Great tips, no over-the-top BS. I've been flying for several years and decided to get in to FPV and this is exactly the kind of information I'm looking for. Thanks.
It’s been 9months since I got into this hobby. I started with a simulator but I built my own quad also. Which is the best thing i did. Because after crash i know immediately what to fix and how to fix it. I have no knowledge about everything but youtube has answers for all my questions. Great video!
DJI FPV is amazing. I have been flying FPV multirotors for about 5 years now, and converted to DJI this year. I feel like the better image and quality of connection makes me a more confident pilot. It's not cheap but for the results the cost is worth it.
Been flying for a long time, I still buy prebuilts especially when I just need to put FPV fuel in my tank to keep me going. Plus you can buy gear for cheaper than you can build it yourself. Even if you buy a pre bulilt a lot of time you can transfer that gear on a separate project later. I just bought the iflight XL5 HD for 270 dollars in the 6S configuration. That puts the quad at 110 dollars minus the DJI system. It has premium motors and gear and just the motors alone are 80 bucks+. I could never fly this purchase and I still would be heavily satisfied. But of course I already have 10 packs through it....lol Great vid and I wish I had some of these locations, a lot of time the terrain informs the way we fly and develop.
All still relevant points in 2022. Thanks for those tips. I've got about 30 hours on the sim, been flying the beta flight Cetus pro and that basic setup for about a month now getting comfortable and responsive. I really do need to connect with my local FPV community. Great idea.
Practicing Line of sight is really good advice. I started getting pretty good after a month or 2. Line of sight felt like getting kicked all the way back to day 1 all over again. Its really hard, but a few minutes practice per day makes a huge difference
Great video Christoph!! It was fun to fly with you. And yes I totally agree about buying a ready to fly drone for your first drone rather than building it. I think it’s way more approachable for a beginner to repair than build. After enough repairs and experience, beginners will eventually learn enough about how drones are built to have the confidence to do it themselves. Or at least... that’s exactly how I did it too haha 😂😝
@@cbenfey my opinion is they are the ones who might have started fpv when there was no choice but to build.. so had to learn that way or just like tinkering and building.. personally I buy prebuilt first... then learn to fix and tweak after .. also prebuilt first to get experience and make sure this is something you like.. then you can start customizing to your likes.. either way awesome video and happy safe flying..
I started out with a DJI quad with the transtec laser HD frame that I got off someone from ebay for super cheap, and honestly that was probably the best decision I could have made. I ended up completely reverse engineering the thing due to how many crashes and mess ups I've made when soldering on new components like a GPS, vifly buzzer, or Crossfire nano rx I honestly think the only thing left on my quad that came from the guy I bought it from is the frame! I probably would have way given up a long time ago if I had to build it completely from scratch myself, so the slow learning process definitely helped a ton. The transtec frame is a nightmare to work with though since you route the motor cables under a little front and back plate if you want to keep it tidy, means you have to take off all the standoffs to change out a motor lol. I've probably reached a point where it used to take me 2 days to take apart and rebuild this quad, to just under half an hour.
I think that totally depends on each individual! If someone new to the hobby has some experience soldering and/or is mechanically inclined, go for it. I built my first just this year. I ran into a couple issues along the way with getting my radio linked up and some of the software/betaflight stuff. (and an ESC that went out on me after my first flight, two minutes in...part was backordered for a while) Yeah, it would have been nice to get up in the air right away, but I would rather spend the time learning up front rather than have a bad crash and have to figure that stuff out, and put my flying on hold while I do so. I'm confident now that if I have to, I could rebuild my quad and get it back up in the air quickly. Again, it depends on the person. I enjoy tinkering and building so for me it was a no-brainer, and I was confident up front that I would enjoy this for the long run so I didn't mind spending the time initially. All that said, I don't discourage anyone from going with a ready to fly quad...it's all about how you want to do it and whatever makes it most enjoyable! I finally got my replacement ESC a couple weeks ago and have been able to fly for the first time with my goggles a few times now and it is a blast.
I built it myself without any experience in drones and soldering. It took me a lot of patience but I did it. But for people who just want to fly and have fun it's probably better to go with a pre built first.
Dude, great vid! Been flying for over a year, & yes, Joshua Bardwell is a God send. Haven't bought a GoPro yet but plan to. Keep up the good work. God's speed.
Thanks for all the great tips, as someone who is curious about this hobby and considering it, this was perfect combination of info I need to start! Really appreciated.
