It's a thing I've noticed, seems like most of us who are into black metal and any other gloomy kind of music genre are always drawn to nature. Probably because it indeed put our crazy mind and thoughts at ease.
Loved the one you did a few years back so I'm sure I'll enjoy this aswell, thanks Jerry! Hoest made some of the best BM ever put on record and will forever be one of my all time favourites!
I've visited quite a few countries and I could not decide one above others. They all have different beauties. I guess in the end it depends what one finds beautiful.
My favorite metal bands: Opeth, Cannibal Corpse, Taake, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and Ghost. Why? The most inventive riffs....never cheesy and always creative and inventive.
As an American of Celtic descent, I love Black Metal and Norsk culture. My dream would be to marry a Norsk goddess, move to Scandinavia and never return home again.
I will be in Stockholm for a week next month. While I won't have the time to visit Bergen and I am hoping for an Oslo day trip so I can visit Neseblod.
Great interview! I wish he would have talked a little more about the 21 songs. Did he ended up recording alle of them or did he figure out the 4 songs to put on the album before recording them all? If he recorded them all, I guess we'll see some new releases soon I hope. Also wish he would talk about his rock project. He made 11 songs, so written or recorded? What's the name of the project and is there a release date. I would love to follow up on that.
Greetings from US ya'll. Love this, man, keep it up. Also, don't let these dumb ass politics of the world get between humanity. I love europe, and metal. No point in talking any of that here, this is our "safe space" to relax haha. Also, is this Bergen near Fantoft, or am I off, the perch they are sitting upon looks familiar from when I visited.
Norway did not invent Black metal, it needs to be said. Those bands are infamous because of the obvious, and without that it would have been just another part of the Black metal story.
I think everybody knows that, even Norwegians. I mean, there's a reason why Panzerfaust (the album, not the band) reeks of old Celtic Frost or why Burzum reeks of Bathory!
Norway did invent Black Metal. Snorre "Blackthorn" Ruch and Euronymous developed what vast majority of Black Metal is today. Bathory, Blasphemy and most of the "First Wave" were playing either Thrash or Death Metal, the reason they were "influential" is that they were Satanic, Musical innovation was scarce and only Bathory was really innovative(in terms of production, not songwriting). Only thing that came close other than Bathory was Master's Hammer, but it still lacked essential elements like full(6-string) chords that Mayhem was known for. And Master's Hammer's demo came out the same year Stigma Diabolicum released Luna de nocturnus, both came out in December. Mayhem already had Freezing Moon at the time as well.
I partially agree, but not fully. IMO old Bathory is better than vast amount of Norwegian black metal, even if my alltime favorites in BM come from Norway and Sweden. But let’s not forget bands like Sarcofago and Celtic Frost OR Greek bm scene that was there before Norwegians playd black metal. A lot of Greek bands started doing bm when Norsk bands were doing death metal. Surely, Norway producd a vast amount of good BM bands in the 90’s, so they get that credit for a reason. That being said, though, bands also emerged from Sweden and Finland to do their own ways of black metal. Norway just got into news more than other countries because of arsons and murders.
"we're invaded by people from all over the world now" I have absolutely no idea about the social context of Norway right now, but without it, sounds like he's not fond of foreigners, which is sad. Visiting Sweden, Norway and Finland is one of my dreams, how much push back or straight up racism against foreigners is there? I'm Hispanic so, yeah, comments like that definitely make me think things twice.
Visiting a country as a tourist is one thing. Bringing toxic behavior as part of culture (including but not limited to religion) is another. Think of things like circumcising kids or domestic violence etc. Sure, they might be OK in one place, but not in one's new home country. So, apply "When in Rome..." here. As a tourist you should have no problem with whatever background you have as long as you cope with the local culture & laws :)
I'm Mexican and lived in Norway. I didn't face any kind of racism, personally with my experience, or any kind of rudeness. In fact lots of Norwegians have something called taco night, nothing similar to Mexican tacos but its something! As usual, when you move somewhere you adapt, learn the language and do as the locals do~
@@neoxochitl thanks! And for sure, I’m a hispanic living in Canada, so I definitely know how it is when it comes to adapting and such. Like I mentioned in my comment, without any conext is easy to think of the worst. Thanks again!
I like almost everything taake has made but im just not feeling their new album, i want to like it but i just dont. Maybe i need to give an another couple of listens. Really love your content man you are afantastic interviewer
Interviews in nature seem to put a lot of musicians at ease, love it Jerry 🖤!
Thanks! I think so too.

Hoest interviews are always the best, great job Jerry 🤘🏻
Nordbundet from Noregs Vaapen is the essence of Bergen and the mountains and the snow for me 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome interview with my favourite musician, thank you very much. Long life Taake!

Nice to hear! I hope you like this one, too.
Norway is the most beatiful country on earth. I hope to visit one day from the UK.

Jerry deserves more subs and views he does a very good job.
Thank you. Feel free to invite your metalhead friends and spread the word if you like!

My pleasure. Glad you liked it.
Thanks Jerry, good work! New Taake is a good album too! :P
The guy walking through with the gas jug is priceless!
But the big question is: do you know who he is? ;-)
@@RautaMetal the only person I can think of would be Attila from Mayhem, but I could easily be wrong.
A good guess, but no.
So who is it Jerry?
It's a drummer from the old scene. 😜
True black metal Norwegian, black metal Hail taake🤘
It’s an excellent album.
Great band! Great interview!
The way this interview is shot is pretty awesome.
Thank you! I wish we could do these kind of interviews more often.
Very great interview !! Cheers from France 🍻
Thanks!
I didn't know there was a new Taake album. Can't wait to hear it!
It got released on September 1st.
Hoest is the king of Black Metal, to me him and Sakis Tolis keep the spirit alive. Thanks for the interview!
Glad you liked it!
Hail taake !! Great interview!!! Bergen, once destroyed stave chursh in the backround!!
Cheers! Well spotted.

Love that the final third of the interview is in the dark, outside in nature, sitting high above the lights of the city. Very unique.
Thank you

Nice, Taake. One of my fav Norwegian bands ever. Hoest is a beast of vocalist! Great work as always Jerry!! 🤘🍻
Great interview as always. I wonder why the long time live guitarist isn't playing with Taake anymore. Any chance Hoest metioned something about that?
Thanks. Which one you mean? I can ask.

Guess how many times I have asked already? :D
How i love this setting! Great interview
Thanks! Would be great to do more outdoors interviews like this but most of the time not possible as bands stick to the venues only.
I understand.
I will be in Stockholm for a week next month. While I won't have the time to visit Bergen and I am hoping for an Oslo day trip so I can visit Neseblod.
I’ve been to Oslo a few times and still haven’t been there. I guess I have to fix that the next time.

Thanks! Fantoft is near Bergen, not exactly a walking distance, but still close by.
Also I love how Jerry, kinda? very smoothly changed the subject when Hoest mentioned Norway being invaded by people from all over. haha
Sometimes some steering about is needed. :)
i didn't.
