Datto's Closing Thoughts on Season of the Drifter - Is The Annual Pass Working?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лип 2024
- Season of the Drifter will be closing in a few days, so it's time to assess the past few months. My feedback will not surprise you. In fact, it'll surprise you so little that I'm gonna just recap the entire video here in the description.
SotD was too focused on Gambit. If you're looking for the short version of this video, that's it. Gambit does not have the mass appeal that other activities in the game do. Forges have mass appeal because they're really easy and provide you a direct line to new random roll weapons. Gambit still has some issues, which would be fine if there were other things in the season to go do. But because the core of the experience is 50% Gambit, if you don't like Gambit, there's no reason to engage with this season. If this is the way content drops are going to continue, they need to either have mass appeal or they should just be sold individually. I'd love to have a season solely based around raiding, but even I know that's not really feasible, nor is it a good idea if you want to sell your game.
I do think the annual pass or at least seasonal content can work if Bungie is able to keep up the pace that they've been able to push out content, but I'm worried about after Opulence due to the lack of Activision and outside studio support. There have been quite a few things neglected as a result of the annual pass model of content delivery, namely: the core of the game. Destiny is building wide, not tall, lots of experiences and activities with very little depth. Strikes, Nightfalls, PvP, those core activities have lost their relevance in the Destiny world and I'd love to see them make a resurgence.

So all in all, Datto wanted length and not girth
One of these days, people will realize it's not about length OR girth, but how it's used :P
The real secret is knowing how to find...
the transponder to begin the outbreak perfected quest.

95% of invasions are hammerhead...
...Unless its a Thunderlord
US I honestly use a Sniper rifle most of the time when I invade. I obviously have a hammerhead in my back pocket, but still... I am not one of those scrubs running around with a Jotuun etc.
Meanwhile if I invade I get rushed by Wardcliff.
US honestly i see more thousand voices now more than everything, and thats even more bullshit since as soon as it touches you your dead,
I use last perdition, often i can even outshoot hammerhead with it.
From what I've seen lately, most successful invaders don't use hammerhead anymore. There are too many better options; a sniper, polaris lance, jotuun, wardcliff coil, etc.
I know one thing for sure, Recluse helped this season go by a bit smoother for me
i never cried reading a comment before...
Just wait till they nerf it...
Datto: "Much Like Luna's Howl and Not Forgotten, this will not turn you into a PVP God"
Me: The .4 Second TTK begs to differ.
Kidding, though it's very powerful, almost as powerful as 5 super mods :P
Zero hour. Thorn. And the pinicle weapons basically kept this season going
@@punchingnun3 Its very powerful if you're very aggressive and have good game sense. Otherwise you're either out of range or too low health to take full advantage of its perk. It's also a lot stronger on PC than console.
I love how well "wide other than tall" explained the content in destiny and how it made sense to me instantly
That's been destiny 2's problem since the start.
"Miles wide, inches deep"
I love destiny, but it's breaking my gamer heart.
BAE-derlands 3 is coming soon, thankfully!
@@mastermediocre4483 and ps4 is getting the borderlands collection for free :v
Master Mediocre perhaps but you can't say it isn't exponentially deeper in Y2 than it was in Y1
@@ajbolt7D1 just had that magic to it. Idk how to explain it. Personally, I thought the content was way better. Plus. D2 Should have launched with at least 75% of what it has now, in terms of mechanics and the random rolls and all that stuff they had in year 3 of Destiny 1. I still can't get over how they didnt incorporate things we had at the end, there. The stuff we all asked for. I get why we start over in the game, buy why did bungie start over WITH the game after they perfected the first one?
That bugs me the most.
Money makes people do weird and not-so-smart shit.
"building tall instead of wide"
_you are likely to get hammerheaded from multiple angles_
this made me laugh harder than I should've ahaha
Auzz ya cause you and me were hammer heading guys bahahahaha
The machine gun crutch is killing my need to do gambit.
Lore: A++ amazing job
Gameplay: (for me) C- I just don’t like gambit prime and quit with nothing to do
I don’t really care for gambit either, but I’m extremely close to getting the reckoner title so unfortunately I have to keep at it. Once I get it though, I don’t think I’ll touch gambit or gambit prime ever again outside milestones to level up.
