Ossetians are authentic and ancient Iranians.
Greetings to the people of Ossetia and to you from Iran.
Iranian wer is from india
No - it never was
Ancient India is not the current India.
Ancient India was in the south of Iran and the Khuzestan region of Iran, and present-day India had other names in the past, when about 2500 years ago, Iranians included present-day India as part of their satrap because its people and climate were similar to ancient Iran's India, hence the name "India". We Iranians put it on this satrap.
Still in Khuzestan of Iran or ancient and early India, about 40 villages and towns start with the name of India, but you don't see anything like this in present-day India, no city or village has the name of India or a combination of these names. (In archaeology, we have an important topic called toponymy)
It is interesting that the British later (around the 17th century) colonized what is now India, and when they went to the American continent, they called the natives of America Indians because they looked like the Indians of the subcontinent, which we now call the country of India.
It is interesting to name cities in America where natives gather, names like Indiana, Indianapolis, etc.
We Iranians gave this name to other peoples of the world who were similar to our Indians 2-3 thousand years ago.
More than 80% of the world's countries names have their roots in Iranian languege.
And that they say that Indo-European or Indo-Iranian languages mistakenly come to their minds as New India and they all blindly imitate each other. With the new scientific findings and evidence in sociology and archeology, it should be proved to the world that India was once a province of Great Iran and now it is part of present-day Iran. And these were the people who introduced the science of geometry and chess to the people of the world, not the people of the current Indian subcontinent, which bears the name of the ancient Indian province of Iran, Khuzestan province of iran.@@Perparim-gp1ef

I went to Belsan in 2009. I was guest of a group of families that suffered from the attack to School n.°1 in September 2004.
People of Beslan and Vladikavkaz. Even today, in 2023, I still remember the human warmth and kindness of all the people I met. People with a great heart, who had to face an enormous tragedy. A big hug to Tamaz, Kleb, and all old friends there. ❤
What was the motive of the attackers? Why did they act so crazy?
I could answer with geo political reasons (who were the terrorists? Who was the real leader behind them... did West play a role? which were the economic strategies about destabilize a critical region as Caucaso....) but I prefer to say that man has always a monster inside himself, and this weakness is used by big leaders to create sufference, war, poverty, etc. As long as there is war the big money will flow in bleeding pockets, and innocents die. In Caucaso such as in all other parts of the world.
What we can do is to think with our mind and not with newspapers owned by economics tycoon (both american than russian) and promote tolerance and forgiveness starting from our near families and friends.
Thinking sweet thoughts doesn't solve the problem. If people don't understand history from historical examples, they are ignorant and doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. For me it would be a quite difficult decision, were I would like to live. Kamschatka, Caucasus, Perm region, Krim or Lake Baykal are some of my favourite regions.
Some Russian media, youtubers included, reinforce this opinion on criminality and a place being dangerous. For example I saw recently Perm being classed as one of the worst places in Russia but if I’m not mistaken that’s Eli’s home and it seems very normal in her videos.
Looking up the weather it has a daily mean of about -1 degree Celsius in winter which makes it far more pleasant to live than a lot of Russian areas where you have to deal with something like -10. It also seems to get a decent amount of rain which also makes a place more livable in my opinion.

Would be cool to visit North Ossetia someday. Those Ossetian pies look delicious!

I'm a Honduran living in the US. I can't get enough of this. Russia, the steppe and caucuses fascinate me. How different from my own and yet oddly similar. I especially like her coverage of Yakutia. There has to be a convection between the Siberians and the latin American indians. I'm no expert, but we have to come from them.
yes, I've noticed many similarities between Siberians, indigenous and ethnic groups of Russia, and indigenous peoples in North and South America. I will try to research this myself as well but it would be so cool If Eli would also make a video about this.
The Siberian migration to North America happened 11,000 years ago and before, when there was an ice age. The Bering Sea between eastern Asia and Alaska was connected, so people could simply walk over to North America on the land bridge created by lowered seas, and lots of ice and snow. Oleg Balanovsky and Valery Ilyinsky have established that the earliest of these migrations happened 23,000 years ago. A lot of the people came from the Altai region (west of Mongolia) as discerned by DNA tracing analysis, and when they were passing through Siberia they could be called Siberians.
