    Years ago, I worked at a bakery and a few times brides would come in after a wedding and say their wedding cake had some kind of problem and wanted their money back. More times than not, it turned out they were trying to get their money back for the entire wedding; wedding dress, the hall,the food. Too many scumbags in this world.

      Same thing's happened on Uber platform. Passengers get in our cars, And willl take the rides All the way to their destinations. They give the driver a one star rating and will make up a lie on the driver to get refunds for the rides. I had a passenger calling to Uber and say I was intoxicated behind the wheel. If I was in someone's car and they were intoxicated, I would immediately end the trip. A lot of drivers were innocent and have been wrongfully deactivated because of People wanting services and not wanting to have to pay for them. It's really messed up how this world is. A lot of hard workers out here are being affected by dishonest people

    This screams I went WAY OVER my measly budget, and now I’m going to try and recoup money wherever I can. So sad and tacky. The seamstress made the dresses, provided 2-3 fittings and you only paid her 1/2 of the agreed price. Sidenote: Doing work out of your home DOES NOT make unprofessional. Most self employed/entrepreneurs started out of their home, trunks, etc to get their business up and running.

      Right and now measly a budget must it have been to only pay $1000 for all bridesmaid and flower girl dresses AND apparently the dress for the reception? Like it’s perfectly fine to have a wedding that’s within your means but if you’re expecting the people you hire to go above their own means to make your wedding a fairytale despite being flat broke you’re in for a rude awakening. If you only have $5k for the wedding it’s going to be a $5k wedding and that’s not the lady who made the dresses’s fault.

    • @tw9946
      @tw9946 Рік тому +9

      @@dharmallars I wish we could go back to making it normal to live within your means. There isn’t anything low brow or low class about getting married at a courthouse. Your circle should remain just as happy for you as a couple. This way couples can begin marriages without debt. I would have been too embarrassed to attempt to shakedown the seamstress for a refund when she had already invested more than what I paid for AND I still had a full wedding with the work she created.

    I used to run a bridal boutique and consignment shop in 2009 1. Even used dresses weren't that cheap and 2. My boss was a custom seamstress that made custom dresses, $50 is literally unheard of! Fabric is expensive and the hours of tedious work is a lot! I believe the defendant made dresses from her home and she wasn't a business lady just someone to promise she could make dresses. To me in the video that the plaintiff gave I agree with Judge Judy the dresses didn't look terrible, but they didn't look like wedding material either. I feel like the plaintiff was over excited to hear only $1000 for 10 dresses but she got what she paid for, because that means $100 a dress so she should have known something was going to be wrong with them. Her and her bridesmaids should have went to a professional business instead of someone's home to get wedding dresses!

    Dear seamstress lady, do yourself a favour and increase your prices. Custom dresses would cost between $300-700 in my area depending on how many features the garment has. Time to close the door on the cheapskates. I’ve been to the fabric store. I know how much satin fabric costs per meter. How much invisible zippers cost. How much interfacing costs. No way each dress cost only $50 in materials. Furthermore, no way your time costs only $50 per dress. How much time did you spend sewing, cutting, and multiple fittings? Maybe even the time spent pretreating the fabric. Let’s assume you spent an ambitious 10 hours per dress (no way could I finish anything that quickly). You’re then selling your labour for $5 per hour. Does that seem fair to you? Is all your experience and skills only worth that little? Slippery fabric is a nightmare to work with. My local tailor charges $40 for a 45 minute job on non-specialized garments. You can bet that price would increase if you brought in a wedding dress or something similar.
    You don’t need the headache of dealing with cheapskates. Cheapskates have to learn to live within their means and dressmaking is a luxury service. They can either save up to pay the seamstress a fair wage or they can live without it.
    I didn’t even factor in the costs of running the equipment. The iron and sewing machine use a lot of electricity. Furthermore, sewing machine mechanics charge a lot for sewing machine maintenance. The invoice starts at $80. My domestic machines need yearly maintenance. I’m sure industrial machines running at the speed and capacity a sewing business would put them through would need more frequent tune ups per year. I’m charged a lot if the mechanic has to fix the timing on the machine, in addition to the maintenance.

    As a seamstress, myself, I can guarantee that some of these bridesmaids didn’t have the body shape for the silhouette she chose. Also, commercial patterns are not like standard sizes you find in a store. Everything is by specific measurements and almost always needs adjustments since not everybody’s body shape is the same as the manufacturer’s bodice block.
    Not the seamstresses fault when she’s only doing as she’s told.