I definitely understand if you don't like Gambit, you were not going to like this season, but I think that was kinda expected in a way. Idk, I love Gambit, and so I absolutely loved this season.
Same, I still love the game but did go on hiatus after a couple of weeks of Gambit Prime.
A Datto vid to help pass the time during this 7 hour maintenance, nice
I used this season to do a lot of crucible stuff, first season I've ever played comp. I got recluse then did the Luna's quest and finished getting redrixs.
I did as well. I wasn't really ever into Gambit. I used this season to finish pinnacle weapons.
I legit did the same thing
I got Redrix but now I'm grinding through Heroic stages before the season ends on Tuesday. I left it far too late in the season before venturing into comp.
Same it was my first season doing comp to try to get thorn than that transfered to me getting recluse, then doing the lunas quest, then doing the mountaintop quest.
Ryan Doherty I should have done the same I just abandoned the game to play something else until this week
I thought this season was successful for what it set out to do; evolve gambit and provide a new activity that provides a grind. Reckoner was one of the grindiest seals to get but I thoroughly enjoyed doing so. The main setback is that it was mainly focused around Gambit which isn't everyone's cup of tea, but alas I enjoyed what it had to offer.
Datto: Hello everyone.
Me: Hello Datto.
Dr. Datto
I’m glad I’m not the only one that does this.
shout out to all the people who snipe or try to when invading.
I really try so hard but get fed up and just switch to my blast furnace, sometimes I use mountaintop as well. Try and mix it up a bit.
I think Blast Furnace is better for invasions than even Hammerhead
When I invade I ALWAYS use tatara gaze it’s my favorite sniper and I usually get a lot of kills
Silent Galaxy Good
Ima end this man's whols bloodline ty ty homie
As always, a very fair evaluation. Thanks. Wide vs tall was a very good way to put it
Gambit Prime was a big improvement to normal Gambit, but it still needs work.
Reckoning was miserable to grind so I stopped.
Pinnacle weapons were actually good and worth chasing.
Revelry didn't do much.
Zero Hour was amazing.
Overall, it was okay.
Despite the improvements, I don't see Gambit prime attracting those who don't like Gambit to begin with.
Reckoning wasn't that hard, but I got tired of it even quicker than doing forges. Got a decent spare rations roll and peaced out.
Pinnacle + Gambit Prime weapons were excellent, kept up with with the quality from Black Armory
The allegiance quest was a waste of time, Invitations of the nine was pretty good even though I didn't understand the dialogues/cutscenes.
Revelry was pretty fun in PVE, Not in PVP. The infinite forest was okay for me. Arbalest is bae.
Zero Hour was amazing. Bungie don't nerf outbreak pls.
Overall, pretty much what I expected before the season. Did it exceed expectations? Hell no.
“Revelry didn’t do much”
*He says as plenty of guardians are seeing therapists to help with their skip grenade trauma*
@@oreosnmilk7805 Oh yeah... Revelry was actually a huge PVP blunder, though it did enable some fun challenges in PVE.
Recluse was worth chasing.
Oxygen was just a big meh and 21% Delirium was there to justify the boss damage nerf for LMG's
I like that they are introducing armor set perks again. More of this please. We need raid armor with perks again.
I really fell off this season, I went back for Outbreak Prime and am enjoying the DLC somewhat now.
Black Armory was much better imo
Same situation for me, but I havent touched gambit, gambit prime, or reckoning since I came back
Lots of people did, I came back for Thorn, Outbreak Perfected, and raiding.
Black Armory was definitely better
I used this season to do black armory stuff. I don't like gambit.
Same for me as well
The only good thing about this season:
Recluse
21%
and invitations of the nine
no just Recluse. wtf
G Dizzle wahhhhh wahhhhhhhhu
if you like 21% its just because you cant get Hammerhead. and the invitations of the nine were boring af
@@Baker-mf Uh, anyone can get a Hammerhead though.
@@Baker-mf how can someone "not be able to get hammerhead"? you just need to do forges. 21% is a lot more of grind
my problem was that after getting dredgen rank, i didn't want to even look at gambit- so of course immediately came out season of the drifter.
I quite enjoy Gambit so I was entertained enough for this season.
