This bring back some memories. I'm colombian, 34 now. I didn't serve in the military but I lived in the countryside of my city Cali (where I still live now) next to a training military base; I was like 12-13 back then and my mom had a little convenience store; we had some pigs, we served breakfast and lunch at our house and a lot of the soldiers used to trade us these kind of rations for regular groceries or meat; they went pretty fed up of that kind of food after their missions (I guess that happens eventually). A couple years later the military base was closed, guerrillas started to take control of the place and we were forced to go to the city. Thank God we preserved our lives and the good memories with the militaries. I can see there hasn't been much of a change in the content of the rations since then; I remember trying the tamal, minestrone soups and lentils stew. Those square cookies are delicious, I must say the bread was my less favorite, it's super hard and dry.
Do you know how many different menus they had? The US has 24 different menus, but if you were eating them 2 or 3 times a day, you'd get tired of them pretty quick. I wonder about the nations with less menus.

Steve: "I'll just take small bite....* *Takes a bite* * Oh yeah, that's foul.... * *Takes another bite* * Wait... that might be okay... * *Takes yet another bite* * No, That is definitely spoiled."
When Steve wants to retire, he shouldn't tell anyone, but just at the very end of his final video he should say "I'm not feeling so good," and then never upload any more
My partner is colombian, the way to do this would be mix the condensed milk, cocoa, and coffee together, and also soak the bread in the remaining condensed milk. I bet the reason the coffee is weak tasting is to acommodate the cocoa!
After watching all of your videos over the past couple of years, "lets get this out on a tray" is a permanent part of my vocabulary that I use on a daily basis. Hey Steve. I just discovered your channel a few days ago. I never thought watching a guy open MREs would be something i'd be interested in watching, but here I am. One of your videos popped up on my fyp so I watched out of interest, and it was the most addictive thing I've come across in a while. Love the way you present it, the way you talk and I love how passionate you are about what you do. I have now watched 10 videos or so and I'm loving it. I have subbed and am excited to go through them all. Even been looking online to buy some MREs myself as I'm intrigued as to how they taste. Glad I found you man, keep up the good work. Peace.

