      I don’t remember which law this is, but, “ Always appeal to People’s self interest, not their emotion.” In the book, Robert Greene uses the example of the pragmatic and ruthless Duke of Lucca, Castruccio Castriccani when he was once betrayed by certain nobles in the city. I think that would be an excellent video for this channel. This format by the way is excellent by the way. By using the actual stories in the 48 laws of power it enhances the lesson/law being taught.

    I'm surprised the story of Ciccio Cuccia, a Mafia Don in Sicily wasn't used. When Mussolini visited the island, Don Cuccia wanted to show how powerful he was and told Mussolini that he didn't need his personal armed escorts because while in Sicily he was under the Mafia's protection. This infuriated Mussolini that another man held so much power within Italy. Mussolini unleashed his secret police against the Sicilian Mafia that rounded up and imprisoned hundreds of Mafia suspects.

      It was more than that.
      Two years later, in May 1924, the Fascist leader Benito Mussolini, then prime minister, visited Sicily and also passed through Piana dei Greci where he was received by the mayor Don Ciccio.[6] At some point Cuccia expressed surprise at Mussolini’s police escort and whispered in his ear: "You are with me, you are under my protection. What do you need all these cops for?" To Cuccia the large police escort indicated a lack of respect. When Mussolini declined to release the substantial police force, Cuccia had the central town square emptied when Il Duce made his speech. Mussolini found himself addressing a group of some 20 village idiots, beggars, bootblacks and lottery ticket sellers picked out as an audience by Don Ciccio.[6][7] He felt humiliated and outraged

    Little late to the party, but I saw this law in action. In college I watched two members of the Student Government make power plays against each other. One talked about the other to every student in the area, on the government board or not, to try to weaken the others position. That other student made a habit of getting to know the Deans, Club Advisors, and even the college President. Both graduated Suma Cum Laude, but one was honored by name at the commencement ceremony and awarded all sorts of scholarships. Apparently sucking up to the people who actually control the school instead of making yourself look the fool to the higher ups by trying to curry favor with inconsequential people using bad tactics paid off.

      Fouquet’s intentions were good; intending to impress the master, but instead managed to humiliate him. He was naive in that he failed to calculate the reaction from Louis that would follow, and he didn’t understand that envy and jealousy are key components in human nature. His notorious example gave birth to this extremely critical principle in the art of power that we can all now learn from.

This video is certainly interesting and, up to the point, educationally valuable, but true leaders are born, applying those and many other rules unconsciously, as it is a part of their DNA. Of course. First of all, no matter what the circumstance is, you should always know where your position should be.
    The master didn't get there because he played ring around the rosie.
    He got there for the strongest reason imaginable!
    Even Lord Christ pointed this out...
    "A servant will never be greater than his master..."
    The position of the master is constant, unlike the servants.
    If the master wants to stoop down some in certain circumstances, that will be an exclusive & reserved option from him and him alone.

    • @caesarx8139
      @caesarx8139 2 роки тому +4

      @Dennis Eudela.
      On the contrary, from my observations, I think the greatest Masters were once a "servant" just as a teacher stated as an apprentice/student before becoming a teacher.
      Christ was referring to the spirit/mentality of a Man. Not the physical. So in this sense, if you only see yourself as a "servant" spiritually, then you will never be greater then your master. Don't forget, even Christ (a Master in His own right) washed the feet of Men. What does that symbolizes?
      That's just my take. I'd love to heard your response to it.
      All the best.

