They should make it so that once the faction rallies goes off, you can still earn tokens but much less maybe like 2 tokens for completing a milestone, or nightfall, or crucible.
The biggest problem i had with this are the fact that it clearly favors warlocks given the healing rift and devour perks of just being a warlock. Yes hunter has the wormhust and titans can use the crest of alpha lupi, but warlocks have it just built in with no exotics required. I run my warlock by far the least, but as a solo grinder I ran it almost exclusively to get to rank 50 this week.
House of wolves had 0 cutscenes and more lore than entirety of Destiny 2. Taken king had few cutscenes but told a lot and the book of sorrows obtained from a boring search told a lot. The ship and the raid reflected some things. The fact they’re pulling away from cutscenes and presenting the story more by actual characters is rather something I always rooted for. This franchise is finally going in the direction I desire.

House of Wolves and Taken King were great. This might well be as well. But the price one has to pay is not. And the game as it stands at the moment is pointless. Hence my earlier post.
I really hope they make Facitons permanent. It would allow them to reintroduce faction quests, expand on the lore surrounding Facitons and tell an interesting story about Factions that give you a reason to be invested in them when a Rally rolls around. Not to mention it would be nice to be able to earn rewards for your faction all the time, not just during a one week sprint.
Don’t like renown. In theory renown should mean you become more famous amongst your enemies so they send out stronger, more high ranked enemies. Instead, it’s... “Become renown!........ So you can get nerfed!!” SMH. The point of wanting to join a faction is because their gear and their message is awesome. Without exclusive named enemies... and without a mechanic where you get badass exclusive weaponry (like the iron banner axe or scorch cannon) from your faction to balance out the stupid nerf, it doesn’t feel cool at all. It feels like a chore.

Yeah. Ive actually been running it in my head and considering a full 5 Renown gets you 10 tokens and a Heroic PE gets you 5 it MAY be faster to farm PEs as a solo player than to do a Lost Sector. Lets say you do 2 PEs to get 5 Renown, about 3-8 minutes a Event if you have a decent turnout and decent players, then it takes another 6-15 minutes to do the LS because of being gimped. Thats a total of 12 minutes minimum or 36 on the high end. Now that got you a total of 20 Tokens. Doing 4 PEs on Heroic will at minimum take 12 minutes, so about the same as doing 2 and a LS, or 32 minutes max. So doing nothing but PEs could potentially give you a better return on time spent than farming LSs. I thought LSs with Renown would give you like 15 or even 20 plus tokens. Considering the time it takes to get the Renown, get to the LS and get through it without dieing its just not worth.

I agree. Sometimes you don't get everything because work or timing screws you over. What I'd like as a softener is maybe an "end of year" event where you have two weeks or so to get things from the events of the past year that you didn't have a chance to get in the events themselves. Like faction rally, crimson doubles, iron banner, what have you. Just for those who happened to be out on a work trip that particular week or just had a baby or whatever rng mucked your chances that particular week.
Having done all 3 class for dead orbit a few changes would be welcome imo. Renown on/off option and higher difficulty options Chest plate ornament requirements lowered by 30% ish Armour purchasable for tokens from vendors Higher token rewards for raids and end game activities. I got rank 50 much before I finished the chest plate ornaments for each class when I initially thought it would be the other way around. Also I would like something higher as a stretch goal, rank 100 for an aura until next rally etc.
The cinematic scenes are one of my favorite parts of Destiny. Seeing my character interact with other npcs in a way other than idle game animations/dialogue
The catalysts are locked behind factions just so different factions can win every season. Once a majority of people get the graviton lance catalyst DO won’t win since the other catalysts are wanted
That's what I'm hoping for too, but I'm also halfway convinced that more people will continue to gravitate (😉) toward Dead Orbit if they missed this rally/didn't finish. I guess we'll see.
BONUS THOUGHT REACTION: I really hope they’re going more “Taken War”. I loved how to Taken King “ended”, but then you had almost the same amount of content to play AFTER the story that was CONTEXTUAL to the post-story! Hunting down and clearing the Taken, taking on taken bosses filling the power vacuum etc. You got a lot of story through these missions and I’d love to see that approach, for a whole year of content. Add a new strike in October that deals with post story content, add a new pvp map and make me clear the area of enemies in a strike like format first!
You implied that House of Wolves was the most satisfying DLC mini-campaign. I think it’s worth also mentioning that HoW didn’t have any cutscenes other than the very short intro cinematic. I agree that HoW set up and executed a decent mini-campaign, and the lack of cutscenes in it is a good indicator that Bungie will be able to do that in the future as well. This is a good move for them. Keep those mini content injections about the content.
Also, Mercury is the best place to get your Renown to rank 5 in a few minutes, the heroic event rewards you 5 Renown and 7 tokens and then you do the 3 jump portal Minotaurs and get 5 Renown in another few minutes (if you have the full set of faction gear)
I loved the Faction rally, i am done with all of the grind for FWC, completed everything with last night and it wasn't that hard, just doing the milestones on the first day and doing milestones (flashpoint and clan xp) on the second day with FR in mind i was already at level 34 with only about 4-5 hours invested in those two days. Now i would like to have those mechanics brought into more activities, to see a progress bar towards a goal.
We'll see how this whole thing goes, but at the moment I'm not particularly sold the current setup. Adding layers to the gameplay loop with Renown and giving tangible benefits to wearing your faction's gear set are great additions (especially with a little more refining), but the masterworks create more problems than their worth. As you've said, having unique masterworks tied to individual factions breaks the fantasy of what the faction rally is supposed to be. I agree that giving each faction access to all three masterworks would help alleviate this, but I'm not convinced that such functional, gameplay-impacting items should be locked behind rank 50 at all. I'd much prefer to see time-limited rewards requiring exceptional time commitment kept to cosmetic items only. If Dead Orbit offered an Ornament for Graviton Lance at rank 50 instead, that'd be totally fine by me. In this vein, I'd like to see the Faction-specific Ornaments expanded. It's great that New Monarchy has a cool ornament for the Titan's Crest of Alpha Lupi, and Dead Orbit has an awesome one for Warlocks with Eye of Another World, but what if I'm running a hunter? My only option is FWC? It runs into the same issue as the weapon catalysts where the gear interest is superseding faction preference. I think if each faction had an ornament for every class, the masterwork catalysts could be removed from the pool entirely. Similarly to your suggestion for the catalysts, you would be limited to one ornament per rally so if you wanted the full season's FWC exotic lineup, you'd need to commit for all three rallies (as of now, you get a ship for that, which is neat too).
Heroic strike modifier idea: You start with 1 renown per faction gear you have on. You lose one per death, and you gain more with orange enemy kills or checkpoints. The Heroic modifiers are off so long as no renown is on your character, and they activate (and scale) with renown. With full reknown you get 30-60 tokens for heroics (it takes longer than lost sectors). Boom, Heroic Strike faction grind is viable.
Yesss! I am all for your idea of being able to choose 1 of the 3 exotic catalysts after reaching rank 50, instead of (basically) being forced to pick Dead Orbit for the Graviton Lance masterwork
I don't care for this new system, my guardians aren't all the same character with the same goals, outlook, and personality. This is just artificial inflation to gameplay without adding any more gameplay. At least in D1 I had the option to create my own little story and headcannon
There should be a stash by the world vendors that any player can deposit their renown into. when the stash is full a special very hard public event occurs (like a single level of protocol) and random strike modifiers can replace the standard attrition modifier. When that PE is completed any guardians who participated get tons of tokens and full sets of armor grant more. It's just more fun to play with a bunch of guardians then running lost sectors solo.
The grind to rank 50 to get the exotic catalysts reminds me of the grind to get the exotic class items in D1. The grind wasn’t a problem until Bungie released legendary versions of the exotic class items in Rise of Iron.
That sums it up nicely. I like the "challenge" this brings, even tho a little annoyed at having to unlock 15 armor ornaments since they are are not account wide this time. It gives the grind more meaning, even if it is still overall a stagnant environment. Forsaken is gonna be a long wait.

