Not underrated with my crew. I remember us sitting around outside the mobile home on the shore of Kootenay Lake, in the mountains of British Columbia in the early 70s, enjoying some good food, good home grown and the latest Humble Pie album. Not a bad youth, not a bad youth at all.

Stephen Peter Marriott (30 January 1947 - 20 April 1991) was an English musician, songwriter and frontman guitarist of rock bands Small Faces (1965-1968 and 1975-1978) and Humble Pie (1969-1975 and 1979-1983), spanning over two decades. Marriott was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of Small Faces. On Friday 19 April 1991, Marriott and Poulton[77] flew home from the United States, where Marriott had recorded songs for a future album with Frampton. During the flight, according to Poulton, Marriott was drinking heavily, was in a foul mood, and the two argued constantly. After arriving in the UK, a mutual friend met them and they all went for dinner to one of Marriott's favourite restaurants, The Straw Hat in Sawbridgeworth, where he consumed more alcohol. After dinner, they returned to their friend's house and decided to stay overnight, since it was late, but upstairs in bed, Marriott and Poulton continued to argue. Poulton finally fell asleep and later woke to discover that Marriott had taken a taxi to his home in the nearby village of Arkesden. At about 6:30 am on 20 April, a passing motorist saw the roof of Marriott's cottage ablaze and called the fire brigade. It was reported that four fire engines were needed to put out the fire.

When Steve Marriot was in the Small Faces they did a song with a very pretty Pp Arnold called "(If you Think) You're Groovy". That song and Fleetwood Mac's "Silver Springs" have always put shivers down my spin. The Small Faces biggest hit is "Itchycoo Park" but it is really pop. I prefer "Tin Solder" (they've a live version with Pp Arnold singing back up somewhere).

1973 L.A. Coliseum Humble Pie, with BlackBerries. Live is an unbelievable spiritual. Steve kept playing till management cut bands power off. We kept yelling, MORE.
I have loved Steve Marriott from his mod days in the 60’s with Small Faces all the way with Humble Pie! Nuthin’ compares to that man’s voice! Check out his very early stuff like Tin Soldier, a song he wrote for the woman who became his first wife. Number one singer of all time to me!
On a side note to my previous comment, its always bugged me that Marriott has never really been given good recognition over the years especially after his death which was basically none existing in the media at the time. I've always waited for a real die hard documentary about the man, I mean I don't think there's been anyone more underrated in music hall of fames. Netflix or someone should get all the greats and there's still some left out there that know the score, get them all together to pay real tribute in a documentary. Also he was a man that stood up against the fascist and the racism and expressed his opinions through music on those subjects wich has long been forgotten I think. Glad even in some corners of world hes been heard again for first time for many. Talking about racial struggles and prejudices, check out humble pie ALABAMA 69, Steve's protest song when will we be free
Well said, couldn't agree more. Have also been thinking of "Alabama 69" during these times of racial unrest in the US. Perfect song for our times. Steve's life would make a fascinating movie/documentary . His rags to riches to rags to (hopefully) redemption story is amazing. Amazon does have a documentary "The Life and Times of Steve Marriott", but it's a bit lacking in my opinion. Although he is relatively unknown by people in the US, I have been told by British friends that he is considered one of the "greats" in the UK, and I have read dozens of accolades from fellow musicians such as Jagger, Richards, Bowie, Townshend, Daltry, Page & Plant, Iggy Pop(!), Paul Weller, Jack White and more who consider him one of the best Rock/soul singer Britain ever produced. I think that respect is what he would have wanted most. RIP Steve.
