I was gifted this sampler about 4 and a half years ago by a friend. It indeed has made me a better creator overall. The sampler is elite but the effects are A1 too!
I agree. Best sounding sampler technology ever. I have been primarily Ensoniq user since 1991, so the OS is 2nd nature to me. Check the pot cleaning tutorials- they'll sort out your knob issue.
I found out about the ASR-X from the producer Oddisee when it was still in his setup. This was a long time ago and even then he said it was sequencer was janky but he made it work and made it a part of his sound. I though about getting one for my collection but figured the workflow might make it not worth the time. I'm surprised you don't have an S2400 for the SP-1200 vibes. As a lover of the aesthetic of old school samplers, it's on my wish list.
All I’ll say is that I worked in a famous equipment rental house in NY when these came out. It never went out. BUT! Strangely enough, neither did our ASR 10s! Couldn’t keep MPC 60s, Forget about 3000s (especially in the Puffy/Mase era.) Back then producers didn’t gravitate towards ensonic. KORG AND ROLAND AND AKAI were boss. Whose camp did we rent to? Bad Boy Missy and Tim Mary J Brandy ROC Joe Too many to name on the Hip Hop side. Rolling Stones Elton John Every iconic group imaginable. One day I’m gonna tell the story about pure racism in the first days of hip hop taking over the charts . If it was a small thing I wouldn’t bother but it wasn’t! Many of our most celebrated producers and artists had to go through a little Jim Crow treatment in the beginning. Let’s just say that in the pre internet behind the scenes music production end of the business, they resented the take over. The place had been around since the 60s. By the 90s I was only the second black person that ever got hired. I remember one day Mary walked in and saw me behind the counter and her head snapped back and she said “WOW! New day!” And it was. 80% of their business was from our music. Rock died a terrible death.
I got mine with the output expansion. Works perfectly with Ableton and I have the MIDI hooked up to the Komplete Kontrol. I don't sample on it as much anymore but I like running sounds through it for the FX
HAD MINE SINCE 1998 .The sequencer on this is actually fine. "IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW"❗ You can do an os update. The knobs suck ... You gotta get the pole tightened at the bottom. Minds has the SCSI and the 8 outputs Other than this jankey knobs I've had ZERO PROBLEMS. HOWEVER I DO WANT TO OUT AN SD CARD READER FOR IT.
Dynamically its unmatched....I was pissed because I could get protools or any DAW to capture its dynamic range... I still midi to it and I don't worry about anything else on it...
0:50 I'm peepin the Old School spot... I seen worse messes... but I'm spying that Rack of Cheddar... That Stack of Ducatz.... about 4k of dem Benjamins Propping up that monitor🤑🤑🤑
Terrible machine! I had it for ONE day...I bought it at one sam ash, then found another Sam Ash that had a floor model Mpc 2000, and returned this trash for that the next morning...the ASRx was just bad...🤢🤢🤮

Best sounding sampler i've ever used. Shame it's also got the worst workflow and sequencer
That’s what I always heard, the sequencer is the worst on ensoniq machines
