the guy that directed this episode also directed GOT's Hold the Door episode
Ooooh!
whaaat
And they both make me cry.
Does he like time paradox/travel? Lmao
His name is Jack Bender. He did a ton of Lost episodes. 99% of the finales/premieres as well.
This episode is like the personification of what makes LOST so great.
An extremely non-sensical out there, but fun, science fiction concept, centered around hard core character development and relationships. It's a testament that no matter how weird LOST gets, it always anchors it with its characters in such a beautiful way.
I love this show.
And it's also why the final episode works as well as it does.
That's also why all the copycats never panned out.
@@SuRoFo *slaps desk* THANK YOU. Someone finally fucking said it. You cant have an adventure mystery show (or any show, really) without characters you care about. GoT ended with spectacle and pomp and betrayed its characters, but Lost stayed true to the end!
@@SuRoFo What copycat?
@@Jeremy-jm3fe SURFACE, THE EVENT, THRESHOLD, FLASHFORWARD, to name a few. Copycats is a strong word but many shows tried to replicate the sci-fi/mystery/adventure ensemble show with built-in longevity. Whether spiritual cousin or network-mandated knock-off, LOST's success was a brass ring others wanted to grab.
(Full disclosure: I really liked FlashForward!)
Sayid was such a BRO to Desmond... never gave up on him! And that phone call.. 😭😭
The real nvp was Danial
Episodes like this one are the reason that, for all its ups and downs, Lost is still an amazing show worth the investment.
@Ragnarok Careful with that edge, you might hurt yourself.
@Ragnarok lost did have downs.. the complete season 6 and its finale just two name 2 xD
Tenpinmaster finale is good
@@Tenpinmaster Finale was okay
I totally agrre with you on Season 6
And let's better not talk about Jack's tattoo episode
Lost had 2 downs:
Early Season 3, with the cage episodes, and early Season 6, with the Temples Episodes.
All the rest is amazing, including its beautiful finale.
This is how you know a show is so well-written: when the best episode doesn't even focus on any of the original major characters, and yet it is still such an iconic episode.
So Desmond's backstory goes:
He wanted to be a doctor, but didn't graduate, because he had to support his family.
He was engaged to marry a woman name Ruth, but got drunk and chickened out of the wedding.
Joined a monastery instead and took a vow of silence. Ruth's brother tracked him down and attacked him.
Then he got kicked out of the monastery after getting drunk on their wine.
Met Penny and dated her for two years. Penny moved into his flat.
He approached her father Charles Widmore to ask permission to marry Penny, but got rejected.
Went to buy a ring, but changed his mind.
- Met Ms Hawking at the jeweler's, who told him he's destined to go to the island, not marry Penny. (retroactive)
Took a photo with Penny, but broke up with her, believing she deserved better.
Joined the Royal Scots Regiment instead.
- Went to Oxford to meet with Daniel Faraday. (retroactive)
- Got Penny's new address from her father and asked her for her new number. (retroactive)
Got kicked out of the Royal Scots Regiment and dishonourably discharged for not following orders.
Served time at a military prison as a result.
After being released, he discovered the letters he sent Penny while inside were all intercepted by Charles Widmore.
He went to America to enter Widmore's round-the-world sailing race to prove his worth and get his honour back.
There he met Libby at a cafe, who decided to give him her late husband's sailboat, the Elizabeth.
He was confronted by Penny, now engaged to someone else, while training at a stadium. Then met Jack by chance.
Whilst sailing in the Pacific, he hit a storm and was washed up on the island.
Kelvin Inman brought him to the Swan hatch and he lived there pushing the button for three years.
He killed Kelvin after discovering he was planning to escape on the Elizabeth. Missed the button, causing the plane crash.
Believed the world had ended because he missed the button and was going to kill himself, until he heard Locke outside.
you just spoiled this for me mate
@@kitadam1923 shouldn’t have read it then lmao. What do you expect from “Desmonds whole backstory”?
@@rylanmonaghan7694 but why is it posted on a video where half the things haven’t happened yet?
@@anisah9873 the show ended like 12 years ago 😂
@@anisah9873 i mean you can't stop reading too lmao
One of the greatest episodes of television ever made.
besttv.theringer.com/ actually the best
Sam McLatchie you mean Ozymandias?
@@marcosparedes325 well yeah that is an masterpiece of television but what has Breaking Bad got to do with this?
@@busimagen He said "one of" at the beginning, so there's no need to suggest other shows' other episodes, especially in an arguing tone.