Also the Polynesians sailed from the islands of southeast Asia eastward. Their learned old people had the sky, stars, and horizon memorized. This was very complicated to do because the paths of the stars change throughout the year. So instead of telling direction by 360 degrees around the compass, they had memorized, for different times of year, the stars and their rising and setting places on the horizon. All that was their version of degrees of navigation direction along the horizon. Once a person got old and experienced enough to do that, he could be the navigator for large canoes and take his tribesmen on journeys for hundreds and then thousands of miles across the Pacific. But you had to know the exact angle to get from one little island to another. If you were off by a few degrees remembering where a particular star rises and sets this time of year, sayonara and you don't get a second chance unless you can catch enough fish. But even then you might die of thirst if you can't find the proper island and come ashore for fresh water. Not a lot of plastic bottles in those days, and your canoe can carry only so much for what has to be island hopping centuries ago. Even New Zealand wasn't inhabited until the early 1300's even though aborigines discovered Australia over 50,000 years ago. The difference is that Australia was easier to find and reach due to all the interconnecting little islands. New Zealand was a much bigger leap literally and mentally. Ancient travellers headed more directly eastward.
Centuries ago, the Polynesians definitely got as far east as Easter Island, and it became the only original Polynesian society to develop a system of writing. They undoubtedly went further to the east and landed on the coast of South America. But with the Incas and related tribes already established the Polynesians didn't stand a chance other than a little bit of one-to-one breeding activity before angered warriors killed off the invaders. The Araucanos for example were so fierce even the Spaniards never conquered them, and even in modern times they kill occasional interlopers who violate their territory. It took until the later 1800's for the Chileans to push them onto reservations. Jivaros in the Amazon are real-life headhunters who actually cut off and preserve as trophies the shrunken heads of their enemies, or claim to have quit doing so recently. On the other hand, many of the natives in Central America look exactly like modern Vietnamese, so the ancient tribes of Central America (being smaller and less organized) were more of an opportunity for settlement from Polynesia to mix in with the people who had come earlier from the north. Some of the Polynesians became simply Siberians and Yakutians and Chukchians who headed south instead of north, ending up in Honduras and nearby regions.
Good post@@jackieow
Not a lot, Yakutians and North American indians indeed but Mexican, Central American and South American Indians have very little to do culturally if at all with Yakutians even if they might share distant DNA relations. But so do Spanish and Russians and that doesnt mean they are close culturally.
@@cf6517 All indigenous peoples have similarities because they all have a similar way of life. If you go to Old Vikings, Celts, or Sami you'll see their way of live is very similar to those of Inuits or North American Indians because they were, lived in very similar fashion, yet culturally they still are different in a sense.

I totally understand the water of home! I love fresh, untreated water here in Australia. Clean water is incredible. So under rated, especially when so many people in the world don't have clean water.
You have no idea what a pleasure it is to drink tap water. When you don't need a filter. It's so nice. In Vladikavkaz, the water is one of the most delicious and clean.
Thank you Eli. I loved this video. It shows tradition and family are still very important, something that is lacking in many western countries. I am moving to Russia to be with my beautiful wife next year for this reason.
Eli, I absolutely adore your videos about Russia and the diversity of Russian culture and history. Your story telling is so natural and wonderful and your skill with music and video is exceptional. Please keep them coming. Thank you from an Irishman in Thailand. 🇮🇪💚🇷🇺

Like the old Russian proverb says, "Every pirate loves the smell of his own farts." The guy was born and raised there, so of course he loves the water. Humans are hard-wired to have territorial loves and affinities that go to where they originated. Not just their water, but their culture, dances, language, food, religion, weather, vegetation, and daily habits. People with happy childhoods tend to like to return to them, and doing so is in our genes. Like salmon returning to their ancestral spawning grounds from hundreds of miles away in the ocean.
If he had been born and raised somewhere else, that is the water he would love. Now his water may be better than the water where you or I live, but that doesn't make his personal life water better than the next guy's. It's just a jingoistic chauvinistic attitude that is hard-wired into people's way of thinking, and it leads in extreme cases to the philosophy of "I am better than you" and the extensions that gave the world Nazis and similar types. He isn't that haughty, but such attitudes put people on that spectrum and can lead to the "my way is best" syndrome. Which leads to wars and lesser misfortunes. Education on the other hand, including travel with an open mind, tends to train people to be more open, more tolerant, and less inclined toward getting a fixation on "my way is best because it's my way."