I love the idea of picking just one Faction but I hate the ideal that the loot isn't fully available and the rewards aren't equal among factions. For this to truely work, Bungie need to remove the idea of a winning weapon and instead make it something like winners get 10% more XP for a week and they need to make it so when you reach rank 50 NO MATTER WHAT FACTION, you get that said faction rally Catalyst and Ornament. So its a featured reward type thing. Next rally would have a different one and so on until the seasons over. So you can make a decision early on if you want to grind for something or not. Or maybe go with what Datto said and have the Catalysts just be pick the one you want with all available after rank 50 no matter the faction still and then keep them there for each repeating event for the season so you can farm for one slowly over the season if you don't have time to play. Just all I know is, having to pick a faction because of the reward they offer isn't the way to go. I want to pick my faction because i've picked them all the way back in Destiny 1 and for RPG sake I feel like I should stay FWC, Im an Exo Warlock Im part of FWC, thats my shtick for this game. Its why I main a Warlock. If Bungie can reinforce this while making loot fair thats great, if not you get people that become annoyed.
So I just finished grinding out my faction catalyst literally an hour ago and here is my take: Overall, I think the changes to faction rally are very positive. I really like the renown system and really liked having the feeling back of being able to log in every day and make a little progress towards a large goal. This is something that I've missed in Destiny for a long time. I did all of my catalyst grinding on Titan with ogre lost sector in the rig. I did a little grinding over the work week that got me to rank 10 or so, and then went from rank 10-50 last night and this morning. Cumulative, I probably spent about 6 total gameplay hours grinding from rank 0 to catalyst. I was power-leveling it though; if you wanted to take it at a more casual pace it would probably take 8-9 gameplay hours. As someone who absolutely hated the Osiris Prophecy weapon grind; I was legitimately surprised how fun the Renown System made the gameplay loop (I played on VoidWalker Warlock to bypass Attrition). It didn't feel like nearly as much of a chore as I wasn't praying to RNJesus for drops, could constantly make progress, and could see that progress reflected in my token count. I went after the Gravitron Lance Catalyst and have since unlocked it (took 1 hour of grinding Thrall in the Hephaetus Adventure). I haven't played with Sunshot or Sweet Business, but can say the G Lance grind is absolutely worth it. Gravitron already felt like a scout without the catalyst, but with it, it is pretty much a dual purpose scout/pulse. There is a huge and noticeable difference. It's tons of fun in both PVP and PVE. All of that being said, I did definitely feel a little bit of the time crunch on grinding towards my catalyst that I didn't like. I felt like I had to no-life it yesterday or I wasn't going to get it done. As Datto said in the video, I'm fine with not everyone getting everything, but at the same time, I'd be nice if faction rally was a two week event instead of a one week event to allow players to space out the grind a little more. TL;DR - Very pleasantly surprised by the new faction rally system.
Also if you hate renown because of Attrition, there are tons of ways to get around it: Crimson on any class, Devour Warlock, Bottom Tree Striker Titan, and WormHusk Crown Hunter. If you're a Warlock, Devour is easiest; otherwise I would just use Crimson on the other classes.

