Good advice. I had a wretched boss. She had me doing her work and then was getting kudos from management. I never let her upset me. She was used to terrorizing people. My co-worker went on meds, since she was so stressed out. This boss then engineered my getting laid off. Things didn’t go well for her after that and she was asked to leave. My old company asked me to go back. I passed since I had found a better job. Robert is correct in not letting bosses upset you. You give away your power.
The most bizarre thing about some bosses is that they’re the ones getting promotions & awards. I’ve known quite a few who were hated but managed to get recognition from the higher ups.
if you observe manipulative ,narcissistic person and 3 year old child its basicaly the same state of mind, many of mental disorders are just like that, people stay mentally at the age when they experienced trauma, they cant process their emotions, many bosses are like that because they want to compensate this with possessions and power over other people, its really great advice to see them as big kids and dont react to their moods
Psychotic bosses are jealous of your unique traits, insecure because of their unfulfilled desires, become angry when a client and team member compliments your empathetic tendencies and good hearted nature, and do whatever necessary to turn others against you in order to justify letting you go.
You said it so beautifully all my bosses have been bad over the years I decided to just become self employed sick of breaking down physically n emotionally
This is wishful thinking. The truth is psychotic bosses just don’t care about your feelings and are only looking out for their own benefit. It’s not driven by jealousy. They just want to exploit whatever talents you have to advance their own career, and couldn’t care less whether you benefit or are even recognized for your work. In fact, they want all the credit for your work and will often pass it off as theirs, but will blame you if it fails.
Yeah, I’ve found they will just eliminate your position or do an out of the blue lay-off, for select people, all at once, just to get one key person out the door, if they can’t fire you for cause. It’s sort of a no-win scenario if you can’t get another job before they put this strategy into play.
Psycho bosses that can effect your mental well being, work performance, loss of finances, potential housing insecurity is like Stalin. They’re holding your life in their hands & this can cause panic & ptsd. This kind of workplace abuse is common & hard not to take personally when it’s literally effecting your entire personal life. Quitting is the way.
Nah you just let him win that way. You have to give him zero reason to fire/demote you, challenge his ideas/ways he talks to you, then you earn his respect and piss him off.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I had to deal with a narcissistic manager for the past 4 months and some unfriend colleagues. Done, I am out and I'm done with them. I would like to see the whole interview. Can you please share the link? Thank you in advance
Preach! If YOU are yelling at ME, that is prima facie personal. Don't make such lame excuses for their behavior(s) and for treating another human being like s***. Shut them down very quickly by setting clear, firm boundaries. Don't have to be an a-hole about it, but don't have to be a doormat either.
I challenge my boss to some sort of contest everytime they start whining about something to see who works most efficiently, they always turn back and I don't hear from them again for a while because they know the result. Pretty good feeling. :)
Given the way I grew up I consider my skilled in controlling my emotional outward reactivity. With what I say and how I say it. But at the end of the day you still need to address your bosses emotions because they skew their perception of you, and ultimately could mean the difference between being fired or not.

Sometimes it is personal, even very personal, if the boss feels you disapprove of their methods.
Exactly
Yes , sometimes for whatever reason the boss does pick on one person usually when this person makes him feel insecure. How to deal with it
