Incorrectly Installed Fans? Refitting fans in in my Kenwood TS-590SG

- My Kenwood TS-590SG was getting very hot when used in a SSB contest. Hot air was exiting from the underside rather from the rear.
At the time Kenwood had not received any other reports. Now seems a lot of the SG versions have the fans installed backwards? Easy to correct.
You don't need to take anything off to check fan orientation. Just shine a flashlight through the bottom vent holes. If you can see the fan labels facing the front of the radio, they're backwards.
Mike Thanks for Your Kenwood TS590SG Reversed Fans Video. I was lazy HiHi and hooked up a big dummy load and keyed it up on CW for a few minutes until the fans kicked on; then placed tissue paper under the front air intake and it stuck to the intake...Praise the Lord my fans were correctly installed. Got mine in Feb of 2015. Best of 73 Mike !! Lawrence VA7LTX
thanks. I thought the thing was getting awful hot. Hotter than my tube amp! Great video and yes mine were backwards. Great radio, just something that got goofed on it. 73 es thanks
Thanks Mike for the excellent detailed video. Yep, mine (B66......) were in backwards :-( But, thanks to your video I was able to correct the problem. As I understand it if you have a 590SG with serial numbers with B58 up through B67 there is a good chance your fans are in backwards.
Thx Mike...I had same issue...resolved today thanks to your video. My Radio is B62*
The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind. In this case it was blowing the wrong way.
Mike! Cheers for this mate. Mine were "arse about face". Checked today after a couple of long CW contacts when noticed rig getting a little too warm! Easy fix with your excellent guide. Thanks for posting this. 73 Nigel G4BSW
Thanks for the video, Mike. I will check my TS-590SG shortly.
Thank you so very much for such an in-depth instructional video. Great job, very nicely done. 73
Many thanks for your video. Mine was wrong too serial no. B571xxxx
Why wouldnt you use some soft cloth or rubber mat to put your radio onto instead of putting it directly onto a wooden bench ?.....crazy !!
Jeeez what a shit! And this radio IS expensive!
From which year or S/N this problem was sorted ?
This must be sorted out by now.........the brochure photo shows the fan HUBS are forward, and the 'scoup' of the fan blades clearly grab air running COUNTER clockwise....
Thanks - I had the same issue; now fans bring cool air in and flow over components through chassis and out the rear de WQ1Z
You do not need to take the feet & bail off.
Are you playing Defcon in the background or something?
How can I tell this procedure is required without disassembling the radio?
During CW operation is PA burdened even more than the SSB.
I did the same thing
