(At the moment I have only used Philips Hue as a controller into Home Assistant, but I will add a ConBee to expand with Aqara sensors.)
I can’t get this to work with the smart plug from IKEA. Simply doesn’t show up in the Philips hue app. I have tried several times also tried to push the touch link button many times with no luck

No problem! Yes you're correct in all of your statements, that's why we bought one from the latest batch (how I know this only due to them selling out all the time and restocking). I've read online that some IKEA stores around the world can update your Trådfri devices for you, so that's also one alternative to be able to skip buying the Trådfri Gateway.

Worked for me. IKEA Trådfri outlet bought in June 2020, Philips hue gateway bought in March 2020

Still works 2023. Old bridge, new plug.
When you do this, is it still possible to dim the lights?
There'll be no dimming functionality as this is a Power Plug, so even if you connect this to lamp fixture this will not make that lamp dim.

Is there a specific reason why you connect it as a bulb and not as a powerplug?
From the Hue Essentials app, we've only really needed the touchlink function so that's why we pressed bulb in that app.
So now this is linked to Hue app, can it then be seen in HomeKit?
No, unfortunately only Philips Hue products can be seen in Homekit and no third-party products.

@@HumanSuten Hue Essentials. My touchlink will only direct me to premium which I have to pay for some effects I won't need so I didn't bother to buy.
If you have trouble with Touchlink then press it multiple times.
98621035 Touchlink is free in android os. But not on iOS.
