Personally, I would have tried to clean the original finish before sanding it off. On a Model B (which I believe this is: I have a well-preserved ITC version from early 1906), the finish would have been 'dark oak' rather than the lighter 'golden'. And why have you not replaced the decal on the front? There are excellent reproductions available. I shall have to see how you handle the restoration of the mechanism.
I wouldn't refinish the case unless the original finish was ruined. I like the old patina.
Looks like an Edison Standard B circa 1906-1908. Looks nice. I’ve never attempted to do this with any of my machines.