Ozymandias comes close but The Constant is even better
that ending was one of the most beautiful scenes in lost , it always makes me cry
I had to take a Snapchat video of my face during that end scene to send to people I know who have watched LOST before. Fucking tears FLOWING down my cheeks for a good minute.
I never cried during LOST ever. To my knowledge, AoS and Breaking Bad are the only shows to make me break down in tears.
Jeremy SPOILERS TO THOSE WHO HAVENT WATCHED
What about Charlie and Jin and suns death?
Previously.. on LOST
Faraday doesn't remember Desmond because he has that memory loss issue that they introduced with the 3 card memorization exercise.
Yep. He always met Desmond in 1996, but lost those memories after prolonged unprotected experiments with electromagnetic radiation.
Got a little of that ol' "Swiss cheese effect," from Quantum Leap.
He did remember. That is why he had the note whit desmond hume is my constant. Someone he knew in both past amd present
@@mentros4638 He wrote that before he forgot, as a fail safe.
@@mentros4638 Here's the timeline: Desmond meets Faraday in 1996 -> Faraday writes "If anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my constant" -> Faraday loses his memories of meeting Desmond -> Faraday goes to the island -> Faraday's memory starts to heal -> Faraday vaguely recalls the "Desmond will be my constant" passage from his notebook and looks it up.
Props to Suraj for not overhyping the ep beforehand!
I was wanting him to at the beginning, but no, you’re right, it’s best to go in without that knowledge.
Suraj big smile and look at the camera when Rana and Nikki are talking about who opened the door was great!
Priceless face
‘I’ve always loved you!’ ---that’s a tear jerker right there
after all those yrs, the ending still gives me chills
FINALLY!! The ONE channel, that got the epic and amazingly edited "I'm not supposed to be-here!" moment PLUS REACTION in its entirety!! I just LOVE you guys for that! ❤❤❤ (4:29)
"At least it was a bloody military dream."
I'm glad I rewatched this show.
Suraj giving this episode to the girls like water from the island: "Now you're like me"
🤣🤣🤣
lmfao
Next time someone bothers you just pull a Desmond.
"I don't know you brotha! I DONT! KNOW! YOU!" and make sure to point every other word with both hands.
I already randomly yell at people, "YAH DON WANNA KNO WUT HAPPAND TA ME WHEN AH TURNED THAT KEEY!"
Penny and Desmond love story line gave this show so uplift
I haven't watched LOST since it aired but I saw your reaction to this ep pop up and was like I LOVED THAT EPISODE. Desmond and Faraday are some of my faves!
CONSTANTLY refreshing finally worked
Best episode of LOST imo. Way ahead of its time.
I don't think It aged very well in some aspects, and because of that, I prefer others - Ab Aeterno, Cabin Fever, for example... But It is great!
@@heitorabdias2212 why did it aged so poorly?
@@onrode script inconsistencies. Like the fact that Desmond and Penny have met after the time he went to her house that night, to ask her number, and they were in America! Also, the fact that she kept her number for 8 years, even tough she was to get married after that, and living in America. Also, How the showed her on her house in this episode, but few hours from that, she was in a boat to rescue them, and really close to the Island (she took so much time since the end of aeason 2, when she tracks the Island, to leave to the Island (after desmonds call)... There is a lot of problems.
@@heitorabdias2212 I'm sure she was living in london, not america (he said it's a london number plus the ringing tone is british - I'm british)
Also I think the fact she kept her number the same is intentional since Desmond asked her to. Even though she wants to be sensible and asks Desmond to leave, there's still a part of her that loves him which you can see in her face. Maybe a part of her hoped that Desmond would call. He does say 'you believed me, you still care about me'. You also have to remember the reason why Desmond ended the relationship - partly because of Emily but also because of Penny's father. By the time Desmond and Penny reunite Penny's relationship with her father has clearly broken down and I sort of assumed that Penny figured out he had something to do with the things that had happened (if I remember rightly it was her father who told Desmond to do the trip on the boat which led to him getting stuck on the Island).
Also I think it's implied she split up from whoever she was meant to get married to. Ultimately Desmond broke her heart and she still loved him, so it's a story about true love. I dont think that part of it is inconsistent.
@@sm2593 you got It wrong. The Stadium that Desmond and Penny have met, before he goes to the race that leads him to the island, and also where he meets Jack for the first time, on that same day, It is in the USA. Qnd that happens AFTER 1996, when she gives him her number, in LONDON.
In that final phone call scene one of the things Desmond says to Penny is "You believed me." After watching the series a few times I'm noticing that that is a running theme. Off the top of my head, in "Numbers" Hurley was so relieved that Rousseau believed him about being cursed. Shannon always needed someone to just believe in her. And there are a few more important examples from future episodes that we can't talk about here...