He has mountain stream water. Good. There are lots of mountain stream waters, and many of them are probably as good if not better. And in all of them, just in case, it pays to be on the lookout for pestilences like Giardia and amoebic dysentery. Even in higher mountains such as the Himalayas. Remember all those little crypt houses in the cemetery necropolis, where people died of cholera? Cholera gets spread in the water, and habitually is one of the problems in Ossetia and even higher places like Nepal. It may look good, and it may taste good, and it may smell good. But that is not a guarantee that the water will actually be good and not kill you with a devastating organism like the cholera bacteria. Further, a person can be habituated to their own wonderful water but get dysentery if they travel. And vice versa.
A girl I knew in college went to India and got horrible dysentery, then her intestines learned to tolerate the local amoebas and all was well. But she was switched over, so when she came back to the United States a year later she got horrible United States dysentery that her system had forgotten to resist. When I went to South America I warned one of my friends to be careful about the water. The know-it-all's attitude was: "I'm from here, so I have nothing to worry about." Yeah, and she sat on the porcelain throne for 8-10 hours a day for the first week because she thought she was immune. She didn't recognize she had habituated to United States amoebas while losing her resistance to South American amoebas. And it kind of complicated getting ready for her own wedding ceremony.
She was lucky it wasn't cholera, which can easily be fatal due to losing 5 gallons a day of diarrhea fluids and the sodium and potassium that leaves dissolved in the 5 gallons. Another one to watch out for is typhoid fever, especially on local fruits and vegetables. A little soaking in dilute Clorox with a spot of detergent (to break water surface tension) is good insurance against Montezuma's Revenge anywhere in the world. I didn't get into trouble in Latin America probably because I had zero raw water exposure the first day, a drop the second day, then partial teaspoons and then a tablespoon until I could handle the local water just fine after a week of playing careful. Travel entails certain precautions or else you may have to pay an unpleasant price. With intestinal maladies and a thousand other things.

I first saw it in print over 50 years ago. And that's tame compared to other Russian jokes.@@MaryJones-fs4wf
As an American, I love discovering USSR❤ I am currently in Uzbekistan, I film Walking video tours for UA-cam just for free. It is my passion!
The USSR no longer exists for 30 years
There no longer is a USSR.
I had a very limited view of Russia because of the Western media. But in reality, Russia is surprising.
Russia's ethnic diversity is impressive. Russia has more than 100 languages and more than 50 ethnic groups. This is beautiful!
Same here. I am from USA and very limited exposure of the diversity and beauty of Russia.
193 peoples, 277 languages
Western media is basically Jerusalem/Holywood/NY media ... it's not western demographics centered.
That's because Russia invaded them
What a beautiful tradition, that the older relatives of the groom go to the bride's house to ask for her hand.
it makes sense - all of them take responsibility for young family and their future children
The view the scenery the nature the culture all are same to same like my countryside we have same snow capping mountain greenery and beautiful places in northern Pakistan 😍❤️
The more you show us the more fascinating Russia becomes! Thanks for sharing.
Eli, frankly speaking, you are exploring lands which are terra incognita to many people. You deserve an Oscar.
It's always amazing to travel with you, Eli. In Russia!
A short but packed video, showing the vibrancy, beauty and traditional culture of the place. Thanks for another eye opening upload.
Thank you Eli for this amazing documentary and my warm greetings to Ossetië.❤
ELI ❤YOU. I LIKE ALL YOUR EPISODES. IM INDIAN. I ❤ RUSSIANS VERY MUCH.
Hi Eli!
In Ossetia and generally in the Caucasus you can see and hear customs and traditions that deeply touch the soul. Seeing these people celebrating in these ancient customs, it seems like they want to celebrate the grandeur of the looming natural landscapes that are around.
We feel in marriage that the union is very sacred and must be celebrated in the best possible way. However, the part of the bride who must not only remain aloof but also standing and still is less pleasant.
I know that Caucasian cuisine is very good, in fact, that dish you showed us is one of many.
The city of the dead intrigues me a lot as well as being a fascinating archaeological site.
Thank you for showing us and introducing us to wonderful new realities that deserve to be visited.
Greetings and a hug.
I really love the traditions and meaning, the communal nature and importance given to the wedding. Being hidden away in such beautiful nature, with people you love, who needs more than that? Stay hidden as long as possible! Lovely strong warm people. Great video from the greatest videographer. You're always a pro, and always beautiful 🎉 Good Morning wherever you are!