These videos are strangely relaxing. He's like the Bob Ross of eating military rations. Alright, now I'm going to make myself a hot chocolate and watch the rest. Nice!
My 13 year old daughter just asked me the other day, “Why hasn’t Steve1989 made any videos lately?” Most exciting news so far in 2021!!! “Nice hiss!!!”
I am honestly shocked that he didn't get botulism from that 1899 Boer War beef ration he ate. Especially since he could tell that it was off as he was cooking it and after the first few bites, but he kept eating it. I felt sure that he was going to get some sort of bad ailment from that...and he didn't. And wasn't it a modern 2019 Chinese ration that actually made him sick? Ironic. But still, he must have a stomach of iron. I wouldn't touch most of these things that he eats.
Steve eating expired rations: “This tastes like something you’d get from a mediocre gas station vending machine or botulism on a stick. Lemme get another bite just to make sure ....” Welcome back Steve! Missed seeing your vids!
The pain in Steve's voice when there is no hiss makes me sad, so when I hear him say woah, nice hiss! That is pure happiness. Also while I'm typing this I'm eating mre peanut butter on uk ration dark chocolate chip oat biscuits. And for my drink I have a strawberry beverage base. Nice.
I was legit worried for a bit that I haven’t seen any recent uploads from you. I’m glad your back and I feel proud to see the ration from my family’s country. 🇨🇴
@@ABC-dw7peMan, that ration Is not the best but damn it taste good, I could say that rural citizens had try those rations atleast once because sometimes soldiers could trade them for vegetables, meats, etc.
As a colombian, my only problem and concern is that unfortunately, Steve never tasted good and True Coffee ☕. Colcafe is cheaper brand, even we make fun of it's chemical and awful taste 🤣🤣🤣, nothing compared to Aguila roja or Sello rojo, those are really good brands. But anyways it is glad to see Steve being so facinating with the ration though. Blessings to y'all and stay safe
@@nopeyoudontknowmyname9153 The thing is, that good and varying food (and coffee) boosts the moral and effectiveness of a soldier. Eating the same boring crap everyday to some artificial coffee, and you have an easily pissed and moody company. And you don't want that.
There are several varieties of tamales in Colombia and they're all really good. The only thing missing is that when you actually get it, it's wrapped in a banana leaf. And if you ever get a chance to get real Colombian hot chocolate, make sure you prepare it with milk and and some chunks of really melty cheese. It doesn't add anything extra to the chocolate, but it's the traditional way to drink it and it's delicious.
@@NotfallkaramellHi, I'm Colombian. Because the cheese melts with the cholocate, so we use a spoon to eat or just use our hands. It is done in more often in cold places.
The entire time, I was just waiting for him to make an improvised chicken pot pie with that biscuit pastry thing! I’m also fascinated in the fact that he has tried countless MRIs over the years (and years!) but can still come across new, interesting, and unique finds and enjoy them. When it comes to food security and caloric density, condensed milk is one of the greatest inventions ever. It's tasty, it has fat, protein, and carbohydrates, it's shelf-stable, and it packs all of this into an insanely small space, making it easily portable.
@@reallyseriously7020 When I was a kid we used to take Oatmeal and sweetened Condensed Milk and Chocolate chips and basically mix it all together in a bake pan. Bake till the chocolate is melted and there's a bit of browning on the top. Easy to make and delicious, though too sweet for me now. Also the pan cleanup was a nightmare, if I made it again, I'd look at some non-stick options...
You are telling me that customs flagged a parcel from Colombia, opened it up, saw a couple of vacuum sealed bricks and was like "Everything seems to be in order here" lol?
After watching these many videos, I blame Steve for the fact that neither my wife nor I can say the word "tray" anymore. We both pronounce it "treh" now.
When I was in the service we trained the Colombain army and we had this type of ration. What the Colombians did in the morning was mix the coco powder, coffee sugar and the milk with water and dip the bread in the drink and some would soke the bread and eat it like a pudding.
I'd have added coffee to the chocolate poured in all condensed milk broke up the dry bread/cake into it and made a type of caffeined chocolate pudding (may be pretty good)🙂 Always good to see you Steve 🤗
I have been consistently using “let’s get this out on a tray” when cooking dinner at home. Girlfriend picked up a nail in her tire the other day. Glad to see you back and doing well. We were all worried and missed you.
I'm about to get my phone out on a tray to watch this joint
After all these years of eating MREs Steve must have tons of water purification tablets enough to purify a lake.
OMG that legit made me ROFL so much, LOL...
When we ever have a water shortage steve steps up fear no more i have water purification tablets enough for 5000L of water xD
Yet another reason to not doubt Steve's survival of the zombie apocalypse
😄
Forget a lake - he could possibly purify the entire Amazon river.
Even then he might still have some tablets left.
the amount of camping I suspect he does I bet he has fewer than you think
I love the community's dedication to the bit of saying like "oh he didn't die of dysentery" or something every time he comes back from hiatus
That and the "your the bob ross of mre videos :)" comments lol
This is one of my favourite UA-cam channels ever. I love how obscure of a topic it is, and yet there's still like 2 million subscribers. Not to mention this terminators insatiable appetite for MREs. This channel sums up UA-cam for me
Let's also not forget that botulism and salmonella have tons of opportunities to take him out, yet he still lives
The King has returned ! we missed ya buddy
Great to beback Lazzy!
I really like how genuinely upbeat you are Steve, my wife laughs when I call you "the Bob Ross of military rations". I can't think of a better way to describe you
"The magic words, Boss. I've been waiting four months to hear 'em. Alright, let's get this sat out onto a tray. C'mon, say it for old times' sake."
"Nice, m'kay."
"It's really you, Steve. All these months without you... I knew this day would come."
Hey! I understood that reference.
WoahOOOOOOH!
They ate us like a damn ration!
i read this in kaz’s voice 🥺
Steve kept us waiting, huh?
You know where he’s been? He was single handedly pulling out a stuck container ship from the Suez. He heard his rations were gonna be late...that’s a big no no
I suppose his arm is way jacked then Quagmire's when he discovered internet porn?!! :y
Sounds about right
@@heartbreakmanNo1 exactly, absolutely hilarious 😂 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂

STEVE HAS RETURNED!!!! 2021 is looking just a bit better now
Processed military goo on Steve’s tray feels like a Michelin level experience when he describes the flavors and textures.
Colombians: Do not eat if bulging, leaking, or damaged.
Steve: hold my mess cup.
Same warning the taxi driver gave me about the prostitutes on my first time in colombia.
Seems like decent advice in general, too.
Steve: "I'll just take small bite....* *Takes a bite* * Oh yeah, that's foul.... * *Takes another bite* * Wait... that might be okay... * *Takes yet another bite* * No, That is definitely spoiled."
Lmfaoooo
@@Rem694u2 .... *Takes another bite* "Oh, yeah. This is definitely rotten, but it was awesome to get to try it"!
Followed by: hold my hair.
When Steve wants to retire, he shouldn't tell anyone, but just at the very end of his final video he should say "I'm not feeling so good," and then never upload any more
Hahaha I just died laughing
What an awfully great idea! :D
That would be a nightmare 😅
Omg 😂😂
4 months was a while to wait.. I was starting to get worried about that Mexican chicken
1,800,000 fans have been missing you. No small feat. You are loved.
My partner is colombian, the way to do this would be mix the condensed milk, cocoa, and coffee together, and also soak the bread in the remaining condensed milk. I bet the reason the coffee is weak tasting is to acommodate the cocoa!
That was my first thought too. I bet it would taste amazing.
Black coffee with condensed milk is god send
Nice.
@@sixforks6543 *hiss*
Bro that’s what my dad told me about if I ever had to join the service but thank god I didn’t
"Unfortunately, this one is a few years out of date."
That hasn't stopped you before Steve. 😁
Ha, even a few decades out of date!
Max from Tasting History even mentioned Steve in his hardtack video
This field ration bread is good until next week

At least it's not something left over from the Inca's!
At this point, watching you is a luxury. You go away for months and all of us are just here waiting for your return.
Clicked to watch so fast the rations are still fresh
Absolutely fresh!
@@Steve1989MRE Also nice
After watching all of your videos over the past couple of years, "lets get this out on a tray" is a permanent part of my vocabulary that I use on a daily basis.
Also, I love trying new MREs, and your videos have helped a lot in determining which ones to try next, thank you for doing this dude, you rock.
WHAT A TREAT. Literally gasped when I saw this video posted seconds ago! You're the best!!!!
Right on Greg! Alright cool, see ya
Same here Greg
Holy shit he spoke to me
And he's back, so well versed in his craft that a 4 month gap in uploads has no detrimental effect on the quality of the review. Welcome back, sir!
Steve is being held captive by the ration producers!!! All he can say is “nice”. Steve if you can hear this give us two nices and we will come and rescue you
Recently I haven't been able to eat because I never felt hungry so I went 2 days with only 1 meal each. Watching your videos makes me hungry again for some reason so thanks. I think it's because the way you describe each food/drink, it gives good imagery and it gets my appetite going.
Just said to my wife, “haven’t seen steve in a while”....checked page, posted 24 min ago!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Like getting a visit from an old friend, and you pick up right where you left off. Perfect way to wind down.
“All right let’s get this out onto a Customs Table...Nice”
Would have been the funniest shit if the customs agent realized who it was and sent steve a picture posing with the table.
Peace.
I am still at awe of how he is able to hold the full tray with no effort.
Steve looks like he carries pallets of bricks for a living, I'm sure a mess tray isn't much of a challenge for him.
Steve is what you see when you look up "man". He is the definition.
It's not just his ability to hold the tray, it's how he's able to steadily hold it. Zen of balance.
DYEL???
Look at his arms . Not exactly bean poles
Man... this is some serious addiction. After 4 months I kept constantly checking if steve had uploaded something new.
Ditto
I was beginning to lose hope thinking he quit yt or something

"Alright let's get this out onto the tray" I love the way he says that lmao
I honestly don’t know how anyone give Steve a thumbs down with how technical he is on these meals. Honest gentleman at its best
Indeed.
And a friend to all Mankind.
Probably some Vegan peacenik freaks... offended by "food of war" that typically contain animal products, in non recyclable plastic packaging
@@stinkyfungus lol dang I agree
If you've ever eaten a military issued ration while watching Steve eat a military issued ration you know the true meaning of a profound experience.
If only we could eat the same rations along with him, now that would be a deep meta experience.
I have ate a first strike while watching lol
Only once. Felt good. Like I was together with Steve and he was part of the squad. Made us all smile.
I had a few of the Finnish rations back in the day, and profound is not the first adjective I would be thinking of :D
Has the phrase, "This bread right here, let's listen..." every been uttered before, anywhere, since the dawn of time? Mr. Steve is a national treasure. Keep up the great work, my friend!
Probably. When baking, you can tap on the underside of a loaf to see if it's cooked through
These videos are strangely relaxing. He's like the Bob Ross of eating military rations. Alright, now I'm going to make myself a hot chocolate and watch the rest. Nice!
A+ analogy.
I love how his shirt says "consume, don't think"
My 13 year old daughter just asked me the other day, “Why hasn’t Steve1989 made any videos lately?” Most exciting news so far in 2021!!! “Nice hiss!!!”
Steve: “ i’m going to save this I’m just not going to stand here and eat it”