Hey , it was me. I don't know you, but I knew you'd love this. Steve Marriot was the real thing - a mad british bluesman with a giant heart. 30 Days in the Hole, Humble Pie. And to think Peter Frampton was killing it on guitar as well as Steve. Really enjoy watching your journey through music. Keep going forward. Music keeps you young. Reflections : the Marmalade. Peace
Hey, Sweetie. Those of us who were kids in the 70's were listening to some gooood stuff. All those great British rock bands showing their love for American blues & soul. Among them, little Stevie Marriott singing his little butt off. I think you'd like "30 Days in the Hole" and "I Don't Need No Doctor". Btw, I spent the wee hours of Saturday night/Sunday morning binging your Chris Stapleton reactions (my fellow Kentuckian whom I love!) along with Marc Broussard & Stevie Ray Vaughan. I really like your attitude, personality & overall way you're doing reactions. I'm about to happily hit the "subscribe" button. I'd love to see you do some Queen. I don't know if you've been avoiding the trend of Queen reactions for the past few months, but there's a reason for that trend. There's a gazillion of us Queen fans, of all ages, who enjoy seeing people discover more about them. I'd love to see you start with the original video of "Bohemian Rhapsody". Then it'd be great to see you do the studio version of "Somebody to Love", followed by the live version (Montreal '81). Same song, but a good comparison..one shows how good they were in the studio & the other how great they were live. Plus, Freddie Mercury's love of Aretha Franklin is what inspired him to write a gospel-tinged song. You'd generate a lot of smiles by putting them into the mix. They're legendary & beloved for good reason. Love your style. Also loved the pic of you & your lovely wife and the adorable canine members of your family.💙 Keep up the good work!

Humble Pie was the first concert I went to, in the early 70s. I chased that high for the next 40+ years and saw over 50 of the best bands to ever play...Good times!
A good thing would be to react to the Small Faces , singing "Tin Soldier", same lead singer Steve Marriot, singing with PP Arnold. Steve Marriot , one of the best rock singers in history. Also, the Small Faces, All Or Nothing is well worth a listen.
Jamel, FANTASTIC..you have great taste!!! Been a Pie fan for YEARS!!! Glad you loved it!!!! Steve tragically died in a fire in the 1990s. Amazing song!!!
Great to hear Humble Pie again. Even greater is to see your enjoyment of this music. Soon I'll be going into my seventh decade of life, but hearing these tunes I can close my eyes and relive my youth. Thanks.
Steve Marriott was BADASS !!! RIP. ALso..if you've ever heard of Peter Frampton, he was in this band up until '71. Just remembered...they did a live cover version of the Yardbirds' 'For your love'. excellent!
Frikin' house fire. Of all the ways to go out. Was always haunted by the cheeky Cockney tag especially with the song 'Lazy Sunday Afternoon'. Stunning vocalist. Whispering Bob intro too. Great review
I saw them live in concert in Utica, New York in 1974. Steve Marriott was one of the best rock vocalists of the classic rock era and extremely high energy!👍
Sir, you're reaction was priceless!! I know the song well and knew what was coming, and had a feeling you might be surprised and dig it!! I knew Stevie Marriott and got to play with him, not long before he tragically passed in a house fire. Today is the 30th anniversary of his death, so I was randomly looking for some of my favorite music of his to listen to and stumbled across your video, which I really enjoyed. As a little bit of trivia, the guitarist on this track, Clem Clemson was called in for a studio session nearly 20 years after this to re-record a short version of the song for a coffee advert on TV, and they genuinely didn't know the session guy they had booked was the guitarist on the original record in 1973. They asked him if he recreate the guitar part :-) He said...."I think I'll be able to manage! :-D
I'm a Humble Pie fan, loved your reaction, just imagine seeing them live! Steve Marriot was like a white version of James Brown yet he was a little guy with a huge voice. Thank you for posting
Steve had one of the greatest voices ever! So sad how Steve Marriott died in a house fire, what a loss. I used to be in a band with the son of the guitarist, good times. Greetings from the UK.
Steve Mariott was a really talented musician, vocalist, and songwriter. He just seemed to get bored with the bands he was in. When the small faces started getting popular overseas in America, and the band mates started getting really into themselves and squabbling over what to do and where to go next, Steve left the band and started Humble Pie with Peter Frampton. The heavy touring schedule around the world started to wear on him like it did with the Small Faces, so he folded that band and started another project. He wasn't a terrible guy to be around, he was just restless. He did leave behind a legacy of music that is amazing and inspiring for anyone that likes the blues revival music from England. It's a shame he died a relatively young guy in an accidental house fire. He started taking control of his life, quit the rock and roll lifestyle with the drugs and whatnot. Still had the occasional drink but didn't get blasted... it was just strange how he died. The world misses him dearly.
