When you are moving on a constant speed pitching up and reducing the throttle a tiny bit will help for slowing down. Managing the throttle with the right pitch is the key.
Cool video. One thing I witnessed with a hired drone pilot on a shoot a few years back, was he was pretty good at flying a drone, but had no sensibility as a cameraman. A whole afternoon of shooting resulted in mostly unusable footage. The 'trainee' here needs to think like a cameraman NOT a racing drone pilot. His thinking the drone was too slow on the water to beach to trees shot, highlights this. Hopefully more lessons like this and he will start to think more like a DOP/Cameraman. Obviously he is well skilled in flying a drone. This is a bit like telling camera persons to learn a bit of editing, as it makes you a better shooter when you can think of hot shots will piece together and also how some shots won't work. I have debated getting a drone with all the regulations that have come about, but watching this stirs up the itch again. - Cheers
You say a director may not like the idea of using a GoPro, yet there are a lot of commercials, TV shows, and movies all being done with a GoPro. Heck Nurk talked about using a GoPro for the Ford commercial he recently did. Its all about what the final product requirements are, and many of these smaller cameras today can outperform many larger more expensive cameras from a few years ago.
That’s all this hobby is these days. I miss the good ol freestyle stuff from different locations. I guess if your into making content for a channel instead of enjoying the art of flight then eat it up I suppose.
@@creationlabsinc.189 eh i dont agree. you have enough channels on youtube of people who just freestyle and race. its your choice what genre to follow but im sure you can find other good pilots\channels who fly different. Mr Steele isnt close at all to cinematic fpving
I disagree with the "number one rule: do not crash". Yes, the stakes are higher and you got to bring your A-game and be careful to not push yourself beyond your limits of control, but the main goal as an FPV pilot on set is to 1) do your job safely and 2) get the shots. Whether you destroy a drone or a camera is of no consequence to the production as long as you get the shots safely. Things always go wrong and sometimes you lose video or something else beyond your control happens. It's important to stay calm, find a solution, and move on with the show.
@Rotor Riot Awesome video guys! Very few looks into what it takes to fly a Cinelifter. I personally have a Shendrones Thicc, running INAV(w/GPS position hold and lidar laser range finder). It flys awesome, though I'm still looking for the optimal battery setup. What size/brand of cells do you use?
Really great content! I would love to sit and pick Vanny's brain for a couple of hours and bubby is such a good young man. Just love this group of guys (rotor riot crew) except that it makes me disappointed in my friends.😂
So with a GoPro or Insta360 etc, you can use in cam stabilization or Reelsteady to smooth out little jitters and oscillations - How do you go about doing smoothing out footage when using a bigger cam like a Komodo etc? Does it just have to be tuned absolutely perfectly? Or is there another way in post?
Just the frame alone is the same price as a ready to fly quad. I wouldn’t mind to get one of these but best to try to get the pieces together and build it myself. I’m ready for a challenge.
Hey Guys, Well Great Bobby ! On flying a Heavy-lift drone for the first time. I just would love to get to fly one someday. I just don't want to fly it with a big camera on top. I make $4.25 hr on disability, I would never be able to pay for it. LOL.
Can it still carve the turns with less roll and more yaw ? Find that holding horizon more level gives a better cinematic experience. But I've never flown a big rig , plus I'm a rookie to the hobby.
I would think if anything that the big rig would take more roll, as it has more weight to carry around turns. I was offered to test fly the Cine M8 but passed... that thing is TERRIFYING in person hahahaha
depends on your setup... in my thicc i went with the lumenier h7 ultimate fc... he can be powered up from two independent sources (escs). so when one 4in1 escs failes completely you can at least land the bird. but i have never tried so far
I think Betaflight can handle that on an X8 configuration because the failed motor has a redundant coaxial motor. I'm not aware of any flight control firmwares that can handle a failure on a hexacopter or other multirotor that doesn't have coaxial motors.
In theory yes. We did a video a while back with a 5-in 8-motor setup, and if we removed a prop (to simulate motor failure), the drone still flew fine, albeit with less thrust as it's lost 1/8th of it's power.
I've been flying a big ass discovery for a long time with big motors ,big battery and big ass camera. There is nothing like it . Batteries are expensive.I use 10 inch props.,and wo0kong!!!0 my

Not impressed with the chasing off the bird with the quad guys. Doesn’t matter if it’s protected or not, it’s not something you should be doing, accidents happen, especially with animals who behave unpredictably and I know you’d feel bad if you’d actually hurt it.
Did they actually chase the birds off with the quad? I thought they just shooed the birds away on foot. The X8 might have come within 25 meters of the birds at one point, but I didn't see any intentional chasing going on.
I've tried to shred some birds before... It's very difficult. Birds are ridiculously good at avoiding drones. Presumably because they spend their entire lives in the sky flying togethet and avoiding colliding with each other.