Tip #7 all the way! If using goggles (flying FPV), get to acro mode ASAP. Fighting against the self-leveling of angle mode to go where and how you want is a real pain in the butt. If learning line of sight (LOS), it's okay to use angle mode and focus on throttle control. After a few minutes or an hour, when you stop slamming the ground (because you will) switch to acro mode and keep the quad tail-in (that's rear of the quad facing you, front facing away from you) for a while. When comfortable with that, start flying squares or figure 8s. The amount of time it takes to get comfy at each stage of learning depends on the person but most should be able to do this in a day or two and doing line of sight flips and rolls in no time. :)

I’m a DOP too and although I’ve flown drones for a while I’ve not gotten into the FPV yet but feel the dynamism it could add to a project could be really useful. Thanks for the video I found this super helpful!
Been flying for a couple of months now and now I'm getting way more comfortable flying and repairing my quads, I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking more about improving the quality of my footage. I REALLY wish I'd had someone suggest leaving the action cam at home for a while longer. I fried my H7B in a bad crash 3 weeks after I started flying, and in retrospect, I'm lucky it lasted that long. I haven't tried much LOS flying outside of the crutch of angle mode, I should give it a shot.
Great video bruv... that Tews dive is on my bucket list... doing that dive was one of the reasons I got into FPV... just need to finish my A-RPAS first....
Brother what an excellent video !! You practically gave us an initiation class in less than 20 minutes with all the points, the only thing that falls short is in the comparison of what you can do with a 5 "compared to a CineWhoop, which I would like to do in personal (with a lot of practice) are flights like the first minute of intro and free fall in waterfalls, but, can you do it with both? or it could never be with a CineWhoop, I would like your valuable opinion because I am looking to choose my drone among iFlight TITAN XL5 HD 6S VS GEPRC CineGO HD 6S, Greetings from Mexico !! thanks in advance, it is for a travel channel
I’m glad I could help! All of the shots in this video were from my 5” and I would say for 90% or more of the stuff I’ve done the 5” is my go-to. Cinewhoop is good if you’re flying around people, but you’re not going to be able to fly fast or in even slightly windy conditions. I’d say start with the Titan and then get a whoop later on down the road. Happy flying!!
I like the shot along the railway line 🔥 For me a tiny whoop would be a great start fpv Serious journey for the shot at the water fall 😃 lost wallet = day ruined 🙈 Rlines is the way forward 💪🏻you forgot to mention Armattan life time frame warranty 🤗 great water dive 👌🏻
Hey Christoph, great video, thanks for the tips. I bought a bind and fly, the iFlight Nazgul5 6S i.e. Pre built and tuned, which I see you suggested. I flew one flight line of sight and the next time with goggles, cause I finally got, and the first time got confused and was like "where am I😮" 😂 was already too used to seeing my qaud line of site😂 despite many hours of Liftoff in FPV. I crash from a nice height but, as you say, they survive, and I flew on. Using acro trainer mode, won't self level but won't flip over either. thanks to Joshua Bardwell for his Betaflight videos where I discovered that mode.
Absolutely amazing video I'm just going down the rabbit hole of learning about fpv and this video answered a lot of my questions especially about cinematic fpv. Instant subscribe to your channel and Joshua's 👍🔥. Keep up the good work.
I start building from the get go. I had soooo much headache bro manytimes i almost quit. But now i am flying and got all my mistakes covered. Was costly though
This video has been excellent. One thing I didn't see you go over was how does FPV cinematography fit into part 107 for you? What's your "workflow" or flight crew considerations for setting up a shoot in regards to maintaining compliance with part 107 on a commercial shoot?
I have been looking and searching for this information now for a few days. been flying 107 since it came out and really want to get into fpv but can't see how it's being integrated. I am thinking of a couple ways someone could approach this in the US but nobody is talking about it. The quest for knowledge continues....
did the subscribe thing and the thumbs up thing lol...really inspirational, ive been wanting to get into fpv drones for a while but im sooooo scared lol. especially the undertaken of learning to build. but this really helps. thanks
@@cbenfey thanks again...spent all night following your links and researching drone now i have a au questions...this is good Do you think DJI will release a version 2 of the goggles and transmitter that does the same (or improves) but in a smaller form factor?
I don’t think they’ll have a new system for at least a year or so, they just released a huge firmware update for the current one so I think this will be their flagship system for a while. That being said, you really never know with DJI! They’re constantly making their own equipment obsolete! I really think you’re safe to buy the current system though, it’s still light years ahead of anything else on the market.
Ive been wanting to fit a drone into my workflow for a doc Im doing and keep feeling like the DJI M2P route is a means to an end...Im a tinkerer so this video was right up my alley. DJI M2P seems like the safe choice with 10 bit but these seem so damn fun. Maybe ill buy both hahaha. Thanks!
So here I am, watching fpv content because I wanna start ordering my first fpv drone, as I'm reading the comments, of course I see a comment from you Joey haha.