Leonard Church I love gambit prime too and was very happy with it
I agree with Datto, if nothing else, Bungie should at least add a strike or two each season
Agreed. I think atleast one new strike every single update (like season) wouldn’t be that hard or bad. And maybe some crucible maps? My god pvp players don’t get any love
As a Strike player, I completely agree.
I was looking through my triumphs while waiting for a friend and found that I had done everything you could possibly do. And as much as I want Wedigo and enjoy Service Revolver, I could use some new stuff.
Nathan Cassidy that’s another thing. The same weapons in the vangaurd, crucible, and gambit pool for the whole year? I have everything I want lmao. I want new weapons and gear and strikes. This season has been very very good so far tho. Revoker was p easy. The raid was cool. Menagerie is rlly rlly cool. I think they’re doing good so far
@@jordan8726 I could care less about new loot so much as just new stuff to do. While it would be nice, even the promise of new loot seems dull when doing the same thing over and over and over again.
Even the Menagerie gets old after a while with it's only saving grace being you controlling the loot you get.
probably the best thing/change/feat during the entire season of the gambit is Ada-1 selling all wepons.
Thanks for this review. I tried SotD for about a week when it came out, and since they were drip-feeding everything story-related as well, it just wasn't fun. Haven't played since, but this new season will have me looking. Not playing again yet, but at least looking.
I love Gambit, so I loved this season.
This season was just something I skipped entirely, other than the exotic quests.
Octodog that basically sums my experience up, although I did try out gambit prime and reckoning first week.
Season of 0pulenxe looks so good I might consider coming back
Good Job Datto! I agree with your assessments. Keep up the good work!
For me, strictly IMO, each content drop gave me an additional 50 plus hours of fun. That’s all I’m looking for. New games come out, I enjoy those here and there, and come back. So it made me happy enough
Perfectly objective view, thanks again Datto
My opinions on SotD are simple, lore-wise it's one of the best content drops we've ever had outside of big September launches, and even then it's a good contender, but gameplay wise? it was fun for about 2 weeks, but was a slog through old content for most of its lifetime and thus was quite boring outside of main quests.
8:04 best use of that quote from The Interview I’ve ever heard
I still watch Dattos videos but cant remember the last time I played destiny.
That was interesting, thank you.
I wish you'd come off the fence a little harder though - appreciate you've been burned before for sharing your *actual* thoughts, but they are interesting to us...
It was ok. I enjoyed season of the forge more. The annual pass is nice as long as we get another forsaken sized expansion to kick off year 3
We won’t though
Bungie already said the next expansion won't be like forsaken in size. It won't have as much content unfortunately.
@@alekappleton7912 yeah I know. Still had to put it out their though in case the devs see it
Forsaken sized is a bad idea, that will take slot of their focus, They need to focus on d3, I wouldn’t mind another annual pass
@@smokesky6863 I honestly don't want a D3 right now. Really not looking forward to losing all my gear again. I think bungie should just stick with D2 or if there is a D3 make that the final one
Couldn’t agree more. Gambit is my least favorite activity and I barely played this season. I’m hoping opulence is better
opulence should be way better, the menagerie looks promising tbh, looks like a way better prison of elders. more refined version with better mechanics
Rock Lee I hope so. I loved prison of elders in D1.
@@j.kol3491 from what I see thats what I can imagine
My thoughts on the season of the drifter....It came out? Oh. Ok.
These small changes would make the annual pass perfect for most people
1.) atleast 1-2 strikes per season
2.) Atleast 2-3 pvp maps per season
3.) more exotics added to the base loot pool instead of quest
Totally into that idea! I'd love some new strikes for sure !
was about to comment something similar
I would like to see stuff like the forges stay relevant other than doing it getting everything and be done. Maybe link a few weapons to the forges in upcoming expansions
Definitely got my fill of prime/reckoning getting the title.
But will probably do them to powerlevel like normal
I didn't even get to play this season much, I love Gambit, hated the forges, but your points are valid man. I can't hate.
I think I've played like 4 or 5 hours since the start of this season. I'm looking forward to playing again in the new season.
Hoping Opulance Menagerie gives me something to grind for other than exotic quest i procrastnated on
I haven’t played forsaken since it launched, I’m currently 503 light... what tips do y’all have to try and get more light or at least play opulence content?
it was just announced that Bungo is going to be talking about future content in a stream on June 6
oh shit
Hey Datto huge fan but first time commenting.
