Your name is hilarious.
Back in the early 90s, a Danish joke politician was elected on campaign promises that included more Nutella in Danish military rations. He wasn't part of any political party, and had little to do with Danish politics, but when the parliament was deadlocked on an issue (that I can't remember), his vote tipped the scale and his promise was fulfilled. Nutella was introduced in the Danish rations, to the great joy of many soldiers. The ration has changed again since then though.
The porridge package is a bit of a mystery package. We used to do a porridge roulette, since not all in my unit could stomach all types. It didn't help that the writing had a tendency to disappear. It's supposed to be eaten alone (or with cream).
The cocoa is good mixed with the coffee. Great for a morning guard duty pick-me-up.
Andvare really cool info man! Thanks for posting
Fun facts. Thanks for sharing!
that's the kind of politicians we need
Neat info! Thanks!
If only all politicians could keep their promises, even if they are just "more nutella".

Fun fact: The Danish rations are made in cooperation with Team Denmark, who trains many athletes, because the Danish Defence Forces view soldiers as elite athletes, and so the get many of the same nutrients. It is a really well balanced and thought out ration.
The Danish rations look good; taste good; and are nutritious.
The Russian ration has brains, literally, there's pig brains in a pouch.
That's as Metal as fuck, son!
Joshua brain and liver based pate is incredibly rich in iron.
I swear, every other country besides the US has figured out the ration game.
Meh, there's iron in other parts of the US MRE.
Also, liver pate is awful.
Pig brains; scrambled eggs; biscuits; and jam are a Southern treat (Southern USA that is).
Joshua I don't think it's that bad. US MRE's are honestly shit though.
>Also, liver pate is awful.

"I'm such a savage I even take the teabag out" so wholesome I'm dead
exactly
I never take the tea bag out. My family came from Northern Ireland & we put milk in our tea & keep the tea bag in the whole time we drink it. Nice & strong, but milky too.
My mother would keep the bag in and drink the same tea all day long (after drinking all of her breakfast tea, of course). She’d make tea at about noon, drink some, go back later & drink it cold. She would drink it for hours, so the tea cup always had several rings of tea residue after the tea sat at different levels for a while. I used to bleach those damn multi-ringed teacups when I visited.

The tuna with lime & pepper is also part of the German EPA ration and it has instantly become one of my favorite items.
It sounds so good; I'm a big fan of lime and feel like it isn't used in food nearly enough.
I don't subscribe often, but the militaria aspect grabbed my attention. I usually go more for the firearms and explosives side of warfare, but I've seen almost all of that. This channel is a pleasant and peaceful addition to military history. Well done!
Tower of Murder The explosions usually start about an hour after eating.
Tower of Murder Inc you're right, MRE's are another part of the military lifestyle and the MRE's tell a story about the country of origin.
I'm really digging the extra creative editing you're into now(the musical glasses, the disappearing food as you speak, working the tray into the regular dialog) I would say that tray was looking mighty happy after dinner, if the drinking glasses were eyes that is.
Here in Iceland we have an old habit of mixing salted peanuts and chocolate covered raisins in snack bowls at parties and such.. you should try that out! Love the videos :)
I wonder how that ration contents will be in 50 years like some of the other more vintage ones are you have shared with us?Always a class-act Steve. Sitting down to a meal or a snack and taking in one or two of your reviews is like dinner and a movie.
J.P. Stone had the same thought
If I'm not mistaken, Danish rations aren't designed for long term storage. Probably most if not all of that would go bad, specially the pâté.

Ex danish soldier here, can confirm, the raw bite is probably the least popular item in any of the ration combos.
whaaat? I thought it was the best part
Tak for din tjeneste!
I suppose it’s something you’d eat on your feet, more functional than palatable. The bar is probably meant to hide vitamin and fiber supplements.
When supply is late you learn to love Raw Bite and it comes in 4-5 variants, Cashnew is my fav.
My grandfather was from the French Alps. He used to make what he called "Country or Farmhouse Pate" and "City Pate" which is very similar to what you showed. The main difference between them is texture. The Farmhouse Pate he made had pieces of fat and meat throughout the smooth pate. Where as the City Pate was completely smooth throughout.
You have to wonder how many hundreds of thousands of soldiers repeat the phrases "Alright let's get this out onto a tray" and "Nice hiss" every day.
I'm guessing this is meant to be eaten straight from the packs.

Nice ! Review ! :) The Scandinavian rations are very rich. Thor is a great guy !
I just wonder why the Danes packed a pate from Czech Republic into the ration. The liver pate seems to be one of the national dishes - probably the economy won...
And mixing raisins with this oriental dish is a brilliant idea ! For me -as a person who lived in Denmark - is not surprising such oriental dish in the rations. There are many immigrants there and the Danes became open to new tastes.
And I like showing the cleaned/eaten tray :)
Delicious the national food of Denmark is Stægt flæsk med persillesovs
When I served 20 years ago they had a whole can, maybe 200g of Danish pate. Really surprised that they doesn't even have Danish bread in them any more. Guess it's to expensive to produce anything in this country.
I had a lot of family serving in the military growing up and i used to get some of the field rations when i saw my uncle. This is around 2000. And the two best items were definitely a blue can of danish lever postej (Liver Pate) and some rye crackers / biscuits. There were some other stuff which i cant remember all that clearly, besides some fruit bar.
It's ridiculous how interesting and fun you make MREs. I don't know why this makes me so happy, but man, you do great work.

The porridge has actually been kind of a staple of Danish MRE's for many years now. I had them in the ones I got in the early 2000's.
As a grunt, this ration looks well thought out and convenient.
I have noticed one thing when non danes are trying either whole wheat bread or danish rye bread. They are eating it wrong. You dont eat this kind of bread with sweet stuff like jam or something similiar. You eat it with the Paté. As a dane i can say for sure the Paté's is not intended for the biscuits. Its intended for the rye breads. The jam on the other hand, IS intended for the biscuits.
peter poulsen what about Danish rye bread with smoke salmon, scrambled eggs and some Moet champagne on the side? As a Dane Would you approve?
I'm a Dane too and I don't agree :) we Danes eat it however we want. Regards
It's not possible to eat food "wrong" unless you're shoving it up your ass.
If it’s up your ass, you’re not eating it.
@@maershkinschrabs7597 Generally at a Danish smørrebrød buffet the common thing to do with salmon is eat it on white bread. Works fine on dark rye as well though. The accepted beverages for smørrebrød are snaps for the fish courses, either more snaps or beer for the meat courses (and though it's a buffet, you're supposed to eat fish first then meat). Now you are ready to go undercover at a traditional Christmas lunch in Denmark.

Ktallica and they’re amazing for long hiking and fishing trips. Me and my younger brother went on a hiking trip through the Appalachian trail and they really came in handy. Lots of variety and the candy helps get you through the rainy dark times on the trail
Those rations changed alot over the years, only thing that remains the same is the biscuits and the fruit porridge. Both were great so they kept the best. The fruit porridge was the thing you ate on patrol when you were low on energy, keept it close to your body to heat it up in the winter, but not in a position where you would land on it if you had to take cover. Overall it looks much better than what we used. The old vacuum packed rye bread was horrible in a country that worships dark rye bread, but compared to this wall insulation "bread" i think i would have prefered the old rye bread.