i agree with you about the bonus thoughts on the story, when they made the warmind dlc. they made no room for any other story telling about the warmind. and the warmind is my Favorite part of this entire game, and they just put the stake in its grave in four missions.
Completely agree with your bonus thoughts here sir - hopefully this is also a bit of an acknowledgement from Bungie (though you will definitely have better / deeper insight on this than the average player like myself) that calling the smaller drops (ie the stuff that is not a main title or Year 2 release like The Taken King and Forsaken) expansions is not productive in terms of setting player expectations. If those are called Content Drops / DLC something like that, then I'm OK with them expanding the loot pool, giving me some more endgame activities, and enriching the experience for a other few months until the next one.
On the bonus thoughts; I’m glad they’re admitting if they can’t hit TTK levels of story, they’re just going to back burner it in an effort to focus more on gameplay and world building. Having story and cutscenes is pointless if it’s....bad. It’s costly to make story content that is consumed once and left behind.
I really would like to see factions expanded upon in the future. I really don't like how players pick a faction because "Their colors are cool" or "Their guns are better". I want players to represent their faction because they actually believe in their cause. I want players to support new monarchy because they care about the city, I want people to pledge to FWC because they believe we need to always be prepared for whatever comes our way, I want people to pledge to Dead orbit so that way we know what pussies not to associate with. Common bungie, wouldn't that be dope?
I really wish they added a mechanic similar to Warframe where once you gain enough status for your faction, other factions start to notice and may send out assassin parties to take you out. I don't know how this would work out in terms of lore since the peace between the factions is a little shaky but it would be interesting from a game-play standpoint.
If you have a friend or two, your friend(s) can clear a lost sector and stand at the lootbox at the end while you wear your full Faction Armor and clear a Heroic Public Event. Finish the event and sprint to the lost sector, collect the 8 tokens, rinse and repeat. This works best if your friend(s) have already cleared their 50 Ranks or you take turns on who clears.
I still love the fact that you, to my knowledge, are the only (mainly) Destiny-Tuber without a damn annoying cheap 3D-somehow made up intro with an even more annyoing theme + cheap click baits in the video titles. i just want to add that the masterwork rewards is very likely going to be there after forsaken comes out so it can be a long term goal to grind to rank 50 for people with less time to play so they will eventually get the masterwork they want
I like the renown idea. It makes it a little funner to play. I hated the lost sector farming in season 1 and 2. This renown system makes stuff more fun. It a good step in the right direction
I like the idea of not focusing so much on cut scenes. I'm sure it's expensive to develop that kind of content for something that probably gets played once and then forgotten...even in D1 where we had heroic story missions, I don't think they were the most played content. Focusing more on what we come back to everyday/week is probably a better investment for Bungie. Also, in my opinion I think better stories were told in the Grimoire, which it looks like we are getting some version of in Forsaken.
Most people skip cutscenes to get back to fighting, if they put overarching story in I don't think anyone would notice. But they did have one Ikora voiceline in the Pyramidion strike about Osiris, the Arebico adventure hinting at warminds on Mars (wtf happened to that btw? Like I was interested as to what the cache's were and they're just loot holders) and the cutscene at the very end of campaign with the space triangles. There's not enough story hype because THEY DON'T TELL ENOUGH STORY.
The suggestion for renown to be added to heroics, raids and PvP is a good one. I liked the grind with the Lost Sectors but I can understand why many would not. Having different options but keeping it grindy can and should be done.
I think renown should be an infamous mark against players who have it, the more stacks you have the higher the chance that the enemies start throwing tougher dudes at you, and the more players together that have full stacks of renown the bigger the fights get, instead of just nerfing our movement and health regeneration. And by surviving and killing these targets you get stacks of coins, it could replace the enemy supply public event and just be a smaller form of horde mode and EP
Once again, Datto nails it. Everything he's said in the video I completely agree with. He understands everything. I just wish there were more people in this community like him. We need more people who are able to logically think about things like this.
renown would be more interesting in strikes I think, because there is a much longer period and difficulty of NEVER dying...it would definitely be challenging
I think that renown should count from the moment you land on your first planet and do your first thing until the moment where you log out of the game. And it should be less punishing - Instead of "things" based it should be "enemies" based - the more enemies you kill, the bigger multiplier for your renown you get [and you can add a time limit where if you don't kill, the multiplier gets worse]. That way with the multiplayer being stale and dependable on ANYTHING - all the possible things could count in token farming - from patrols through strikes.
I feel you about the FWC pride, I have been day 1 New Monarchy and never ranked up anything else. I want the sunshot catalyst, it`s my favorite exotic but I ain`t changing sides.
I think a good Improvement to the renown system would be having all weapons increase renown again so all armor +1 all weapons +1 for a total of 2 speeds up the grind with doing a public event for 5 renown and tokens and then lost sector for 10 and don't make me pick other factions because they have ornaments it kills my faction pride( I literally changed my gamertag to executor I can't be running dead orbit )
The biggest thing is the ornament grind, I didn't notice they were different between characters till rank 20. They just need to have more tokens drop in the different events. I am all for lost sectors being the main place to get drops but only getting 35 tokens from a trails flawless or 30 tokens from a prestige is sad.
The Renown system should be the 1-week-per-month deal, all other tokens should be earnable all the time so we can work toward rank 50. Basically I'm locked out of getting all 3 exotic catalysts because I scheduled a vacation a year ago that ended up being during faction rally.
I think a Renown score card either for Raids or Strikes similar to the nightfall score card would be cool if they make Faction Rally only modifiers that increase Faction tokens. Also make the Renown thing around our head into an Aura attached to an emblem please.
I dont mind Renown being in the Heroic strikes, but it best be worth it since the Heroic strikes are already semi-hard(annoying w/Blackout and Grounded). A heroic strike with 4-5 Renown would probably take twice as long compared to a normal Heroic strike cause enemies will be way harder to kill and we will die way easier, so people are probably gonna camp out w/Scout Rifles and play it super safe. If a Heroic strike with 5 Renown isnt paying at least 25 tokens, then I would just rather stick to doing PE and LS(15 tokens in 5-7 minutes)
Considering how 'real' the grind is *and* the fact that you get a bonus for wearing the full set not being able to buy specific parts is kinda a big oversight. Also: That teleport at 7:53
I enjoy the fact that you are rewarded by wearing full faction gear. I hope the implementation of wearing certain gear is looked into more. Give us reasons to use what we got.
If you do the daily milestones for 3× lost sectors with 5× you will get 25 faction token instead of 15 for a total of 75 which is about double what you suggested to people. You would need 143 a day to finish each one.
Don't know if you remember, but Destiny 2 made you do Lost Sectors as a Milestone every day of the Faction Rally in the past. Whatever planet was that week's Flashpoint was also used for Faction Rally. Back then; however, you had to destroy the cache boxes to get your tokens. The caches are still there, but now don't matter to the every at all. Even now; daily Faction Rally Milestones are to loot a Lost Sector cache on whatever planet is chosen with 3x renown. So players are doing Lost Sectors because Bungie is telling them too, and yes it's the fastest way, but you kind of left that part out!
My main gripe about FR was that "Your choice matters now!" bullshit while locking EXOTIC rewards behind each faction. That's not what "Your choice matters now," means, Bungo. Ugh. Hopefully they change it next rally with what Datto suggested and you can get all the exotic stuff from just one faction. Or at the VERY least, rotate them around.
You should not mix your personal desires with what's best for the game. "Not everyone should be able to get everything." True in some aspects, but not everything should have this rule applied, same goes to the difficulty that you so much crave for my friend, equip under leveled gear and go do the strikes so you can feel the negative modifiers you think aren't impressive lol, just a reminder to separate what YOU want with what you think is best for the game, and everyone else.
If I could just have the full sets I’d be able to grind out the ornaments. But as my luck would have it I am still missing one piece from my rank 50 character.
just a thought here. they could add some sort of renown system into PvP as well. like for example, implement it through the winstreak system. the more win streaks a player has, the more tokens they are able to get. if they lose, they lose stacks of the winstreak and thus, the number of tokens gained decrease. idk, its just a thought. thoughts on it?
I like renown as well and the mechanic of bonus renown for wearing full set is a great idea IF I WAS ABLE TO GET THAT FREAKING HELMET SOMETIME IN THE FIRST 50 PACKAGES!!! Literally got everything except the helmet. On my 50th package, I finally got the helmet.
The whole bit about not being able to be able to buy faction armor being a "glitch" doesn't really matter if it doesn't get fucking fixed during the rally. You need the full faction armor set to get renown faster AND you need the full armor set for some of the ornament challenges. If you get unlucky (like I have so far) you're just straight screwed out of those entirely. Then next faction rally you can't even go back and continue where you left off without giving up an exotic catalyst and exotic ornament from another faction since we're only getting 3 faction rallies. Also I'm not so sure about the whole "you can grind the ornaments during the victory week" bit when some of the ornament requirements specifically require renown. Why would we still have renown during the victory week if we no longer have tokens to earn and turn in?
In a game like this I definitely want to see more action driven story and less cut scenes. I very rarely enjoy cut scenes tbh. I want the story telling to be vague and interesting and of specific parts of the lore.
I hear you on the story thoughts and future expansions, with everything thats happened in the Destiny universe very little has had a visual impact on the world around my character. I’m not especially invested in anyone and there doesn’t seem to be a continuity of my characters previous actions reflected in the world around them (like I feel like Osiris or the Brays aren’t come up again at all, they just seem like set pieces). Forsaken looks promising in depth of gameplay and grinding and the like, but what’s really gonna sell me is depth of narrative. Give the Factions a bit more personality and impact outside the rallies for example, garner a more vested interest when choosing sides and collecting tokens or resources for your faction. Just my thoughts on thoughts and the game’s path forward.
I honestly liked the faction rally but my only real issues were, 1. Rng getting armor, took me 35 ranks to get warlock gloves. And 2. Some armor ornament requirements are stupid, my warlocks chest was open like 34 HVT chests, took longer than all the other warlock ornaments combined.
For me the problem isn't the 50 ranks its the ornaments requiring the full armour. 1000 tokens and I'm still missing a full hunter set and missing the chest for titan and that is with already having the warlock set. having that bug go unfixed was a big part of my frustration with this rally
I’m a hardcore player with 3 high light characters. I did this specifically for faction rallies as I know that some weeks I will have no time and some weeks I will have a lot of time to grind. I think that only being able to support one faction per account and not per character is a little bit dumb because I want to be able to have every masterwork eventually being the player I am but I am unable to now because I happen to be busy this week. As someone who is a hardcore player though I would normally have a way around this by being able to grind out each of my characters just one of the faction rallies, whereas most softcore players only have one character. So it would still hold up to the argument that people who spend 2 hours shouldn’t get as much as the people who spend 20 hours. Besides, I would be putting in the same amount of time anyways, just in a shorter timeframe than most people.
If you want to get the ornaments, you have to spend renown. The only way I know of to spend renown is to do a lost sector. So yeah, you kinda have to grind lost sectors to get everything.
To get to rank 50 you would need a total of : 1000 tokens Meaning you would need to farm lost sector 100 times if you always get 5 renown and each would give 10 tokens.
PLEASE ADVISE: Is there a way to make it to LVL 30 without farming Lost Sectors? I played every activity, and got the powerful engrams for everything but the raid, on all three of my characters and still only made it to LVL 24.

