I recreated this patch on my DX7 and used it on my cover of "Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime", I love how it sounds with the added ensemble/chorus effect :D
Thanks for confirming the 1.338 bug in yours, I'm really glad to hear that my patches are having a positive impact on your music. Thanks for sharing the kind words
I have the 1.338hz on my Dx7 I didn’t get it the first time but if you scroll in a specific way, you’ll get lucky and get a value that leads up to 1.338 when you press +1. I had to move it microscopically
Hey hope the break is treating you well... also.. the 1.778hz is in the same place on a YRM-304 FM voicing cart on a Yamaha cx5m sending to a TX7. Just some weirdness I guess...
I'm doing this on a TX-802. I have 3 adjustments: Course (0.5, 1, 2, 3...), Fine (0.1, 0.2, 0.3...) , and Detune (-7 to 0 to +7) I can set: Course = 1 Hz, turn up Fine until I get: 1.33 After that, I'm not sure...I can either tune down 7 steps (-) or tune up 7 steps (+) ... a range of approximately +/-2 cents I chose to add +7 Then I get 1.33 +7 ....Whatever that works out to be.
I'm speculating that although it shows 1.338 on the display, that it is actually using the value of 1.738 which splits the difference between 1.698 and 1.778
@@madFame I just tried this on my Mark 1 DX7 and it shows 1.698Hz > 1.738Hz > 1.778Hz. Pretty interesting as many people have this glitch. Great patches as always.
It sucks I can't load your patreon patches into the modx directly even using yamaha's conversion tool. Parameters are all over the place as is to be expected. Thankfully I can still follow along with the tutorials and approximate!
Hi Fredrik, I may re-release my patches online via another platform but I haven't decided yet. When I do I will make an announcement here on UA-cam so stay tuned!
No. When you initialise and start editing a patch, all of those edits are stored in a memory buffer, this doesn't automatically overwrite your saved patch on that memory slot. Only if you save your edits to that memory slot will your current patch be overwritten.
@madFame so when you initialise a patch and create a sound once you're done you assign it to that slot so take the take off prest will be overrided with my new sound?
@madFame I also have a rom cartage with the master group on it so if I make a bunch of bew presets and decided I want the originals back I can just copy that cartridge to the dx7s internal memory?
@@seanwalters4312 Yes, once you save to a memory slot, the previously saved patch be overwritten with the newly saved patch. Before saving, any program change or edit will be stored in a memory buffer, and won't automatically overwrite the existing saved patch.
Hi, would anyone be able to show me how to transpose my dx7 and have it affect all the patches? My dx7 is set down a half step, I've tried transposing to standard middle c position before but when i select a new patch, it reverts back to down a half step for all patches. Any help would be appreciated !
Hey I love your tutorials. But could you talk about the Keyboard Level Scaling functions and how those work? It's a part of the synth that's still a bit mysterious to me as to why and how it works.
No, I'm not that clever! Its a portable oscilloscope that sits on top of my DX7. Its only $30 on eBay and really useful for seeing waveforms on your synths. Look for JyeTech DSO138
Again this video (and this channel!) is a treasure!! Worth the wait! Keep it up, I use the sounds in my MK I and my IIFD. Love it. Does anyone know whatever happened to Power DX7? I also love his work, but why did he stop?
Thanks for the kind words! I’ve also wondered what happened to PowerDX7. Although we’ve never spoken, I loved that he also put in a lot of work for the DX community. I hope he is ok and just taking a UA-cam holiday.
Yamaha has a FM converter that changes DX7 patches to MODX/Montage format. You can convert the file then import it to your MODX. Check it out yamahasynth.com/yamaha-fm-converter
Hello, I'm a huge fan of the DX and love your tutorials. Lately I'm trying to get the Mac Demarco's Another One LP tone using the DX and I was wondering if you've got some tips for it or similar patches as a start: ua-cam.com/video/gbg27oT8Z9M/v-deo.html

I’m amazed with vintage strings 3!
Totally nailed that solina sound
Planning to get this so I can add it to my synth funk production. 🔥
Your patches always inspire me to create music, simple yet beautiful sound! It also shows 1.338 freq on my DX7

Nice patch and a great tutorial on it! This makes it easy to transfer it to other FM synthesizers. Thanks!!
Glad you like it Edgar! Thanks for watching :)
good stuff madFame! Got my hands on a DX7S a few months ago and your tutorials were the perfect starting point!
Great to hear, I hope you have fun with your new synth!
On my dx7 it does say 1,338Hz:.
Another amazing video, welcome back!
Thank you for watching, it's great to have another video out!

My pleasure!

Nice:)) Is it also applicable in arturia dx7 vst?!?!
Always Amazing!!!

Yes, I figured as much as well. I'm surprised that this seems to be common amongst other DX7 units! It's not like Yamaha to miss these things.

Same issue with my DX7 mk 1 !
This is a really stupid question but when programming on the dx and you initiate a patch do you need to sacrifice one of the presets?
No. When you initialise and start editing a patch, all of those edits are stored in a memory buffer, this doesn't automatically overwrite your saved patch on that memory slot. Only if you save your edits to that memory slot will your current patch be overwritten.

Once again i followed the steps exactly.. my DX7 sounds completely different to the video. What could be wrong with my DX7
Can someone explain to me?
Hey I love your tutorials. But could you talk about the Keyboard Level Scaling functions and how those work? It's a part of the synth that's still a bit mysterious to me as to why and how it works.
I take a look on mine : I have exactly the same issue -> 1.698Hz -> 1.338Hz -> 1.778Hz
And I have the same issue at the other decimal variations : 16.98 > 13.38 > 17.78
It seems that’s a known issue, a bug, same here, so I am proud to have discovered a DX7 bug hahaha 😂
Que hermosos sonidos de cuerdas. me recordó a un Arp Oddysey que probé en Guitar Center de Denver..
Ok, I must be the odd one out... my mk 1 DX7 doesn’t have the 1.338Hz value - goes from 1.698 to 1.738 then to 1.778... maybe it’s a display bug ?

You never clarify what preset you are using for the patch.
There's no preset, all tutorials are initialised so they start with all edit values reset.
@@madFame ok! I guess mine is close to it but for some reason yours sounds better
The algorythm's numérotation isn't the same on fmx engine on modx... Can I reverse carieer and modulator?

Thanks a lot for the vid, I hope it will get a lot of views from the Mac fanboys