I wanted to ask you since you are so versed in Destiny and the franchise as a whole and I really appreciate your opinions, do you feel like Destiny 2 year 2 caters more towards the “hardcore” with its content in a sense of exclusivity rather than inclusivity?
My wife and I both play Destiny, but as a disabled gamer I am struggling in areas even though Destiny has been my favorite franchise, its had some rocky impasses with me.
Your thoughts, or if you already have a video of this somewhere I’d really really love your personal insight.
Black Armory was fun. Season Of The Drifter didn't do much for me, I dropped off the game since then. My new focus is MK11, so much fun. Hopefully next season is good
Same here, mk11 is awsome
Got both my dredgen and reckoner titles this season and had a blast! Thats all...oh um buff fusions I miss my saladins vigil
Just use erentil. It's literally Saladin's vigil.
For this datto, I just saw the seasons as the forge being the season to equip us with weapon, the drifter season to train us and prepare with said weapons, and then finally season of opulence where we truly start using the weapons. I personally had fun during the drifter season even though I didn’t like gambit to much, but then again I am the type that just has fun no matter what I’m doing in destiny. If I had to say one thing, it’s that I wish service revolver originally came at 700 light when you are at 700 light like the rest of my weapons did IE 21% delirium.
This season definitely kept my interest by chasing the pinnacle weapons. They were all really good this season, but the ones for the next season don't look too great at face value IMO but hopefully the new forge activity thing keeps me interested.
love your content
Yeah, we need more destination for sure.

Datto is simply awesome, as usual ❤️
I'm struggling getting back into the game right now, I'll give it another go over the next week or so to level up before Season Of Opulence comes out.
I grinded Reckoner solo for the first month of the season. Prime didn’t feel that much of a drag when you’re grinding a big milestone. Haven’t really gone back to it much since early April as a result. I used the time to grind recluse and mountaintop so wasn’t too bothered about prime being one of the two new things this season. Outbreak came out at the perfect time (pun not intended) to provide something to do for what was going to be a dead month otherwise. Higher hopes for next season though.
I guess it all boiled down to if you like gambit or not. Personally it’s my favorite game mode so this season was a hit for me. Looking forward for Opulence!
I never really played any of the jokers wild content until the most recent patch to the reckoning drop rates and I'm really enjoying it now that there's other things to do if the reckoning gets stale
I really enjoyed gambit and got 3 infamy resets this season. But yeah, reckoning needed to let you choose guns you wanted and mayby tone down the super and stomp spam. All in all i still liked it, but im looking forward to Opulence.
I've been playing D2 since launch, even through the content dry spell of Y1 I stuck around. This season was the first time I properly put the game down. I haven't logged in all season because I, like my whole clan and many others, just don't care for Gambit, but we all plan to return with Opulence. I'm still at 650 power from Season of the Forge and tbh, I'm glad I'll be getting Thorn and Outbreak now to help with that power level climb.

So i have a question and i would really appreciate if someone could help me out, I kinda fell out of D2 right before the first DLC dropped due to just overall dissatisfaction with the game, however ive been seeing videos of these great raids and cool weapons and its really piquing my interest! Is it worth to start fresh with D2 (and buy forsaken) at this point in its life? Is there a good future for this game? Am I too late to start now?
Any answers are much appreciated thank you!
As a mostly solo player, the annual pass as made me pretty frustrated at times- (Namely week 1 Forges, the struggle of solo que in Gambit/Reckoning) but it was an overall enjoyable experience, and I spent more time playing the game throughout the past 2 seasons than I did between content droughts in D1 or pre-Forsaken D2. Overall, I’d say I’m happy with it thus far. I’m excited to see future content. (Quickfang returning, this chalice “crafting” system with runes, and lore, to name a few things.) my main concern is the lack of funding and studio support from High Moon, etc. I feel as though the game will get downscaled dramatically and we’ll see another content drought after SoO. But only time will tell.
Does anyone know what shader datto is using on (what I assume to be) the 2nd newest raid?
