Every manufacturer should pay guys like you to do their seats so we get beauty from the factory. Every bike should have a seat that nice. Nice to watch your skill.
You sir are a true craftsman. That is an absolutely beautiful seat, and I learned that while I am handy, I do not have the skill nor the tools to create something like that. just WOW.
Fantastic job at showing all the minor details of this process. You my friend are professional ☺️. I can appreciate your work after having done a dozen pieces myself in the last year.
@JohnHunt, Firstly, thank you for posting this amazing how-to video. It's great inspiration for me to do this on my own. But, I have questions... The backing material you are using on the Alcantara? What is it called? How thick? The thread you are using for the stitching. What material? What is the thickness of the thread. Is there a good place to source the materials? That super-duper chalk or pen you are using?
Ay John. That was so interesting to watch. End result looked perfect. I have an NC so it was very appropriate to me I fancy a go at this so I have purchased second hand pillion seat.. Any advice on sewing machines, materials etc Thanks
Hi an industrial walking foot sewing machine is the way to go. As for materials it’s up to you most upholstery fabrics, vinyls and leather will work, but cheap is not always better. Good luck with your seat thanks for watching John
Hello John , Great video. I was wondering ? what brother sewing machine you are using and I take it you are using leather ... so what oz.? MM Thickness is the leather, and size of needle with thread type you are working with ?
Wow, this makes me want to try and redo my stock Harley seat and just give it a shot. It most definitely won’t be as good as this, but I think I’m going to give it a shot when I get my new custom ordered seat and I’ll just have my crappy stock seat laying around. I just want to be able to swap from my new seat which is a 2up seat to my stock one which is a solo seat. ANYTHING is better than the stock 2020 Harley Davidson Street Bob (FXBB) seat! AMAZING job and attention to detail! Custom upholstery like this is such a cool thing to me, you just make it look so damn easy! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Totally fantastic job, i have the same bike main problem with seat is it slopes forward and very painful on long ride pressure on bum bones as not seating in middle of saddle is there a way to correct this r u long way from kent kind regards steve
I use either a space pen, stitch line pencil or tailors chalk for marking ( check it comes of ) after use damp cloth or stiff brush. Foam comes from Martrim.co.uk John
i was thinking about buying a pre-cut/made cover for my mt10. how hard is it to get all the creases out when stapling the material back to the plastic base? im just worried ill screw something up but im too cheap to take it to a professional 😅. too cheap to pay 400 beans for a aftermarket Sargent seat too.
If it’s a good cover it’s relatively easy process, use a heat gun, or maybe a hair dryer to warm cover up to aid fitting. You will need a decent stapler to. Good luck with your seat. John
I was really hoping that you would also show the fix for the problem with the NC700/750 seat that *everybody* complains about. And that is that it makes you slide forward all the time.because it is angled forward.
Great video! I was looking for this style of motorcycle seat as mine has become brittle and any pressure cracks the vinyl. It just so happens that I own a Honda Nc700x and I really like the multipiece seat design. Do you have a website with more pictures?
The problem with the standard NC750X is it needs to be a bit wider and made flat so you do not slide forward all the time. It looks good but try sitting on it for a few miles. It will make your eyes water.
Hello I'm looking for a complete tutorial on this subject but vant seam to find any...I want to reapholster my motorcycle seat but have no experience eager to learn and direction would be appreciated
Gene Holmes Hi there’s not one that fits all, it depends on the thickness of the base and the fabric being used. As a rule I use the longest I can but saying that 10mm is the longest I use sometimes 6mm and sometimes I have to use 4mm on the thinner plastic seat frames. Hope this helps John.
What is that electric knife machine you use to cut the material or foam? Maybe you can share the model or a link which one you use? Thanks and amazing work you do!
TopiT Canada it’s a led light with 6 small bulbs that fits nicely around the needle housing. I got it from eBay it was a while ago so no details sorry. Thanks for watching John

Foam comes from Martrim.co.uk John

Hi John, great video! Do you use a waterproof backing for the stitched seat please?
Yes I do!
Does the heat applied shrink the material or does it make it easier to stretch tighter ?
Joe Nanes heat helps soften the vinyl, it makes it easier to fit the cover. Thanks for watching John