"See you in another hotel world, brotha!" "Beard together, or depart alone"
Hurley's mom saying she believes him. Locke's note to Jack "I wish you believed me".. it's definitely a theme..a good one too.
@@pewburrito *cue Va, Pensiero*
"I wish you had believed me" T_T
There`s no constant number of times for me constantly rewatching "The Constant". Seems like this is my constant in case i move back in time to 2008 or later.
And how are you feeling?
"WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS GOING ON!?"
XD
One of my very fave episode, Desmond and Penny finally on the phone together, man I cried my eyes out. This show was just everything. Also, Desmond Hume is my constant
WE MADE IT PEOPLE. The day Henry Ian Cusick became one of everyone's favourite actors
And sonja walger ofc!
I love that episode. One of my favorite in the show.
My all time favorite episode of Lost, if you don't sweat from your eye sockets just a little bit then you probably don't have a heart.
@Paulo Pereira Wow, you're tough. What's your max bench?
In all seriousness though I never said the emotions you feel and the quality of content were connected in any way, but thanks for sharing.
Faraday has memory issues, as seen when he's doing a test with Charlotte using playing cards. He *should* have remembered meeting Desmond in 1996, but due to his excessive use of radiation it messed up his head, and he lost that memory.
Nikki: "Babies aren't people!"
Haha, I love you guys
Everyone needs a love like Desmond and Penny.
I always thought the rat died because he didn't bother actually teaching her the maze an hour later like he meant to, thus creating a paradox.
The single episode that makes watching the entire LOST series worth it. I have my issues with the last season but because I loved the journey; I've always considered LOST as one of my favorite shows. Of course, all first 5+1 seasons as a whole is worth it being the bigger journey but even this episode could singly make it worthy as a great one episode experience.
that phone call scene always gets me. Desmond and Penny's theme is the best. Followed by Life and Death theme and the Oceanic theme.
To anyone who still loves that person who you know you always will love and you'll never really truly be with again, and whom you know you can never say those words directly to, 19:09 will never fail to really hit home.
Powerful stuff!
Samuel Cox ♥️
True
Ah...possibly my favorite episode of Television ever.
That is the best episode in the history of television!
Don't always watch your Lost reactions because it's been so long since I watched that show. But I absolutely HAD to watch you guys react to this mind fuck of an episode! Such an emotional ending--felt all the feels at the end there, right there with you guys. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Aw, Suraj... I think it's really sweet that you and your bros were each other's constants. (Even if you were all drunk at the time, LOL)
Didn't you guys realize & talk about the name of the boat of which its captain's journal was being bought by Charles Widmore (Penny's father)
this episode is peak lost. a bit confusing at first but the emotional backbone of desmond, penny, and faraday ties it together
My FAVORITE episode of Lost. The exchange between Penny and Desmond at the end is perfection. Will always cry for this episode.
Never gets old, great work! glad to see that other people share the same enthusiasm for this ep up to this day. Penny Is the ultimate sweetheart.despite all the supernatural and metaphysical stuff, the whole timeless love and romance thing is almost impossible to find nowadays. Their performances are so intense and sincere too.
this episode was genius.
No two parter for this great episode!? Oh well, still a great reaction, guys! This actually isnt my favorite episode (S3 finale wins that spot) but this one is still wonderful. That damn ending makes me tear up every time.
This is arguably the best episode of the show. Perfect.
LOST is the reason so many shows since it have used non-linear storytelling but it never gets the credit it deserves for literally changing the landscape of television.
Damn it. I'm a full grown man why does that phone call make me blub like a girl. LOL. I have seen it from start to finish about 8 times. I think I will start from S01EP1 with you guys. Will be something different. Haven't watched it for a couple of years. This is always an emotional rollercoaster haha.
Iconic episode. You guys had a good reaction to it especially Queen Rana
I swear after this perfection of an episode everything feels so bland lol
Two weeks ago. That was when I watched this reaction video from you guys. Since then I've watched it two more times JUST to see if it would still make me cry that close to each viewing.
I just watched it now and fucking A, still got three tears running down my face. I said Hannibal's Mizumono was the best hour of television, but I think this is the best scene in all of television and hands down the greatest love story ever told.

Master yoda
In addition, Mad props to Michael Giacchino for the heart tugging score and also whoever edited this episode.
One of the best episodes of the show
In an earlier episode Daniel couldn't remember the ordering of cards. That will come into play later, and also lead to the answer of why he doesn't remember Des's visit in the past.
One of my absolute favorite episodes!
Seriously one of the best episodes of TV ever.