Im FWC for life and i wont be able to get graviton's catalyst because i will NEVER sully myself with joining DO or NM. My post mentions that I thought it would be better if the Catalysts went to new, faction exclusive weapons. (though I totally like your idea with being able to choose a catalyst when we hit 50. Hadn't thought of that lol) I likened this to D1 where we had class exclusive weapons, so me, only playing as a warlock, wasn't going to miss out on not having that Titan Exclusive auto rifle. If I read the TWAB correctly, you're faction rank carries to the other factions meet rally. So if I pledge to New monarchy now and hit rank 30, I can pick dead orbit next time and be at rank 30.
I enjoy the lost sectors more than I enjoy strikes. Strikes are long and annoying. They’re great for nightfall’s but not for grinding over and over. I really like your idea of giving all the catalysts to each faction. I also like the idea of faction rewards being around forever. Faction rally’s should be the only time where people can switch faction and get renown.
I don't understand why they kept the explosive packs in the lost sectors since they don't give you tokens anymore and in fact can get you killed which happened to me on a few occasions
The new faction rallies reworks makes me happy for the future. Bungie has clearly gotten the message that hardcore community is bigger than the casual community who complained about not having time to get anything all through D1 causing D2 to be how it was. With the collections, triumphs, leveling masterworks, and all that, I can't wait to be a completion hunter (as a Titan cause master race btw) again.
Renown should be stacked in larger quantities and reward you exponentionally with more tokens the more you have renown on you. the higher the risk the higher the reward. Crucible and Strikes could also have a renown system going on that could be based on performance. I like the idea of faction gear giving you a bonus regarding the rally and I would like to see that getting more depth as well. Like using faction weapons giving you a random token drop every now and then when you get kills. See it as advertising each faction during a rally. " Hey we have the best gear, join us!" Just some minor tweaking here and there on how much you get. I do like that sense of exclusivity the game has in making it a bit of a challenge to get everything if you want. If only the gear was as good though.

