I just love to see, a beautiful Rolls Royce, rescued and returned to its former glory. I intended to do the same, with my 1989 Silver Spirit, I am reliably informed, that in-fact my series one model, is 22nd from last proudest, before the series 2 model of 1989.........I love this channel ❤️🇬🇧.
Gary, it’s obvious throughout this video, you’re first time seeing the beautiful classic, but sadly neglected Rolls Royce Corniche Convertible, you’re expression was one of sadness and then a determination to Restore this beautiful motor car, back to its former glory. The Corniche is very Lucky, that the new custodian, is none other than Gary Mavers. The best thing for both of you that has happened in years. 🇬🇧👍.
After being subscribed and watching a ton of videos on this channel, i just had to go back to where it all started. I really have to say watching Gary look over that Corniche in the stables with the Spirit of Estasy looking down at him was quite a mythical sight. I knew then and there he was going to purchase that car. To see both those black beauties in his garage was even more than i could even handle. WOW.
I saw Magnus Walker driving a 1975 Shadow LWB in Los Angeles the other day. But I think these cars are ridiculously undervalued here in the States. I've driven a good one and they are astoundingly good cars.
Just gone back in time and watched this video after the more recent ones. Well done Gary! You are an inspiration and love the Paul and Linda story. Great channel. Keep it up.
@@classic.obsession No it is perfect. This episode sets the stage for your "Classic Obsession" and what better way to showcase it with a story about Paul and Linda McCartney. I too wanted to go back to see where this channel started.
Me and my dad just bought a barn find, it's 81 convertible corniche. 900 original miles, but it is in boxes and completely torn down, big project. I really liked your video, your appreciation is inspiring to me. Looking forward to seeing the next one 😀 😄
You have just got a new subscriber here from Australia. So looking forward to the build. You had the exact same look on your face as i did when i purchased my 1978 Silver Wraith ll. Happy days indeed.
Hi Garry I found your channel by accident on UA-cam and I hope to watch many more videos from you, I love these old Rolls Royce’s too although I’ll probably never own one but I do enjoy watching them on here, I remember watching you on the TV playing a doctor instead of fixing up people on the telly now you’re fixing up cars on the internet, Good luck with the channel so far so good 👍🏼
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode, as a fellow Scouser now living in Germany I also remember seeing McCartney & wife in the same Corniche in Wallasey in the mid 70’s as he had a relative there. I to was smitten by the Corniche but still can’t afford one. The Rolls Royce Corniche is probably the coolest cabriolet of them all. Keep up the good work Gary.
Brings back memories when i was sorting trade painting on Rollers for a Liverpool Motor trader in the 90s..the guy in question was so fashion conscious he had a dozen or so matching colours on his horn rimmed glasses for each corniche he had on the books ..quite sentimental watching this..great job ..well done
The look of reverence say's it all . This is the episode i found to be really emotionally moving , It's as if you were feeling the cars history ! Well done Gary lad .
So happy that the youtube algorithim showed me your channel. I am really looking forward to more videos. The Corniche holds a particular happy spot in my heart as my late uncle in Devon owned one along with a thirties Lagonda and a Frog Eyed Sprite. He had a big old wooden barn and many a winters day I spent helping him keep the Lagonda and Sprite in shape and my special job. Washing and polishing the Corniche and the reward as a teenager. To drive down to the huge car park in Dawlish Warren where we lived and to be able to drive the cars on a Sunday morning before anyone was around. Until you drive one of these its hard to understand the appeal but once driven the bug has bitten! I now live in Austria and one of the great things here is the passion for "Old Timers" as they call vintage and classic cars here. There are some spectacular old Mercedes tootling around here. Yours would fit in perfectly. I highly recommend Austria as a place to drive old cars in, beautiful roads in excellent condition and a hugh diversity of scenery to enjoy. Keep up the good work Gary, I can tell this is going to be a gem of a channel!
I recognized you from TV so I looked you up nosy bugger) and I was sorry to read of your breakup and why, it happens, it happened to me, so I've watched a couple of videos and I like your style of presenting and explanation, I've subscribed and look forward to watching many more, thanks for doing a good job, unlike some.
Congratulations on your acquisition! Please note that the RR badge on the boot is incorrect, and it should be in the centre of the rear bumper on all chrome-bumpered cars. Also, the side marker lights are improperly positioned, and wouldn’t have been fitted to Home Market cars in any event. I look forward to following your progress.
I recall seeing you drive past me in a cream SL droptop when I was a kid in Huyton , I was a car nut and had never seen anything like it ! Met you in town years later and mentioned it to you, I didn't believe you when you told me you'd restored it yourself, think I just got my eye wiped lol, Nicely produced content and I look forward to more Gary
I remember Pat (Bomber) Roach turning up for a wrestling match in one of these....he was so big he made it look like a Mini. Big cars , big characters and awesome memories of a far better era I miss so much. The Spirit of Ecstasy , a symbol of dreams. Do you still have it ? Would you like to make a Lancashire lad very happy and fulfill a dream ? Great vlog evoking lovely memories and very nearly caused a face leak 🤣
Hi - great work!! To your Camera-Whizz: the sun on the cobweb with the background kid dreamy eyes envisioning the car coming back to life? Gold star sticker in your notebook to take home & show your mum !!
Yeah i was tearing up too at that point in the video. When he was self-reflecting on the Rolls and that Spirit of Estasy was looking down at hiim was truly a magical moment.
Having seen the Corniche at the Practical Classics Show and realising it belonged to Dr Attwood i had to subscribe and follow fhe restoration of this beautifal car. So glad i subbed, a brilliant first episode.
Just came across your channel Gary and watched this episode - going to watch the next one now ! I had no idea you were a car guy and going to watch your channel with interest. This Rolls Royce restoration looks fascinating and keen to see how you go about it. Best of luck with the Channel ! Cheers Stew
One of my neighbours had one of these as a new car back in the 70s. WHen he died, unexpectedly young, all of his cars seemed to disappear from around the family. So if this is a UK car and you find a surname in the log book beginning with "O" then it may be the same one.
gary off course you may think what you like. my thoughts you did not find her, she called you in waiting for years for the right one. great story bout linda and paul. uncle ernie auntie gin open the door ,let em in
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!! (BABBVEN LAWS AND TEBBVEN ORDERS)!!

Harry Metcalfe, Iain Tyrrell, and now Gary Mavers joins the pantheon. How am I supposed to get any work done?