@@verymelee9115 PLSSSSS😂😂
@@canadiancaribou855 you know I'm right. That's the first thing we always think
yes I love his content you shouldn't have to disappear
I am honestly shocked that he didn't get botulism from that 1899 Boer War beef ration he ate. Especially since he could tell that it was off as he was cooking it and after the first few bites, but he kept eating it. I felt sure that he was going to get some sort of bad ailment from that...and he didn't. And wasn't it a modern 2019 Chinese ration that actually made him sick? Ironic.
But still, he must have a stomach of iron. I wouldn't touch most of these things that he eats.
When the world needed him most, he returned. Then disappeared again.
😭😭
Our hero is gone
The mystery of Steves whereabouts of late has been answered.... Hes been pumping up those biceps.

Curlz for the girlz, brother
Holy hell your not kidding look at those guns
And when the world needed him most, he came back...
Yasss!!!!!
Steve eating expired rations: “This tastes like something you’d get from a mediocre gas station vending machine or botulism on a stick. Lemme get another bite just to make sure ....”
Welcome back Steve!
I’m not sure you can you be proud of that horrible ration 😂
@@ABC-dw7pe now your just being rude and there was no need for it.
Now why would they give their soldiers yucky coffee?
@@mjrussell414 Its cheap
@@nopeyoudontknowmyname9153 The thing is, that good and varying food (and coffee) boosts the moral and effectiveness of a soldier. Eating the same boring crap everyday to some artificial coffee, and you have an easily pissed and moody company. And you don't want that.

Welcome from Russia 🇷🇺 🙋🏻♂️🌷
There are several varieties of tamales in Colombia and they're all really good. The only thing missing is that when you actually get it, it's wrapped in a banana leaf. And if you ever get a chance to get real Colombian hot chocolate, make sure you prepare it with milk and and some chunks of really melty cheese. It doesn't add anything extra to the chocolate, but it's the traditional way to drink it and it's delicious.
Cheese?
@@SwampCeeMcGee60 As confused as I am, huh? Why cheese, such a weird combination.
@@SwampCeeMcGee60 Just what I was going to ask...
These reviews and Steve are just enjoyable to watch. BTW, Thanks Steve, if you read this!
I was like "He's going to upload soon I know it.." Steve! I love you! we all do! stay safe please! I was going into craziness with stress this week and seeing a new ration video really calms and helps me out! You mean a lot, dude! Have a great night!
WELCOME BACK STEVE!!! Literally yelled so loud the other people in my apartment building are probably wondering if I’m ok
Por fin, la ración de mi País sale en este canal, estoy muy enamorado! Excelente video! Viva COLOMBIA
When it comes to food security and caloric density, condensed milk is one of the greatest inventions ever. It's tasty, it has fat, protein, and carbohydrates, it's shelf-stable, and it packs all of this into an insanely small space, making it easily portable.
I never knew sweetened condensed milk was delicious until Steve told me so. I had to get some and now I use it in coffee and tea. Thanks Steve!
It's a guilty pleasure of mine when strawberries come into season. A bowl of sliced berries covered in sweetened condensed milk!
I wonder if one of their sniffer dogs licked it.
They opened it, saw the ration, and said, "Nice."

So satisfying when he roles the pouch and squeeze everything out. No food goes to waste.
When I was in the service we trained the Colombain army and we had this type of ration. What the Colombians did in the morning was mix the coco powder, coffee sugar and the milk with water and dip the bread in the drink and some would soke the bread and eat it like a pudding.
I was gonna say, it looks thick enough to make a bread pudding with.
Thank you for your service
