My favorite movie is the deer hunter, it was incredible to see the small things he put in mean a lot , opening seen with the truck coming under the the bridge going to work in the morning. Ernies gas station shows how much gas was back then 70 cents a gallon. We all worked hard we all rifle hunted every Nov, they use to have venison dinners every year at holy trinity church the beer truck would come they would rent the hall next door everyone new each other. When Vietnam started, i remember my mom telling me when a soldier came to class and knocked on the door they would call out names they would ask 2 or 3 students to walk with them to the main office. No one new what was going on the first time some students did not come back they were being notified of there loved ones death in Vietnam, a war we never should of been in. Lord help those who are most need of thy Mercy, who fought and died on these battlefields alone scared, that your glory is with them ,for you are the truth the way and the life no one comes to the father with out you lord our savior.

Correct. It's not actually a bad film, except Ryan O'Neal seems out of place and is rather flat in it. The Sam Peckinpah film he talks about is Convoy, which was rather disappointing, but not terrible.

Hello from France, on of our best movie critic Jean-Baptiste Thoret made a terrific "documentary" on Cimino and the shooting of Deer Hunter (he returned at Mingo Junction where the movie was shot, a lot of interviews with the people who were on the set, the actors and old Cimino himself + interviews of Oliver Stone, Tarantino, etc...), all shot in cinemascope with beautiful photography, it's on DVD and bluray, it's called "Cimino - Un Mirage Américain"...
Su una rivista di cinema, lessi che la fidanzata di allora, di Robert De Niro, lo lascio perche recitava per questo film Deer Hunter, un film forte, considerato all epoca anche reazionario, conservatore , incredibilmente nonostante Michael Cimino e il cast di attori fossero di idee all opposto come è quasi tutto Hollywood notoriamente quasi tutti left e liberal, venne giudicato un film diciamo reazionario, conservatore, ebbe contestazione politiche, inoltre il film ha scene violente, non horror, comunque molto scene molto forti, leggendo notizie su questo film, le persone che erano andate nella guerra del Vietnam, e testimonianze varie, storiche, come quella scena assurda ed altre del film sono state totalmente inventate dalla immaginazione del regista e dagli scrittori, sceneggiatori del film, testimonianze varie e anche dell esercito, dei soldati all epoca in Vietnam, non hanno mai visto o sentito di scene simili, un film forte che provoco shock e contestazioni molto di più di altri film più violenti o di horror del cinema di Hollywood, Deer Hunter è molto più psicologico, è un genere quello sulla guerra del Vietnam affrontato da molti registi di Hollywood, da Francis Ford coppola, Oliver Stones, anche Tom Cruise attore in un film del genere guerra Vietnam, Deer Hunter di Michael Cimino fu uno di quelli più contestati anche se è fra quelli meno spettacolari, entra più nella psiche, nelle anime, nella psicologia umana di persone segnate dalla guerra, in questo caso del Vietnam. avevo sentito parlare di questo film da persone più grandi d età di me, diciamo un Cinema Cub, a volte in italiano abbreviamo CineClub, interessati alla arte e alle culture anche cinematografiche, di più che guardare e parlare di partite di sport, e avevo visto delle foto e delle grafiche stilizzate, quelle con la bandana , personalmente ho visto il film anni dopo sua uscita, Deer Hunter Michael Cimino in Vhs VideoCassetta, per curiosità perché avevo sentito parlare di questo film che fece molto scalpore all epoca in cui uscì. Come ho già scritto un film di altre generazioni ne parlavano di questo film e di altri Film come per la musica canzoni erano persone di età più vecchie più grandi di me poi capito che in un negozio di videocassette vidi quella di deer hunter il cacciatore in Italiano così lo comprai o presi a noleggio non ricordo per le recensioni che avevo sentito da amici conoscendo e vidi il film le scene che rimane impressa particolare della roulette russa..un po' cupo come film comunque un film d'autore...ricordo nel cinema club quelli più anziani un altra scena che a loro era rimasta impressa quando cantono l inno nazionale nel film a me sinceramente non è che quella scena è rimasta impressa..va bene Inno nazionale nello sport olimpiadi...non so dipende spesso dall' interpretazione degli spettatori poi perché erano ex soldati per me non è una scena importante del film invecchiato ricordo da miei appunti scritti per loro ne discutevano... trovai in un negozio in Italia la cartolina artistica del film che comprai collezione mi sono sempre piaciute poster locandine manifesti di Film... saluti.. comunque di questo video in non so chi ha messo su UA-cam...i don t know

Both are from Long Island. Walken from Astoria In Queens. And cimino from the outer boroughs of Westbury.

Agreed. In the early years of HBO, The Deer Hunter was featured prominently. I would say we watched once a week at least for two years straight.
