Little River Band are so good, and they have a bunch of great songs too! "Lonesome Loser" "Night Owls" "The Other Guy" "Cool Change" just to name a few!!
This is the absolute truth : on the morning of December 2, 1982, I was getting dressed for school, listening to the radio in my room. Suddenly, my 2 much-younger sisters raced into my room. Instantly, I noted two things, though both shocked me -- my sisters were crying and my dad was yelling. I was 15 1/2, a sophomore in high school, and could count on one hand how many times I had heard them arguing with raised voices. I was in shock and time seemed to get caught in a surrealistic warp as I tried to make sense of what was going on. I began to hush and comfort my little sisters and then, my dad entered my room. I had just put my earrings in my ears. My dad's coffee was in one hand and I could see the steam rising off it. Honestly, I don't remember what he said or what I did, I just recall him exploding, slapping me very hard across my face. I know I didn't do anything to deserve it. I felt the hot stinging on my neck, ear, and face. My earring back poked into my neck and was bleeding a bit. Then, I realized that his hot coffee had splashed on me, too. That morning, my dad was accusing my mother of cheating on him and ... guess what song played as he left my room ? LRB's The Other Guy ... 😐 I had always enjoyed the song (along with Lonesome Loser and Take It Easy on Me) and I still do. But, it will always take me back to that pivotal day ...
John Farnham here is vocally off the chart. His ability to play with a song and not drop a note. As for his vocal range. It's ridiculously good. Never quite understood how he didn't make it big in the states. Maybe he just didn't want to.
That little river band is my favorite version. Don’t care for the hair cut. But compared to all the other versions this one has a real jazzy feel. I love it.
What a classic aussie band! I was only out in the little country town called "Little river" a couple of months ago...the band was named after the town. Lead singer John Farnham is still a legend in Australia and still a phenomenal performer at the age of 71!
Johnny Farnham when he went overseas with Little River Band but was so homesick for his wife and young sons, he wrote a song "Burn for You" to her about missing her, he came home and stayed, he's a real Aussie family man and is still married to Jill, they would have to have been married 45-50 years now, he's into his 70s and sounds as good as ever. Glen Shorrock was in the band too, both John and Glen remained friends and still are. John went through a bad patch financially and Glen got him on his feet and organised and managed an Australian Tour for him, Glen and his wife Gaynor financing the whole thing themselves, the tour was so successful that John was back and Glen and Gaynor recouped their money many times over, that's what being a mate us about in Australia and these two are a great example. Movie “The Other Guys.” , but Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell were cops and Will Ferrell was being perpetually made for liking this song. It was a running joke, but I always liked this song. If you like this you might want to try “I Love You” Climax Blues Band or Doobie Brothers “Listen to the Music” or “Blackwater” Similar styles. I have to say the lead singer here obviously has some R and B/Soul influence. I was impressed.(I had only heard the Studio Version.
I just stumbled upon this video and was excited. Then I saw it wasn’t the original singer, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed. I watched it anyway and wasn’t disappointed. The first song I ever heard by them was “It’s a Long Way There”. If you could even just find an audio file, and react to it, it would make my day, month, and year. My late brother introduced me to it. Oh, the band is Australian. The original lead singer’s name was Glenn Shorrock. Great vocals!!

@@xaj1543 Yeah, Glen Shorrick really made LRB. John Farnham was a peerless solo artist but too bright really to be in a band. While I remember hearing a few of Little River Bands songs on the radio way back when, we didn’t get much news on its members so I’ll admit never having heard of John until about a year ago. One of my Mom & Dad's favorite songs. "That's the way it began we were hand-in-hand Glenn Miller Band was better than before. We yelled & screamed for more. And the Porter (Cole Porter) tunes made us dance across the room. It ended all too soon..." References to my Parents' Generation. I miss my Mom & Dad 💖🙏💖
Ty for your awesome reaction 👏👏. Love Little River Band. They were great 🎼🎶. I think they were underrated. Love you doing 70s & 80s music. The best decades of music if u ask me. BTW great song!! 😄🙌
I think he's playing so much with this song because there isn't anything really challenging about it -- at least not for HIM. He is such an amazing vocalist. I have no idea what his range may be, but I suspect it's more than 3. LOVE him, especially his duet with Jimmy Barnes "When Something Is Wrong with my Baby".