What if during strikes you start with max renown and as you die, your stacks go down. Instead of having to work up to renown over X strikes, you have to keep your renown from the beginning every strike.

The biggest problem i had with this are the fact that it clearly favors warlocks given the healing rift and devour perks of just being a warlock. Yes hunter has the wormhust and titans can use the crest of alpha lupi, but warlocks have it just built in with no exotics required. I run my warlock by far the least, but as a solo grinder I ran it almost exclusively to get to rank 50 this week.

House of wolves had 0 cutscenes and more lore than entirety of Destiny 2.
Taken king had few cutscenes but told a lot and the book of sorrows obtained from a boring search told a lot. The ship and the raid reflected some things.
The fact they’re pulling away from cutscenes and presenting the story more by actual characters is rather something I always rooted for. This franchise is finally going in the direction I desire.

House of Wolves and Taken King were great. This might well be as well. But the price one has to pay is not. And the game as it stands at the moment is pointless. Hence my earlier post.
I really hope they make Facitons permanent. It would allow them to reintroduce faction quests, expand on the lore surrounding Facitons and tell an interesting story about Factions that give you a reason to be invested in them when a Rally rolls around. Not to mention it would be nice to be able to earn rewards for your faction all the time, not just during a one week sprint.
Don’t like renown. In theory renown should mean you become more famous amongst your enemies so they send out stronger, more high ranked enemies. Instead, it’s... “Become renown!........ So you can get nerfed!!” SMH. The point of wanting to join a faction is because their gear and their message is awesome. Without exclusive named enemies... and without a mechanic where you get badass exclusive weaponry (like the iron banner axe or scorch cannon) from your faction to balance out the stupid nerf, it doesn’t feel cool at all. It feels like a chore.

Yeah. Ive actually been running it in my head and considering a full 5 Renown gets you 10 tokens and a Heroic PE gets you 5 it MAY be faster to farm PEs as a solo player than to do a Lost Sector. Lets say you do 2 PEs to get 5 Renown, about 3-8 minutes a Event if you have a decent turnout and decent players, then it takes another 6-15 minutes to do the LS because of being gimped. Thats a total of 12 minutes minimum or 36 on the high end. Now that got you a total of 20 Tokens. Doing 4 PEs on Heroic will at minimum take 12 minutes, so about the same as doing 2 and a LS, or 32 minutes max. So doing nothing but PEs could potentially give you a better return on time spent than farming LSs.
I thought LSs with Renown would give you like 15 or even 20 plus tokens. Considering the time it takes to get the Renown, get to the LS and get through it without dieing its just not worth.

What I'd like as a softener is maybe an "end of year" event where you have two weeks or so to get things from the events of the past year that you didn't have a chance to get in the events themselves. Like faction rally, crimson doubles, iron banner, what have you. Just for those who happened to be out on a work trip that particular week or just had a baby or whatever rng mucked your chances that particular week.
Having done all 3 class for dead orbit a few changes would be welcome imo.

The cinematic scenes are one of my favorite parts of Destiny. Seeing my character interact with other npcs in a way other than idle game animations/dialogue

BONUS THOUGHT REACTION: I really hope they’re going more “Taken War”. I loved how to Taken King “ended”, but then you had almost the same amount of content to play AFTER the story that was CONTEXTUAL to the post-story! Hunting down and clearing the Taken, taking on taken bosses filling the power vacuum etc. You got a lot of story through these missions and I’d love to see that approach, for a whole year of content. Add a new strike in October that deals with post story content, add a new pvp map and make me clear the area of enemies in a strike like format first!
You implied that House of Wolves was the most satisfying DLC mini-campaign. I think it’s worth also mentioning that HoW didn’t have any cutscenes other than the very short intro cinematic.
I agree that HoW set up and executed a decent mini-campaign, and the lack of cutscenes in it is a good indicator that Bungie will be able to do that in the future as well. This is a good move for them. Keep those mini content injections about the content.
A special faction rally challenge card would be good. Special modifiers for strikes and nightfalls during the rally would be a great idea!
3:00 i think that all factions having all catalysts available makes tons of sense to me. One catalyst per rally.
Also, Mercury is the best place to get your Renown to rank 5 in a few minutes, the heroic event rewards you 5 Renown and 7 tokens and then you do the 3 jump portal Minotaurs and get 5 Renown in another few minutes (if you have the full set of faction gear)
I loved the Faction rally, i am done with all of the grind for FWC, completed everything with last night and it wasn't that hard, just doing the milestones on the first day and doing milestones (flashpoint and clan xp) on the second day with FR in mind i was already at level 34 with only about 4-5 hours invested in those two days. Now i would like to have those mechanics brought into more activities, to see a progress bar towards a goal.
We'll see how this whole thing goes, but at the moment I'm not particularly sold the current setup. Adding layers to the gameplay loop with Renown and giving tangible benefits to wearing your faction's gear set are great additions (especially with a little more refining), but the masterworks create more problems than their worth. As you've said, having unique masterworks tied to individual factions breaks the fantasy of what the faction rally is supposed to be. I agree that giving each faction access to all three masterworks would help alleviate this, but I'm not convinced that such functional, gameplay-impacting items should be locked behind rank 50 at all. I'd much prefer to see time-limited rewards requiring exceptional time commitment kept to cosmetic items only. If Dead Orbit offered an Ornament for Graviton Lance at rank 50 instead, that'd be totally fine by me.
In this vein, I'd like to see the Faction-specific Ornaments expanded. It's great that New Monarchy has a cool ornament for the Titan's Crest of Alpha Lupi, and Dead Orbit has an awesome one for Warlocks with Eye of Another World, but what if I'm running a hunter? My only option is FWC? It runs into the same issue as the weapon catalysts where the gear interest is superseding faction preference. I think if each faction had an ornament for every class, the masterwork catalysts could be removed from the pool entirely. Similarly to your suggestion for the catalysts, you would be limited to one ornament per rally so if you wanted the full season's FWC exotic lineup, you'd need to commit for all three rallies (as of now, you get a ship for that, which is neat too).
Heroic strike modifier idea: You start with 1 renown per faction gear you have on. You lose one per death, and you gain more with orange enemy kills or checkpoints. The Heroic modifiers are off so long as no renown is on your character, and they activate (and scale) with renown. With full reknown you get 30-60 tokens for heroics (it takes longer than lost sectors). Boom, Heroic Strike faction grind is viable.

