Ryno is one of the more sensible you tubers. He appreciates a diesel for what it is and keeps them and doesn’t jump to the next model because it’s new. Smart man unlike some others

Not sure if u will see this but I started out in a gas ford ranger and just kept it running until I was in the financial position to purchase my dream truck a 1997 dodge ram 2500 12 valve cummins. I just graduated high school and am going to college to further myself in my education although I am currently running a hardscape/ landscape design company and keeping the Blue collar movement alive! Love the videos and the message that you preach

I did landscaping for a while and I absolutely loved it. I work in a nursery yard for perennials, shrubs and trees and I enjoy it and it's a difficult job to do professionally and correctly sometimes but it has its perks. Keep it up, good luck and keep up the #WORKFORIT movement!

Could not have said it better myself. My son watches you and I'm a sub because he told me about you. I've have over the years 3 diesels and he's been around them and I've always preaching to him " don't buy a diesel truck because you can afford one, buy a diesel truck when you can afford to fix one"

    • @TacticoolVIKINGBeard
      @TacticoolVIKINGBeard 5 років тому +1

Thank you for teaching your son this. Very wise. I'm gonna be 30 next year and I know for a fact I cant afford to own a diesel. I own a 19 year old Nissan xterra 6cyl and its a royal pain to afford that when it breaks. I want nothing more than to own a diesel truck but my family's needs come first. Its. Goal to work for and an investment but not a necessity. Hopefully he carries this knowledge when he goes to get his hands on his first diesel and teaches his own children about it if they are thinking about the lifestyle. Its expensive and enjoyable but we must do what me must to make sure our families and ourselves are taken care of first.

Great advice! After owning a few cars basically just to get me to work and back I bought my first truck a few years ago at 21. I wanted something with a little more power, something I could tow a decent size trailer with and use to plow and hall stuff when I need to. But, no i did not buy a diesel. Why? Well the biggest reason, at the time I could not afford a diesel. Nor did I feel like I would really *need* one in the following years. So, I bought an 03 Silverado 1500. And I waited to find one with relatively low miles because I knew I’d be keeping it for a while. Now did it tow the best when I first got it? No. But I saved up a little more, put a towing cam in it, added some airbags and a few other things, tuned it myself with hp tuners and now it’s honestly perfect for my needs. Now It tows my custom scrap trailer & car hauler all the time like nothing. And it also pulls a 30 ft camper here and there and let me tell you it pulls this thing like it was born to. So it just goes to show if your not hauling super heavy you really don’t *need* a diesel you can absolutely get by no problem with a gas truck.

Thank you Ryno for explaining this. I'll be 30 next year and I still have a gas 2000 Nissan xterra 6cyl with 265,000 miles. I like it a lot and it definitely gets me through the winters in upstate NY. I love diesel trucks and I grew up in an area where they are fully useful but let's face it, just like you say it is definitely not needed. They are VERY expensive. I bust my ass day in and day out for $14.50/hr and i have 3 kids. Its not about easy thing to pay for when you are the average working man or woman. Go gas for your first vehicle and learn about what your driving and what you can actually afford before you get into the world of diesels. I want NOTHING MORE THAN TO GET A DURAMAX... but let's face it I just cant afford it currently. I have obligations as a father and a husband to make sure that my family is taken care of before I even think about making this decision. I am currently working on my credit and hopefully in a few years I'll be able to afford an older diesel but like Ryno states all the time... you need to #WORKFORIT.

I really like deisel but with being up north ware it gets -20F deisel fuel jells up. Also with gas trucks getting better and better and the new stupid restrictions on diesel engines. Unless you're pulling every single day 15k pounds or more I think if I really think thro it 🤔gas is better for me.

I have a 2018 GMC Sierra 3500 HD with the 6.0l gas engine and pull my 13k pound fifth wheel I live in full time around. So far does just fine. Honestly, very few people actually 'Need' diesel trucks, everybody just wants them for either the torque, or to look cool. Sure, the torque on a diesel is gonna get you up a hill way faster than my truck will, but for the 10k dollars I didn't spend I can afford to show up a little bit later. But that's just my theory.

