I don't think or remember ever ever ever leaving my car running outside somewhere.
In fact some States it's against the law to have a car running outside, known as a "puffer". In fact I would think your insurance company not like this habit at all and possibly canceling your policy.

Uh, it's ALSO illegal in EVERY State to drive over the posted speed limit. 'Of course', NO Corvette owner ever does that, eh? Isn't that why so many people want a 2023 Z06 with 670 bhp, to NOT ever drive over the speed limit? 😉 😂
Who would actually leave any car running and unlocked in a public location? Good luck with explaining that to law enforcement and your insurance provider. “Uh, Flo I left my C8 running and unlocked. Am I covered?” Response: “Sir, so how far behind were you on your payments?”

Rick ! Leaving your vehicle running while unattended even with the doors locked and in your own driveway, is against the law in Missouri and a lot of other states.
And it's illegal in EVERY State to drive over the posted speed limit. I'm sure 'no one' ever does that with a Corvette, eh? 🤫 😄
It’s against the law in Texas also to leave your car running or your keys in your car when you leave your vehicle

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the info about the theft secret on the key fob on the C8 Corvette I’m 59 years old and I’ve been driving a Corvette since I was in high school with a C3 piece car. I also want you to know there’s a company out there on Etsy that sells a locking system for your OBD two port it’s pretty ingenious, now they can’t get into your computer or your DEF system or change any thing to allow them to steal your car you might want to look that up I think they’re out of Houston Texas

You may want to mention that in many states, it is illegal to leave an unattended car running. Unattended usually means that no qualified driver is ibehind the wheel.

@@ModernGolfer Thanks for your astute observation. If you are speeding, you are still behind the wheel and have an opportunity to steer, brake, and avoid crashes, and no one can jump in the seat and drive off, excluding a carjacking attempt.
Rick, with the increase of carjackings what can be done to shut down the engine if someone has taken over you Vette? I believe OnStar could track it but who would have the situational awareness to immediately call them, or how to do it. Maybe another episode for you. Thanks for your great videos and Corvette information. BTW I will be at Ron Fellows in March, got to get that jacket.

Hi Rick, what happen if you had the top and windows down and leave it running while doing what you said to lock the doors with the key fob? Would it then be possible to drive away?

Not to get stolen is great. If it's running, I'm sure that it would get more attention. I even stopped street parking with my C8. I still do with my wife's 2012 Toyota RAV 4 though. Thank you for your time on this.

@@ModernGolfer Yeah, yeah, you got it right. I'm less careful with my wife's 2012 RAV4 than my 2022 C8 Stingray. It's old and got 150,000 miles and a broken window. My wife has another car. I hope that she thinks the same way as I do. Thank you for asking.

Isn't there a sensor to alarm the car. When u leave open windows or HTC open. ???
You should not be able to shift the car out of park without the key in the car period
and you should definitely not be able to start it without the key this is a flaw chevy should look into

Rick yes, Matt heck NO. It’s not about the constraint with Matt it’s all about profit. I have a idea. If Matt’s so worried about the availability on say the carbon fiber wheel and he’s only going to get 2 cars with that option maybe he should offer a special deal to the first ones on the list or have them order the wheels and buy them back. The first thing Mike does is change out the wheels. If Matt goes this route of jumping down the list he will lose customers. To me Matt’s idea is just a creative way of working down the list to get his favorites their car.

I had a Mustang if you left it running and looked the skiers the key fob wouldn’t open the door. You had to have a key!
If you really want to be worried about car being stolen.....get a Hellcat. Its comical how easily they get stolen.

@@RickCorvetteConti Some take for granted the locked ECU's on the C8s. Hellcats are open for tuning but also open for stealing. Local dealers had a bunch of thieves just walk up to the hellcats on their lot and smash the window, hook up a device, get the car on, and drive off.
Maybe if things don't work out for you selling Corvette's, you could become an actor??

I do, this was the example for those that leave the car running and do what I did...Think about it next time you stop at a gas station or store, see if there is a car running....kind of why I did this to draw attention to something different. Thanks for watching
That is pretty odd? That the C8 Corvette would let the driver restart the car one time without the key fob. I'm pretty certain that other Chevrolet vehicles won't permit restart without the key fob so I find it very interesting that the C8 will!!!
This just in: If you leave your car running and walk away, you get what you deserve!
The 1 question would be if you had Ryan shut the car off and open the door, close it again and then try and start it again. I would think that the car would not restart

I car got stolen for a week now c7 corvette from my house with out a key 😭😭is being a week now
This should be any easy fix for GM by programming the car so that it cannot taken out of park unless the key FOB is in the car. ? An OTA update? I would never leave my C8 unattended while running, locked or otherwise. Thanks for the info Rick.
Why dont you just put that club thing on your steering wheel when you park your car? they cant drive away if the steering wheel is locked with it !!!! ;)

A false sensation, there's no other way to describe the attempt to present a feature that essentially allows only an easy solution to a difficult life situation as a security risk. In part it is not new and in part it is thought out apparently beyond the comprehension of those who criticize it.
In recent days, the attached video of an American Chevrolet Corvette fan who believes he has exposed the car's safety hazards has begun to circulate around the world. This supposedly allows it to be stolen by basically anyone without a key, and although this is nonsense from A to Z, many media outlets continue to spread this fallacy.
The first premise of the author of the video is that if you drive the car to, say, a gas station to get a coffee or to the post office to drop off a letter and leave it running, anyone can drive off with it, even if you leave the keyless entry and start module in your pocket. And he can continue driving it as far as he likes.
It's also the first nonsense, because every keyless system allows something like that, and no wonder. The main reason is that the "key" can run out of battery and the car will stop "seeing" it just as if it were 100 miles away at that moment. If the car were to stop moving at such a moment, you might be forced to stop in the middle of the motorway, for example - it would not be safe or user-friendly.
Of course, if you leave your car with the engine running, it could be stolen, but don't... leave it unattended with the engine running. Plus, the Corvette has a solution for that, too. The car can be locked from the outside even in this condition, which the vast majority of cars don't allow at all. Here it works, the car just honks its horn to complain that you haven't turned off the engine. So no problem - the car can be switched off, entry by a stranger can be prevented, and the ability to use a previously started car without the key is actually a feature for you, not the thief. And it's perfectly normal.
The second objection is not quite so common. This is because if you drive away with a car started in this way without the key and turn off the engine, it will allow you to start it again once. That does smack of a safety risk and it's not even remotely common, we don't know of any other car that allows it. I been driving over 50 years, and I have never left my car running at any time. If you do, insurance will not cover you ,sorry Rick you should know better only boneheads do that.