I don't care for this new system, my guardians aren't all the same character with the same goals, outlook, and personality. This is just artificial inflation to gameplay without adding any more gameplay. At least in D1 I had the option to create my own little story and headcannon
There should be a stash by the world vendors that any player can deposit their renown into. when the stash is full a special very hard public event occurs (like a single level of protocol) and random strike modifiers can replace the standard attrition modifier. When that PE is completed any guardians who participated get tons of tokens and full sets of armor grant more. It's just more fun to play with a bunch of guardians then running lost sectors solo.
The grind to rank 50 to get the exotic catalysts reminds me of the grind to get the exotic class items in D1. The grind wasn’t a problem until Bungie released legendary versions of the exotic class items in Rise of Iron.
That sums it up nicely. I like the "challenge" this brings, even tho a little annoyed at having to unlock 15 armor ornaments since they are are not account wide this time. It gives the grind more meaning, even if it is still overall a stagnant environment. Forsaken is gonna be a long wait.

I love the idea of picking just one Faction but I hate the ideal that the loot isn't fully available and the rewards aren't equal among factions. For this to truely work, Bungie need to remove the idea of a winning weapon and instead make it something like winners get 10% more XP for a week and they need to make it so when you reach rank 50 NO MATTER WHAT FACTION, you get that said faction rally Catalyst and Ornament. So its a featured reward type thing. Next rally would have a different one and so on until the seasons over. So you can make a decision early on if you want to grind for something or not.
Or maybe go with what Datto said and have the Catalysts just be pick the one you want with all available after rank 50 no matter the faction still and then keep them there for each repeating event for the season so you can farm for one slowly over the season if you don't have time to play.
Just all I know is, having to pick a faction because of the reward they offer isn't the way to go. I want to pick my faction because i've picked them all the way back in Destiny 1 and for RPG sake I feel like I should stay FWC, Im an Exo Warlock Im part of FWC, thats my shtick for this game. Its why I main a Warlock. If Bungie can reinforce this while making loot fair thats great, if not you get people that become annoyed.
So I just finished grinding out my faction catalyst literally an hour ago and here is my take:
Overall, I think the changes to faction rally are very positive. I really like the renown system and really liked having the feeling back of being able to log in every day and make a little progress towards a large goal. This is something that I've missed in Destiny for a long time.
I did all of my catalyst grinding on Titan with ogre lost sector in the rig. I did a little grinding over the work week that got me to rank 10 or so, and then went from rank 10-50 last night and this morning. Cumulative, I probably spent about 6 total gameplay hours grinding from rank 0 to catalyst. I was power-leveling it though; if you wanted to take it at a more casual pace it would probably take 8-9 gameplay hours.
As someone who absolutely hated the Osiris Prophecy weapon grind; I was legitimately surprised how fun the Renown System made the gameplay loop (I played on VoidWalker Warlock to bypass Attrition). It didn't feel like nearly as much of a chore as I wasn't praying to RNJesus for drops, could constantly make progress, and could see that progress reflected in my token count.
I went after the Gravitron Lance Catalyst and have since unlocked it (took 1 hour of grinding Thrall in the Hephaetus Adventure). I haven't played with Sunshot or Sweet Business, but can say the G Lance grind is absolutely worth it. Gravitron already felt like a scout without the catalyst, but with it, it is pretty much a dual purpose scout/pulse. There is a huge and noticeable difference. It's tons of fun in both PVP and PVE.
All of that being said, I did definitely feel a little bit of the time crunch on grinding towards my catalyst that I didn't like. I felt like I had to no-life it yesterday or I wasn't going to get it done. As Datto said in the video, I'm fine with not everyone getting everything, but at the same time, I'd be nice if faction rally was a two week event instead of a one week event to allow players to space out the grind a little more.
TL;DR - Very pleasantly surprised by the new faction rally system.
Also if you hate renown because of Attrition, there are tons of ways to get around it: Crimson on any class, Devour Warlock, Bottom Tree Striker Titan, and WormHusk Crown Hunter. If you're a Warlock, Devour is easiest; otherwise I would just use Crimson on the other classes.

i agree with you about the bonus thoughts on the story, when they made the warmind dlc. they made no room for any other story telling about the warmind. and the warmind is my Favorite part of this entire game, and they just put the stake in its grave in four missions.
Completely agree with your bonus thoughts here sir - hopefully this is also a bit of an acknowledgement from Bungie (though you will definitely have better / deeper insight on this than the average player like myself) that calling the smaller drops (ie the stuff that is not a main title or Year 2 release like The Taken King and Forsaken) expansions is not productive in terms of setting player expectations. If those are called Content Drops / DLC something like that, then I'm OK with them expanding the loot pool, giving me some more endgame activities, and enriching the experience for a other few months until the next one.
On the bonus thoughts; I’m glad they’re admitting if they can’t hit TTK levels of story, they’re just going to back burner it in an effort to focus more on gameplay and world building. Having story and cutscenes is pointless if it’s....bad. It’s costly to make story content that is consumed once and left behind.
I really would like to see factions expanded upon in the future. I really don't like how players pick a faction because "Their colors are cool" or "Their guns are better". I want players to represent their faction because they actually believe in their cause. I want players to support new monarchy because they care about the city, I want people to pledge to FWC because they believe we need to always be prepared for whatever comes our way, I want people to pledge to Dead orbit so that way we know what pussies not to associate with. Common bungie, wouldn't that be dope?
I really wish they added a mechanic similar to Warframe where once you gain enough status for your faction, other factions start to notice and may send out assassin parties to take you out. I don't know how this would work out in terms of lore since the peace between the factions is a little shaky but it would be interesting from a game-play standpoint.
If you have a friend or two, your friend(s) can clear a lost sector and stand at the lootbox at the end while you wear your full Faction Armor and clear a Heroic Public Event. Finish the event and sprint to the lost sector, collect the 8 tokens, rinse and repeat. This works best if your friend(s) have already cleared their 50 Ranks or you take turns on who clears.
I still love the fact that you, to my knowledge, are the only (mainly) Destiny-Tuber without a damn annoying cheap 3D-somehow made up intro with an even more annyoing theme + cheap click baits in the video titles. i just want to add that the masterwork rewards is very likely going to be there after forsaken comes out so it can be a long term goal to grind to rank 50 for people with less time to play so they will eventually get the masterwork they want
I like the renown idea. It makes it a little funner to play. I hated the lost sector farming in season 1 and 2. This renown system makes stuff more fun. It a good step in the right direction