I love this idea. There has never been or will ever be any band like them. We are down to only one Bee Gee , Barry is a national treasure if you ask me . I have every 45 and 33 ever recorded by the Bee's from the 70's , I love them all even the disco , hell yes Staying Alive..absolutely any Bee Gee's song will do...To love somebody , I started a joke, Don't throw it all away..ect..ect..
Little River Band (LRB) are a rock band originally formed in Melbourne, Australia, in March 1975. The band achieved commercial success in both Australia and the United States. They have sold more than 30 million records; six studio albums reached the top 10 on the Australian Kent Music Report albums chart including Diamantina Cocktail (April 1977) and First Under the Wire (July 1979), which both peaked at No. 2. Nine singles appeared in the top 20 on the related singles chart, with "Help Is on Its Way" (1977) as their only number-one hit. Ten singles reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Reminiscing" their highest, peaking at No. 3. Only First Under the Wire appeared in the top 10 albums on the Billboard 200.
John Farnham with a magnificent voice. You will soon realise that ALL the band sings, even the drummer. Every one on stage are recording artist in their own right. They are all John's friends friends, and they love to play with him.
The lead singer is John Farnham. I've loved him since I can remember. His song Your The Voice is an unofficial Aussie anthem....you're not Aussie if you don't know the words😆
I'm Black and I grew up on this music lol! My Dad was a musician and my mom just liked "white" music. I laugh now when I think about it but music is truly beautiful and needed to calm the 'savage beast" inside us all lol! (This was good but the original is better)
Yeah, they alright. Ain't no Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chris Stapleton, Mark Broussard, or Ottis Redding, but they good. Lol!! I'm just joking!! I like "Little River Band"!!!
The Little River Band was one of my favorite bands ever!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸 "Cool Change" and "Night Owl" we're two of my favorites!! Thanks for refreshing my memory😃👍❤️
Ok, so I reckon I've seen enough of your reactions to have made an informed choice about subscribing. Count me in. How about trying a band called Cold Chisel? Many great tunes to choose, but if you decide to try them maybe start with: When the war is over, Bow River, or Khe Sahn.
I love this song. And I do love hearing live versions. However, for me, I think I love the studio version much better!! It's slower and more meaningful. It just seemed like they rush through this song!!!
I had the great luck to see them twice in concert. The first time was when they were on their first tour at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. Late 70's. Such wonderful interaction with the audience. One of my all time favorite bands
People were appalled when this singer replaced the original. This newer singer did an amazing job but people weren't ready for all the different virtuoso stylistic additions he made and just thought he was a show off. Both versions are great in their own right.
hey Ty thanks for LRB grouse Aussie band Glen Shorrack was the original lead singer way better than John Farnham who is amazing in his own right you should check out his music as well specifically you're the voice which is practically our national anthem
@Bryce Corbin That's a bit unfair! Jeanette made a very reasonable comment. John is a sensational performer/singer, and l loved him in this role, and really got to know what he was capable of, but Glen is the traditional sound of LRB.
I love both versions. Different but amazing. Glen Shorrock & John Farnham are both brilliant singers. Haven't heard Glen Shorrock lately but Farnsey is still singing strong at 71😀
Holy crap! I was kind hating they idea of watching this one because i remember it as an ok but kind of generic and sterile song from the 70's but DAMN that was bad ass live!!!!!!!
In 1979 three of my best friends in high school and I had our senior informal picture taken together, and a line from the song was what we used to caption it....older times we're missing, spending the hours reminiscing. Two of us are still living.

And the Porter (Cole Porter) tunes made us dance across the room. It ended all too soon..." References to my Parents' Generation. I miss my Mom & Dad 💖🙏💖
Another one of his hits, Everytime you cry ... missed the 80s...no B.S of today
Ty for your awesome reaction 👏👏. Love Little River Band. They were great 🎼🎶. I think they were underrated. Love you doing 70s & 80s music. The best decades of music if u ask me. BTW great song!! 😄🙌
Underrated in the US maybe, in Australia they were huge.
