the one that brought me to the channel. I really liked this one because i learned alot, annnnd I use Amsoil and Motul too, that surprised me! Motul brake fluid is amazing, so is their ester core oil, but dosnt last as long as amsoil. funny story about the oil filter spin off, it happend in my s2000 on my original F20c engine, after i added a filter magnet to it (i also may have turned it, but that was a loonng time ago when i wasnt very good at working on cars). There is a cool item for the s2k's by J's racing called an Oil Filter Stopper. An arm mounts on a timing cover bolt and via a small steel cable, holds a worm clamp tightened onto the oil filter; clockwise to keep it from spinning. when i swapped my engine, i made my own! well, as always, keep it up and dont give it up, ur doing so well on youtube!!!

    Hey, I'm new to your channel. Your Mustang is what brought me here but your knowledge is what made me subscribe. Out of all the car people I follow, You've taught me some new things that I actually never knew. I'm currently in the market now for my first manual mustang after the automatic I have now and hearing your story about how you just got it and did make me want to do the same. Yolo. lol Thanks.

    Incase you didn’t know already but if there is a lip on the edge of the rotor you will get a false reading on the thickness. It’s best to use a c clamp style micrometer

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  5 років тому

      I cleared that lip. The caliper has a very minimal raised section that gives you the room to clear very small edges like that. Here is the one I have: www.uline.com/Product/Detail/H-7352/Tools/Digital-Caliper?pricode=WB7992&gadtype=pla&id=H-7352&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6-G6g9qR4AIVqSCtBh3K-ApzEAQYAyABEgIdX_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

    next brake fluid flush when you are done with the power bleeder release the pressure and keep it on the master cylinder. then unscrew the pressure bottle and open the bleeder on the left front and let it bleed more til the fluid level in the master is at the full mark. this will save the mess from spilling.

    • @woman.driven
      @woman.driven  5 років тому

      I believe that is what I did. I lowered the pressure bottle to the ground so the center of gravity was lower, opened the bottle slowly and waited till all of the fluid in the tubes drained back down. There was only a but of fluid in the master cylinder that I removed with eye droppers lol.