Tip 11: Reelsteady GO is super useful for stabilizing footage, though it only works with GoPros. It offers way more customization than Hypersmooth that comes default from the Hero 7 onwards.
Awesome video! I haven't really flown *any* drone before, and I'm going to invest in a drone this year. I'm kind of lost between going for a Mavic or a cinewhoop. However, rumour is that DJI is releasing a new FPV early this year (in a month or two) so I'm really waiting to see how that is. What would you recommend?
My Mavic 2 Pro is probably the drone that I get the most use out of from a work perspective, but freestyle drones are SO MUCH FUN TO FLY! Either way, you will not regret your decision though.
I have a few small issues with your otherwise good tips. You mention getting 6s batteries, CHECK IF YOUR QUAD CAN HANDLE 6S FIRST. Flying acro as soon as possible is good, however now betaflight has acro trainer mode so you can use the computer stuff to great advantage. This is a great training mode, it limits the angle to what you set but does not self level. Means you cannot accidentally end up inverted. Another tip, if you have never flown FPV, throw the gear on a cheap RC truck (or a good one if you already have it) to get used to the goggles without putting your camera gear in danger.
Yeah for sure! I just mean if you're picking components, do a 6S build over a 4S. I haven't used the new acro trainer mode, but I think I'd still say learn in full manual, learning to fly inverted is super useful for cinematic stuff like split s!
6 or 4s either one. If your just flying cinematic or freestyle there really isn't a benefit to choosing one over the other imo. My fastest quads are 4s setups.

Great intro to this topic. Thanks for putting it out.
I got a feeling your channel is about to get mega blown up any minute!
Thanks so much for this video. I am a beginner that hasn't gone off the simulator yet but am about to order my first RDF ceniwhoop and I was wondering how many extra batteries I should get and you more than answered that foe me. New sub and keep up the great work!!
Woohoo, glad I could help! Happy flying dude!
DUDE!!!! Thank you so much for his video, information, and links.
No problem at all!
I loved your flying just fantastic, I have been thinking of FPV for a while and its the thing I would like to try.
It's the most fun you can have with a camera, I highly recommend!
Hi Christoph, your fan from Ukraine. Thank you for tips without waste of time, truly excited to start flying fpv
I’m excited for you, dude! It’s seriously the most fun you can have with a camera!
great video, i started flying fpv at the end of January this year. I started with the Squirt V2, Pre-built from Rotor Riot, i am full digital, i do have the analog modal for my dji but have yet to use it. Keep Sendingit!
I never touched level or horizon mode and i have been doing pretty good if you want to checkout a few of my video, Subbed
@@enarramore77 will do! I saw you're flying the Marmotte too...such a solid frame!
Great video . good tips for begginers to chose they way in the fpv world!
Thank you! Glad people are finding it useful :)
I really love your content, always to the point.
and thanks, Christoph. I have been following your work for a long time and I have to say you taught me great things.
Love from Bangladesh. 💓
Excellent.... Great advice, great points. Thanks for posting!
Thanks, Steve! It’s always a pleasure :)
Cool cinematic intro. Well organized tutorial. Braap approved 👌
Haha I didn't even realize how badly I wanted to be Braap approved and now I need it for all my videos!
Great video and top tip's, I agree very much with them! I also, learnt from JB when I started FPV very helpful dude! Superb cinematic flights and edit buddy, happy flying! 👏👌👍²⁷⁴
I feel like so many people will owe their FPV career to that dude, haha! He's a legend!
Amazing video bro. I'm just learning about fpv drones and the racing and cinematic aspect of it. This video really helped. Thanks! Also great color grade for your video and cinematography.
Thanks! FPV is seriously the most fun you can have with a camera.
Your video was really well done and easy to follow..just contemplating FPV drones. This video was the first one I found on introducing FPV drones..Thank you! Great video!
Glad it was helpful! If you just want to dip your toes into trying it I'd recommend the FPV Whoop Racing Starter Kit from BetaFPV! It comes with everything you need to get started and it's only $129.99! betafpv.com/products/fpv-whoop-racing-starter-kit-2?sca_ref=520545.u2t2buzskv
Awesome Video mate! Getting into FPV rn, and videos like urs really keep me tuned and hyped! Alltough i´ll start with a Tinywhoop and work my way up to a 3"/4" cinewhoop...
Thanks Christoph! As always your content is great. And this has been really helpful.
Glad to hear it, my pleasure!
This is perfect! Thanks for this great video!
You're so welcome!
This was a super great video, awesome advice combined with a beautiful vlog! Plus you’re talented, well-spoken and humble. Appreciate you for making this man, hope we do get to fly together one day!
-Kai
Thank you so much! Yeah I hope we can rip together some day too, I miss being able to see friends and new places!
amazing david guetta! love your music and your drone videos! keep going!