I love this Caucasus series❤
Ossetians are relatives to Iranians ❤❤
This is fascinating. We're looking at the descendents of the Alans, a tribe of Indo-Iranian steppe nomads from late antiquity. By extension that means the people who, several thousand years earlier, took the middle east by storm (with horses and chariots) and brought a language related to this one to Persia and the surrounding areas. Iranians may look closer to Arabs in appearance but linguistically they have more in common with Europeans, which is just incredibly ironic considering world events right now
Tajiks and pamiri people look no different from Europeans. Only Persians look middle eastern due to Arab invasion. Other Iranic groups retain there ancient looks
Iranic not Indo Iranian. Alans are after the split and the emergence of the Iranic peoples. And I am Lur from Iran and look nothing arab.
@@IranLur You are misunderstanding me, and I get that. Actually, that's my entire point, the original "Iranic" people looked nothing like modern Persians, but mixing after taking over gradually changed the dominant phenotype. Here's the timeline _from what modern archeology understands_
1. Indo Europeans emerge somewhere on the steppes in Eastern Europe; probably the Pontic-Caspian steppe around 6000BC-4000BC. Exactly when & where is up for debate still
2. Their first migration leads them to conquer large sections of Anatolia not long after, bringing their language to the middle east for the first time. Again, they mix with the locals and their children begin to take on those physical traits.
3. Later, they push into Europe and all but wipe out the indigenous population there; the Basques are _possibly_ the only remnant, except for DNA in modern populations particularly mitochondrial
4. Around this time there is another migration to what is now Iran. The Medes for example, who eventually brought down the Neo-Assyrian Empire
5. For the region you are referring to we're talking about late antiquity. A tribe called the Alans, which is their word for "Aryans". They war with everyone from the Romans to the Turks (who gave them hell), but ultimately settled in Ossetia and their descendants remain there today. This is what I was talking about
I left some things out because this is already a long freaking post. The Aryan migration to the Indian subcontinent for example, which brought Sanskrit. Anyway, you're free to dispute if you'd like but the data is all there from centuries of archeology, linguistics, and genetic studies. Yes, there are even people with light hair and eyes in places like Afghanistan _because_ of these migrations and interbreeding with the local, conquered population by the new elite class of invaders
@@jakeg3733 The Iranic people whose identity was formed in Western Central Asia originally mixed with the BMAC population of the area. The BMAC population was primarily composed of Iranian Neolithic and Anatolian Farmer DNA.The average Modern Iranian DNA consists of:
40-60% Iranian Chalcolithic Ancestry (Neolithic Iranian & Anatolian Farmer DNA)
20-30% Sintashta Andronovo Ancestry (Aryan-Steppe DNA)
10% Caucasian Ancestry (Caucausian Hunter-Gatherer DNA)
0-10% Natufian Ancestry (Semetic DNA)
We are primarily of the same admixture as those from South-Western Central Asia that began migrating into Iran.
@@IranLur Awesome, thanks for giving the exact numbers. That's very, very interesting but it makes sense and is representative of many modern populations, Europeans included. A small group of invaders may replace the original language and culture but the indigenous population will live on through the DNA they transmitted. I am actually really surprised that you don't have any Turkic DNA, or at least not a statistically significant proportion of it considering the events of 1000-1900AD. Likewise for the small amount of Semitic DNA. Endogamous practices I suppose?
The Parsis in India have managed to largely preserve their ancient Persian genetics, language, culture, and religion by essentially doing what the Jews did in medieval Europe (although in the latter's case there is significant amount of _extremely_ ancient 15k year old southern European mtDNA in modern populations, probably from the male migrants from the Levant taking local wives upon arriving in Europe)
The only relatively homogenous populations are probably in places like Saudi Arabia and Yemen where I'd bet Semitic DNA dominates, although I'd have to check the data on that
Anyway, I appreciate your response with actual hard data. It's interesting stuff I want to dig through again, particularly the data on the Neolithic populations in that region. I have a lot of burning questions regarding exactly who they were and how they tied into the birth of urban civilization, Sumeria and the Harrapan civilizations in particular because my understanding is that those two cultures likely originated from the original neolithic populations (pre-Semitic) that had been in the region for millennia. I'm not buying the Dravidian hypothesis
Hello Eli! So many brides in this video, you'll be the next!! Aside from joking this country is really beautiful and its landscapes are amazing. Nice people, good food (I should compare their cheese with ours to say which is better), historical sites....A great video. Thank you very much and take care.
