How in the world did you manage to register an old 2-stroke bike in California??? Not to mention the non-working lights, speedometer and no mirrors!! I live in California and I know CARB (California Air Resources Board) is trying to get rid of all 2-stroke vehicles including weed wackers and blowers. You are very lucky that someone at your local DMV office was slacking off on the job!
Great job on getting the bike registered. A quick tip for changing bike tyres, get yourself a worn out car tyre from the junkyard ( something like a 205/65-15 is perfect) and use it to rest the bike wheel on when changing tyres. The bike rim is supported on the sidewall of the car tyre so it doesn't try to move around when you're working on it and the hub and brake/ sprocket is lifted off the ground removing any chance of damaging either.
You really do need your own TV show. For some reason your generator video showed up on my UA-cam page last week and I've been binge watching your videos. Great stuff!!
It's worth noting that in many states the DMV will not give you a plate until they check the VIN# against the state's database, and make sure the vehicle has NEVER been registered for off-road use only! Once you clear that, they will verify the VIN# on the bike, and check the odometer reading for consistency with prior registration. Some states require that the bike pass inspection too.

Wow, you guys have it tough in the states, I'm from Australia and all you need to do here to get a bike on the road here is to call up your local dodgy roadworthy fella (hes the guy who gives the bike the okay to be registered) then to head down to your local TMR (what we call the DMV in Australia) and give them the roadworthy form and your good to go, you have to pay a bit extra for a dodgy roadworthy's but its worth it if you have a dodgy bike, total cost $198 AU for 6 months rego. I had a bike with non DOT tyres, a horn that didn't work and temperamental indicators, I got it registered no problem, cops here pull me up and say nothing about my tyres etc. It's pretty chilled here. Thankfully.

Hard to believe a California inspection would ignore a mirror. And a horn. It looked close to being a dual sport but I'd like to see everything operational.

My crf was sold to me with no title. Just a bill of sale. After some research and some loopholes I was able to not only get a title for my crf450 but plate it too. I look forward to build and tagging a cr500 here in the near future.

Someone may have said this already but if you partially inflate the tube you have less of a chance pinching it when putting the last side of the tire on.

Most American states don’t require turn signals to be on a motorcycle in order for it to be legal. That’s why they teach basic hand signals in every states driver training courses. You’re even required to know on your test what they mean to get your permit.
If I'm not mistaken your in Cali and could be wrong on that. If so how in the hell did you register a 2 stroke and Callie I thought they outlaw 2-stroke motorcycles and anything fun for that fact.

Chances are the people at the DMV didn't know enough/didn't care enough about what kind of bike, they probably care about 1) does it look like it's about to fall apart 2) does it have lights 3) does it have turn signals They probably don't know enough about bikes to check if there is even the switch on the damn thing to actually turn the signals on lol. He definitely faked it, signals aren't even wired in and he got the thing registered lol
Can't be real, it would never pass inspection. They would have you make sure the tail light is connected to a brake lever or pedal, horn works, headlight works, etc. This bike did not get a plate. Not in California, not since 2003. Period.