Hahahaha ok!
Great video. I've been flying for three years and there were some great beginner tips in here. Also notice the flying at Tri City Park :) Great spot..
Yeah I was super nervous flying there, I barely had a handle on things at that point in time and there were people to avoid!
Great vid brother, getting stoked to get in it
Great video bruv... that Tews dive is on my bucket list... doing that dive was one of the reasons I got into FPV... just need to finish my A-RPAS first....
Haha yeah! I do have my advanced certificate as well. I recommend parking in Dundas and hiking in for Tews!
Thank you best cinematic fpv video ever
This FPV thing is no jokes! Still getting into it when I can
Yes dude! It's seriously going to change your life!
Im newbie fpv here..thx for ur explanation ~ good video 👍🏻👍🏻
You’re welcome, glad you found it useful!
Great tips - esp. the props'! Thanks for sharing
No problem, glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for this info. Hope you are enjoying flying post pandemic. God bless 😊🙏🏼❤️
I like the shot along the railway line 🔥
For me a tiny whoop would be a great start fpv
Serious journey for the shot at the water fall 😃 lost wallet = day ruined 🙈 Rlines is the way forward 💪🏻you forgot to mention Armattan life time frame warranty 🤗 great water dive 👌🏻
Yeah I should have mentioned that! I love my Marmotte, it’s taken a few good beatings yet and no damage whatsoever!
That looks fun! I'm in.
Great flying mate👌👌👌
Thanks dude! It's all I think about haha!
Fantastic shot of Tews!
Line of flight sighing is a nice sounding combination of words.
Huge *sighs*
Great vid!
I will most definitely get a FPV drone!
Maybe, someday... 🤓😇🥳
Hahaha! I should change the channel name to "Definitely Tomorrow"
@@cbenfey Haha! 😂
You just scared my bank account! 😅
$$$
I start building from the get go. I had soooo much headache bro manytimes i almost quit. But now i am flying and got all my mistakes covered. Was costly though
Yeah my first build was suuuuuper frustrating, and it came down to being a dud FC from iFlight.
I started out in horizon/angle mode, but after a couple of hours in a sim, acro felt completely natural, don't sweat it
Yeah I would switch back and forth at the beginning but it was a bad habit to break out of!
This video is all i need for 2020, cheers mate :)
Damn, thank you dude!
This video has been excellent. One thing I didn't see you go over was how does FPV cinematography fit into part 107 for you? What's your "workflow" or flight crew considerations for setting up a shoot in regards to maintaining compliance with part 107 on a commercial shoot?
I live in Canada so we don’t have to do a Part 107, it’s a different set of rules. But Joshua Bardwell probably has a video that goes into that!
I have been looking and searching for this information now for a few days. been flying 107 since it came out and really want to get into fpv but can't see how it's being integrated. I am thinking of a couple ways someone could approach this in the US but nobody is talking about it. The quest for knowledge continues....
Love your dedication & adventure🔥
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this great video!!
You're welcome! Thank you so much for this great comment!
did the subscribe thing and the thumbs up thing lol...really inspirational, ive been wanting to get into fpv drones for a while but im sooooo scared lol. especially the undertaken of learning to build. but this really helps. thanks
I’m so glad to hear that! Yeah the building barrier of entry shouldn’t be a thing anymore. Lots of great bind n fly options out there!
@@cbenfey thanks again...spent all night following your links and researching drone now i have a au questions...this is good
Do you think DJI will release a version 2 of the goggles and transmitter that does the same (or improves) but in a smaller form factor?
I don’t think they’ll have a new system for at least a year or so, they just released a huge firmware update for the current one so I think this will be their flagship system for a while. That being said, you really never know with DJI! They’re constantly making their own equipment obsolete! I really think you’re safe to buy the current system though, it’s still light years ahead of anything else on the market.
One of this videos that prove that if you have good audio the out of focus clips are bareable
Barely bearable, haha yeah, but I agree!
Thanks!
the M2P basically flies itself, haha! FPV is a lot more hands-on!
Thanks, glad I found your channel. I'm following step by step.
Nice!! It's the most fun you can have with a camera, I'm excited for you!
Nice flight! Well done 👌
Thanks! 👍
From the whole video the scariest parts were when you guys crossed the river on those logs lmao! I was holding my breath every time
Hahaha, yeah my friend fell in recently in that exact spot!
Yes RSG is absolute wizardry! Works with the Hero 6 as well!
usefull tip would be to say you cant use it if in camera stabilization is turned on
Awesome video!
@@cbenfey Awesome! Thanks :)
Great video! thanks.
Joshua Bradwell is a very good teacher for me
"you are going to learn something today" 😉
Thank you!
Top tips, thanks for posting.
Glad it was helpful!