Her last husband is said to have died in the prime of his youth at the age of 80.😰😩😢 Now she has to do something to keep her head above water because she's experiencing an investment backlog. I, for example, would be out of the question because I am A too poor and B too young to build up a fortune quickly enough! The best I can do is make myself useful in an unpaid internship and then not even get a very good assessment. Do you even know how exhausting forging documents can be, Эли can certainly sing songs about it when "correcting" some wills. The film "The Counterfeiters or Die Fälscher" provides inspiration. Not even the FSB can do that as well as in this film, as far as I DO NOT know!😅😁😉
What you don't know you can maybe figure out from Das Leben der Anderen.@@Jesina_Diggerina
I guess you can say that some people in the West see weddings as being about the bride. My mom has described weddings as being about the parents (her experience). And Ossettian weddings are about the community--everyone else gets an excuse to have fun, and that seems to be more the point. The bride and groom are symbols for the day.
wonderful video: history, nature, tradition/customs, dancing, music, girls...and the food...i love seeing the food.

Hi Eli! Lee here in Atlantic City New Jersey. I enjoyed this adventure as I have been enjoying many of your treks to places I never have known about. Those pies looked so delicious! That whole area looks so healthy and calm and peaceful! Thanks for continuing your adventures and sharing them with us outsiders! I'm glad you are well again! Be careful and safe!
One reason why I like your videos so much is you take us to new places and show us beautiful views and history and culture and customs and cuisine that many of us did not know existed. Thank you for your passion and talent and hard work. So sad about that cholera epidemic and those tombs. By the way, Eli, the letter O in the word tomb is prononced like the letters OO in the word moon. You pronounced it like the letter O in the word comb. Yes, the English language is crazy. We Americans have to learn its idiosyncrasies too!
Thanks, pronounced tomb also in a wrong way as it should rhyme on the word comb...😱😉
No, Harry Decker is right. English is irregular as to spelling and pronunciation, and there is no predictability unlike other languages with a more logical spelling tradition and practice. In Russian there is the name Gyorgi. In English the same name is George. If you pronounce the English version letter by letter, you can tell English used to pronounce George as its original form "Gyorgi" even though today we say "Jorj." It's obvious English has changed from the spelling but Russian has stayed constant for his one word. Today knight and night are pronounced the same. But centuries ago the hard k was pronounced for knight. This is why people who long ago acquired the family name of Knight sometimes spell it KenKnight, to emphasize the correct original version.
But I knew off the bat what she was saying, and I'm no linguist, just an old Canadian retired hard rock miner.
Totally right. Nobody needed to make an issue of it in the first place.@@frederickmoller
@@frederickmoller I know. But since Eli teaches English as well as Russian, I correct her once in a while. A few years ago I pointed out to her that she was saying "pogrom" when she meant to say "program." Big difference.
Many of you video in the past, and this one, brings tears to my eye's. I so much want to experience this -- with my other half. If possible, I fully intend to sail here. This was incredibly fascinating. The marriage ceremony still has me with questions. The sadness of the bride is something that is culturally shocking. Great job, as always, Eli with regards to the cinematography.
Yeah, the marriage tradition is a bit creepy. Hopefully with UA-cam and the Internet, they'll move into the 21st century.
@@sarahlongstaff5101 Они и так в 21 веке, только они в своём нормальном 21 веке, а не в вашем «цивилизованном» (безумном) 21 веке.
@@sarahlongstaff5101 See that's the problem. As outsiders you're not supposed to interject other marriage/culture onto others. They love their ceremonies just the way they are. If it's creepy to you, then don't say anything. This is why everyone hates westerners around the globe.
Please don't judge something or someone you do not know anything about!!! You are mistakenly taken the modesty of the bride for sadness! IN NORTH OSSETIA-ALANIA THE BRIDE MUST SHOW MODESTY WHEN SHE MEETS ELDERS - WOMAN OR MAN! Looking straight to the eyes of elderly people REGARDED as very rude in our culture! That's why she must look down not to offend anyone around! But it doesn't mean she is not happy! Our girls marry only the man they WANT TO MARRY! Nobody can force them! That is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE IN OSSETIA! BY FORCING SOMEBODY TO MARRY IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE AND WILL GET YOU IN PRISON! ☝️