I like the idea of not focusing so much on cut scenes. I'm sure it's expensive to develop that kind of content for something that probably gets played once and then forgotten...even in D1 where we had heroic story missions, I don't think they were the most played content. Focusing more on what we come back to everyday/week is probably a better investment for Bungie. Also, in my opinion I think better stories were told in the Grimoire, which it looks like we are getting some version of in Forsaken.
Most people skip cutscenes to get back to fighting, if they put overarching story in I don't think anyone would notice. But they did have one Ikora voiceline in the Pyramidion strike about Osiris, the Arebico adventure hinting at warminds on Mars (wtf happened to that btw? Like I was interested as to what the cache's were and they're just loot holders) and the cutscene at the very end of campaign with the space triangles. There's not enough story hype because THEY DON'T TELL ENOUGH STORY.
The suggestion for renown to be added to heroics, raids and PvP is a good one. I liked the grind with the Lost Sectors but I can understand why many would not. Having different options but keeping it grindy can and should be done.
I think renown should be an infamous mark against players who have it, the more stacks you have the higher the chance that the enemies start throwing tougher dudes at you, and the more players together that have full stacks of renown the bigger the fights get, instead of just nerfing our movement and health regeneration.
And by surviving and killing these targets you get stacks of coins, it could replace the enemy supply public event and just be a smaller form of horde mode and EP

The thing about the Catalysts is that some people have gotten the ornaments outside of the faction rally.
renown would be more interesting in strikes I think, because there is a much longer period and difficulty of NEVER dying...it would definitely be challenging
I think that renown should count from the moment you land on your first planet and do your first thing until the moment where you log out of the game. And it should be less punishing - Instead of "things" based it should be "enemies" based - the more enemies you kill, the bigger multiplier for your renown you get [and you can add a time limit where if you don't kill, the multiplier gets worse].
That way with the multiplayer being stale and dependable on ANYTHING - all the possible things could count in token farming - from patrols through strikes.
I feel you about the FWC pride, I have been day 1 New Monarchy and never ranked up anything else. I want the sunshot catalyst, it`s my favorite exotic but I ain`t changing sides.

I think a good Improvement to the renown system would be having all weapons increase renown again so all armor +1 all weapons +1 for a total of 2 speeds up the grind with doing a public event for 5 renown and tokens and then lost sector for 10 and don't make me pick other factions because they have ornaments it kills my faction pride( I literally changed my gamertag to executor I can't be running dead orbit )
The biggest thing is the ornament grind, I didn't notice they were different between characters till rank 20. They just need to have more tokens drop in the different events. I am all for lost sectors being the main place to get drops but only getting 35 tokens from a trails flawless or 30 tokens from a prestige is sad.

The Renown system should be the 1-week-per-month deal, all other tokens should be earnable all the time so we can work toward rank 50. Basically I'm locked out of getting all 3 exotic catalysts because I scheduled a vacation a year ago that ended up being during faction rally.

I think a Renown score card either for Raids or Strikes similar to the nightfall score card would be cool if they make Faction Rally only modifiers that increase Faction tokens. Also make the Renown thing around our head into an Aura attached to an emblem please.
You can go to Titan, complete a public event, finish the ogre lost sector, and be back before the next one starts. It's fast and efficient.
I dont mind Renown being in the Heroic strikes, but it best be worth it since the Heroic strikes are already semi-hard(annoying w/Blackout and Grounded). A heroic strike with 4-5 Renown would probably take twice as long compared to a normal Heroic strike cause enemies will be way harder to kill and we will die way easier, so people are probably gonna camp out w/Scout Rifles and play it super safe. If a Heroic strike with 5 Renown isnt paying at least 25 tokens, then I would just rather stick to doing PE and LS(15 tokens in 5-7 minutes)
Considering how 'real' the grind is *and* the fact that you get a bonus for wearing the full set not being able to buy specific parts is kinda a big oversight.

I enjoy the fact that you are rewarded by wearing full faction gear. I hope the implementation of wearing certain gear is looked into more. Give us reasons to use what we got.
If you do the daily milestones for 3× lost sectors with 5× you will get 25 faction token instead of 15 for a total of 75 which is about double what you suggested to people. You would need 143 a day to finish each one.
Don't know if you remember, but Destiny 2 made you do Lost Sectors as a Milestone every day of the Faction Rally in the past. Whatever planet was that week's Flashpoint was also used for Faction Rally. Back then; however, you had to destroy the cache boxes to get your tokens. The caches are still there, but now don't matter to the every at all. Even now; daily Faction Rally Milestones are to loot a Lost Sector cache on whatever planet is chosen with 3x renown. So players are doing Lost Sectors because Bungie is telling them too, and yes it's the fastest way, but you kind of left that part out!
Maybe could use a little more variety but I like the grind and like that each faction has its own catalyst it makes the pledge more meaningful
My main gripe about FR was that "Your choice matters now!" bullshit while locking EXOTIC rewards behind each faction. That's not what "Your choice matters now," means, Bungo. Ugh. Hopefully they change it next rally with what Datto suggested and you can get all the exotic stuff from just one faction. Or at the VERY least, rotate them around.
You should not mix your personal desires with what's best for the game. "Not everyone should be able to get everything." True in some aspects, but not everything should have this rule applied, same goes to the difficulty that you so much crave for my friend, equip under leveled gear and go do the strikes so you can feel the negative modifiers you think aren't impressive lol, just a reminder to separate what YOU want with what you think is best for the game, and everyone else.