      @denniseudela411 2 роки тому +3

      @@caesarx8139
      You're take is well taken.
      Thanks for ur POV.
      True, that's how you got to the top position is because generally speaking, you paid the dues first.
      Regarding Christ washing the feet of the apostles I believe is to set an example.
      First of all He obeyed the will of God that's why He did that.
      It's a 'bookmark' for the Apostles to remember that the true service to God is not like an earthly service wherein the Master or Boss (like in The Godfather) will NEVER stoop down to his subordinates.
      It's actually the reverse with God.
      Christ who is appointed by God to be our Lord & Master was dedicated in shepherding and nurturing the flock, or those who followed Him and the Apostles during His ministry here on earth.
      It was an act of humility to the will of God, and to leave a lasting reminder to the Apostles as well as those who will be disciples working with them to propagate and to oversee the Church that Christ built and left to the Apostles when He ascended to heaven.
      In God's way, to be the Leader, is to be a servant of those he is suppose to take care of. Very much like a shepherd who pastors his flock. He makes sure that they're safe, they're fed, they're defended from wild animals, and they are all accounted for at end of the day, before leading then to shelter, there's a roll call and must be the correct serial #. Or else, you secure every sheep first, then look for the lost one.
      So, an appointed Leader of God if ur working for ur own salvation, requires sacrifice, selflessness, dynamic leadership, and humility in recognizing that you cannot accomplish any of these, unless you constantly pray and plead for His mercy and guidance.
      That is how i understand the act of Jesus, which He Himself primarily demonstrated how God wants it done, even as He was chosen by God as The Messiah - The Chosen One, and was made both Lord and Christ by God.
      Acts 2:36

    Political example which indeed happened in India.
    India's current Prime Minister Narendra Modi perfectly exemplifies this rule. Once upon a time, Modi was a young activist in the then nascent political party BJP. He was a talented orator and an excellent organiser. People soon noticed his management skills in the organisation and he rose through the ranks, which attracted the attention of a founder of the party LK Advani. Eventually when BJP came to power in India's central (federal) government for the first time in 1990s, Advani was second only to the Prime Minister of India.
    Advani took Modi in as a student. Under his mentorship Modi improved his accomplishments and started shining more in the ranks of the party. But Modi always took care never to outshine his mentor while the latter was at his prime. Modi soon became the chief minister of the state of Gujarat as a reward.
    He played a humble student and thus the mentor Advani bailed him out when India's liberal opposition, media and even then Prime Minister Vajpayee were wanting to fire Modi when he mismanaged the aftermath of 2002 Gujarat riots. In 2004, BJP lost power in India's general elections, while they still retained Gujarat state firmly.
    Now in the era of 2004-09, Advani was the boss and was trying to be the Prime Minister while Modi had national ambitions, everyone knew it. He had the political organizational skills, oratory, public connect and favour among industrialist with him. But he never tried to outshine Advani and kept on the facade of being a subservient student of Advani.
    Modi waited patiently and waited.
    Then the opportunity struck when BJP lost the 2009 elections and Advani's political clout collapsed overnight. His age did no favours. When it was apparent that Advani was a falling star, that was when Modi decided to finally outshine his mentor by advertising his accomplishments more publicly at national level. He was no longer a Gujarat guy, he was a pan India guy. And he never actively undermined Advani directly, but let public opinion and party cadres do it themselves. Finally Advani realised in 2013 that Modi is outshining him, but it was too late. Advani resigned in one last ditch attempt to "protest" but now the political party itself finished the coup and Modi was appointed as Prime Ministerial candidate for 2014 general elections.
    Now Advani was literally out of Indian politics (and still is). Modi then won 2014 Indian general elections with overwhelming majority and now is the firm Godfather of Indian politics. His former mentor is all but forgotten. Now his own "students" who either are Ministers in Central government or are Chief Ministers of different states are learning from Modi. They are following the law and advancing their own goals, while the mentor Modi outshines everyone for now.

    “The 48 Laws of Power” is a fun and useful book but it really shouldn’t be taken too seriously. I used to work at B&N and it was our #1 most shoplifted book. Ironically, it actually increases a sense of paranoia more than security in power.

    One of the worst mistakes I ever made was violating this rule, and I honestly did it while having the best of intentions. It wasn't about me being power hungry, I was simply trying to show the boss that I was ambitious and wanting to contribute as much as possible to the team and everyone's success. However, I was TOO ambitious and I contributed TOO MUCH to the team, and the boss soon felt like I was trying to take over his role. After a couple of years I was replaced by someone who was clearly far less qualified, but someone who I assume, allowed the boss to feel less threatened and more comfortable in his role as the leader.