This was still is and probably will still be my favorite episode of any TV Show ever made!
Yess!!! My favorite episode. Haven't been watching the reactions because I need to fully immerse myself when I watch Lost, needless to say I can't wait to see the reactions to this.
Estou pra dizer que esse episódio foi o maior da história de qualquer seriado.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who tears up during the phone call scence
props to the writers, directors and everyone one else involved in making this episode. absolute geniuses
One of my favorite episodes of LOST.
I joined your Patreon just to get to this episode. I.Just.Could.Not.Wait.
They are not dead in any world!!Rana you're a romantic! Loved watching you guys with this, most beautiful episode. And I could barely see thru my tears that Nahid was wiping his eyes. 😭😭😭🤗
The after episode discussion about whether or not you have a constant reminded me of one time when they were reading fan mail on the old Tonight Show (with Johnny Carson). One letter said, "I was born on the same day that the first episode of the Tonight Show aired. Does that mean if you go off the air I will die?" LOL.
Rana is so precious in every way
Ripping "Marty, we have to go back" + flash-forwards + Fisher Stevens (from Early Edition AND My Science Project) + etc. ? ;)
--> All about time travel 9_9
I'm of the opinion that lost is 100% fantasy with no scifi at all
Moreorlesser yeah it is, it's more religious than sci fi
Glad Nikki and Rana enjoyed my favorite episode. So many feels.
This episode is one of my favorite ones of Lost
I got my niece into watching this show. She has been enjoying it and I told her, when you get to the Constant, I want to watch it with you. She is an emotional person and I wanted to see her reaction. At this part she was crying so much. She had to watch it like 5 times to stop crying. It was precious seeing her reaction.
The only romantic relationship that ever mattered in lost.
Watching this from Oct. 2021. Hi y'all. This is my first watch of the series.
lol, you smiling over there when they said Frank is the friend on the boat, Makowski is Benjamin Jawvii from Short Circuit
You guys are amazing. Beautiful reactions. This is one of my favorite episodes
I'm rewatching this video because this episode is maybe one of the greatest things ever!!!!
The Normies is my constant.
Chris M 😫😻🙏
I have been waiting for SO LONG for this episode reaction. Worth it!
The transitions though it’s very well done
Penny and Desmond, as Nikki says, I love love. lol.
This is about where LOST went from a show I was watching because everyone I knew was watching it to a show that I was watching because I wanted to.
I hope they figure out why Faraday doesn’t remember certain things or him crying in front of the TV
It's so hard for me to give this episode my #1 favorite episode in television history. "Mizumono" from Hannibal S2 is the most beautiful, most incredible, most amazing hour of television I've ever seen, but goddamn it this episode just makes my heart burst.
Nikki honestly said it best. It makes me wanna say "I love love."
Hannibal was/is such an underrated and unappreciated tv show
It breaks my heart
Wait, set the device to 2.342?

Man, finally, been trying to get work done while refreshing my page constantly.
Suraj droppin the ball and not geeking out or talking about the Black Rock (15:15)
I’ve seen this episode at least 8 times. I’m still crying watching a reaction video in 2022. Absolutely magical episode. Also Suraj, you and your drunk LOST bro love is adorable haha. Fk the haters.
The boat theme is the best in lost.
This was the ultimate "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SEASON???" episode for me.
Finally!!! Been waiting for these two to watch this episode. 😢😢😢
It’s funny how they initially set Keamy up in this episode to look like a pretty chill, reasonable dude.
Why would you want that artifact
If it was from the Black Rock
Did you see the sailboat
الثابت هي اعظم حلقة شاهدتها في تاريخ التلفزيون ♥️🚬
Desmond and Penny are not only one of the best couples on the show, but they're one of the best couples on tv ever imo. And it was SUCH Good casting. The two of them hadn't even been on screen together That much up to this point of the show and yet their chemistry was just THERE from the very beginning :))
Dunno if you noticed or if it's been mentioned. But the military type tough guy Keemy, is Harbard out of Vikings.
Also, if you didn't understand why someone, notably Charles, would want that old shipmates diary. You may want to listen a little harder about the details of the ship it documented. Do we know of any old ships?
Guy who plays Daniel voiced the villain from the recent God of War game, just a little fun fact.
12:34 scared tf outta me lol
You are Great, Guys.
I'm a L O S T fan from Hungary and I didn't think people already remember this show.
You are smart. Go ahead, make my day again with lost. 💝👌😍🔥🌋🚁🌴♿🎬
the music though ...
Both the adjustment number for Daniel's experiment and the Black Rock auction lot share the same number, 2342