"my skin is white but my soul is black"....dig it.....R.I.P., Steve.................I think that's Peter Framptom on 2nd guitar (yes, THAT Peter Frampton)
This band was formed by Steve Marriott of the Small Faces and Peter Frampton of The Herd, both very successful British groups from the 60’s, and well worth looking up. Steve Marriott had one of the best voices in the industry; he tragically died in a house fire in 1991. What a loss .
Saw Humble Pie with Grand funk railroad, and Heads hands and feet at the free Hyde park concert in '71, Great live band, and Steve Marriot was so underrated at the time, one of Britains great vocalists.
I first heard Steve Marriot in The Small Faces with their song called Itchycoo Park. Loved the song and thought for certain it was a woman singing. Years later I realized it was a man singing. What a huge talent. Since then I've learned more about him, his life and his tragic death. He was underestimated because he was small in stature, but I will always think of him as a giant.
I was 10 when this song came out. Our neighbours were GI's and loved such great music. That 's why I had heard Humble Pie before my parents made me familiar with bands like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones ( Yes, they didn't like German Schlager). My neighbours also introduced me to Delta Blues and stuff back in the day. My very first record that I ever bought was 'Ogden's Nut Gone Flake ' by The Small Faces which brings me right back to Humble Pie. Great band, great song and adequate reaction:))).
Can we please talk about the ladies. The Blackberries..... They were backup singers from MOTOWN that did back up for anybody that was anybody in the 70s. Clydie King (aka Brown Sugar), Venetta Fields, and Sherlie Matthews. I have only recently discovered them because of this reaction. Thank you Jamal from your number one fan 😸😸 So now my new music quest began too
Steve Marriott is a gem. Before Humble Pie, he was in Small Faces. After he left, they replaced him with Rod Stewart (who would go on to become a star in his own right) and changed their name to the Faces. And Humble Pie had as their other guitar player the great Mr. Peter Frampton, another one who would go on to stardom.
Steve Marriott is one of the greatest vocalists of all time sadly missed but never forgotten.

Was blessed to see this band twice and peterframpton too.. I blasted this to a nosy neigbor..too funny..music as a weapon..ty elroy!!! My mentor..kkkrankkk it up!!! Ps nobody tops original..but Marriott really hit it, edgar winter another white vocalist hit it too..listen to lets get it on..live both excellent!!! Ty 4 opening ur wars to a white musician actually owning being a 70s culture vulturr
There was so much soul pouring out in that studio, you can feel it still today.
Steve Marriott could definitely saaang.
1973 L.A. Coliseum Humble Pie, with BlackBerries. Live is an unbelievable spiritual. Steve kept playing till management cut bands power off. We kept yelling, MORE.
I saw this band several times in the early 70's . Awsome Band. Steve was one of the greatest.
Humble pie just plain kicked ass! Steve Marriot was an under appreciated genius! Saw them live in 1973 and they brought the house down..
Steve marriott is a legend! One of the best front men I ever seen. RIP original godfather
Peace
WOW. All that voice outta that little man. Those backing vocalists helped him nail this thing DOWN!!! Loved it. Thanks Jamel!!
Also loved the pic of you & your lovely wife and the adorable canine members of your family.💙
Keep up the good work!
I’m familiar with Queen 👍🏾 it’s just a lot of music have copyright laws😔that’s why a lot of reactors pause and skip the songs. I just can’t do it pausing and skipping GREATNESS
Thank you for Subscribing🙏🏾
The sad bag of Shaky Jake is good also.
His most amazing perfomance is actually on Stone Cold Fever
Did you see them in Louisville in like 73 or 74? Floor seating 6th row!!!!’
One of my favorite live clips by any band
Lawdy have mercy. Never heard this. Amazing!
Incredible 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Never heard of him but love it
@@valariewright8516 Once you do hear Steve Marriott and watch his vids, you're hooked.
Steve Marriot is widely considered one of the greatest, most soulful (soulfilled) rock vocalists if all time.