Hey datto I know most people prob don’t care but can you make a vault tour and like inventory tour at some point? After like season of opulence starts or before. Thx
Felixsourkroute fuck off
As someone who likes gambit but rarely ever plays it, I still enjoyed a bit of it. Although there wasn't much, considering there were still pinnacle weapons and getting to 700, it wasn't ALL bad. Could there have been more? Of course. But this season was a Gambit focus, so you shouldn't have expected much. Overall, still happy with all the content despite not meeting what I wanted.
I know this comment is way too late but I wanted to say that Ada 1 storyline was completely wrapped up in a perfect bow tie. We learned that Ada 1 was the defender of the black armory and she was rebooted once hence the name Ada 1. That’s pretty much the reason why she doesn’t remember using Izanagis burden to defend the armory. That’s actually interesting.
WHAT IS THE SONG IN THE BACKGROUND AT THE BEGINNING I LOVE IT UGH
wait.....fusions got nerfed? hmmmm....sounds familiar
are fast rof autos damage gettin buffed by 0.04%??
Came back after months I haven’t played gambit prime and reckoning. Am I missing anything
DATTO I LOVE YOUR CONTENT
I had been burnt out by gambit the season before because I had not gotten the annual pass yet. I spent all season grinding forges, and pinnacle weapons. Ill catch up sometime around D3...
I feel like Reckoning could have been a great opportunity to reintroduce the Y1 Trials armor back into the loot pool due to the connection to the Nine
5:27 Im stuck here, still trying to get a swashbuckler spare rations :(
Anyway, totally agree with you, im leaving season of drifter as 'could have been clearly better' and hope the season of opulence is actually fun AND rewarding
(And new strikes pls ! :P )
As a gambit fiend I enjoyed this season but I have to agree with your points. This season only really worked if you enjoy gambit and as someone who solo carries for the most part, prime makes that’s hard as hell as I often get matched against organized teams while I’m stuck with potoatoes. For invading I’ll usually only snipe unless they’re a smart team in which case I’d play more aggressively and use the hammerhead. I liked the shift away from the Queenbreakers bow however the Hammerheads ttk is kinda whack in gambit. I currently use the Izanagi’s Burden, the Luna or Recluse and the Hammerhead for sweaty bois on my hunter.
Also CAN I PLEASE GET SOME STRIKE SPECIFIC LOOT
what i want to know is, is the annual pass *worth it*
does it give me access to any and all future dlcs?
i dont want to have to buy whatever season 3 dlc is released when i already own the fucking 90 dollar annual pass
or was it just another dlc cash shill and was only a *season two annual pass* and then ill need a *season 3 annual pass*
and yes i know the word annual means yearly
Datton did you notice they did not show any enemies in the trailer for season of opulent
I absolutely agree on Reckoning. It was a randomly match-made activity, that was completely dependent on your fireteam to do everything right at the right time. Then between matches, if one person leaves you're screwed. The payoff for the armor sets were not worth the effort. I have random pieces which I forget to put on more often than not, and they don't change my acumen or opinion of Gambit in the slightest.
Gambit Prime, on the other hand, I loved. I played enough to reset my infamy twice, and never really had issues with the dreaded power ammo. Some invaders used Hammerhead, yes. One shot from Jotunn taught them the error of their ways. As I'm abysmal at PvP, invading was never my thing, but the creativity by both invaders and defenders seemed iterative. There was no obsession with power ammo from my perspective (unlike Crucible where the ass-hat spamming the rocket launcher makes the rules). The fact that a match-made team with no mics could compete just as well as a dedicated fireteam indicated the simple math involved in cooperation. It's the perfect marriage of PvE and PvP, and is probably a large portion of the reason I'm still playing daily.
Can somebody please tell what gun that was @ 9:15??........... it's been bugging me so bad!!
I mostly enjoyed the invitations of the nine. Honestly that was the main reason why I played once or twice a week. The lore that came from it was interesting and seemed to be leading to some cool lore stuff. Let’s hope that opulence tops this whole season pass thing.
is trust (Gun) only obtainable if you have black armory ?
Short answer yes because the content is coming but no because the content isn’t enough story progression
Hopefully the new raid and new season will change this
Could of you not realesed this vidio earlier !! I bought the annual pass whit this question in mind the whole time!