Your right, 70s/80s were the greatest decades of pop/rock/metal/country and R&B
@Stephen S. Still are just saw em 2018-19 going stronger than eva
I can't tell you how you make me feel when you smile about our Johnny, makes me smile ... you got a lovely smile!
Never a better voice heard ever down under, John is the GOAT
I think he's playing so much with this song because there isn't anything really challenging about it -- at least not for HIM. He is such an amazing vocalist. I have no idea what his range may be, but I suspect it's more than 3. LOVE him, especially his duet with Jimmy Barnes "When Something Is Wrong with my Baby".
You should do some Bee Gees. You can't go wrong with them!! Thank you 🙌
Early Bee Gees before disco!
Anything Bee Gees!!!!!!
I love this idea. There has never been or will ever be any band like them. We are down to only one Bee Gee , Barry is a national treasure if you ask me . I have every 45 and 33 ever recorded by the Bee's from the 70's , I love them all even the disco , hell yes Staying Alive..absolutely any Bee Gee's song will do...To love somebody , I started a joke, Don't throw it all away..ect..ect..
so right Beth ... they are pure class.
"You Should Be Dancing" or "Tragedy".
Yes, thank you very much. I'll be taking the long way home...
Ric Formosa is a mate of mine....man, does he have some stories....
And John Farnham is a Brit!
I'm Black and I grew up on this music lol! My Dad was a musician
and my mom just liked "white" music. I laugh now when I think about it
but music is truly beautiful and needed to calm the 'savage beast" inside us all lol!
(This was good but the original is better)
I like all music, motown was an awesome label too. Love the classics, new music just don't have it.
AGREED
If it's good it's good!
Those were the days when the live version was the best version...great reaction :) Peace!
Little River Band was an Australian rock band popular here in the states in the late 70's and early 80's .
They still are popular and tour in the US.
Yeah, they alright. Ain't no Stevie Ray Vaughan, Chris Stapleton, Mark Broussard, or Ottis Redding, but they good. Lol!! I'm just joking!! I like "Little River Band"!!!
John Farnham is a living legend. THE VOICE
Is it just me or does his vocal style remind you of Stevie Wonder? Powerful voice.
He would be very flattered by your observation. He is a great fan of Stevie, and has performed a few of his songs over the years.
You loved john Farnham and that's who is singing
Cool change with this band, but glen shorrock as lead singer is a beauty. In Aussie...that means a good one. Lol
I love so much that this man is color blind and just appreciates good music. We should all be like this.
Many great tunes to choose, but if you decide to try them maybe start with:
When the war is over,
Bow River, or
Khe Sahn.
Omg...yes!! He must listen to Cold Chisel....or how about AC/DC??
I love this song. And I do love hearing live versions. However, for me, I think I love the studio version much better!! It's slower and more meaningful. It just seemed like they rush through this song!!!
I had the great luck to see them twice in concert. The first time was when they were on their first tour at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. Late 70's. Such wonderful interaction with the audience. One of my all time favorite bands
People were appalled when this singer replaced the original. This newer singer did an amazing job but people weren't ready for all the different virtuoso stylistic additions he made and just thought he was a show off. Both versions are great in their own right.
secondstarllc was
Kane m
couldn't have been said better ;)
I love him
@@kane29842 I love this version. Special voice.
hey Ty thanks for LRB grouse Aussie band Glen Shorrack was the original lead singer way better than John Farnham who is amazing in his own right you should check out his music as well specifically you're the voice which is practically our national anthem
@Bryce Corbin haha I love them both but come on Bryce it's only the truth 😉
Glenn was better end of story
John Farnham’s voice elevates it immensely, no one beats him live.
react to “baby come back” by player
Try Billy Currington. People are Crazy.
Yes people are crazy, and please do a reaction to the song people are crazy too
In 1979 three of my best friends in high school and I had our senior informal picture taken together, and a line from the song was what we used to caption it....older times we're missing, spending the hours reminiscing. Two of us are still living.
