HOW TO INSTALL VINYL SIDING

  • This is a simple video of how to install vinyl siding. I know some steps are not exactly perfect but this is what I did to complete the siding on my garage and it's still in good shape.
    Here are some corrections that should have been done for longevity of the siding installation.
    Overlaps on the seams are a little to tight. There should be about 1 inch between the top lock separation. The siding usually will expand almost a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch on a full panel.
    I hope this video is helpful for you and thank you so much for watching.!

    Thank you for explaining how to overlap the vinyl correctly. Having not done this before, it never would have occurred to me that the seams aren't visible when viewed from one angle versus another.

    Good video. I like your concise but laid back approach. I do wish, however, that you had included a little more info. on the starter strip, specifically, how to install it correctly. I'm getting ready to start my first project and I understand it's important to get it level from the beginning and keep it level. Thank you.

      I appreciate the feedback! As long as the starter strip is level you will be good, keeping in mind you can make small adjustments all the way up the wall if you see something out of line.

    Do you alternate or scatter the joints so all are not at the same place up the entire wall? How do you do that? Like wood flooring of a 3 board spacing pattern?

    • @AverageGuyDIY
      @AverageGuyDIY  4 місяці тому

      Yes that's the idea. It will happen automatically, just take full pieces of siding and mount them to the wall until the last one. The last one will most likely be too long so you will need to cut it. Use the cut piece to continue the wall by taking it back to the original starting place (above the fist piece you placed). This will create the pattern.

    Hey nice video, one question, I am planning to use VOX siding and this manufacturer recommends to have a ventilation gap behind the pvc, by using some vertical wood pieces. How come you naild the pvc directly over the membrane? Thx

    • @AverageGuyDIY
      @AverageGuyDIY  2 роки тому +1

      I think it might have something to do with the weather difference. In Nova Scotia it only gets super hot in the months of July and August the rest of the year it can be pretty brisk. If you live in a hot area applying siding might be different.

    • @AverageGuyDIY
      @AverageGuyDIY  10 місяців тому

      The only time I've heard of that is when the siding was nailed to firm to the structure. You must leave room when nailing so that the siding has room to expand and contract because of heating and cooling.