Agree with the idea on Renown progression during strikes. Sounds like an easy but fun enough concept for Bungie to build on!
just a thought here. they could add some sort of renown system into PvP as well. like for example, implement it through the winstreak system. the more win streaks a player has, the more tokens they are able to get. if they lose, they lose stacks of the winstreak and thus, the number of tokens gained decrease.

I like renown as well and the mechanic of bonus renown for wearing full set is a great idea IF I WAS ABLE TO GET THAT FREAKING HELMET SOMETIME IN THE FIRST 50 PACKAGES!!!
Literally got everything except the helmet. On my 50th package, I finally got the helmet.
The whole bit about not being able to be able to buy faction armor being a "glitch" doesn't really matter if it doesn't get fucking fixed during the rally.
You need the full faction armor set to get renown faster AND you need the full armor set for some of the ornament challenges. If you get unlucky (like I have so far) you're just straight screwed out of those entirely. Then next faction rally you can't even go back and continue where you left off without giving up an exotic catalyst and exotic ornament from another faction since we're only getting 3 faction rallies.
Also I'm not so sure about the whole "you can grind the ornaments during the victory week" bit when some of the ornament requirements specifically require renown. Why would we still have renown during the victory week if we no longer have tokens to earn and turn in?
In a game like this I definitely want to see more action driven story and less cut scenes. I very rarely enjoy cut scenes tbh. I want the story telling to be vague and interesting and of specific parts of the lore.
I hear you on the story thoughts and future expansions, with everything thats happened in the Destiny universe very little has had a visual impact on the world around my character. I’m not especially invested in anyone and there doesn’t seem to be a continuity of my characters previous actions reflected in the world around them (like I feel like Osiris or the Brays aren’t come up again at all, they just seem like set pieces). Forsaken looks promising in depth of gameplay and grinding and the like, but what’s really gonna sell me is depth of narrative. Give the Factions a bit more personality and impact outside the rallies for example, garner a more vested interest when choosing sides and collecting tokens or resources for your faction. Just my thoughts on thoughts and the game’s path forward.
I honestly liked the faction rally but my only real issues were, 1. Rng getting armor, took me 35 ranks to get warlock gloves. And 2. Some armor ornament requirements are stupid, my warlocks chest was open like 34 HVT chests, took longer than all the other warlock ornaments combined.
For me the problem isn't the 50 ranks its the ornaments requiring the full armour. 1000 tokens and I'm still missing a full hunter set and missing the chest for titan and that is with already having the warlock set. having that bug go unfixed was a big part of my frustration with this rally
I’m a hardcore player with 3 high light characters. I did this specifically for faction rallies as I know that some weeks I will have no time and some weeks I will have a lot of time to grind.
I think that only being able to support one faction per account and not per character is a little bit dumb because I want to be able to have every masterwork eventually being the player I am but I am unable to now because I happen to be busy this week.
As someone who is a hardcore player though I would normally have a way around this by being able to grind out each of my characters just one of the faction rallies, whereas most softcore players only have one character.
So it would still hold up to the argument that people who spend 2 hours shouldn’t get as much as the people who spend 20 hours. Besides, I would be putting in the same amount of time anyways, just in a shorter timeframe than most people.

If you want to get the ornaments, you have to spend renown. The only way I know of to spend renown is to do a lost sector. So yeah, you kinda have to grind lost sectors to get everything.
Where did you get the info that not being able to buy faction armor was unintentional?
To get to rank 50 you would need a total of : 1000 tokens
Meaning you would need to farm lost sector 100 times if you always get 5 renown and each would give 10 tokens.
PLEASE ADVISE: Is there a way to make it to LVL 30 without farming Lost Sectors? I played every activity, and got the powerful engrams for everything but the raid, on all three of my characters and still only made it to LVL 24.

Im FWC for life and i wont be able to get graviton's catalyst because i will NEVER sully myself with joining DO or NM. My post mentions that I thought it would be better if the Catalysts went to new, faction exclusive weapons. (though I totally like your idea with being able to choose a catalyst when we hit 50. Hadn't thought of that lol) I likened this to D1 where we had class exclusive weapons, so me, only playing as a warlock, wasn't going to miss out on not having that Titan Exclusive auto rifle. If I read the TWAB correctly, you're faction rank carries to the other factions meet rally. So if I pledge to New monarchy now and hit rank 30, I can pick dead orbit next time and be at rank 30.
I enjoy the lost sectors more than I enjoy strikes. Strikes are long and annoying. They’re great for nightfall’s but not for grinding over and over.
I really like your idea of giving all the catalysts to each faction. I also like the idea of faction rewards being around forever. Faction rally’s should be the only time where people can switch faction and get renown.
I don't understand why they kept the explosive packs in the lost sectors since they don't give you tokens anymore and in fact can get you killed which happened to me on a few occasions
The new faction rallies reworks makes me happy for the future. Bungie has clearly gotten the message that hardcore community is bigger than the casual community who complained about not having time to get anything all through D1 causing D2 to be how it was. With the collections, triumphs, leveling masterworks, and all that, I can't wait to be a completion hunter (as a Titan cause master race btw) again.
Renown should be stacked in larger quantities and reward you exponentionally with more tokens the more you have renown on you. the higher the risk the higher the reward. Crucible and Strikes could also have a renown system going on that could be based on performance.
I like the idea of faction gear giving you a bonus regarding the rally and I would like to see that getting more depth as well. Like using faction weapons giving you a random token drop every now and then when you get kills. See it as advertising each faction during a rally. " Hey we have the best gear, join us!" Just some minor tweaking here and there on how much you get. I do like that sense of exclusivity the game has in making it a bit of a challenge to get everything if you want. If only the gear was as good though.
Well....I got all my ornaments for NM. And I hit rank 50 missing a few days of playing. The pulse rilfe from NM is fun to use also

What if during strikes you start with max renown and as you die, your stacks go down. Instead of having to work up to renown over X strikes, you have to keep your renown from the beginning every strike.