I agree with the heavy ammo problem in both Gambit and Gambit Prime. It spawns a bit too frequently which just melts the Primeval and envoys (as supposed to). But when it spawns so much that all you or the enemy team is using is a machine gun to do anything or whatnot, then it starts to become a problem. I think it’s the same in the Crucible. Like Gambit, it spawns WAY too often which leads to the opposing team picking it up which leads to, you guessed it, Wardcliff Coil (yay what a great gun woo hoo). Personally, I wish that Heavy spawns in Gambit and crucible would go back to being like D1 heavy ammo spawns which was once or twice a game. (Maybe more in Gambit, depending on the match.)
Stopped playing the game after Curse of Osiris, anyone know if it'll be worth it to return again? Should I just buy Forsaken and the rest of the expansions with a season pass or should I wait until the next big expansion that comes along? I really hate the idea of buying the same game on three separate occasions, despite the fact I did the very same thing with Destiny 1.
All I want to see for PvP:
- More rewards in comp high on the ladder for more replayability (armor and weapons with enhanced or maybe even exclusive perks) and to keep people playing after they hit legend.
- make supers more killable and super mods
Yes. Make supers less tanky. If I have my super, I shouldn't have to empty a last word magazine, AND THEN use my slam to kill an arcstaff. Quick example, but you catch my drift.
I think having content come out in a consistent constant trickle is much better as it keeps the game fresh. No major content droughts like in D1.
How about seasons for strikes and crucible similar to the season of the drifter?
they need to do things for everyone each season. no matter if you are someone who has a stacked fireteam playing daily to a solo player who can only manage 5 hours a week. everything needs to be accessible to every type of player. next season i hope theres no more time gates, no more time limit quests and activities or quests that involve having to do activities that you dont like/or are not good at and more things that any person can just pick up jump in a feel like they actually got something out of it.
all im saying is to make all the content available/accessible so everyone feels included, rewarded and most of all respect to our time spent doing these things.
The last month of down time is what prompted me to finally cave in and buy a Switch.
I'm happy with this Season, but I seem to be one of the few that enjoy Gambit and Gambit Prime. I got a lot of new weapons with amazing rolls and the Notorius armor from Warlocks and Titans are probably my favorite sets in the game for them. I'd been struggling to find any Titan sets that I actually like during Year 2.
I'm about 80% done with the Reckoner seal, but I don't expect to play much Gambit or Prime after I get it. I love the modes, but I'm a little burned out on them.
What mod do you recommend for the recluse?
Gameplay-wise, it could’ve been better.
Story/Lore-wise, the game has never been better.
+Shadow Drifter is the most interesting character in this franchise lmao
Watching Dattos warmind gameplay gave me nostalgia
I liked Gambit Prime in the beginning, but it did become as sweaty as advertised. I liked the weekly lore bits with Aunor and Drifter, and the lore about the Emissary. I thought Reckoning was really cool tbh, I loved the aesthetic and the combat. It was just fun to do more stuff tbh.
My thoughts were that this season wasn’t super crazy, but it just adds more stuff to do if you get tired of something. Just adds more stuff to do which is always nice
I got Reckoner, and I loved Season of the Drifter. As far as the power ammo goes regarding invading, I don’t mind it so much unless it’s 1K voices spam.
If they come out with a dlc after the forsaken annual pass then I think the annual pass we have right now is really good
One thing I hope they also do (but probably won’t) is update the previous activities. Like add more forges, more locations for EP, updating that stuff so that’s there more of it would be nice. As of now, I can tell ya that I’m pretty much sick of running the same four forges at this point
Accidentally invaded yesterday in gambit when I backed up into the portal, than team wiped with a blue shotgun. Good first day back after months
I just reset my infamy for my 4th time this season just from solo-queuing gambit prime for the reckoner title, and I agree with your critiques of the state of the game mode. The heavy ammo dominance is making the already strong catch-up mechanics even more severe and it is making the experience much more monotonous and tedious.
It also bothers me that Bungie has acknowledged reckoner title glitches including with the massacre and locksmith medals, but they have failed to act upon them. All I have left for reckoner is 8 more massacre medals and getting the doomsday to drop from the likeness of oryx, so this is especially painful.
Is it worth getting the annual pass now? Or is it too late?