Check out HUMBLE PIE: ROCKIN THE FILLMORE- "I DON'T NEED NO DOCTOR"
absofuckinglutely!!!! The whole album... "Stone Cold Fever"....
Great Song! Nice to see people enjoying one another...Blessed are the Peacemakers....
I love Humble Pie, and it does my heart good to see ya grooving to this one man...... Nice!
Humble Pie was the first concert I went to, in the early 70s. I chased that high for the next 40+ years and saw over 50 of the best bands to ever play...Good times!
Thx brother for giving Steve the credit he deserves. And big kudos to the black sisters.
A good thing would be to react to the Small Faces , singing "Tin Soldier", same lead singer Steve Marriot, singing with PP Arnold. Steve Marriot , one of the best rock singers in history. Also, the Small Faces, All Or Nothing is well worth a listen.
70s funk ,it don’t get no better!!! Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Jamel, FANTASTIC..you have great taste!!! Been a Pie fan for YEARS!!! Glad you loved it!!!! Steve tragically died in a fire in the 1990s. Amazing song!!!
Great to hear Humble Pie again. Even greater is to see your enjoyment of this music. Soon I'll be going into my seventh decade of life, but hearing these tunes I can close my eyes and relive my youth. Thanks.
I seem him in 70's. What a voice. He was so energetic. Tin soldier is a great song he made with the Small Faces.
They asked him if he recreate the guitar part :-)
He said...."I think I'll be able to manage!
Marriott bleeds soul. One of the most talented people ever.
Mind blown..excellent song excellent review
in the seventies there was not just one genre , all difference races worked together to create great music!
The world misses him dearly.
he hated flying , and preferred smaller venues where he could 'see the whites of their eyes' , as he told my dad.
"my skin is white but my soul is black"....dig it.....R.I.P., Steve.................I think that's Peter Framptom on 2nd guitar (yes, THAT Peter Frampton)
Peter had left...that's clem clempson
@@paulmartin2116 mea culpa..........thanks for reminding me that Frampton left the band in 1971-2......
This band was formed by Steve Marriott of the Small Faces and Peter Frampton of The Herd, both very successful British groups from the 60’s, and well worth looking up. Steve Marriott had one of the best voices in the industry; he tragically died in a house fire in 1991. What a loss .
Black Crowes, Thorn in my Pride
Saw Humble Pie with Grand funk railroad, and Heads hands and feet at the free Hyde park concert in '71, Great live band, and Steve Marriot was so underrated at the time, one of Britains great vocalists.
I first heard Steve Marriot in The Small Faces with their song called Itchycoo Park. Loved the song and thought for certain it was a woman singing. Years later I realized it was a man singing. What a huge talent. Since then I've learned more about him, his life and his tragic death. He was underestimated because he was small in stature, but I will always think of him as a giant.
Never thought I would see a Humble Pie reaction. Thanks, you are the man. You bring me hope in these troubled times.
Thank you Jamal from your number one fan 😸😸
So now my new music quest began too
One must listen to I WONDER to totally appreciate Steve’s voice!
The way he smiles at the blackberries you can see he loves black coffee 💕
What a great live session. Such a tight band.
I was 4 years old.Lucky I grew up listening to this music
Boy! I didn't realize how lucky we were back then to have the music we did, I forgot about this because it was so long ago, thanks for reminding me.
Best singer and frontman ever!
Tears.
I miss Stevie so much. Rest in peach, Stevie. Singing with the Angels now.
"Whispering" Bob Harris got in his time machine and went back in time 30 years between his intro and his reaction after the song.
Hell of a treat.Love Humble Pie.The beautiful ladies are The Blackberries. This is actually Humble Pie and the Blackberries
Wow! How did I miss this diamond?? this is incredible! Thank you for making my morning coffee so much more enjoyable!
Peter Frampton started with Humble Pie. I got to see Humble Pie in concert.....with the Moody Blues
A.W.E.S.O.M.E.
Simply put, BEAUTIFUL THANGS! Amazing song!
I know right?! Big noise from a little guy. He left us too damn soon. One of the greatest voices ever! They were known for thrust and velocity.
One of my all time favourite bands 🎤🎸❤️😍
The introduction by whispering Bob Harris makes this even better.