I’ve owned two diesel trucks and honestly The only reason I bought them was because I was assuming they were just unstoppable reliable beasts but now a days with the epa crap they are the biggest POS out there I think my next truck will be a Toyota Tundra. I wouldn’t recommend getting a diesel truck for your first vehicle. Get a TOYOTA! Unless you are pulling 10k pounds daily nobody needs a diesel besides to look cool.

Dont get an eco diesel! A coworker had her engine blow up and sieze geting on the road blocking traffic. My neighbor always had issues and in the shop. He happily tradded for a gas truck. Trust me, if you go 1500, go gas. Go 5.3L as they are long lasting and trusting motors with more power then you think with economy that 6.2L dont have. My 2005 silverado pulled 10,000 to 12,000 lbs double what its suppose to without issue.

Haha I feel like I live in the opposite world. I grew up always climbing up into my dad’s ‘98 Dodge Ram and ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted a Toyota Tacoma (yes not a diesel truck, but it’s a size I feel comfortable driving in and I absolutely love how they look, past and present). All of my friends drive sedans/luxury vehicles and they all keep telling me I shouldn’t get a truck because it’s “too big” or it “isn’t fuel efficient enough” or “the insurance is too high”. I still really want one to fulfill this hole in my heart of having a truck cause I was so familiar with them my whole life, but I’m not planning on going into a work field where I would require a truck and I don’t do many outdoor activities that would make having one a necessity. I’m kind of stuck in this weird limbo where logically I shouldn’t get a truck, but I want one so badly (I honestly can afford to probably get a used one cause I have an income and fairly decent credit for a 20 year old already). One day, hopefully soon I can finally get that dream truck, I just get worried about if it’s the wrong life decision or not.

As bad as I wanted a full size 2500, I just knew I didn't NEED one and would be much better off with the little brother. Got the 2.8l miniMax after researching for a couple years. It's been an amazing little diesel, averaging 25.5 MPG loaded down with tools was definitely worth the extra $3700 for the diesel option.

May want to rethink that supercharger. They are great power builders but not a great idea for towing. The increased temp load from towing will really be compounded by the super charger.

My first truck was a gas I owned for 6 years and never had a single problem and wasn’t in the shop one time. What I want to know is, will the trucks longevity and fuel efficiency of a Diesel be worth the upkeep.

I would like one for long trips across the country and because diesels last long if you take care of them like you said but right now I have a hard time taking car of my gas v8 so yeah I’m not ready for a diesel truck yet

Can I just say, for the love of everything great and holy in the world, unless it's going to be a show truck like Rynos, don't even consider or look at 3/4 ton diesels or anything with less than an 8' bed on it. You can get whatever cab style you want or brand as long as it's a 1 ton with an 8 foot bed on it. I honestly don't even know why they make 3/4 ton diesels. They aren't any more efficient, with the same engine as a 1 ton the little extra weight shouldn't play any difference in fuel economy to a good diesel. It's also not going to ride that much worse unless you're just a big baby or you're old or disabled, that's your only excuse.
3/4 ton diesels is like saying 'Oh, lets take the most powerful engine in the HD truck world and put it in the smallest least capable truck frame and suspension that's offered!' For example, Ford puts their 6.7L diesel in their 6500 truck line... All the 3 big manufactures have such big large capable diesel engines that they're rated to do a lot and putting them in a 3/4 ton truck is utterly useless and a waste of money and fuel. If you want your money back in resale value, get yourself a 1 ton long bed because all the people buying trucks with 150-200k+ miles on them all they give 2 shits about is using it to work with, abusing it, and being able to have the most capabilities they can get for the best price. No one wants a 3/4 ton truck especially with a standard or short bed on it because it's hardly safe to tow very much with it and its bed is useless to everyone that actually does anything. Heck you can barely even put a four wheeler in it and still have the tailgate up, or a dirt bike. There's no excuse to not getting a 1 ton when it's max 3k more in price and you get 100% more capability.
Now, if they made a different engine for the 3/4 ton diesel trucks that was smaller, lighter, and more efficient but could still tow maybe 14 or 15k pounds then it would be perfect. A capable diesel truck that gets 20 mpg or better (especially if deleted) and still tows a good amount. But having any of the bigger diesel engines in a 3/4 ton truck is an insult to that engine and it's capabilities. Might as well just buy a prius and cummins swap it.