    I suppose the best way to put it is the principle of yielding, don't necessarily just blindly allow everybody to walk over you by the same time give credit where it is due especially to people who have come before you and just be patient and also another way to look at it is the Abraham Lincoln quote of it's better to be thought of a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
    Im a salesman and even though people might sell different things the same sort of rules apply where I see it all the time that the principles are easy to grasp so much so that a lot of people think that they can do it, and I'm no expert, and everyone is connected to everyone so I can't even say that nepotism is a problem because technically everyone came in through some sort of other connection so it's not a nepotism problem but as you say it's a patience problem of some people come in thinking they know everything try to do what they can and don't learn the value of patience sometimes letting the other person think that they are the smartest person in the room and only challenging them if it is necessary. I've had several people tell me that I said something that I know for a fact I did not, or that I didn't tell them something that I know for a fact that I did. I go into other people's places of business where they're probably used to being treated like kings so the slightest inconvenience for them is a transgression and a lot of them have been in this business for eons no telling. I go in there do my best like you say try to be sincere, and wait till the proper moments to either show competency or to exploit a opening but never try to force an opening and always allow the other person to be the Masters and never try to outshine them. And this business is very easy to make a mistake and be immortalized for your mistakes.

      @@DemeterTelphousia-Erinyes Just my opinion, I think the question of who ordered the hit was a script problem Coppola and Puzo couldn't really resolve, so they tried to have it both ways. Really, why would the hit man (Danny Aiello as Tony Rosoto) say "Michael Corleone says hello" if it was clearly Roth who ordered the hit? By the way, if you look closely, Aiello's lips aren't moving when we hear the line, so it could have been put in later in post. Also, why does Roth get uptight when Michael asks him about it later and bring up Moe Green? Roth could have just said, "Yeah, I ordered the hit. You told me YOU were going to do it. I just thought I'd save you the trouble. After all, an attempt was made on your life." They needed to give Pentangeli a strong motivation to testify against Michael, but how would Pentangeli come to the conclusion that Michael betrayed him? And much later, why does Michael say, "Pentangeli alive" with disappointment in his voice, as if he really DID order the hit?

    You know, I don't agree with the 48 laws of power, mostly because I find them to be toxic. The school system is like that and as a former teacher I strive to bring more of a Sun Tzu approach. Diplomacy, openness, mercy, civility, protection for and from superiors/underling in real mutual respect, and clear rules are important to me. Remember: A fish caught in a net can't swim upstream. If you're indispensable for one job, there's no way you will ever move up in the ranks and get a promotion. Having a better replacement that you have fostered means you can move on to better things while they take your place. And if they are your ally, they are now a branch of your legacy you have made, which means more insider info. You may be saying, "ah, what if you're promoted just above it. You will still know what your underling knows." On the contrary, there is no guarantee that your promotion will be truly vertical, or that the responsibilities will even be related to your old position. A real leader is judicious and doesnt need fear to rule, but instead clear boundaries and rules. This is what creates civility and frees up the leader to manage justly in an environment where everyone is on the same page.

    • @charlesk22
      @charlesk22 2 роки тому +12

    Yet- Galileo was an irreplaceable one in a billion genius scientists with NO access what so ever to the keys to the empire.
    Geniuses have ‘idiosyncratic character traits’ -powerful smart people understand and respect this.
    The Medici’s were brilliant and sensitive at understanding and respecting the talent they found in Italy.
    Nicolas Fouquet was just ONE of many replaceable financiers with potential strategic connections that might threaten Louis XIV.
    While I mostly understand the rationale of Louise XIV dismissal of Fouquet, the ‘powerful’ (if smart) reach power and preeminence by surrounding themselves with genius they fully know money can’t buy for themselves personally.
    So there is a balance of mutual respect in this interaction (genius/power). The key words here being MUTUAL and if both sides understand their boundaries and their interests and goals.
    Another notable extraordinary figure that interacted masterfully with POWER was LEONARDO DA VINCI and the King Francis I of France in Amboise, France (1515).

    I will say, "The 48 Laws" are very fitting in a criminal world... but nowhere else. If you believe it is fitting in a "competitive business arena" then you are only contributing towards "the usual sociopath on top controlling everything". Far from competitive, and arenas are made for sports or battles... not business.
    Only sociopaths use manipulative social behavior and interaction to obtain "power" over others. Same goes for those books about "Winning Friends" or "Winning People" over others. If you are behaving according towards the objective of "having" the affection - or even respect - of another, you are not winning anything... You are taking advantage of that person, by taking away their ability to rationally choose NOT to befriend/respect/like you.
    Taking is not winning in my book. It is always better to win something, than it is to take it. If you won it by being who you are, and not by with what you say or what you do, then you truly do deserve it.
